I reckon this is our first league game against them for 42 years. It was a draw then as well.

First time I've predicted a defeat. 1-0 Preston, 90th minute.

Grealish to last 60 minutes after sinking 4 pints of Stella and three Southern Comforts on Friday night. Gollini to miss a punch and allow the ball to bounce off Bacuna arse for an o.g. Westwood to injure Jedinak by pointing his eye out. Ayew to hit the side-netting six times, Richards to have a long piss in the dugout. Di Matteo to spend the first half reading his Kindle.
2-0 to Preston.

I watched their game against Wigan last Friday and although they won, it was a poor game and I didn't think much of them.
They did hold SHA to a draw at the sty after that though.
If we can get it together this is the kind of game we should be winning comfortably but granted this is Villa we are talking about.
It's probably going to be another draw, 1-1.

Quote
Callum Robinson admits emotions will run high in Saturday’s match against Villa and says he will always be grateful for his B6 upbringing.

The 21-year-old joined the Deepdale outfit in the summer following successful loan spells.

It brought an end to Robinson’s 13-year association with the claret and blues.

Robinson progressed through the B6 youth ranks and made his Premier League debut in a goalless draw with Southampton in April 2014.

Competition for places meant he struggled to hold down a regular spot in the senior set-up so linked up with the Lancashire side on a permanent basis in the summer.

He’s started the 2016/17 season well and has two Championship goals to his name.

The Northampton born forward will always look back fondly on his time in the second city and is relishing this weekend’s encounter against his former club.

He said: “When I left Villa it was obviously the first game I looked at and it wasn’t too long or too far away on October 1.

“It’s been on my mind obviously but hopefully we can get a result against them and I will be really happy with that.

“I was there from eight-years-old. I have been through a lot of coaches - some are still there and some have left and a lot of players have come and gone during the 13 years I was there.

“I was grateful for the opportunity with the likes of Tony McAndrew and Kevin MacDonald who developed me into a good player and got me into the first team with Aston Villa in the Premier League.

“I am grateful for the help they have given to me.

“They helped develop me into the player I am today and I am learning other things here now too.

“I was there for a long time and it was obviously going to be a big game for me.”

Saturday sees Robinson, along with fellow Bodymoor Heath academy graduate Daniel Johnson, lock horns with Villa for the first time.

It follows the Lilywhites’ 2-2 draw with Birmingham City at St Andrew’s – where Johnson was on target.

And Robinson admits it’s a big day for him and his family and says he’s hopeful of a positive reception from the 5,657 travelling support.

He added: “It’s going to be a bit of an emotional day playing against Villa and my mum and dad have been there from the very start.

“Back then they made the decision to take me from Northampton to Villa three times a week, so it’ll be a big day for them as well.

“I have about 10 to 15 people coming to the match.

“It was mad when I looked at the fixture list and saw Blues and Villa right next to each other.

“With Villa I think they will give me a good applause, because the time I had there and when I was in and around the first team they really wanted me to do well and were by my side.”

They did look genuinely awful against Wigan, barely saw any of the ball, knocked it long into two immobile lumps and got away with it I thought, Wigan being mince themselves.

It's not like us to turn up, impose our will, bag a few goals and go home happy though is it.
Title: Re: Preston North End v Aston Villa Pre-Match Thread
Post by: amfy on September 29, 2016, 06:54:57 PM
They do play a lot of long ball stuff, but they are also capable of moving it quickly through the middle and out to the wings in phases too. ('In phases' is key - they drift in and out of games a bit)  They mixed it up far more against Blues, and more importantly, kept trying to win the game right up to the end of the 5 minutes of injury time.

They do make heavy use of Callum Robinson on the wings, but he seems to pull out of challenges nervously , and is likely to be up against Alan Hutton this weekend - so this might work for us. Their midfield is tenacious and always looking to get a foot in. Daniel Johnson is generally superb for them.

Villa bear, as a local the Guild Ale House is alright, I mentioned it on the away guide.  The beer is pretty good, the decor is a little bit loud, but fair play to the guy for starting it up.  If you want the best real ale head for the The Continental, which is a bit out of town, again see the away guide.

Another ground I've not been to so looking forward to this one. I predicted 1-3 for the Barnsley game so I'm going to predict 1-1 in the hope that it's actually 1-3.

As for pubs, the 12 Tellers and Grey Friars are friendly, cheap and huge
avoid the New Britannia full of Preston pissed up ninjas
And its a good 1/2 hour walk from train station to the ground

from PNEpolice, they suggest The Sumners, limited parking, but 5 min walk to the ground

Cant wait - been waiting for this game for 14 years (albeit hoping it was a cup tie).  Will be a few extra villains in home stand as well.  I'm heading to the 12 tellers for a bit of lunch before hand (with 3 young lads & 3 girls if any other H&V'ers want to say hello)

I have entered a delusional state in which I cannot think about Westwood without seeing the scene from Master and Commander in which the midshipman picks up a cannonball and steps over the side of the ship.  Cut to shot of wind starting to billow the sails.  Sorry.  Can't help it.

Saw this on the away guide, a proper welcome from a local boozer

Well it's been a while since we met in the league, or at all tbh so I'm extending my blue and white hand to any Villa fans in need of a good pint of ale and/or food before Saturday's game.

The Moorbrook on North Road (PR1 1NR) is by far Preston's finest pub and 10-15mins walk from the railway station and the same again to Deepdale (a good halfway point). A taxi from the station will cost you £5 and for those in a car/coach/minibus there is a huge car park to the rear courtesy of a recently closed B&Q at £1 for 12hrs.

With 7 cask pumps and 5 keg taps there is a wide and varied selection of real and craft ales from all over the UK and beyond including a house pale brewed by Blackjack Brewery. For non ale drinkers there is a specially brewed Belgium house pilsner, bottled German pilsners and wheat beers, Thatcher's Cider, Stella 4 and a range of wine and spirits. Think of it as Preston's version of The Craven Arms near New Street.

The current lineup includes ale from Hardknott, Blackjack, Wiper & True, Tiny Rebel, First Chop, Burton Bridge and Windswept breweries.

Food wise the landlord has recently installed a wood fired oven and from there serves homemade pizzas cooked to order before your very eyes. Pizzas are £5 or £7 with a pint of cask/pilsner. There are also crisps, nuts, scratchings and other snacks available from the bar.

If you want to check the place out yourselves go to @themoorbrook on Twitter or The Moorbrook on Facebook.

See you on Saturday.

I can't say we will win with any confidence.  But I'm going with my Mum to the match and last time she came to a Villa match with me we got a battling away win at Palace during the later stages of the Lambert era so a repeat of that would do tomorrow.  Will go 1-2 to us with Kodja and Chester getting ours.  It might be a good sign if we go a goal behind rather than start out leading of course ;)

I don't think it would be right to sack RDM if we don't win.  Its still early for that and having backed him we've got to give him the season to prove himself.  I don't think we are going to be any serious danager of going down, but we do need big improvement.  Fingers crossed that can start here.

Knowing our luck Callum Robinson will equalise four minutes into injury time.
It's not down to luck. It's a mindset now that our players think "fucking he'll last 5 minutes were bound to concede a goal"  while the opposition know it's only villa we will definitely get a goal in the last 5 minutes if we just keep lumping the ball into the box. Robbie & Steve have somehow got to break the mould.

That's superb. No other word for it. It's got me thinking about my last away trip. Leicester in 2006 at the then Walkers Stadium. Sat with my dearest dad in the Leicester end. Agbonlahor won it for us in a 3-2 win....

After the final whistle of possibly ET, my dad told everyone around us I was a Villa fan. Thankfully, nobody was too angry. Cheers dad.

Taking my youngest instead (3) and sitting in the family stand. His mums family are all PNE fans, so he should be happy whoever wins! Hopefully it will click today and I go back to liking RDM. If we don't win he needs his P45 handing to him as he gets on the team coach though, Preston are not very good and we really should be winning his one.
