Title: Aston Villa vs Cardiff City Pre-Match Thread
Post by: Bad English on November 21, 2016, 09:49:50 AM
Villa Park. Saturday 26th November. Kick-off 3pm.

Aston Villa form: D W W D W D
Cardiff City form: W D W L L W

We will score two goals but concede one. Therefore, 3 points to the Villa.

If we are going to get in the play offs then we need to be winning these sort of home games. The tide has turned, we look more and more a team with each passing game, a win and a clean sheet 2-0, Kodjia and a Ayew screamer.

Lovely to look forward to villa games again. Really think we should be able to win this despite cardiff's decent form

four key decisions for me:

Formation - keep 3 hard working midfielders or drop one for grealish to play more advanced. I'd like to - but it's a risk against a dirty warnock side and given our personnel. I think this comes down to how Bruce feels they look in training. Are they taking on his messages about hard work - i.e. Will we get the second half against Blackburn or the first?

Ayew or gabby. For me it's ayew all day - kodjia central

Right back - Bacuna for me if he's not needed in midfield

Who partners Jedinak? It's really Westwood or Gardner (alongside grealish or Bacuna)  or both. I'd put Westwood ahead of Gardner at the moment but the risk is a lack of physicality if we just go with a two.

Close one again 2-1 to us.Bacuna at right back Rudy at centre forward would be a bonus.

Ayew in for Gabby with Kodija central..Bacuna for Hutton...Grealish has to play, in place of Gardner or Westwood.

Wot - no poll? Booo

Couple of weeks ago I'd have said easy win but Colin Wanker seems to have got them organised, and Junior Hoilett and the ancient Rickie Lambert can be a handful on their day. They stuck 3 past Huddersfield last time out so they're on a bit of a high. Still fancy Villa to bring them down to earth with a bump - 3-1 to us

Looking forward the game but it won't be any walk in the park.  Warnock looks to have  got them organised.  Dislike Neil Warnock and his teams  intensely.

Feels good to say that.

Think this will be a frustrating home draw....we haven't had one for a month!

Warnock will get them scraping and time wasting from the start, Cardiff will be very happy with a point.

1-1.

It doesn't matter who starts the thread silly.

We need an early goal as I am sure they will set up to pack the final third of the pitch out

Other than very good efforts like last Friday it is hard to see us conceding at present

2-0

Replace Hutton with Bacuna

Westwood  Jedinak   Gardner

Adomah  Kodja     Grealish

The sort of game we should be winning if we are going to be contenders in the promotion shake up.  Wouldn't be my choice, but I think we will line up like:

                        Gollini

Hutton      Chester     Baker    Amavi

                Jedinak     Gardner

Adomah           Grealish          Ayew

                       Kodjia

Might see Agbonlahor or McCormack start up front with Kodjia out wide, but I personally would have Bacuna over Hutton (might happen), Tshibola instead of Gardner (unlikely) and Gestede (unlikely) up front with Kodjia on the left instead of Ayew.

He'll play either Gabby, I reckon. Cardiff will play deep and on the counter so he'll want a focal point, he doesn't see Kodj as best through the middle and he's giving Gabby every chance up until he can get someone else in.

Massively important that we win. Keep up the momentum and closing that gap on 6th.

Very winnable game. You know ow they'll be hard working and organised, but so are we. You'd hope that if they let us have 71% of the ball that with our quality we'd give them a battering.

A first headache for Bruuuuuuce with all of the attacking options now available.
I think I would start with Albert, Grealish, kodjia & Rudy. I think we missed a focal point to our lineup v Brighton. I thought we looked nervous about playing the ball in to the "one who offers nothing."

Agreed. Replace Gabby with kodija and Ayew out wide. A more attacking option for a home game is Grealish ahead of Gardner too.

For me Kodja has to play down the middle of our attack, does not offer as much when playing out wide.

Bruce has gone on record to say that Kodja plays out wide because he wants prefers to.  I agree that I think Kodja looks more dangerous in the middle but given how many strikers we have (three who scored 20+ goals the last time they were in the Championship) we can afford to let Kodja play where he wants and still have a threat in the centre.

I'm missing this one as I'm in Penzance visiting the in-laws so it will undoubtedly be a 6-0 home win.

3-1 to the Mighty Villa with us hopefully creeping up to half way, I was so gutted that a draw at Brighton eventually left us in 16th place

Will be interesting to see the team that is picked tomorrow, really like Jack in the number 10 position. I read someone commenting that Kodjia prefers playing wide, that does surprise me tbh. Anyway, I am going for a 3-1 win

Haven't seen a poll that positive for a win in maybe 20 years.
SO ,   Seriously looking at 4.0, 4.1 , 5.0. best odds.

I think you'd be in the minority there. Even after all the shit and turmoil of the last five years I reckon this place would have gone into meltdown had we appointed Colin. Personally I wouldn't trust him to clean the bogs without bringing bog-cleaning into disrepute.

How's that then ? As far as I can see he's rescued a lot of teams from the depths of despair Palace and Rotherham to name but two and also promoted QPR and Palace to the PL and I'm pretty sure Cardiff will be ok this season. I feel there is a lot of undeserved negativity attached to Warnock in the same way there is/was to Bruce when in reality their records speak for themselves

Undeserved negativity? Warnock has done well with a few clubs, but any negativity attached to him is richly deserved due to his  habit of behaving like a complete shithouse. Just look up his track record. Far more disputes than titles. I think it's harsh to bracket him with Bruce, who has achieved far more without resorting to twattish behaviour.

I am amazed that people find him entertaining, he is a total cock and would hate him at my club. The incident v the Baggies (albeit another total cock in Megson) sums him up. Hope we stuff em

Don't get me wrong I'm glad he's not our manager and I'm delighted we've got Bruce but given the choice  and the state of the  team I'd have had him over  RDM in the Summer who I sensed would be an utter disaster

I was at that game. The man's a disgrace and he caused crowd to ruble outside after the game as he'd whipped the Sheffield United fans up.

Whilst all this is undeniably true, the fact remains he would have made a better manager than the joker we actually hired.

It would be a cold day in Hell when Colin Wanker looks like a good option as Villa manager. I know we have had to recalibrate our sights somewhat with Bruce, but Jebus that would be grim.

Might as well just close all four upper tiers and play Blur Song 2 after every goal just to have done with it.

This one will be a toughie because love him or hate him, Warnock is a decent manager and he'll have them up for it. I reckon we'll win but it'll be a close, edgy 2-1.

As for having him here as manager, I could have lived with it I think. He's done well wherever he's been. The Battle of Bramall Lane was a disgrace though.

1-1 for me.
Although I have a lot of optimism in how things are going, I still think that wins are slightly out of reach and come more through luck (good on ours, bad on theirs) than actually doing the biz all the way to the end. Happy with another draw though, things could be a lot worse.

I'd have been a lot more confident had Colin not taken over the Cardiff reigns, but I'm still expecting us to edge it & snaffle all the points.

So my (hopeful) prediction is...   Villa 2: 1 Cardiff

UTV!

With a tricky December (on paper at least) in store think this one we need to target to win.  Think it will be tougher with Warnock now in charge of them, but I think we should do it.  Will go for a 2-0 win.  2 from Kodja.

Ayew in for Gabby, Grealish for Gardner otherwise unchanged. I wonder/worry about the two man midfield.
