No Westwood. Hurrah.

No Ayew hmmmm...

Where's Amavi?

And the return of Richards to what appears to be RB

Better balanced side for sure, not happy to see that clown Richards at right back but guess its a clean slate for all.

Ayew came back early from international duty for treatment. He may not be fully fit.

Not too bothered Ayew isn't starting, personally I think he's been very poor so far this season.

No Mutton or Pointy either, great!

Apart from that **** Richards in the team, I like it. Glad he's brave enough to drop Ayew to the bench. I expect to see a few subs used today as I doubt very much the team are fit enough yet.

Why in the hell would you be glad that Ayew is on the bench? What kind of support is that?

Ayew came back banged up from international duty and he was Championship player of the month for September.

We have to find a winning formula. If that means trying a front two rather than 3 or 4 or 5, so be it. Nobody is bigger than the team.

Looks like Bruce has gone for his biggest back four possible.

Westwood can point from the stands/subs bench! Want RM and Kodjia to form a good partnership - since Bruce wants the ball up front earlier expect RM to play further back.

Right! All my fingers crossed and a little prayer to the football gods have been made.

I like the look of the line up, looks balanced. We could do with Richard's rolling back the years to when he looked like an international right back and Jedi and the skipper finding some form.

Other than that the luck I've prayed for, now come on Villa!!

Probably. You would imagine he would be playing but I'm all for McCormack, Grealish, Kodjia and Amomah scoring a goal each in a 4-0 romp and keeping him out when he is fit !

No Pestwood = an immediate plus in the Bruce column.

Only problem is with Jedinak coming back from international duty, the rotter will probably have to come on in the last 20 minutes.

Lets hope and pray we are 3 or 4 nil up by then and the Westwood handicap doesn't impact on us too severely.

I wonder if it's confidence, but isn't it weird how our players just freeze whenever an attacking move breaks down?  They just stand and watch to see what happens, rather than making an attempt to close down, to challenge, or even to anticipate where the ball might go next.

Sad thing is Wolves are there for the taking, but we're probably not the side to do t.

I wouldn't bet against us getting a second. But if we do, Gollini will throw one in, Richards will trip over his own feet or Elphick will pick out one of their players in his own penalty area with an inch perfect pass.

Cissoko has got his clanger out of the way early today, hopefully.

Yep, he isnt smart enough. Probably killed off too many braincells...wastes energy charing back from bad situations he himself often cause and then fades way to early in games.
Usually might be good for a half  but not today. Need him off for Ayew asap.

The interesting thing is if Bruce can see that....RDM never did.

Gollini -Unused
Richards - Better
Cissoko - Ok
Chester - Edgy
Elphick - Ragged
Tsibola - Clumsy
Jedinak - Improved
Adomah - Ineffective
Grealish - Ponce
McCormack - Uninvolved
Kodjia - Class

Kodjia and Ayew are miles better than anyone else in this squad, but Kodjia did let the team down a bit by not passing at the end there. Pleasantly surprised by Richards although he does need to track back more after his runs forward.

This was the worst half of football I have seen at Villa park this season.😟

You didn't see Newcastle at home?  Forest at home first half wasn't too clever either.

We've had a bit of attacking verve at various stages this afternoon. Not just chances out of the blue, but chances coming from sustained pressure.

But then we have Richards or other numpties presenting the ball back to Wolves, and we start getting anxious again. The forwards and midfield don't trust our backline (and who can blame them) so they are conscious of that rather than going for the throat. One misplaced pass even in the opposition half has the possibility of opening us up because the defence is so brittle. So attack minded players go for the safer ball more often that not.
Title: Re: Aston Villa v Wolves Match Thread

I reckon they'll wait till an hour to let us fully blow out, then come at us and most likely win.
Title: Re: Aston Villa v Wolves Match Thread
Post by: Rudy Can't Fail on October 15, 2016, 06:33:50 PM
Positives:

We're showing some fight
Grealish is finding plenty of space on the left
Chester looks like a defender
We should be 2-1 up
Wolves are poor
We have options on the bench

Negatives
Too many to mention all
The defence
The midfield
The crossing
The lack of bodies getting in the box
We're still not any where close to winning 50/50s
Richards

I know Bruce has only had 2 days with them but the players look like they only met for the first time 2 days ago.

That's a good shout. Westwood got pelters for giving the ball away vs forest but based on where it was he should have been able to rely on a functioning defence to bail him out.

What really makes me want to shit my face off is the fact that Wolves don't just look better than us, they look like visitors from Planet Football.

It's the worst second half of football I have seen from Villa this season

yep we have been an utter rabble, Baker coming in now for Elphick

Wolves have been excellent mind, playing us off the pitch, exposing worry shy tossers like Grealish and McCormack in the process

Hause has been been exceptional at the back for them.

Swap our 11 with theirs from the start, and Richards and Cissokho and Elphick would have all been excellent, as would have Jedinak, Grealish and Adomah.

New managers, owners, coaches, players or tea ladies can't fix this rotten club.  It's baffling.

The Dogheads will be kicking themselves if they don't win this. I didn't think Villa could go any lower, but they still manage to surprise with this shocking 2nd half 'display'.

Bruce should be suitably awake to the lack of professionalism of our players - be it quality, determination and commitment.
