Villa Park. Saturday 26th November. Kick-off 3pm.
Aston Villa form: D W W D W D
Cardiff City form: W D W L L W
We will score two goals but concede one. Therefore, 3 points to the Villa.
-
If we are going to get in the play offs then we need to be winning these sort of home games. The tide has turned, we look more and more a team with each passing game, a win and a clean sheet 2-0, Kodjia and a Ayew screamer.
-
Lovely to look forward to villa games again. Really think we should be able to win this despite cardiff's decent form
four key decisions for me:
Formation - keep 3 hard working midfielders or drop one for grealish to play more advanced. I'd like to - but it's a risk against a dirty warnock side and given our personnel. I think this comes down to how Bruce feels they look in training. Are they taking on his messages about hard work - i.e. Will we get the second half against Blackburn or the first?
Ayew or gabby. For me it's ayew all day - kodjia central
Right back - Bacuna for me if he's not needed in midfield
Who partners Jedinak? It's really Westwood or Gardner (alongside grealish or Bacuna) or both. I'd put Westwood ahead of Gardner at the moment but the risk is a lack of physicality if we just go with a two.
-
Close one again 2-1 to us.Bacuna at right back Rudy at centre forward would be a bonus.
-
Ayew in for Gabby with Kodija central..Bacuna for Hutton...Grealish has to play, in place of Gardner or Westwood.
-
Logic says it will be tight - so 4-0 to us then!
-
3-1 please.
and everyone in the Holte with their shirts tucked into their trousers for Uncle Vincent
-
Wot - no poll? Booo
Couple of weeks ago I'd have said easy win but Colin Wanker seems to have got them organised, and Junior Hoilett and the ancient Rickie Lambert can be a handful on their day. They stuck 3 past Huddersfield last time out so they're on a bit of a high. Still fancy Villa to bring them down to earth with a bump - 3-1 to us
-
3-1 please.
and everyone in the Holte with their shirts tucked into their trousers for Uncle Vincent
eh?
-
Wot - no poll? Booo
Oh! Er, yes, erm, sorry! I forgot.
-
Looking forward the game but it won't be any walk in the park. Warnock looks to have got them organised. Dislike Neil Warnock and his teams intensely.
-
I'm also looking forward to this game I reckon we will win this 2-0.
-
I've missed our last victory over Cardiff at VP as I was away. I will miss this one too as I'm away so a routine win is on the cards. 2 - 0
-
Poll added folks!
-
2-0 home win.
-
It will be tough against a Warnock team but if we perform like we did against Brighton we should get 3 points. 3-1
-

I watched the last one in a bar in Lanzarote. I shall be in attendance this time.
-
Feel so confident about every game now
-
Two no-score draws predicted so far. Is that glass half-full or half-empty?
-
Aston Villa 3 Cardiff City 0
Jedinak
Ayew
Kodja
-
I have faith Bruce will set us up correctly and we will play a solid game. They could win of course, its football, but I am confident we will be solid.
Feels good to say that.
-
BE, do you have much "previous" when it comes to starting pre-match threads? Have we become so confident that we can toss the responsibility around willy-nilly?
-
Sticking to my recent form...... Away win. 😃
-
2-0
-
Would love just a solid 2-0 goal in each half, two strikers scoring, no fuss victory please
-
Think this will be a frustrating home draw....we haven't had one for a month!
Warnock will get them scraping and time wasting from the start, Cardiff will be very happy with a point.
1-1.
-
BE, do you have much "previous" when it comes to starting pre-match threads? Have we become so confident that we can toss the responsibility around willy-nilly?
It doesn't matter who starts the thread silly.
Also there is no Father Christmas and God is Irish.
Edit. Unless we win, in which case it was down to me.

As difficult as it is to get around Willy Nilly, I reckon BE's done a decent job....eventually.
2-1 to us!
Come On You Villa Boys!
-
High scoring win.
Villa 4 Cardiff 2
You can thank me when your bet winnings pays for your Christmas
-
I've been thinking it since we last beat Sunderland 6-1 on a Monday night "someone is due a right tonking by us "
Nailed on 5-0 win :) :) :) :) :)

When I saw this thread up already I thought 'bugger, it's not a Tuesday night game is it?'. Then remembered that it's on Saturday.
Both teams have picked up of late, but fancy us to nick it 2-1.

Provided I am over the shocking cold I've got I will be there for this one, my third match this season and have seen two wins so far from previous visits so going for the hattrick this time out. Hopefully we can carry on the good run, 2-1 Villa
-
2-1 with a nervous last 5 minutes as usual!
-
From little Acorns.....we'll win 2-0.
you'd be Dafabet on anything else
-
We need an early goal as I am sure they will set up to pack the final third of the pitch out
Other than very good efforts like last Friday it is hard to see us conceding at present
2-0
Replace Hutton with Bacuna
Westwood Jedinak Gardner
Adomah Kodja Grealish
-

0-2 Cardiff. Warnock climbs above Bruce on points in the Managerial Merry Go Round table in this crucial 6 pointer. Unbeaten record goes out the window and now free from the fear of losing a more cavalier attacking system is adopted and we ride to promotion on the crest of a wave - tonking teams on the way - deep joy unfoldy!

The sort of game we should be winning if we are going to be contenders in the promotion shake up. Wouldn't be my choice, but I think we will line up like:
Gollini
Hutton Chester Baker Amavi
Jedinak Gardner
Adomah Grealish Ayew
Kodjia
Might see Agbonlahor or McCormack start up front with Kodjia out wide, but I personally would have Bacuna over Hutton (might happen), Tshibola instead of Gardner (unlikely) and Gestede (unlikely) up front with Kodjia on the left instead of Ayew.
-
Ah Stanley Unwin, he was in his hey day when saw my first villa match in 59/60 season as a nine year old, against Cardiff City. I'm hoping for same result 2-0 but not the weather it was very foggy.
-
We'll smash them. 4-0

That's the side I'd go for.
Got a feeling he'll drop Ayew for Westwood and go 3 in the middle

Ace! Enjoyed reading that with my morning coffee. Been many a year since I thought of Stanley Unwin - and it hadn't registered with me that he was a Sir.
-
He'll play either Gabby, I reckon. Cardiff will play deep and on the counter so he'll want a focal point, he doesn't see Kodj as best through the middle and he's giving Gabby every chance up until he can get someone else in.
-
My first ever Villa game was against Cardiff and we won 2-0. I think history will repeat itself on Saturday.

I have that programe.
Not sure if is the horse that trod on my foot and broke a toe.

Love little stories from all those years ago. Hope you enjoy the match Tony ........

As I said, history will repeat itself so mind your feet on Saturday.
-
I forgot that Joe Bennett plays for them now and is likely to start at left back.
Doctor Tony is also flying in for the game.
-
Joe Bennett is apparently having a cracking season for them according to their fans. They highly rate him.
-
Massively important that we win. Keep up the momentum and closing that gap on 6th.
Very winnable game. You know ow they'll be hard working and organised, but so are we. You'd hope that if they let us have 71% of the ball that with our quality we'd give them a battering.
-
A first headache for Bruuuuuuce with all of the attacking options now available.
I think I would start with Albert, Grealish, kodjia & Rudy. I think we missed a focal point to our lineup v Brighton. I thought we looked nervous about playing the ball in to the "one who offers nothing."
-
For me Kodja has to play down the middle of our attack, does not offer as much when playing out wide.
-

Agreed. Replace Gabby with kodija and Ayew out wide. A more attacking option for a home game is Grealish ahead of Gardner too.

Cardiff City boss Warnock wanted Aston Villa job in summer

Bruce has gone on record to say that Kodja plays out wide because he wants prefers to. I agree that I think Kodja looks more dangerous in the middle but given how many strikers we have (three who scored 20+ goals the last time they were in the Championship) we can afford to let Kodja play where he wants and still have a threat in the centre.
-
I'm missing this one as I'm in Penzance visiting the in-laws so it will undoubtedly be a 6-0 home win.
-
Richard, you can celebrate with a pint of Proper Job in the Benbo after
-
We've moved up a place tonight. Let's hope we move up some more come 5pm tomorrow.
-
3-1 to the Mighty Villa with us hopefully creeping up to half way, I was so gutted that a draw at Brighton eventually left us in 16th place
-
Wow 84% confident we will trounce them tomorrow... When was the last time we had this level of optimism?
-
I'm missing this one as I'm in Penzance visiting the in-laws so it will undoubtedly be a 6-0 home win.
If it is I will pay you to miss all future home games😀
-
Will be interesting to see the team that is picked tomorrow, really like Jack in the number 10 position. I read someone commenting that Kodjia prefers playing wide, that does surprise me tbh. Anyway, I am going for a 3-1 win

Haven't seen a poll that positive for a win in maybe 20 years.
SO , Seriously looking at 4.0, 4.1 , 5.0. best odds.

I think you'd be in the minority there. Even after all the shit and turmoil of the last five years I reckon this place would have gone into meltdown had we appointed Colin. Personally I wouldn't trust him to clean the bogs without bringing bog-cleaning into disrepute.

How's that then ? As far as I can see he's rescued a lot of teams from the depths of despair Palace and Rotherham to name but two and also promoted QPR and Palace to the PL and I'm pretty sure Cardiff will be ok this season. I feel there is a lot of undeserved negativity attached to Warnock in the same way there is/was to Bruce when in reality their records speak for themselves
-
Undeserved negativity? Warnock has done well with a few clubs, but any negativity attached to him is richly deserved due to his habit of behaving like a complete shithouse. Just look up his track record. Far more disputes than titles. I think it's harsh to bracket him with Bruce, who has achieved far more without resorting to twattish behaviour.
-
He should have been banned for life after this.

-
I am amazed that people find him entertaining, he is a total cock and would hate him at my club. The incident v the Baggies (albeit another total cock in Megson) sums him up. Hope we stuff em
-
Don't get me wrong I'm glad he's not our manager and I'm delighted we've got Bruce but given the choice and the state of the team I'd have had him over RDM in the Summer who I sensed would be an utter disaster
-

I was at that game. The man's a disgrace and he caused crowd to ruble outside after the game as he'd whipped the Sheffield United fans up.
-
Whilst all this is undeniably true, the fact remains he would have made a better manager than the joker we actually hired.

It would be a cold day in Hell when Colin Wanker looks like a good option as Villa manager. I know we have had to recalibrate our sights somewhat with Bruce, but Jebus that would be grim.
Might as well just close all four upper tiers and play Blur Song 2 after every goal just to have done with it.
-
This one will be a toughie because love him or hate him, Warnock is a decent manager and he'll have them up for it. I reckon we'll win but it'll be a close, edgy 2-1.
As for having him here as manager, I could have lived with it I think. He's done well wherever he's been. The Battle of Bramall Lane was a disgrace though.

I was hoping to see the Albion get beat. An odd day as in the pub before hand a four foot something local came in dressed like a cow boy and nobody batted an eye lid.

I didn't know David Sullivan was from Sheffield.
-
1-1 for me.
Although I have a lot of optimism in how things are going, I still think that wins are slightly out of reach and come more through luck (good on ours, bad on theirs) than actually doing the biz all the way to the end. Happy with another draw though, things could be a lot worse.
-
Albert up against Joe Bennett. Could be interesting.
-
Looking forward to this. If we can pick up where we finished off last week it could be fun. For he first time in what seems like ages we have a a squad that gives the manager decisions to make.
-
I'd have been a lot more confident had Colin not taken over the Cardiff reigns, but I'm still expecting us to edge it & snaffle all the points.
So my (hopeful) prediction is... Villa 2: 1 Cardiff
UTV!
-
With a tricky December (on paper at least) in store think this one we need to target to win. Think it will be tougher with Warnock now in charge of them, but I think we should do it. Will go for a 2-0 win. 2 from Kodja.
-
Ayew in for Gabby, Grealish for Gardner otherwise unchanged. I wonder/worry about the two man midfield.
