Post by: UK Redsox on November 30, 2016, 09:32:00 AM
Leeds United v Villa

Sky Bet Championship
Saturday December 3
Kick-off: 5.30pm
Elland Road

I'm taking a Leeds supporting mate of mine up for his first ever game at Elland Road. He's been a fan since the early 70s but has only seen them play once (away at 'The Mighty Reds YNWA' around a decade ago)

Looked really good against Liverpool yesterday. Hopefully they will fade but this will be tough, possibly tougher than Brighton

2-2, Kodjia and Gestede

Leeds did look good this game will be close. May well be a 1-1 draw if  Baker is fit to continue his partnership with Chester.

2-1 Villa for me- Kodjia x2

Leeds have had some tough games recently - had two tough games against Rotherham and Liverpool, so hopefully these may have taken a lot out of them

I don't think I've ever seen Villa win at Elland Road, despite having been half a dozen times. The first time was after our 1975 promotion, nad we lost 1-0 and barely escaped with our life. The last time was the game when Gareth Southgate scored twice in a 2-2 draw (Kewell scored a screamer right after the second-half kick-off).

They were awful vs Newcastle.

This!  Saw some of that match .And against QPR hammered 3-0 on tv . I think centrally they are weak and don't have any one like jedinak or much going on midfield.  Wood is a physical try hard goal scorer typical championship player robust neat with his head . Can create things Leeds and few nice flair type if given room. I would imagine they won't take to grealish and expect him to be fouled by players and booed by fans same if gabby is involved and ayew too. They 'll be over excited fans and create atmosphete playing us and it's a big game to them and they gotta grasp any big matches they can after thete demise from premier league. However thst said our villa fans will again be out in force doing club proud!
Kodja and adomah are real deal and see a 2 or 3 goals to 1 victory and perhaps a pen in it too.
My reason is really in the attacking quality we have and the fragility in Leeds back line. I think Bruce organised well and would say a narrow 1- 0 win but i think the 'occassion' will allow villa to exploit Leeds.
A side note I'm a big fan of Gary monk and was more than surprised that he took on Leeds- due to current owner.
I think he has a good winning mentality a progressive coach if not still a bit naive and stubborn
Anyway up the villa 😀

I will be at my nan's in Tile Cross with a face as long as Curzon Street. My grandad will tell me about his potato clock* and I will resort to reading my Nan's Titbits magazine to alleviate the boredom. I will slowly develop an addiction to Camp coffee and Carnation milk.

The mind may well be playing tricks, but I think I saw us win twice at ER in our Div2 season in 87/88. One League, one FA Cup.

Anyway, we'll win - Thompson & Aspinall with the goals.

3-1  win in the League  up there and  2-1 win in the Third round however they beat us 2-1 at VP  in the League.

Providing we go 3 in midfield I can't see us losing. Hopefully Bacuna if fit can show the same sort of form from earlier in the season. We need somebody to drive forward from midfield. Plenty of options up front, not too worried who plays up there.

Is baker definitely out? Hope not

Think Bacuna or Gardner might come in for ayew here

Wouldn't at all be upset with a draw here and then win our much easier looking home games over the next month or so

also I'm going with a couple of Leeds supporting mates who are showing me the highlights of Leeds on a match day, so a win would be hugely appreciated

Can't wait for this, a massive fixture that feels like a blast from the not so distant past.

Will be sitting in the home end with my brother, a Leeds fan since the late 60s. I know that everybody hates Leeds, but I've personally had loads of good experiences (no, honestly) with their fans. To all those in their end: as long as you don't take the piss and celebrate our inevitable goals/victory I'm sure you'll be absolutely fine. I fully expect to be able to talk  to other Leeds fans in the pub afterwards without any bother at all, as this is always the way it's been for me personally, home and away.

                         Gollini

      Hutton Baker Chester Amavi

                        Jedinak

              Gardner.        Westy

  Adomah    Kodjia         Grealish

Providing Baker is fit I have this  team.

Robert green is goalie for Leeds hes not exactly solid . 1-3 Villa

Couldnt get tickets in the away end so ill be sat with the home crowd unfortunately. Dont think I could be sat with a worse group of fans
All the best, I went special ops in there end once never again. Give nods and grunts, don't speak to anyone and sit by an exit.

et sec

not really looking forward to the date but hey ho - just don't lose Villa

"Champions of Europe, you'll never sing that"
"Have you won the European Cup?"
Etc etc

Changed my mind on the score, I thought we'd draw 1-1 but I fancy us for some reason. 1-3, Kodjia to run riot.

I, for one, am gutted that a team whose entire success was founded on borderline-criminality, intimidation and sheer dirty bastardness, came unstuck in the biggest game in their history.

Baker's unavailability will cost us. We'll definitely concede without him.

4-1 us.

Ftf.

The team is getting better each game. The funny thing is I don't think we've played that well yet under the new management.

How refreshing it is now to look forward to each game with optimism thinking "we've got a chance today"

Kodija, Adomah, Jedinak means we've got a few tidy players for the opposition to worry about although today I think Baker not playing could be a big miss for us and I didn't think I'd be saying that a year ago.

I'd settle for a draw but I think we might nick it 1-2.

Had a dream last night we lost 5-2.

Mind you we were still top of the league afterwards, so draw your own conclusions.

Went to a LCup? match one night with a lad from work whose mate couldn't go so I had his ticket. Sat behind the goal and Ian Taylor scored right in front of us.  Of course they all jumped up making gestures towards him and calling him all the black b*******ds under the sun whilst none of them (except my mate) realised I was jumping up with my arms in the air in celebration. It was definitely a "sit on your hands and keep your mouth shut" job in there.

FTF!
Having said that, I don't have particularly high hopes for this one. 3-1.

If we can get a draw at their place and win the home game at the end of month then that will be good going.  1-1.  Rudy to get ours.

Much as I have trouble saying it, GA could be key, this being an away game. keeping them busy at the back or even a breakaway goal?
It's a long time overdue, a little bit of pay-back.

That might be the case if we were taking about the Gabby of 2008 and not 2016.

Slim win for us 2-1.

Leeds got one player I would much rather we would have signed in the summer.
Pontus Jansson who Leeds got on loan from Torino is a DC that is more Premier than Championship level.
Think there is an option from them to buy him after 19 app...they are foolish if they do not act on that.
This guy is cut from the same rock as Olof Mellberg. Hope Kodjia can break him though!
He missed Liverpool game this week (cold) so lets hope he is not 100% yet.

And please please Mr Bruce can we have Bacuna or Gardner instead of Westwood today?

Looking forward to this one.

Best places in the city centre to watch the match? Only just realised it's on telly and I'm around with an out-of-town Villa mate for the evening.

An indication of how far his fall from grace has been; it took me a good while to work out who you're on about.

Wishful thinking maybe but he's getting fitter and a good hour on the pitch could give them some problems.

Strong Villa line up. Three in midfield. Ayew and Grealish on the bench. Rudi starts. No Baker.

Not too happy about that. I know he likes kodjia from the left but Rudy is so immobile especially when you're away from home and want to play on the break

No grealish or ayew. And no centre back on the bench - maybe Jedinak would fill in if needed?

Not much creativity in the middle, hopefully one of the three CMs can push on.

Bunn injured/ill, I take it?

Sarkic is on the bench. Our first Montenegrin to get a squad number I think.

I imagine a similar game plan to Brighton - will be looking for gestede to get around the pitch and help press. Not much creativity or quality in midfield but maybe that's for the last half hour again when the game may have opened up

Have the feeling this will be tough though I don't really know much about Leeds

Interesting to see Sarkic on the bench - between him and Gollini those are seriously inexperienced goalkeeping options. Good for him to get some experience around the first team.

A Gardner special from 30 yards wouldn't go a miss. Other than that it will be free kicks and corners I'm afraid.
It will be a tough game.

One bright spot is, we're one super sub away from a fairly attack-minded 4-4-2 if necessary. Gary or Ashley off, Ayew or Jack on, with Rudy and Kodjia up top.

Easily done.

Let's hope we're still in the game by then.

You know that feeling where you feel all week like the club are moving in the right direction, everything is coming together, you love/respect almost all the players, trust the manager but come 45 minutes before kick off you're shitting it? That's me right now.

I guess if needs must Hutton would go to the middle and Bacuna would come on <horror face>.

Hopefully needs don't.
