It gives me great pleasure to introduce the post match thread....
Get the fcuk in.
-
Wow.
-
Merge delete I care not a jot....
-
Welcome back weekends
-
Spud-me-like
-
Zero shots on goal for them, Bruce has got us us tight as a drum already.
-
We really should of won 3-0
Excellent win.
-
7 from 9. Blose next
-
Get in!
Damn, winning feels good.
-
Stockinged foot, rubbed all over a human crotch, for two games.
-
Steve Bruce is looking the perfect fit for us. Fantastic!
-
Three unbeaten. The only way is up. Not a great performance but a great win. Kodjia is class.
-
The Bruce Effect
Does anyone have a link to the goal, heard it was a helluva scissor.
-
Have we won?
five mins extra time..can't look.
-
Two wins in a row incredible. Sounded like a good finish as well.
-
I love Steve Bruce.
-
I might treat myself to a look at the league table. Haven't done it in weeks.
-
Yess! Beaten the five minute hoodoo.. Bruce is greatest ever ever. Isn't he? Of course he is.
-
Finally we get the new manager bounce
-
well done Villa........need to get the IT working now
-
I'm denying myself a look at the league table just yet - I suspect the last 7 points have really closed up the gap though that was starting to develop between us and the mid table/playoffs.
Hopefully we'll make it 3 next weekend - haven't had 3 back to back wins in how long? The confidence of the team will be growing now, and developing - not a good time for the Blues to face us.
If we win next weekend, I might treat myself to a look at the table. This is much better. Great win today though... my it feels good! Should have been 3!

It wasn't a much fun as I was anticipating! Still though, 6 points from the paly-offs and 11 from the automatic places. We'll do 'em.
-
We are the only team in this league with an unbeaten home record! UTV
-
As Professor Stanley Unwin would have said..."Oh deep joy, deep joy".
-
Didn't get the OS commentary until I cancelled my subscription!
Fuck 'em. I'm sure there's an old fella in a flat cap, string vest, slippers, smoking roll ups, shuffling about with a mug of tea in his hand in charge of our IT operation. You know, the same guy who welcomed our new French manager and couldn't spell his name.
Hey still, a bloody win!
-
The confidence of the team will be growing now, and developing - not a good time for the Blues to face us.
It may not have been the best game of football but Bruce will have made his point to the players - you have to work hard in this division to get anything. Today they worked hard and got a result. Right now I'll take that.
-
I love Tony Morley's co-commentary!
I love the fact we've won two games in a row!
...and I'd love it, love it if we beat them next week.
-
At the start of the week Reading were unbeaten at home and Fulham were unbeaten away!!
-
We really needed those seven points, sitting joint 15th.
-
Finding a way, any way to see out and win game is a wonderful habit to develop. Bruce is still trying to figure things out and in the process has achieved 7 points from 9. That's commendable given the direction we were headed.
-
Stockinged foot, rubbed all over a human crotch, for two games.
You must be really supple?
-
Yesss!
-
Awesome. I am very satisfied. Seems easy when you can do it, doesn't it?
-
Predicted we win every game while Grealish is suspended....one more to go.
Scary when he brought on Pointy though...its like he dared them to score.
-
Anyone got a clip of the goal?
-
Now they know they can hold onto a lead-this will do wonders for second halves to come.
-
Get in! Back-2-Back wins has put a smile back on me mush. Bring on The Sty-Dwellers. :)
-
At the start of the week Reading were unbeaten at home and Fulham were unbeaten away!!
Ffeels good being the team to break those records instead of teams that cant win away, smashing us at Villa Park
-
Is our defensive strength down to the absence of Elphick perhaps? He looked dreadful at Barnsley and Preston.
-
Is our defensive strength down to the absence of Elphick perhaps? He looked dreadful at Barnsley and Preston.
I think we are starting to operate more as a unit and not leaving as big a gaps as we used to. The 3rd midfielder helps a lot too.
-
We are staying up!
-
When was the last time we won two in a row? Didn't happen last season did it?
-
Kodjia
9 Apps
4 Goals
Not too shabby.....keep it up.
Should of definitely scored two today, (5) in nine is some form. Next week Johnny, next week.
-
Couldn't make it today, but just wondering how Gardner played. I see Steve kept him on for the full 90 mins.
-
Zero shots on goal for them, Bruce has got us us tight as a drum already.
We did not have many either. In truth, it was a dire affair which was lit up by a brilliant goal.
-

And we will have games like that. We've had too many games this season where we have actually played well, created loads for of chances and fucked it up. A few wins not playing our best is a very good attribute to have. Eventually it will come together and we will have the performance to go with the result.
-
Got dragged shopping, as the final score popped up a let out a yessssssss and then had to explain myself to my wife. Even she was shocked and replied isn't that 2 in a row now?
-
Couldn't make it today, but just wondering how Gardner played. I see Steve kept him on for the full 90 mins.
Dynamic performance, kept himself involved all game though some of his decision making was a bit suspect. He broke through and had a great chance to put us ahead at one point but chose to cut back instead of shooting. Must have been a confidence thing.
-
We look much more solid without Elphick.
-
I'm starting to think we may not get relegated.
-
Zero shots on goal for them, Bruce has got us us tight as a drum already.
We did not have many either. In truth, it was a dire affair which was lit up by a brilliant goal.
BBC says 16 shots with 7 on target.
-
Fulham tried to do the same job on us that they've done at every away ground so far this season, to smother, frustrate and nick something. I believe this is their first away defeat this season? It may have been a drab affair, but the fact that we unlocked them should do us the world of good.
-
But of a dull first half but a great second half and Villa deserved to win by more than they did. Bit of a tense last 10 minutes but never any real danger. Thought Amavi had a great game.
-
Is it too early to say Steve Bruce's claret & blue army?
-
We look much more solid without Elphick.
Let me correct that for you, we look more solid when we play as a team - let's see what Elphick (and others that have been written off as not good enough), perform when they are called back into the team under the new manager's coaching and match day instructions.
-
Just got back and am very happy with that.
Fulham flattered to deceive and didn't give any real reason to worry.
Had we won 4-0 it would have have been perfectly fair.
The biggest thing that I can see is that we are organised, more organised than at any time in the last 4 or 5 years.
This organisation makes us look far more solid and we look a bit more assure.
All that panicky shit at the back, that we have witnessed for years is not quite so panicky.
A long way to go, but we are on the right road.
-
just saw the goal..
WOWW!!!
-
Any links for the goal?
-
Any links for the goal?
Yeah this - i've not seen it

Any links for the goal?
Kodjia is King! Stick it up the Blose next week!

Very nice goal
-
I might treat myself to a look at the league table. Haven't done it in weeks.
me too
-
Sweet!
-
Three in central midfield and Elphick out the team and ... voila!
-
Was at Bromsgrove for the FA Vase so thanks to RedSox for the updates. Get the fuck in!!
-
Zero shots on goal for them, Bruce has got us us tight as a drum already.

If he can keep games tight then we've got loads of the kind of players who can nick a goal out of nothing. It's not going to be like watching Brazil but it's working so far.
-
When was the last time we won two in a row? Didn't happen last season did it?
May 2015 i think ?
-
West Ham and Everton home games under Sherwood I think.

Cheers. That's a great finish, so hard to hit those let alone get it on target with pace. Less impressed with the defender adopting the duck and cover position.

It's funny on the radio the way it was described I thought that Adomah's cross was much easier than it was and Kod's finish was much easier than it was. Excellent goal.
-
Gollini - not a lot to do but kept defence calm
Hutton - steady
Chester - keep him in natural position and as captain please
Baker - couple of threppny bit headers but overall good
Amavi - so much better outlet than cissokho
Jedinak- probably best game so far but still not seen what all the hype was about
Gardner - though he had a very solid if unspectacular game. Unlucky to stumble when put clean through.
Bacuna- my motm and thought he worked tirelessly for the team. Considering the stick he had last year it says something about the man that has come back the way he has.
Kodjia- ran his balls off and took his deserved goal expertly.
Ayew - usual greatness followed by frustration in equal measure.
Gestede- really like the bloke but not at races today.
Subs
Adomah - great impact and cross for goal
McCormack- offered intelligence
Westwood- did his job, but nearly fucked it up.
Bruce
Intelligence with substitutes and has added steel and organisation and a bit of passion from the side lines.
Let's hope we put the unwashed to the sword and continue to March forward
-
Is it too early to say Steve Bruce's claret & blue army?
Holte End was singing that at the end.
-
Don't look back in anger, I heard you say!
-
Highlights (http://www.skysports.com/football/a-villa-vs-fulham/358266)
, more chances than I thought
with Ayew , Kod , Adomah , RMC etc we will start banging in some goals
-
I could get used to this winning lark, feels ace!
In Big Steve we trust.
Now let's make it 3 in a row against the great unwashed. UTV!
-
Quiz:
When was the last time we won 2 in the same WEEK?
Not only back to back but also in the same week...( Cup and league combo counts!)
-
Albion x2?
-
Both Ayew and Adomah could have made that as convincing as it really should have been. Fulham got what they deserved from the game.
-
-
So it was their keeper playing rushback and coming unstuck that lead to our goal? Sounded like he was pushing his luck.
-
Albion x2?
You are correct, forgot about that. That's almost last week :)
Felt like this hasnt happend since back when I had hair...
-
Amazing what a bit of belief and some organisation can do. Excellent win.
-
Just got back via offy for a few celebratory tinnies.
Great feeling to get the win after Tuesday, not enough work rate or commitment to press in first half. GG gets my vote for MOTM, ran and ran and ran and inspired his team mates to press more in second half which lead to the goal.
Kodjia is becoming quite the favourite, great finish to a difficult cross from Albert!
On to the sty; "We're coming for you, we're coming for you...."
-
Woohoo I won a prize!
-
Just goes to show the value of defensive solidity. Sounds like we've played much better attacking football and not won this season.
Good to hear we've been strong at the back and that the midfield three is making us look stronger. Bit surprised he doesn't seem to fancy Tshibola
It's three from six for the forwards at the moment it seems. Gestede to drop out presumably next week
-

Same here. I'd imagined the keeper in "no man's land" and Kodj tucking away a simple chance.

Yep something we haven't done for a long time. If you can keep clean sheets you're always in with a shout of a scrappy 3 points. These are the sort of games that would always go against us, but now Bruce has us organised we have a chance.
-
No idea how the whole game was (hopefully check it out later) but that looked like some exciting stuff.
Brucies liquid football!
-
Just got back, wow. Steve Bruce has simply got us playing like a TEAM, pure and simple. Great response from the players to the new managers instructions. For the first time in ages I feel confident that we are moving in the right direction, what a feeling! Don't look back in anger......is here to stay
-
Back-to-back wins! 7 points from 9. Not a bad week by Mr Bruce. The difference is tangible - players working hard, playing for the shirt, and playing as a team. Great work by Adomah and finish by Kodjia after their goalie fucked up big style. Should have been 3-0 with Ayew shooting wide after persistence by McCormack to set him up, and the missed header on an open goal after that which made the last few minutes nervy - but the other big difference, we saw the game out. Humble pie for tea for me after my criticisms of Gardner earlier in the season - he was excellent today. We have some very good players and a manager with tactical nous who's got them organised. For all their possession (66%?) Fulham didn't have a single shot on target. Well pleased.
-
Oh, and the traffic after the game was awful - took me an hour to get from King Edwards to the Expressway. And Westwood is just rubbish - we've played better with him out of the team and his first contribution after coming on was woeful.
-
That's a shocker of a miss from Ayew. Kodija v Wolves missed a similar one. I know most forwards don't pass in that situation but Luis Suarez didn't think twice midweek v City to roll it across v City. That's two certain goals messed up in three games . Maybe given the competition up front the forwards feel as it they have to score to stay in.
Going into the derby with serious momentum now.
-
Bruce was even coaching from the touchline. Particularly Baker. Good to see.
-
From the chances video it looked like Hutton was involved in the few dangers Fulham created.
On the radio it sounded like both wings was doing fine though, except for a short spell when Kodjia and Ayew switched side.
-
The pace of the first half seemed way too slow and enabled Fulham to play the ball out from the back from the keeper sweeper.
Second half was much better. Gestede was making no impact and isn't the most mobile and we weren't playing with much width anyway, so the substitutions improved the team significantly.
The midfield is still an area for concern as they all have limitations even when playing their best, but overall it looked much more solid though it probably helped that Parker went back and sideways to excess.
We were discussing how Button could come a cropper just before he did; he must have played the ball with his feet as frequently as the outfield players.
Having said that it was a great finish from a tricky cross. Some better finishing thereafter would have calmed the nerves though.
-
I agree our midfielders all have limitations and that position would be a priority for me to get someone new in
But as they were saying on the villa review podcast, the logical reaction to that weakness is to put three in there. Not two, and sometimes just one.

Helps if the creative one is named Bacuna instead of Westwood too... The Ball then sometimes follows in the direction of our strikers....
-
Good point Marton - Bacuna has come in for criticism in the past but he's another one who's playing very well in that midfield role, and not just in an 'anyone but Westwood' way.
-
Only a few weeks ago that would have been a 0-0 or a 1-1 both gutting. Either not finding the net or conceding late on. Last season that would have been a defeat ..now look at us ! Unbeaten at home ! As will be all season ! Can't see anyone taking more than a point from villa park in this league ! And teams are parking bus trying to frustrate. Villa today like agajnst reading had the fortunate for the win but that's part down to attacking and more positivity. We have been in unlucky previous with all the wood work in fact very unlucky. but in the highlights and what seen and heard today different story . Didnty hold on for a win we got wins! I woulf like to see better final balls in and finishing . People saying someone is going to get a spanking h by us soon and It could just be that Mob next week ! Gary Gardner and Nathan baker special mentions again and deserve to start next week . Jedinak is a basic footballer and he may revel next week if game is lively. Fair play to bacuna today . Oh that winning feeling so lovely watch us go ! Up the villa
-
One gripe, I wish the crowd would help lift the team on occasion rather than waiting for the team to do it. Our away support slate other home atmospheres on our travels, yet first half today was silent. The atmosphere at home games has been poor on the whole apart from Rotherham and Huddersfield. Hopefully as the confidence grows on and off the pitch the noise levels will grow also.
-
Bloody hell. I am optimistic. Bruce is already delivering what is required in the Championship
-
I was worried that I'd seen that game a 100 times before, an opposition with no intention of winning the game nicking something.
The key was getting Kodjia up top so we could press with pace. Much like Reading, and every other side in the league, they're not good enough on the ball to beat the press and it eventually cost them.
Brilliant finish and we really should have stuck two more away.
Ten out of ten for their Lambertism of pointless possession in your own final third for possessions sake.
The three man midfield is working. They didn't get the opportunity to run at our back four and Gardner and the impressive Bacuna give us much needed legs.
2 wins on the bounce. We're living in strange times.

A comments on that link refers to the goal being similar to Tony Daley's against Everton in 1988 which is exactly what I thought at the time. One of my all tine favourite Villa goals.

What's funny is it was exactly 28 years ago to the day. 22nd October, 1988.
-
Stats.
We had 34% possession, 16 shots, 7 on target. Fulham 66%, 5 shots, 0 target.
-
Albion x2?
You are correct, forgot about that. That's almost last week :)
Felt like this hasnt happend since back when I had hair...
Was it the Everton / West Ham home wins under Sherwood?
-
Just watched the extended highlights and for having less than 40% of the possession we looked to have 5 or 6 really good chances. I didn't see a single thing created by Fulham with the exception of a few short crosses.
Ross's footwork that led to Ayew's late breakaway was max tekkers. We should've won that game by at least three.
-
Did we really have 34pc possession? Seems unlikely
-
Yes Ross putting ayew in was a great move.
-
Did we really have 34pc possession? Seems unlikely
33.6% according to Sky. The 34% was the Beeb.
-
2 wins on the bounce brilliant. Hats off to Bruce he is really making an impact already. Bring on next week!!!!
-
That's about the percentage that Leicester won the title last year. I'll take that. The only stat that counts is up in the left hand corner of the TV for each game
-

They were consecutive Saturdays so not the same week.

Yes that's how I assessed Gardner as well. More confidence better choices and a left foot and we may have a decent midfielder in there.
-

Was it the Everton / West Ham home wins under Sherwood?
No, that was back-to-back but not in the same week...both saturdays wins. PWS nailed it I think.
-
The goal - would some refs have been tempted to blow for high foot? Particularly if the defender hadn't wimped out?
Lovely finish though and could have been 2 or 3. Winning two games in a row - great isn't it?
-
Delighted and no nitpicking from me this evening. Two consecutive wins and a much more positive, organised team, all from a manager who currently can only deal with what he's got. Well done Mr Bruce.
-
Voted Championship goal of the day according to SSN.
-
I like Bruce's tactics. Have a midfield that's only there for defence and focus on forwards forwarding around as forwards. Not a bad solution to the problems that RDM's summer left us with!
-
Stats.
We had 34% possession, 16 shots, 7 on target. Fulham 66%, 5 shots, 0 target.
The Fulham possession was a bit like we had under Lambert. All it was Parker tipping 5 yard passes either side and then back to the keeper. Most of their play was in between the D and the centre circle in their half. Those of you who get annoyed with Westwood would "murder" Parker if he was playing like that for us. An utterly useless piece of apparatus on the pitch.
-
Dont forget channel 5 now guys, i almost did.
-
I like Bruce's tactics. Have a midfield that's only there for defence and focus on forwards forwarding around as forwards. Not a bad solution to the problems that RDM's summer left us with!
I also liked his restoration of midfield trio for the last 10 minutes or so.
-
A couple of minutes before we scored I said to my son that if we closed the keeper down on back passes he didn't look comfortable at all.
Almost dozed off in the first half for the first time ever at a match, it was tedious. Much improved second half and don't think anybody had a poor game apart from the most one dimensional footballer I've ever seen, Gestede can head a ball and nothing else. Gardner impressed me and the defence looked solid, Jedinak was decent as well.
More convinced than ever that Bruce is a good appointment.
-
Delighted and no nitpicking from me this evening. Two consecutive wins and a much more positive, organised team, all from a manager who currently can only deal with what he's got. Well done Mr Bruce.
He's inherited a pretty good squad, all it needed was putting together and organising properly.
He's done a great job so far.
I'm pleased the way he uses the bench, too.
-
When was the last time we had 2 wins on the bounce?
Who cares, another win. Up the Villa!
-
You can see why Fulham do well away, the keeper, centre halves & Parker / McDonald just play tippy tappy keep ball betw then to strip any tempo out of the game - Gestede just never had pace to disrupt / pressure them. 60 odd per cent but I bet they didn't have 20 touches in our area.
Gardner / Bacuna / Baker & Chester were excellent, Amavi looked more like himself going forward again.
Pleasure to watch a team that has a clue what it is doing....be good for Bruce to get a week training with them.
Yes! Yes! Yes!
UTV
-
3 points were all that mattered today.
Didn't go but sounds a scrappy one...doesn't matter one jot. Newcastle and Brighton have had a few already this season.
Now the play offs don't seem that far away at all.
-

Couldn't agree more nigel.
Was pleased to see the solid common sense of taking a forward off and bringing a DM on at 1 up with a few minutes to go...pity it was Westwood though!
I am starting to see what I wanted to see from us...organisation, strength in defence and a timely (cracking!) goal or two...the midfield still a work in progress!
So happy with 2 wins on the bounce...what a good feeling it is!
BFS's claret and blue army!
-
Cracking goal, I could watch that over and over again.
Glad to hear Gary Gardner played well again. Well done Bruce and the team.
-
Bruce has got the team more organised in a week than RDM did in his 10 games, you can see a pattern to wok to and the players are all in their right positions.
The back four (Baker headed everything) look more confident with Jedinak in front and two energetic midfielders in front of him, giving us a solid spine.
Bacuna has never been a bad player and his position suits him well, Gardner looks a different player to the one I saw earlier in the season, Kodija is just a constant menace, whilst Ayew causes problems for any defence.
Adomah did well, Buce's substituions were perfect for the match situation.
It's early days but it's looking good, a solid team with a threat...bring on the Scum!

Yes, and that was also the last time that we won a home match played on Saturday 22nd October; the three more recent home games played on that date all resulted in defeats. Another hoodoo broken.
-

Our away support slate other home atmospheres on our travels, yet first half today was silent. The atmosphere at home games has been poor on the whole apart from Rotherham and Huddersfield. I thought the Holte was making a good old racket, the 10 minutes or so of relentless Villa go marching in was pretty phenomenal.
I thought it was pretty close in the first half, although we had the better opportunities, but once we brought Adomah on for Gestede we were a totally different proposition.
I don't mind Gestede if he's utilised properly, but he's a waste of a player if we play like we did in the first half. He won a couple of flick ons but if the other two strikers are wide theirs no one near enough to profit from the flicks he does win. The front three we finished with seems like the way to go, with Bruce bringing on a McCormack or Grealish for one of the more solid midfielders when we're trying to turn the game.
I thought Gardner grew into the game, he was doing a lot of running in the first half without getting near the ball very often, something clicked in the second half and I thought he was outstanding at times. Encouraging.
-
Oh my days.
For the first time in 20 years I dragged Mrs Remy down the match for our Anniversary (going for a posh meal on Sunday) and she got the sheer joy of a brilliant goal and a home win.
For those not at the game the goal taken was SUPERB.
Baker won most of the headers and Chester made some vital interceptions, they look solid and unpanicky.
Amavi was really good down that left, loads of times he bombed forward which was fantastic.
Midfield of Gardner, Bacuna and Jedinak is ticking along nicely.
Ayew looked dangerous and should have scored.
Gestede looked out of place and was taken off - pleasing to see we had options.
Adomah coming on was another inspired substitution that resulted in a goal.
Kodija - what a player.
Steve Bruce - Frankly his managing the knuckledraggers years ago means SHIT to me. The last 3 games he's got us organised, motivated and WINNING. He seems to have the luck aswell.
Bring on the sty!

Link to the goal:

A comments on that link refers to the goal being similar to Tony Daley's against Everton in 1988 which is exactly what I thought at the time. One of my all tine favourite Villa goals.
I was going to write that, very similar to TDs goal.
-
Zero shots on goal for them, Bruce has got us us tight as a drum already.
The absence of Elphick has helped as well imo

I'm not sure it's a personel thing, I think it's getting appropriate numbers in the midfield to protect the defence.

I quite like the spontaneous adoption of Don't Look Back in Anger.
It's got good ju-ju. I remember it being the last song I heard on the radio before we got to Wembley in 96.
-
The first half was one to forget. We didn't play that well in the second half either really but all through the game we looked organised and in the end, it should have been 3-0. Another one to build on.

Midfield still a worry for me - especially Jedinak- but just glad to get the points. Ayew looked classy but has got to take his chances. Looked very good central defence

He was frustrating first half but he improved second but then he was taken off. I still think he's a decent player who for some reason hasn't settled yet. Hopefully it's because he still isn't quite fit enough yet.

This sums it up good. Bacuna was bad last season but has been abused by inept managers over a score of seasons. He was quite good for us when he first arrived and he is versatile, he can attack, defend and once he wasn't even bad at crossing, passing and taking sets pieces. Then we started getting wingbacks injured and Lambert turned him into the squad band-aid. Sherwood abused him even further and played him all over the pitch during that period when he changed tactics every game. No wonder he lost heart and turned to the crap player we saw last season.
Now its obvious he is head and shoulders over most players in the Championship though and is growing with every chance he gets. Even in some of the poor games that RDM managed , he and Ayew were the only players that didn't look like stiffs.
Hope Bruce keeps playing with that inner middle triangle...rotating Jedi, Gardner, Bacuna, Ross and Tshibola as needed. I dont like when he uses Westwood at all. Not even as a sub like today...its the only part of Bruce coaching today I didnt like. Even if he got away with it...Fulham just wasnt good enough to benfit on letting them have a punt on us the last 10 min.
Ayew doesnt fade like Grealish do and that another big reason why we have 6 points this week. He remains a threat and often gets even better in the late stages...just from scaring the opposing fullback from venturing on the wrong side of Ayew he releives alot of the pressure on our left defender, who suddenly look useful again (i.e Amavi today). With Jack its the exact opposite...he start good and, runs himself out and everyone has to cover for him. Add Pointy and the effect is accelerated....Villa is all of a sudden showing its soft underbelly.
Confident we going to win against Blues next game but after that Jack is available again...and judging by the media, Bruce is a big fan. Very afraid the nightmare is going to start all over and the slim chance of promotion this year will vaporize before he figure out the Boy Wonder isnt anywhere near the image that the hype built.

Well what a difference a week makes.
Steve Bruce has got us organised and I drew comparisons with Brian Little's early reign after John Gregory left. Like Little, he's impressively going about his initial work and we now look a tough unit to break down.
Players are clearly growing in confidence.
Its going to be interesting to see where Bruce takes us.
-
Whilst the goal will obviously stand out from the game as the highlight, I have to say that Baker's performance across the 90 gave me almost as much satisfaction. I've been critical of him in the past, but if he keeps that performance level up, Elphick will struggle to get back in. .

I too hope everyone at The Sty next week belts it out acapella without the music when we're 3-0 up.
-
Just think Bruce has probably only take training on a few occasions with game midweek, am sure with more time he will sort things out. Good to see Baker and Gardner taking their chances and Amavi more like himself at left back and 90 mins will have done him good.

I know I had this debate with Ad@m last week but is Gestede really any good when he starts? I know he scored twice v Rotherham but they have 6 points!
To me the front three has to be Adomah-Kodjia-Ayew certainly at home.
-
I agree. Gestede is much better coming off the bench with 20 minutes to go. He did nothing today.
-
Gestede is worthless on the pitch. He can not do anything with the ball at his feet and wins nothing at set pieces so I am not sure what he contributes?
-
And by the way I thought Bacuna was MotM today.
-
Bit harsh IMO re Gestede Olaftab, but if you haven't got wingers getting the ball over he will not be as effective. Bacuna is doing excellent and gives energy in the middle and things are looking good. Lets hope we still think so after the game next Sunday, I think we will be better with a full weeks training
-

Couldn't agree more Des.
I thought Baker was a bloody rock today...the block at the end was heroic.

Your absolutely spot on, think he can start in a team that has strong possession and can cross at will from dominated flanks. But thats not us.
As an impact sub when we need to force the issue , sure. But never over Kodjia , thats so much better as the striker than as RW.
The real brainteaser is how bring in RMC as a starter and still avoid using Grealish and Westwood in any way. Maybe 1-4-1-4 ?
Kodjia
Ayew RMC Bacuna Adomah
Jedi
Amavi Baker Chester Hutton
Wasn't this close to how we played in 2nd half until we scored?
Is it too offensive to start like that?
Not a fan of Hutton though...but when the only other option is Richards.....
-
Avoid using Grealish in any way? Why would you want to do that?
-

He's fine when he comes on as a sub, can change a game like Forest at home.
I just don't see enough when he actually starts as teams work him out early and our build ups are more limited.
-
Avoid using Grealish in any way? Why would you want to do that?
I tend to agree, but he needs to realise he is going to be targeted. He got wound up at Ipswich and the silly incident v Wolves has to stop
-
Avoid using Grealish in any way? Why would you want to do that?
Grealish started the season pretty well but yet again has shown indiscipline off the pitch and he hardly did anything at PNE. And now got himself a 3 match ban and not been missed.
Impact sub until he proves himself worthy of a sub.
I agree trying to fit in McCormack is going to be a bit of a conundrum but way it usually works is someone will get injured and he'll get in that way.
-
Jack will have to force he way into the team and will hopefully realise that if his attitude is wrong he will not be in the team.

You mean when BFR left?
Yes I stand corrected.
Bruce is impressing me in that we're starting to look like a good all round side even after this short space of time. It's been missing for so long. Injuries aside, I don't see Elphick getting back in. Baker and Chester look a good pairing.
Teams working hard, confidence rising. Happy Days.
-
I agree, Baker can't be dropped at present and I know I keep banging on, but am looking forward to Bruce having real time with these players.
-
Gestede is worthless on the pitch. He can not do anything with the ball at his feet and wins nothing at set pieces so I am not sure what he contributes?
Gestede is the type of striker that thrives off good wide play coupled with a strong partnership up top, both of which he did not have today.
In his Blackburn days he had Jordan Rhodes to link up with but he is yet to find that partner at Villa. Hope he can find that while he's here, as I believe he is more than capable at this level.
-

I like Kodjia but I'm not sure he is the type who will play as a lone striker and provide a focal point. He works the channels and drops deep at times. I think therefore that we need to play a central striker as well and Gestede is probably the best option in that role at the moment.
-
Gestede has always looked like a really good sub to me. You chuck him on with 20 minutes to go against tired teams and he looks a real handful. He's a good option to have on the bench for that reason. He just doesn't have a meaningful impact in most games he starts.
-

Just a theory, but I suspect Ayew and Gestede doesn't gel well. Ayew rarely drive along the flank to cross (that would suit Gestede) but seems to excel at taking on defenders, going right through them and driving towards the box with ball at his feet. If he gets there he usually finish himself. If there is anything else you wish from Ayew is that he sometimes would set up the other strikers when they do provide the better option (Kodjia I think was wide open in that late chance when RMC got it through to Ayew). They other day it was Kodjia denying RMC as he finished himself. Maybe with so many good strikers on the team they just feel they have to score themselves to get picked. Gestede is the most unlikely to benefit if they do start trying to play each other in more often. He is way to slow and almost always covered on the ground by defenders at those pacy breaks (or even never manages to get himself in the box to provide the option).

Did he not score over 20 goals for Blackburn? Thing is we don't play natural wingers, so he won't be as prolific
-
Very good 3pts today even though a few more goals would have been nice...but you really can't argue with 7pts from the 3 games this week. Great start from Bruce and he seems to have us more organised already.
There is the makings of a good squad here that should see us get into the playoffs at least, and he's now got a full week to work with the squad before the Blose game next weekend. One thing I hope he gets chance to work on is getting our strikers to be more clinical in front of goal...it hampered us in the first few games where we should have been out of sight with the chances created.
-
I agree. Gestede is much better coming off the bench with 20 minutes to go. He did nothing today.
It should also be noted he had no service today.

Other than that one very good season where he scored 20, he's scored 30 goals in total in the other 8 years of his career.
A different option from the bench at best. Adomah-Kodija-Ayew is the way to go I reckon.

I think he is a good option with the right service, he bullied Newcastle when he came on but accept your point. What about Jack?

Has to fight his way back in, I guess. It's his own fault he's missing games at the moment. Good to have options though.
I suppose when it comes to the African Nations Cup we'll have to have a rethink for a month or so anyway.

I think Jack has to realise he cannot do the idiotic actions he did v Wolves, I agree with Bruce that a lesser known player would not have got 3 games but he has to learn. Gestede is no Peter Withe but decent at this level I think but perhaps not the way we are playing
-
You couldn't get much more clinical than that Kodjia finish. Just seen it on YouTube- what a strike.
I rate it better than Daley's as he had so much more to do to get into position. The ball in was excellent also.
Can't remember the last time I felt this good about Villa.
A win at the sty would be a marvellous start by Bruce. I'd settle for a point there though if I'm honest.
-
Kodjia was the one chasing the keeper down I think. I am feeling positive that a weeks training with Bruce will result in a handsome victory v the noses
-
I hope so mate. I hope so.
-

Yep great strike but how many chances did Kodjia, Ayew and Adomah miss between them today...and how many chances have they fluffed since the start of the season? They need to become consistently more clinical with every game.
-
We won AGAIN (haven't said that for a long time).
Watching the highlights we could/should have won more comfortably but I am happy with 1-0 and its great to see us keep a clean sheet.
-
had a great view of Kodjia's goal from my seat - it was a fantastic effort that sent the Holte collectively nuts with glee. Ayew should have buried his best chance but we won which is all that counts.
-
Good win, average performance, but a performance that showed some discipline and common sense, lead from the bench, Brucey just may have the making of a team here. Well done Villa.
-
Link to the goal:
https://www.facebook.com/myoldmansaid/videos/1295169837194657/
A comments on that link refers to the goal being similar to Tony Daley's against Everton in 1988 which is exactly what I thought at the time. One of my all tine favourite Villa goals.
What's funny is it was exactly 28 years ago to the day. 22nd October, 1988.
And Kodjia was born one year to the day after Daley's goal, which makes me feel like an old Kodjia.
I love that Kodjia/codger gag, me.
-
Kodjia's finish was top quality. He is a premier league player.
I thought he and Hutton linked up nicely on the right side. So much so I watched thinking "god if only we had a decent RB" which we have but sadly.......
Not a great performance especially 1st half. The fans were brilliant 2nd half, really good atmosphere.
Jedink looks a better player since Bruce arrived he looks like he knows and UNDERSTANDS his role. The defence looks tighter without elphick (though I might be doing him a dis service as under Bruce he may turn out to be the leader he was bought for?)
Gollini had little to do but what he did was solid and the defence looked at ease with him.
I like Rudy but yesterday we did at times fall into the hoof it long to him trap, from deep it never works he's so much more a threat when the ball is delivered from a wide area.
Listening to 606 on way home a Sunderland fan was very confident Bruce will get us into the play offs, we may well do it. We gotta stick with Bruce not turn on him when/if we have a bad run.
-
view from the lower holte:
bit different from what has been said above, Our best performance this year! yes imo we actually looked like a team. all starting 11 had "good" games I believe we kept Fulham to "no shots" on target, a team with an enviable away record , that is . 3 wins 3 draws. considering our lack of concentration in previous games and losing points at the death, I was very nervous that we were going to slip into that trap, but no theres a bit more steel in the lads.
The fans, first half very quiet, the fact that there was only 1100 away fans who did not sing at all, didn't help. but second half much better performance, and the holte resembled something of what has made it famous.
Gardner is definitely an improvement on westworld. I'm not saying he is the answer but, an improvement.
-
We've matched last seasons wins and points tally with 24 games to spare.
-
Thought Rudy was hopeless yesterday, fell over at least twice and doesn't run or do a lot apart from trying to win flick ons. The rest of the team were solid and did the basics right whilst also putting a shift in.
The spine of the team looked good yesterday, Chester and Baker, Gardner and Jedinak all looked very comfortable and then Adomah and Kodija and Ayew worked the channels well. Would like to see McCormack up front instead of Gestede as Rudy offers very little.
Massive improvement all round though and the one word I will use was effort, every player put a shift in and it made a massive difference.
-

McCormack can't play the centre forward role in a 433
-
To be honest Matt if Rudy is up there as a solution then I'm sure McCormack could do much better. I get what you are saying as I don't think he is a lone forward and is better off in a two with perhaps Rudy or Kodjia alongside him.
Wonder where Kozak is....

True but one thing is for sure. Brucie will know that and find a solution. I must admit I was totally underwhelmed with his appointment but I am won over in 3 games. We're no Barcelona but somehow in 2 weeks he has made us look like a team with a plan and a purpose. For that reason I salute you our very own Mr Potato head.
-
Bruce appears to be a very pragmatic manager. No trying to shoehorn players into roles that they are not comfortable with. He also uses his subs well, he seems to appreciate that it is a 14 man game and hopefully the players will buy into the idea that they may not start every week.
He pushed us ten yards further forward in the second half and it looked like Gardner had been asked to keep an eye on Parker who went from dictating the game to watching it. We also started pressing the keeper and that eventually paid off for the goal.
-
I don't know if it makes any difference but a lot seem to think it does but I don't think Bruce sat down once during the game and was forever issuing instructions.
-
What struck me yesterday while keeping my eye on the text commentary at work was Bruce's substitutions. Something Di Matteo got consistently, hideously wrong. In fact his substitutions contributed in no small part to us losing grips on games, and not being equipped to see them out (like leaving one recognised CM on the pitch FFS). Bruce however, made good changes at good times, which contributed to the result, in a game where we kept a solid side at bay for 90 minutes. We didn't play brilliantly on the ball, but we could have won by 2-3. Bruce has been very pragmatic and organised us very well. We don't have a dominant midfielder at the club. I don't see us dominating too many games as far as possession goes. We did under RDM, without creating anything. Just like that period under Lambert when we started getting 60% possession (by passing it pointlessly around the back) but creating fuck all.
We've approached the last two games pretty well. We've had the majority of the chances. Deserved both wins and we've let the opposition have the ball in areas it hasn't hurt us.
-
I don't know if it makes any difference but a lot seem to think it does but I don't think Bruce sat down once during the game and was forever issuing instructions.
Like you, I don't know if it makes any difference, but a leader should be demonstrating leadership. Sitting down for most of the match like RDM used to didn't come across very well in my opinion.
-
I quite like the spontaneous adoption of Don't Look Back in Anger.
It's got good ju-ju. I remember it being the last song I heard on the radio before we got to Wembley in 96.
It will be even sweeter to hear it from the travelling hoardes if we win against that lot next week. They'll be too thick to understand the irony however.
I'm hoping to hear this song a lot as we climb the table.
-
Amazing what a bit of organisation can do. We certainly have the talent to be in contention for promotion. Not getting too carried away but two wins in a row sets us up perfectly for the Blues game. They were singing their usual obsessive chants about us at Burton on Friday night until Burton got their second goal and finished them off. This included "Aston Villa were waiting for you". Bring it on.
-

Grealish fades for the same reason the whole team was fading - lack of fitness. For me it's a clean slate, new manager new coaches, better organised team including Jack.

First time I have left a game before full time in my life.
My wife was taken ill so I had little choice. The noise from the Villa Village car park when we scored was amazing!
Very pleased to get back to back wins and just in time for the visit to Small Heath...excellent!
-
Heard The Clash, Undertones, Jam and Joy Division played at Villa Park yesterday. Then heard bloody Emerson, Lake and Palmer, like punk never happened.
-
Hope your wife is okay.

my mate commented on that at the wolves game,
asked me whats this shit (elp)
I said its some old hippy shit, and suggested he get it as a ring tone,
but I don't know wtf there playing it for, to most of us it means FA
get Sabbath or AC/DC on
-
You couldn't get much more clinical than that Kodjia finish. Just seen it on YouTube- what a strike.
Yep great strike but how many chances did Kodjia, Ayew and Adomah miss between them today...and how many chances have they fluffed since the start of the season? They need to become consistently more clinical with every game.
i don't have fox sports anymore mate and getting any kind of on ternary coverage in Aus is nigh on impossible- it's a struggle to even find the score sometimes when h&v goes tits up 🙃 so I'll let others answer your qn. I'm just savouring that goal !!
-
Heard The Clash, Undertones, Jam and Joy Division played at Villa Park yesterday. Then heard bloody Emerson, Lake and Palmer, like punk never happened.
my mate commented on that at the wolves game,
asked me whats this shit (elp)
I said its some old hippy shit, and suggested he get it as a ring tone,
but I don't know wtf there playing it for, to most of us it means FA
get Sabbath or AC/DC on
Until the goal the highlight of the day was my son recognising songs by the Clash, Undertones and Jam, he's never shown the slightest interest in any of the 'old persons' music!
-
Felt giddy with excitement when my son rang to confirm the win, we have suffered for so long which makes 2 wins on the spin seem amazing, we have a proper football manager.
-
Feels fantastic and suddenly the playoffs don't look too far off
Let's not get too excited. We've not played that well of late but we've been much more solid defensively and that makes a huge difference. There are so many shit defenders and / or mistakes in this league that with our firepower that approach always has a chance
-
Well what a difference a week makes.
John Gregory took over from Little, not the other way round.
I took this to mean when Gregory left Brian Little's coaching team.
-
The good news: We looked organised, the opposition didn't run straight through us (like Wolves did last week), we didn't concede late, we kept a clean sheet, our centre forward scored an outstanding goal, the substitutions were spot on and perfectly timed, the manager showed leadership from the side lines, Jedinak and Amavi looked better today.
The bad news: not much really. We should have scored a second (Ayew's chance immediately after JK's goal), the win masks the fact that the game was a rather tight stalemate for long periods and could easily have finished 0-0, and Gestede, Bacuna and Gardner really are very limited players indeed.
-
Then heard bloody Emerson, Lake and Palmer.
Fanfare for the conman man?
-
As much as the midfield is looking a lot better, if and when we do go up you wouldn't want any of those three in your starting lineup
-
From where I was sat in the North Stand I didn't realize it was a scissor kick, just looked from where I was like it was on the volley so to see it back again now... wow! Great performance I thought, Fulham spend so look dicking about at the back passing to the keeper and amongst the defence I thought they'd pay for it eventually. And I cant say I am a fan of Don't Look Back in Anger right at the end, its a City song/band. Missed Hi Ho Aston Villa. Never mind.
-

Indeed. Massive overhaul needed if we go up.
-
Not the best of games but great result. To hold my daughter up and see her face light up on her first trip to VP was bloody brilliant. This followed by a night out with the mrs without the kids is making this weekend a nice journey north. One more trip to the pub this afternoon before heading back west in the morning, happy days.
-
If we can afford it and find the right guy, a £15m midfielder would be my priority in January.
I loathe to say it - as I think he's PL quality - but I can see Ayew agitating for a move this winter so we should have the cash regardless.

Why would Ayew be"agitating for a move" no reason I can think of.

This is what I think. If Bruce keeps us solid, even if he sacrifices an attacker to do it, then we've got at least 4 players who can make goals out of nothing in the course if a game, so we'll win more games than we draw or lose. It won't be especially pretty, as we've seen, but it's effective.
It actually makes you realise what a poor manager RDM was, since he was trying to force the issue with too many attackers and a non existent midfield when there was no need at all.
-

Not sure where you sit but as far I know there are no seats up there where you can lie down and watch? ;)
-
Is the Oasis song thing new?
No mate they recorded it back in 96
-
What's the whole Oasis shit about ? I'm completely puzzled how we've ended up with it
-

Sounds like your having a great time mate. You have given your daughter a true gift 😊 My first trip to VP was when the Witton End was terracing. A night match full house and my dad put me on his shoulders to look around. Unforgettable, I can still see it now. Huge crowd, floodlights, the Holte end looking like a mountain of people and cigarette smoke hovering above everyone's heads!
Thanks dad. Holte ender in the sky.
-
I f**king hate Oasis.
-
What's the whole Oasis shit about ? I'm completely puzzled how we've ended up with it
My mate said that yesterday, that it wasn't a villa song, I said it isn't but I think it's aimed at us fans not looking back in anger at Bruce for managing Small Heath, or some bullshit reason like that.
-
It was played after the Reading game, there was a video of our lot singing along to it, thats all there is too it.
-
I read it as not looking back in anger at what has gone before i.e the Lerner years. Aren't the club responding to the fact that the fans have started singing it. It's very apt and I like it
-
I'm really not a fan of Oasis, but if we only play it after we win I'd even be happy for them to play Be Here Now from start to finish.
-
Positives all over the place I thought but one thing that does concern is our corners are still a definite area for improvement. Other than that, we definitely seem to be moving in the right direction. And nice to see two games on the bounce where we've nicked it late on.
-
I hope I'm cracking open a bottle of "champagne supernova" at the end of the season
-
If we can afford it and find the right guy, a £15m midfielder would be my priority in January.
I just can't see who'd come of that quality
Maybe someone like chalobah or Loftus Cheek on loan from Chelsea, or one of the championship's best like that guy from brentford
-

If Derby continue to struggle then Will Hughes might be a shout. Ideally we could do with a left footed player in there to give us a bit of balance.
-
I've really just never seen it with will Hughes. All fart no shit for me
-
Who is Sally and what is it she can wait for?
-
A song that catches on by accident is always better than something pre ordained.
-
If the Oasis thing had happened 20 years ago, I'd have loved it because I kind of liked them. But then I grew up, and now I'm not so keen. However, it's spontaneous and not without meaning, so I'm all for it. It seems the kind of song that can only be sung along to (after the game), rather than just sung, though, so there's no danger of it becoming our new anthem.
-
Who is Sally and what is it she can wait for?
For Westwood to score from 30 yards.
-
Before yesterday the only time I remember hearing Oasis at a Villa game was the League Cup Final in 1996 - 'Roll With It' as the teams came out.
-

;-)

My ex worked on whatever the tour was shortly after that came out. Noel Gallagher ordered the soup and left the goal open for her.
-
No mistakes, no massive lulls in the players efforts, concentration for 90 minutes plus, fighting for second balls, the basics done right. Not a huge amount of skill or style on show but they performed as a team who knew that winning was THE important thing about the game, not just turning up and going through the motions.
It'll do for me for now, 7 pts from 9, Bruce immediately has most fans onside and some momentum behind him with two late winners.
-
What's the Story Morning Glory was released in 95.

Sorry but no manc bands for me. How's about The Day We Caught The Train by Ocean Colour Scene. Lead singer Simon Fowler is a big Villa fan. Or even something from Black Sabbath. Could you imagine Yanited or Citeh using a Brummie band? No way.
-
The day Villa run out to Ocean Colour Sh*te would be the day I stopped going. 'The Day We Caught A Train' contains some of the worst lyrics ever written.
-
Ocean colour scene? No fucking way
It would need to be a song with some resonance to our situation surely? Would rather it wasn't Oasis
-

There is no need to be so parochial. A manc band wasn't chosen, from what I understand Reading played it just after the final whistle and such was the joy and relief everybody started singing. It wasn't planned, it was utterly spontaneous. It won't be a club anthem but may be a song that will be looked at fondly in years to come as we recall good times.
Christ knows we could do with something to wipe away the misery of the last five years and this singing is an excorsism of sorts.
-

We played Crazy Train in the pre match build up now.
I was listening on the radio and could hear the fans signing the Oasis track after the Reading win so can only assume someone at the club heard that and decided to put it on if we won yesterday.
-
Its gotta be a brummie band, at least one of Steel Pulse must be a Villa fan ? Any excuse to play one of their records.
-

If it's our best chance of stopping OCS then we have to go for it.

You don't need an excuse to play a Steel Pulse song; I play them constantly!
Not sure any of the members of SP are into football.

If Villa started associating with anything by those kings of meat and two veg rock Ocean Colour Scene it would be a dark day. That song in particular is an abomination, I still blame Weller for their continued existence.

But there are many varieties of potatoes, they are extremely versatile and are often delicious.

I had an Ocean Colour Scene CD once. I tied it on a piece of string and hung it up at the allotment to scare the birds away

Thank God you didn't play it to them, Damon - causing unnecessary suffering to an animal is a serious criminal offence.
-
OCS are all noses, apart from Oscar the drummer.
The one that looks a bit like David Banner said he is an Evertonian, but noses tend to have second and third clubs that they hide behind when the shame just gets too much.
If we're limiting ourselves to Brummie artists only, it has to be running out to Nessun Dorma from BFR's mate Renato, he of Renee and Renato fame.
Post match, Joan Armatrading - Drop the Pilot. Or March of the Swivelheads by The Beat.

Works a treat. I did the same on my balcony a few years back to stop the pigeons sitting on my outside light and shitting all day long. Thank you, Mr Weller.
-
We can sing this by Birmingham's finest. Aston Villa are go!

Does anyone know where I can find Post Match thread?
-
I couldn't give the slightest shit who members of any given band support (or where a manager or player earned their money before, for that matter), but the PA system at VP is too shite to do justice to the bass requirements of Steel Pulse... Or anyone else, come to think of it.
Does anyone know where I can find Post Match thread?

well up until a week or so ago, it certainly wasn't in any football section

I think some people are missing the point. It's the words 'don't look back in anger' that make the song relevant, and it was completely spontaneous. It's a rare example of football fans joining the dots between experience and reality and actually making sense. That's to be encouraged.
And as for the meaning, surely it's to do with the last five years of utter shit, and our humiliating and degrading relegation, and looking towards a better future, rather than anything to do with Steve Bruce?
-
Any terrace chant/song has to be organic and grow from the fans upwards. Attempts to generate it from the club have failed, remember trying to get the Holte to sing You’ll Never Walk Alone? and I was part of the recording of The Bells Are Ringing!
It has to be a tune that is easy to sing to and words that everyone can pick up.
At the final whistle at Reading when they played Don’t Look Back in Anger and the Villa fans took it up, it felt right, especially waving to Steve Bruce at the time.
It doesn’t matter who recorded it, where they are from or who they support.
-
how is most of the crowd going to sing along to a ocean colour scene song that they don't know
the 3 main things about the Oasis song as I see it are
1- most people know the words
2- don't look back in anger are appropriate lyrics for a song chanted by Villa supporters
3- it was a spontaneous thing that happened not contrived
-
I always liked the thought of "Message to you Rudy"
-
Whether you like Oasis or not, it's actually a good song.
-
It is a good song, it's one of those that's been overplayed though. They've written better.
-

Indeed. Even over here I heard it on the radio commentary and raised a smile at the Reading PA playing that song immediately after the game. Right now we own it and for all the right reasons. I imagine it will piss off plenty of non-Villa supporters which can only be a good thing in my book.

Aston Revolution!

Spizzenergi's The Sun Never Sets on Aston Villa - best Villa song ever although I still remember Aint No Bluff, the 1994 Cup song.
-
Whether you like Oasis or not, it's actually a good song.
Yes it is. May I would suggest something appropriate to our owner which he would like.
Down at the Doctors / Dr Feelgood.
Because I like the song and The Feelgood's were a great live band.
-
OCS are all noses, apart from Oscar the drummer.
Steve Craddock is a Villa fan.
Just saying like.
-
Spizzenergi's The Sun Never Sets on Aston Villa - best Villa song ever .......
I actually was singing this, with Spizz on Saturday night in the Hope and Anchor in Islington - whilst a load of Arsenal fans and Captain Sensible looked on with bemused expressions.
Definitely up there in my Top 10 most surreal moments....
-
Whether you like Oasis or not, it's actually a good song.
Yep, love it. However I still like Oasis and Noel Gallaghers new band.
-
Two wins in a row we haven't had that in a while well chuffed long may it continue.
-
I like the song and the majority of fans at the matches on Tuesday and Saturday enthusiastically joined in so I guess they did as well. It may just be a "in the moment" thing but who cares let's just enjoy it
-
Whether you like Oasis or not, it's actually a good song.
Surely that's up to personal taste? I can hand on heart certainly say I don't think it is

A few years ago talksport had called him prior to a big Saturday game (can't remember which one now) but he behaved like a fourteen year old - something like "we're gonna smash the southern softie shandy drinkers". It was even below talksport standard.

What's the Story Morning Glory was released in 95.
Yes, but 'Anger was released as a single off it in Feb'96 (and was number 1 the night the last episode of Our Friends In The North aired when it played out over the end credits as Daniel Craig's character crosses the Tyne Bridge). To bring it slightly back on topic, I'd take Bond's muscle over Westwood's in midfield and he's probably not that much slower.
-

Exactly. I hate it when people try to shoe horn a relevant 'anthem' song in, usually by Black Sabbath or similar (and now Steel fucking Pulse) which probably resonates with a very small percentage of the support. Just because you like punk, metal etc, the chances are the majority of those who matter i.e. The younger livleyer noisier fans don't. The works well as it is spontaneous not contrived, as most of the best things are.

By that logic why would any young supporters give two shits about a piss poor middle of the road anthem from a time before they were probably born ?
Lets get something original going instead
