We need a Ryder Cup thread surely?
Love this tournament. Got a feeling that it's going to be very close and the amount of rookies in the Europe team might just count against them this time but here's hoping.
-
I'm not really a golf fan but I absolutely love the Ryder Cup and the emotion of the occasion. Darren Clarke winning every game 3 months after his wife passed away, medinah and seeing Seve crying his eyes out when he was captain. Can't wait.
-
Great to see McIllroy winning the FedEx. That's Willett, Stenson and Rory (winning the unofficial major the FedEx) that have won majors over there. Has that sort of success happened before in the US prior to a Ryder Cup?
-
Gonna miss the end as will be at the NFL. Shame as I love the Ryder Cup, despite not being much of a golf fanatic.
Anyway, EEEEEUUUUUU-ROPE!

Good point. Although it doesn't always work out that in-form players play well. Two years ago Kaymer had won the US Open and the Players Championship (another one they call the fifth major) and Rory had picked up the PGA and the Open. Neither won a whole point on the Friday or Saturday. Although they both won their singles.
There is something about the intensity of it all that throws form out of the window. I love it.
-
I don't like golf but will be watching this. I love the Ryder Cup.
-
I will struggle to catch it because I refuse to pay for Sky, although I'm staying at a mates over the weekend for the Preston game so can watch some of it there and might pull a late one in the pub on Sunday.
I always see the Ryder Cup as a strike against the more boorish and garish elements of golf that comes from an element of the USA support and players. That bawling and shouting, extreme partisan approach and tribal rivalry that sometimes borders on the unpleasant(although I think it's just fine and dandy in football) has no place in a game like Golf where acting like a gentleman is still considered to be a core part of the game.
In a world of instant results, everything now, no patience sport, the pace of Golf enables the tension to build slowly creeping along to the final result with all the expected twists and turns along the way, similar to a five day Test Match in cricket. Provided it all comes to the boil without any side dominating, it has no equal as far as I am concerned. I can see the USA nicking this but it will be tight and it may be the team spirit of the Europeans that sees them over the line. The States biggest problem may be of their own doing; the presence of Tiger Woods.
And bestest of all? After the year we've had, cheering on a side playing under the European Flag!
Right remainers? *puts thumb up*

One option, Nev, is to pay for a 24 hour pass from Now TV. They cost £7. You could do that for just the Sunday singles. Or a week's pass is £11. I'm just going to do the Sunday and listen to 5Live for the earlier matches.

Only feels like 5 minutes since the last one. I see that we have won 6 of the last 7 Ryder Cups; EUR-ROOOPPPPEEEEE.
Not that worried about golf, but the Ryder Cup is exciting.

Don't you need a box or widget or somesuch?
I'm with Virgin Cable and don't have a terrestrial aerial.

The Yanks have some extra motivation thanks to this (http://news.sky.com/story/british-golfer-danny-willett-sorry-for-brother-petes-rant-at-us-ryder-cup-fans-10597685) tit.

Apparently a teacher...cannot see the LEA being to pleased...

Danny Willett's brother Peter wrote that American golf fans were a "baying mob of imbeciles"
Can't see a lot wrong with that.

No, just the internet. If you have a tablet there's an app. If not just watch on the Now.TV website from your laptop/desktop. Get an HDMI cable and you've got it on your telly box.
Now TV also shows Game of Thrones and many other great shows via Sky Atlantic. Subscription to that channel is £6 per month and well worth every penny. No contract either so just cancel when your chosen show finishes. Obviously they rely on you forgetting to cancel, which is exactly what I've done...

Have TiVo and the Ryder Cup is on Sky Mix, channel 517

The only way to disprove him is to spend the next few days being respectful to both teams and not shouting that imbecilic "get in the hole!" every ten seconds.
I won't hold my breath.

''Mashed Potato!''
-
First Ryder Cup bet
Speith + Reed to win
Kaymer + Garcia to win
Johnson + Kuchar to win
McIlroy + Sullivan to win
-
The American fans continue to show that they don't have any class cheering wildly every time a European golfer misses the cup or hits a wayward shot.
-
Europe not making many putts yet. I've had USA to win 15 1/2 Europe 12 1/2
-
Great shot fromGarcia
-
Pieters Westwood looking a disaster at the moment.
-

Oh please, both sets of fans are guilty of that.
-
The Americans more so, though.
Anyway, not good so far.
-
Struggling to get anything out of this morning now...
-
Not a good morning at all, come on Europe!
-
I'm watching it on mute, screaming imbeciles need to shut their fucking cake holes and hopefully Europe will shut them up.
-
This was always going to be a beating. They are so frenzied about it and all the whhooopping and hollering is a complete farce.
-
American golf fans in general are dickheads. Any prediction on when we have a green invasion?
-
Nice moment, click on the picture entitled "American heckler wins 100 Dollars" on main picture

'get in the water'
Yeah go and throw yourself in you half wit.
-
For those who haven't got Sky I've got Zem Tv on KODI, > Sports > PTV perfect viewing of our comeback.
-
Rory McIlroy. The guy who didn't care for the Ryder Cup. Brilliant.
-
Right back in it now at 5-3
-
Right back in it now at 5-3
Yeah, really good not to fold after what was a dreadful first session.
Need to capitalise tomorrow on the momentum
-
That was the best way possible to silence the imbeciles. Long may it continue.
-
Silence as Rory sunk his eagle putt. Not even some token applause from the chubbies. Get back in ya basements.
-
US golf fans proving Willets brother right I see.
-
Fucking hell, im no big golf fan but i quite like watching the Ryder cup, the crowd however, is making this unwatchable!
What a set of utter bellends!

I've long had a dislike of the minority of American golf fans who feel the need to shout nonsense like "in the hole" after every shot. Unfortunately that minority seems to be quite large at Hazeltine this weekend.
-
Someone mentioned this year they're letting the galleries take alcohol out on the course. And the Yanks have never been known for being able to handle their ale.
I've seen at least 2 occasions of idiots shouting at players as they were standing over putts. Patrick Reed certainly doesn't help the situation.
-
Poor last two holes from Westwood (that name!!) have been very costly. Three point deficit going into the last day is a big gap.
-
Awful from Westwood. Big ask for Europe now.
-
Westwood and Garcia have proved to be costly selections. Very poor performances.
-
Westwood and Kaymer you mean surely ?
-
McIlroy has had to ask for a fan to be ejected for abuse and someone yells at Garcia 'you suck'
Fucking moronic.
-
Thought Reed and Mickelson were excellent, Spieth was rubbish.
Assume we'll put all our best players on first and try to claw back the lead a bit.
-
Rory has been outstanding, really hope he can beat Reed today. It's hypocritical, because I like it when Poulter, etc do it, but Reed's puffed-out-chest, hyper-hyped up celebrations really annoy me. Fantastic player, but massively irritating, especially in combination with Speith and the braying idiot sections of the crowd.
-
What a putt from Rory
-
Stay classy USA
-
Stay classy USA
Too late for that im afraid.
-
Well Willett has had a pretty shit Ryder Cup hasn't he.
-
Not going our way right now
-
Well Willett has had a pretty shit Ryder Cup hasn't he.
He has.
-
Better side won. I know it's the way selection is done, but Europe had too many inexperienced players out there today.
-
Sullivan, Willet, Wood and Fitzpatrick contributed 1 pt. At the end of it there was too much pressure on the ''big hitters'' to gather all the points, the strength in depth was just a little lacking this time.
-
Well Willett has had a pretty shit Ryder Cup hasn't he.
He has.
As bad as Kaymer? He had a shocker.

Now TV was fuckin' useless, the pictures were always lagging the sound so you heard everything before it happened, it improved a bit with restarting every now and again but was all but unwatchable. I went on-line and found that loads of people have had the same problem for a number of years with no obvious fix. I changed browser, re-set the router, re-started the PC countless times but it still didn't work. In my ignorance, I didn't realise it was a Sky product, I thought it was a third party so I've now given money directly to Murdoch for fuck all.
I gave up at around 8.30 and went back to 5Live, which was excellent as ever. As for the Golf, they were just better than us. As has been said, too many rookies but too many missed puts from some very experienced Europeans. The USA made a real effort to re-focus after 2014 and it showed. "Fat Boy" Reed was my hate figure from day one but he played some wonderful Golf and I have no problem with his rabble-rousing, it's all part of the theatre, it's not his or the rest of the US teams fault that so many bozos take it too far.
This Ryder Cup has provided us with some great moments but the Reed/ McIlroy and Mickleson/Garcia matches will live long in the memory, roll on 2018.
-
I enjoy the Ryder Cup win, lose or tie just not quite as much when it's played in america. It seems to be overly aggressive when played over there.

Oh dear. Sorry to hear that. Mine was perfect all night. But I watched it in the app on ipad and not through the website.
-
I'll echo nev's thoughts, they were just better than us. We'll win in Paris...
-
I'm not a golf fan but I do normally watch the ryder cup but this year the fans were so bad for the 10 minutes I caught on Friday that I just couldn't bring myself to watch any more.
-
I just watched it with the sound off
-
The American fans were pretty dreadful. We might enjoy a poor shot from the opposition when it's played in Europe but the personal abuse of the players over there is terrible. Next time it is at The Belfry they should knock out 10,000 tickets to season ticket holders on the Holte. That might replicate the away atmosphere a bit!
"On the first tee, representing Team USA, Patrick Reed".
"Fuck off you fat fucking prick".
-
"Shank it, fat boy"

Or do that clap the opposing goalie thing and when he waves call him a wanker. That use to make me laugh.
'On the tee...Jordan Spieth'
Polite applause, the odd cheer.
Spieth touches his cap and nods to the Belfry gallery.
Someone shouts out 'tosser!' And the rest of the crowd start the Icelandic football clap.
