Result wise..no idea....Hope last night may have been a case of us turning the corner but we are Villa and every time we think we have turned the corner we run into a brick wall..Perhaps Bruce could be the one to make the difference.

I think we will just be better prepared for every game from this point on. Doesn't mean of course that we will win every game, but at least we will look like we practiced during the week. Hopefully that, the current quality in the squad and the players that Bruce will add in January will set us up for a very solid second half of the season.

For Fulham, I'll go 3-1

Kodjia, Adomah and RM

draw unfortunately. 1-1.

Fulham have the same GD as Villa (-1), but 4 more points. I wonder why that is.....i think we may still have a few last 5 minute gifts for opposing teams in our cupboard, but i think Bruce will get to grips with it before long.

If we can somehow manage to figure out how to keep a clean sheet we'll get 3 points more often than that, as I'd back us to score in most games.

I wouldn't be looking to make wholesale changes on the back of our first win in months so would go with Gollini, Hutton, Baker, Chester, Amavi, Gardner, Tshibola, Bacuna, Adomah, Kodjia, Ayew

Subs - Steer, Cissokho, Westwood, Jedinak, Gestede, McCormack, Green

I'm going for 7-0 Villa, Hutton 6, Westwood pen :0)

I would bring Amavi in for Cissokho and ayew for Rudy.

It seems Jedinak was getting better as the game went on so I see no point dropping him and GG deserves another go . im not a big fan of Hutton but a few said he played well so not point changing him neither.

2-0 villa

Title: Re: Aston Villa v Fulham Pre-Match Thread
Post by: Jimbo on October 20, 2016, 10:27:17 AM
It just might be the case that the likes of Gardner and Baker aren't quite as hapless as we all thought, and may benefit greatly from working with a manager and coaches who know what they're doing, in a settled team, within a stable club environment.

Likewise, Jedinak, as many of us suspected, might benefit greatly from playing in an organised midfield, in which his role is clearly defined, and where he is at all times several hundred yards away from Ashley Westwood, who should be on the third row of benches in any dugout.

Other teams seem to be able to use bog standard players quite effectively, so there's no reason why we can't at this present moment, with the help of an experienced manager.

Think of it like a factory, where everybody knows how to do simple tasks, and they do them over and over until it's second nature; as opposed to a factory full of dim-witted individuals who haven't got a clue what they're supposed to be doing, roaming all over the shop floor, knocking over tins of springs and buckets of chemicals. One produces high performance automobiles, while the other produces Birmingham City diaries.

Anyway, we surely can't win two on the trot, Allah won't allow it, so a 2-2 draw it is.

I think we will win this and as Fulham have been comeback kings recently, I am thinking we will edge it 3-2 after being 2-0 up at HT (Kodjia and Gardner), Fulham will put us under immense pressure second half and drag it back to 2-2, only for Ayew to come on last ten mins and win us the points!

Team;

Gollini

Hutton
Chester
Baker
Amavi

Tshibola
Gardner
Bacuna

Kodjia
Gestede
Adomah

In last match fulham impressicely fought back from 2 nil down . Scott Malone conceded 2 penalties -their version of cissoko then ! I think target him in defence !
Fulham are unbeaten on their travels and have that big lump Chris Martin playing for them.

I think the pressure of the job quickly got to RDM and he quickly became another Sherwood. At the end neither knew their arse from their elbow. I think Bruce being a little longer in the tooth won't make the same mistakes when results go against us. Panicking with team selections is a recipe for disaster.

I think we'll win 1-0 in an uncomfortable affair.

Kodjia will put us in the lead at some point in the second half, followed by us absolutely riding our luck defensively and somehow coming away unscathed (similar to the Wolves second half).

Fulham news:
Jokanovic the manager  said: only Tomas Kalas who is a central defender isnt ready for being included in squad.

Floyd Ayite started working today for the first time after a long period. He's now back with the group and we're going to assess him and choose what we believe is better for him and for us. He'll soon be ready to help us.

Tom Cairney was working with us. He would have been ready for the last game and we believe he can be available this Saturday.

Cairney is a decent attacking player and Ayite is pretty pacey and skillfull. Both these players are 2 of there better ones.

Fulham play better away and are unbeaten away. Second to Newcastle on away form this season. Their manager, who got Watford promoted in 2015, is rebuilding them.

Villa unbeaten at home.
But with the "after the Lord mayor's show" factor for Villa kicking in it will be a Fulham win.

Kalas is a very promising CB, on loan from Chelsea, who played at Boro in the Championship too. It's good for us that he's out.

Tom Cairney, got a good left foot and scores goals from midfield, 8 last season and 3 so far this, one we need to watch.

Use Gestede as an impact sub late on if needed, bring Ross Mc on at HT if one of the front three aren't doing their job and switch to 4-3-1-2

Fulham at home always used to be a nailed on home 3 points in the premier league. Even McLeish beat them with a last minute Weimann goal.

Look like one of these sides who score and concede plenty (4-2 last away at Barnsley) so think it will be an open game tomorrow which should suit us and give us space to run into.

3-2 win.

A hard fought Villa win 2-1

Correct.  If we score 1 goal the objective has to be get another.  If we get another the objective then is to get another. If we get another the objective then is to get another.
What if we then get another?

Great if we do.  I'll be happy as long as we don't think for one iota that one single goal right up until the 90th minute is sufficient for this Aston Villa to win a game of football.

Just realised we've gone above the mighty Burton Albion albeit on goal difference. Hey, come on, we all have to start somewhere!!!

in the Maloney game Zat Knight scored the other Villa goal, an own goal, while he was still with Fulham. A week later he had moved to Villa and scored in the 2-0 win over Chelsea which effectively got Mourinho the sack

Funnily enough we saw him jogging on the Sunday morning around the Grange Rd pitches in Erdington after that Fulham game, obviously he'd stayed at his Mom's house around the corner (which we only knew subsequently thanks to his brother getting knicked there and it being front page of the mail).

I have been ill since Wednesday but have shaken off my virus/bug God knows what it was and am going today.

Ashamed to say the last game I went to was the 3-1 over Man city a few years ago.

Will predict the same result today, 3-1 villa, with Kodija,Adomah and Baker for us, Aluko for them.

One game at a time, we do need a win or Tuesdays heroics were for nothing.

I'm going down today, does anyone know if you can get the 4 for £40 deal on the day?

I've just called the ticket office for the 4 for £40, they told me they were struggling for them, so if you want them, phone ASAP. I just about managed to get some.

A proper football fixture - two great old clubs playing each other at 3 o'clock on a Saturday afternoon, albeit sadly not in the top tier. Can only be a draw. 2-2

I think it'll be a tougher game that some people think today, they're not too bad a side. I think we'll just about edge it though, 2-1.

I think it will be very tough. Hoping we don't concede first or it could be a real slog to battle back for a point.

First away win in 14 months against all the odds, I'd say that's pretty Heroic?!?

Are we not all about Heroes and Villains on here? ;)

For those of a certain vintage, why not? And they're great to think of a neutral section, awfully polite altogether.

Cheers, just called and got some in T2 North Upper.

Now I have a spare adult ticket, anyone fancy it for £10?

My mistake, we beat city 3-2 the last time I went to villa park, may be the same score today, think it will be close.

Fulham, a great club?

What I call a proper traditional old club and always had a soft spot for them, with the walk to their ground second only to my stroll across Aston Park on matchdays. Sure they've not won anything but still a great old club in my eyes.

May be not great but a very decent club despite Dodi's dad messing them about for a few years.

Agreed - I'd say they are a great club, but for very different reasons than ourselves.

Though saying that they have been in more European finals than we have in the past decade...

The other night should give us a big lift.  Fulham at home is certainly winnable anyway.  Will go for a 3-1 win to us.  Bacuna, Kodja and Ross.

Adomah was touch and go to even be on the bench, but I like the line up. Gardner played well the other night and we need that little bit of competition in their with Tshibola.
