Bacuna missing is a big blow....but Brucey could have pulled a masterstroke in naming Gabby
on the bench.

Send him out to warm up with 15 to go....they will shit themselves. Leave him on pitch at HT warming up frantically.
Lots of things Bruce can do physcologically with Gabby today.

I'd have gone with Tshibola rather than pointy. Bacuna will be a miss, it might expose Hutton a bit more.

I do wonder if Tshibola is on the bench so that he can come on and give a bit of energy in the latter stages of a game.

West-fucking-wood? The wettest lettuce leaf at the club, and we're throwing him into a derby? I hope Bruce knows what he's doing.

Flesh legs that can actually drive us forward in the second half. Westwood also has the big game experience.

Think Bruce has set us up to sit and then hit them on the break.

FFS, that is not the midfield I want to see for a derby match, Ashley fucking Westwood, for fuck fucking sake.  And Agbonlahor on the bench, you really can't be serious Mr Bruce.  I have a very bad feeling about today indeed, we're going to get battered in the middle of the park.

Suspect he's hoping that Tshibola can come on with fresh legs and give us a lift in the last 30, especially if the crowd gives the other lot a push. Until then, keep it tight, hold onto the ball and rely on the counter/a bit of individual brilliance. Gestede/McCormack there to throw on if we're losing.

Disagree, pretty solid to me, the problem for me is the midfield actually getting forward, presume that we are going to play counter attacking and use our pace up front, therefore our midfield won't see much of the ball from an attacking perspective.

If you think that midfield is solid you need to give your head a shake
probably forced through injury etc, but I just hope theirs is worse

Our midfield three look very slow, would have gone for Tshibola aswell but maybe he hasn't impressed Bruce as of yet.

Our bench looks very strong, Stockholm syndrome maybe but think this is a good game to bring Gabby back into the squad.

Westwood...fck! And I already paid betting we would win today.

Despite that injury on Bacuna (and thats really hurting us)....why Westwood?
How can something that's so obvious to 99% of the fan-base elude every manager we get?
He is Toxic! Now Gardner and Jedi will drop in performance, the defense will look haggard...and attackers will have next to no service.

Hope we can hang on for 45 and Bruce figure it out at halftime...  :-\

Scrappy game, but we've got to be pleased with things so far. We've defended well. I'm delighted for Gardner. I fancied him to score today.
We've lost a bit of balance and an outlet with Adomah off. Generally Bruces substitutions have been good, but I think McCormack was the wrong choice. I'd have brought on Rudy to give us a focal point in the middle, and use Kodjias pace out wide. Ross looks lost on the right, and we can't really rejig the formation to suit him. The three in midfield is essential in a game like this. Jedinak is martialing things pretty well. I'd personally be tempted to bring on Tish in place of Westwood to offer a bit more dynamism in there.

Shocking quality - not my main concern today though

We're definitely starting to get some luck and will need to start playing better reasonably soon

Jedinak's kind of game and he's doing well.

It isn't just you.

A few of our lot look like they have been on the sauce last night.

Still, we're somehow 1-0 up.

They have to come at us now, so hopefully a chance to kill them on the counter. Pinch another and they'll fold. Crowd already sound subdued.

Going OK so far, scoreline is everything. And their fans are horrible.

I know we have some dickhead fans as well but the sheer number of there 'supporters' giving our guys verbal abuse when they take a throw in is astounding. The hate they must feel

Shocking quality - not my main concern today though

We're definitely starting to get some luck and will need to start playing better reasonably soon

Jedinak's kind of game and he's doing well.

- but more composure and we can get our forwards into dangerous positions

Yup. Replacing Westwood would be a start.

Think Bruce been trying to introduce a faster direct play, Westwood is used to having lots of touches playing sideways and back, so now he doesn't do anything. Running around the pitch and doing some strange mock-pressuring but not tackles.... How many touches he had not counting stale defensive  headers...5 maybe?

We've made them feel inadequate their entire history. It's a  deep rooted mental thing for them, as bad as we get we still are better than them and it hurts them to the core. They wish we didn't exist so they could represent Birmingham and not embarrass it. We are who they wanted to be but never could be because theyre shite and over the years it's manifested itself in thuggish behaviour, like a child with issues.

Fuck them, scum to the core, lets give them another chip on their shoulder to carry around along with the large portion they already have.

A woman and her two children (one probably 20 the other maybe 12) have come and sat on the table next to me to watch the game. We're in the NW so someone else being arsed with this game is quite rare. They've all got northern accents but she declares they're here to support "the city" and calls the manager "Gary Rowlands".

Then the youngest son sighs and says "we should be supporting Man City, mum. You've known me longer than Dave."

She then informs me, who is trying really hard to not get into their family drama that ensued following that comment, that her new boyfriend is at the game and they're all there to support him. The kid says "some of us maybe" and then declares he quite likes Villa.

I've moved table to sit at the bar.
