Things feel so much better with the return of Westwood and Bunn to the starting line up.

Westwood.     RDM you are a prize plum.   If we don't win today it's your fault.

Hutton and bunn in. Hmm

Weird Tish isn't starting. Maybe he needs to not play too many games in a short space of time as he comes back

Either way, that's not an encouraging line up. Surprised he's gone with the same front four too

Maybe instead of bringing Westwood on to close out the game he'll bring on Tshibola. RDM will then be heralded as a genius.

Ropey at the back and inviting the pressure with Westwood in midfield as he offers nothing going forward. Bunn
must be in because of injury.

Midfield looks wafer thin and Hutton is back.

I don't like it

Maybe Tish is unable to play 2/3 times a week..It's going to be paramount that we get some cover in come January. If we can get ahead going into the second half, the option to bring him on could be vital.

Steer on the bench..wonder if Gollini is dropped or injured.Begbie getting the nod at right back...Callum Robinson will be putting the industrial, fearnought shinpads on.

I feel we actually have a couple of options off the bench for the first time this season bearing how much spondulies we've spunked.

It's the midfield I can't get my head around. That line up is not going to be creating any resistance at all.

I'm firmly in the RDM 'give him time camp' but that line up makes no sense to me. Can't believe McCormack and Tishbola are on the bench

I can see Boon,  the pointy one and the bearded one all looking confused as Preston stroll through the middle in the 90th minute to equalise.

Maybe instead of bringing Westwood on to close out the game he'll bring on Tshibola. RDM will then be heralded as a genius.

or as a totally off the wall thought, start your best team, have a game plan, a vague idea of in game tactics and coaching then you wouldnt have to see the game out

Without seeming overly negative that line up looks fucking rubbish

Bunn, Hutton and Westwood? If they are the answer I am struggling to work out the question...

Hoping RDM is a tactical genius and is going to prove me wrong #UTV

So Gollini dropped because he's not up to an arial bombardment and two in the middle again with our best midfielder on the bench. Crock of shit. Grealish was very poor midweek, doesnt deserve his place either.

It's not inspiring confidence. But many of us have wanted more of a 433 and you can't do that with McCormack. Whether jack can really do that - or will be asked to do that -  I'm less sure

Been wondering that for the past few games.

Might even go as far back as the owner tweeting our transfer business in the summer. Perhaps he feels the role doesn't match the job description.

I assume Golli and Bacuna are injured. It's a bit of an Eric Black style starting 11.

See that thing disappearing into the distance? That's my confidence we'll win today that is.

Hutton I can understand just about.  But fuck me how McCormack is not in the side instead of Grealish I am a bit perplexed by. He's our most creative player and best finisher, should start.  So should Tshibola if fit.  Steer is also better than fucking Bunn. Grrrr. I keep thinking yes give RDM time etc then he does things that remind me of Sherwood.  I really hope Ayew starts closer to Kodjia and Grealish plays wide.

And Westwood. Fuck me.

Maybe Tish is unable to play 2/3 times a week

He's got 17 days off after today in which to rest before he's likely to kick another ball for us. So i'm pretty sure he could've managed another 90 minutes today in all fairness
Title: Re: Preston North End v Aston Villa Match Thread

Bacuna is suspended

Gollini is presumably injured as not on bench

Hoping for more of a 433 today

Worried about Daniel Johnson against westwood and Jedinak - not the most energetic of midfields

Jedinak will settle down and Tshibola is a good player but we need 2 more in there with legs and a bit of ability. Let Gardner go to forest and sell Westwood to a club by the sea to be with his mates.

I can understand the players who've been dropped and the sight of McCormack coming on with twenty minutes to go could be the Championship equivalent of when Manchester United used to use Giggs in the same way. The first two replacements, though, show that we're short of a steady veteran keeper as back-up and a decent second choice central midfielder.

why buy on of the division's leading goal scorers to leave him on the bench. This is a Black-esque selection that could seal Robbie's fate.

Hutton I understand with De Laet injured and Bacuna suspended. Westwood is slightly puzzling but, given the right players around him (which he doesn't have in that line-up), can pass reasonably accurately when he has time but Bunn over Steer if Gollini is injured is one I just can't see the reasoning behind.

Westwood looks good in a 3 man central midfield because his sideways passes look tidy and intelligent, but when he's sitting next to Jedinak he's going to be expected to feed the more advanced players. I think he'll struggle.

If we extend our winless away game streak today I'm going to be furious.

How do you work that out.  To me it is passing the buck.  The first option should always be forward.  If we are going to be up near the top of the table, we cannot afford to have a midfield player that plays balls to players that are in no better a position than he is and usually in a worse position which ends up with the ball going backwards to the keeper and then back out again.

Can we not just sack the gorm, pick a random from the crowd who will more than likely come up with something that makes more sense than this shit and go from there.

I have a yardstick I've applied for the past 3/4 years. If you pick Westwood when you have other options then you have no fucking clue what you are doing, Di Matteo fails the test again.

This is pure shit. As soon as we saw another fucked line up It felt like a write off. Bare in mind Preston are shit, they won't be anywhere near the play offs this season.

19th in the Championship.

That's pretty staggering stuff.

We are playing like a side sitting in 19th. We've only beaten fucking Rotherham who are with us solid candidates for a stint in League 1 next season.

It started when Bristol equalised ,  he's been a liability ever since,  I mean really really shit.   Imagine a decent 3 man midfield and a replacement for the dreadful Elphick,   and would walk this league.   I think RDM is the worst of the latest shit managers.

We need someone that knows how to turn something like this round. I would get Sam in tomorrow if I was Xia. He knows how to win at all cost at this level.

I wanted Allardyce in this time last year - missed opportunity now as I think there's a chance he may be banned from football for a while

We are in a mess because of many things - appointing inexperienced and young managers being foremost in my mind.

This isn't the time or the place for a young prospect - we need a die hard, charismatic, and no nonsense manager and it has to happen fast.

RDM ain't going to turn this around

People talk about Warnock, Big Sam etc - what in our playing squad makes people think that would work? We must not hire a relegation firefighter manager with the remit of building a squad of big fucking lumps - we've had quite enough disjointed thinking up til now.

Jedinak and Elphich look finished, all the energy of fucking grand pa Joe. The team as a whole, well, they aren't a team, there's no sign of any instructions, no sign of any plan, no sign of any training together or coaching, just the usual 11 faces trying to get through 90 minutes and see what happens. There's no shape to the team and no idea on how we go about creating a goal.

In other words it's exactly like how it's been the past 6 years. So by that we already know RDM is a clueless duffer who hasn't a fucking clue what he is doing. e looked better when the season started because now the lack of coaching and organisation is starting to hit home and decent players are starting to look anonymous.

Fuck him right off as soon as the evening is finished, this is a total shambles and an embarasment. We play at a snails pace with no idea what to do with the ball.

Get Westwood off, ****** of a nothing player, get Elphick off, carthorse, get Grealish off, crisp packet that floats around doing feck all. Get Tshbola on, get McCormack on, Get Baker on. Take our beating, sack this prick and the statues he has sitting on the bench next to him doing bugger all and use the next 2 weeks to bed in a new manager.

We fucking go again, brilliant.

There's a terrible knee jerk tirade on here right now. We need to wait a while for the posters to come out with the opposing view that RDM needs at least the full season to work his magic and that our best midfielder Westwood is being hopelessly mismanaged by not forming a midfield three, allowing him to demonstrate his prowess with his efficient 10yd ponderous sideways passing. It's been said by others before - we seem to acquire decent players and coach every ounce of skill and belief out of them. The likes of Elphick and Jedinak are supposedly captain's material and leaders (maybe we were just conned), and Gestede scored 22 goals in his last season with Blackburn, likewise McCormack and Kodjia scored over 20 goals apiece in their latest Championship seasons. Ayew is supposedly one of the best players in the division. So our current predicament is purely down to coaching, formation and tactics - all the manage's responsibility. He's got to go

Fuck worrying about the formation.

Just get stuck in, move, pass, show desire, and fucking shoot if you see their goal.

Middlesborough went to Spain
Got Aitor Karanka
Villa went to Rome instead
And got this useless wanker.

Dr Tony went back to Rome
In a Ford Mondeo
He dropped off a useless c**t
Roberto di Matteo

How about we pick a manager who is not banned, not out of work, therefore, cheap, not shit, not a complete chancer. Piss another club off, stop acting small time a g go and pay for a man who knows what the fuck he's doing.

Do you have anyone in mind?

Hughton, Rowett, Bruce (oops, out of work, sorry, forgot about him).  Hughton would be my choice. Who knows, RDM might yet pull it round!

That's cheating! Pick one (I'm not having a go by the way, just trying to lighten the mood a little)

I did pick one!! Hughton. No doubts we'll ruin him as well, lol.

You buy that many players in one summer and you assume they're being signed to fit a specific system and style but it's beginning to look like RDM just scattergunned and hoped for the best.
It's like when my she-who-must-be-obeyed sends me to the shops with a specific list of items and I return with some double-chocolate Magnums, two bottles of wine and a large bag of crisps but not the bog Roll or the milk.

Brilliant!!!

What's the magic number of points to be safe from relegation at the end of the season in this division?

Pretty close to 1 point per game, so we're really starting to sail close to the wind in that respect.

Considering how shit Preston are, this is one of the most inept performances of recent years, which is some fucking 'achievement'.

What this abject surrender needed was some Bacuna smirks, a player arguing with a supporter or a comedy own goal or gaffe, it's not a real Villa abject surrender without any of those.

In all seriousness though, taking in to account how shit a standard of football this division is this is well up there with the worst performances put in during the last 6 seasons. Completely outplayed by a terrible team near the bottom of the championship after spending the most money ever seen in this stinking shit hole of a division. Fantastic.

What's the magic number of points to be safe from relegation at the end of the season in this division?

Mid-40's is usually enough, although Blues only stayed up on goal difference with 44 points a couple of years back. Peterborough and Wolves went down the season before with 54 and 51 points.

Preston have conceded 15 fouls and had two yellow cards, Villa 7 fouls 4 yellows, are Villa fouls worse than other teams?

15 points off 1st
12 points off 2nd
10 points off the play offs

after 11 games, you couldnt make it up

still at least we will be in the champions league in 5 seasons
