Title: Official Website
Post by: ajmant on September 29, 2016, 12:59:41 PM
Is it me or do basic things on the website just not work. Such as the results of the first team ( I know, why look its a draw!), and the latest link for on this day at https://www.avfc.co.uk/on-this-day/09/29/1990%20-%201999/collymore-hat-trick comes up in a foreign language?

Who do I need to contact at the club to point out these errors.

I don't think the Official Site should get the blame just because you're too lazy to take the time to learn Latin.

You could try Tweeting Dr Tony if you're into such things.

It's not a foreign language -  its called 'Lorem Ipsum' (Fake Latin text ) to show where the info will go. They have changed the article now...

Fucking rubbish.

Won't accept my login credentials, shows me an error page (not an AVFC 404 page or anything, just an IIS error). Can't link account to facebook account. Shows "session expired" constantly.

Are they EVER going to fix this shit? It's been like this all summer.

Why do you need to log in to the official site?

I was trying to find the U23 results the other day but could only find future fixtures. I ended up going on Statto and Soccerway instead. I've also been waiting to order a new polo shirt but the one I want is showing as still out of stock, with out of stock sizes due in mid-August! Can't find the cup scheme form either - and in spite of ringing the ticket office twice I still haven't received one. Not impressed

Why do you need to log in to the official site?

I wanted to see the Bruce videos for starters.

Sorry, I didn't realise you had to log in to see them. AVTV yes but not the official site

I am still gobsmacked that the company that runs the online shop wanted to charge £15 p&p to send a £5.00 key ring to France. Outrageous.

I would have bought a couple of key rings and and a couple of mugs. But not for £15 postage. I'm no mug.

I was looking at the club website over the weekend and noticed something odd.

On the front page there are options to switch from English to Spanish language and what I assume to be Arabic.

The Arabic section is full of recent stories that appear to mirror what is on the English section.

The Spanish section, however, hasn't had a news story in about two weeks. And beyond that the stories appear sporadic. Not to mention there were clues that they'd used Google Translate (or similar) to generate the story in the first place.

I realise many won't care, but if this club wants to build its profile in Spanish-speaking locations then they should at least do it properly. If not then maybe they should just remove the Spanish function.

Mugging off is not permitted.

It's not that the site is shit. More that the one part of it isn't being updated properly. It seems a really half-arsed attempt to connect with a certain audiance. An audience that maybe interested in Unai Emery. Or Pau Torres and Álex Moreno. Or Emi Martinez and Jhon Durán.

If we're gonna do this then at least do it properly. Or else don't do it at all.

Nah, the site is still pretty shit. Even simple things like trying to follow the scores for academy/U23/Womens games are really poorly done and you're better off using social media or other sites.
