That's pretty attacking
-
SCORE MORE GOALS
-
Sick of this all out defend type line ups.........
-
That team lacks balance. Therefore a comfortable win for Villa just to show I know nothing.
-
A few square pegs ...
-
Where's Grealish?
-
On the bus to ground and it's humid as fuck.
-
442?
-
No Grealish? Come on Villa win the game please.
-
Not sure how that tem is going to line up really. 4-4-2 with Ayew and McCormack out wide? Thought Kojdia linked up well with Gestede when he came on at the weekend, so don't mind that partnership being given a chance.
-
442?
Based on who's in the team it's virtually 4-2-4.
-
McCormack on the left apparently.
-
midfield still looks light and the balance upfront doesnt look right
-
If we are four up at Half Time we might stand a chance.
-
442?
Based on who's in the team it's virtually 4-2-4.
I think on the pitch it will look more like a 4-2-2-2
-
Given the height up front it strikes me as very silly for Amavi not to be in that team ahead of Cissokho.
-
I'd imagine McCormack left in a 442 or a 4231 with ayew and kodjia wide of McCormack
RDM seems to continually be over confident on players' fitness. I thought adomah and Tish might be fit. It appears grealish isn't either
-
Given the height up front it strikes me as very silly for Amavi not to be in that team ahead of Cissokho.
I think with Amavi being so forward thinking and with 4 forwards on the pitch he's probably going with Cissokho's tiny, tiny advantage in defending ... ish.
-
Presume Jack not fit enough as not on bench even?
-
Had no idea grealish was crocked.
-

I think with Amavi being so forward thinking and with 4 forwards on the pitch he's probably going with Cissokho's tiny, tiny advantage in defending ... ish.
I thought cissokho was our best player for much of the first half on Sunday (no saying much mind) and bailed out jack many a time.
-

You're almost certainly right.
Just seems frustrating that having 13ft of centre forward on the pitch and no bugger to cross it to them is straight out of the Sherwood playbook.
-
Just in case anybody missed the news, Ossie Ardiles took the managerial position earlier today.
-
Fancied this tonight. Not so much anymore. Big man up top with no width was one of our main problems in the first half of last season.
-
RDM seems intent on this attacking style , when the history books all tell us you build from the back.Im hoping for a swashbuckling performance but I do worry about his tactical nowse.
-
I hope we see Green for 20 mins tonight.
-
Just in case anybody missed the news, Ossie Ardiles took the managerial position earlier today.
"Hi Paul, Roberto here. Tell me, what did you do when you absolutely needed to get a win with the Villa?"
"Well I remember this one time we needed to get a couple of goals in the second half against Bradford City..."
-
It relies a good deal on McCormack and Ayew tracking back, doesn't it?
-
To be fair, it makes some sense when you consider how much better we were in the second half than the first on Sunday.
-
Very disappointed Grealish isn't fit. I'm pretty worried by that line up, but what do we know?
-
anyone know if there is radio commentary?
-
4-3
-
Very disappointed Grealish isn't fit. I'm pretty worried by that line up, but what do we know?
We will know what we think we know after 90 minutes, I don't feel overly confident.
-
Crap looking formation, hope I'm wrong and we twat them but I can see us struggling to get a grip on the game. Heart says 2-1 though now.
-
anyone know if there is radio commentary?
5 live
-
I'd say it's stronger defensively than Sunday - Jedinak for Gardner
It could simply be the same formation with kodjia or ayew in grealish's position. Is that really so much less robust? It's physically a lot stronger. I thought grealish was the weakest of our attackers on Sunday anyway.
If it's a proper 424 then I withdraw this!
-
anyone know if there is radio commentary?
5 live extra apparently
-
Come on Villa, get an early goal and slaughter these.
-
That looks rather bold on paper.
-
It's very bold. Jedinak is going to have to do a hell of a job.
-

If McCormack's set pieces are anything to go by then I reckon he could put in a mean cross in open play.

Yes he did, hope it continues.

Likely to be streamed? Probably not I'd imagine with all the Chumps games on.
-
Garry Thompson on 5 live extra, long time since ive heard from him.
-
where is adomah? must have been injured when he signed
bit worrying about tish

I hope we haven't signed a sicknote in Tshibola. He looks a good player but it's frustrating the amount of injuries he picks up.

It's all been the same injury hasn't it?
-
That looks rather bold on paper.
Surely its no more bold than Sunday? In fact I'd say it has more defensive strength with Jedi in.
-

the new Adama Traore.
-
Bizzare team and the bench doesn't look particularly strong.... I hope Rdm knows what he's doing.
-

Yep - Jedi and gestede for Gardner and grealish makes us more physical, experienced etc - provided we use the players in the right way
-

What more can he do with Grealish, Tshibola and Adomah out.
-
Interesting hearing Gestede talk there. He talks like a manager, and possibly a slight critique of RDM re: game management?
-
Right come on Villa.

Sounds like Ayew and Kodjia are wide, Ross up with Gestede.
-
It's weird with Kodjia out wide, but I suppose he has pace.
-
Albrighton scores a Champions League goal ... he'll never know what it's like to score a Championship goal, the mug!
-
Sounds like a good effort.
-
Sounds like we have carried on from Sunday, chances already, open.
-
Brentford sound threatening.

Kod is quick man, just seen the chance with him and Gestede linking up.

Don't forget ssn for a replay of the goals as they go in. :)

I think we'll be lethal away on the break.

Kodjia is going to be a belting player.

Works for me outside the UK. Thanks for that. WM and R5 are usually not available
-
Bonkers line up, really worrying with RDM now. Bradford esque again with no balance at all to the midfield, our left flank is a joke. Gestede did well the last day coming in but you can't just start him as part of four forwards.
2 midfielders neither particularly mobile will have to do the running of the front 6.
Should have been
Gollini, De Laet, Elphick, Chester, Cissokho, Ayew, Jedinak, Westwood, Amavi, Mccormack, Kodija.

Cheers, mate.
-
I think I would rather have a solid midfield with two or even just one on form striker. We haven't really bought for that sort of team though.
-
I'm not a fan of signing big money players then putting them out of position. Kodija looks alright to me, id rather have him in his natural position.
-
How many times is the bloke on Radio WM gonna say 'keeps the ball alive'?
-
We need to get a stronger grip on this.
-
GET IN!!!! We have a player here.
-
What a fucking goal!
-
Kodjia!!!!!!! 1-0 Villa!
-
1-0 to us
-
Kodjia is a serious player.
-
KODJA!!!!!!!!!!
-
What a fucking goal!
-
Goooooooooaaaalllllllllllllll
Now to SSN
What a cracker........
-
Now let's go on now and win the fucking game.
-
GTFI
-
WOW, that was like Bentekes against Man Utd.
-
...and that youtube montage suggested he has no left foot.
-
2nd and 3rd now please.
-
There's the boy
-
Should have been two.
-
Should have been two, we can't miss chances today. We have to win this.
-
got no internet so
GGGOOAALLLLL
well better late than never
-
Come on lets put this fucker to bed, cant keep failing to see teams off
-
Benteke scored one really similar to that, sort of shimmied this way, that way around a defender before bending on into that same corner. Good work Kodjia!
-
Brilliant goal as seen on SSN.

Nelly you are ACE.

Happy mid-Autumn festival everybody

Sloppy there. We need to get one or two more.
-
How are we playing overall - do they look dangerous?

Thank you!
-
How are we playing overall - do they look dangerous?
It doesn't sound like they've had too much by way of chances, but they do sound composed and capable. We seem to be creating chances with some decent sounding play.
-
BBC says we need to lift the tempo, seems familiar.
-
close again there from Rudy
-
Gestede close with a header.
-
Close. Come on Villa we need that bloody second goal.
-
Ooooh, unlucky Rudy. C'mon lads lets go in 2 up.
-
Happy mid-Autumn festival everybody
Happy Birthday baby.
-
Push the tempo Villa, we're sitting off too much and inviting pressure.
-
Good cross from Ross for Rudy to climb and attack ... looked a half a foot wide.
-
Great goal that from Kodjia. Gestede looks real dangerous in this league.
-
Gestede looks very dangerous at home in particular
Away, I think i prefer Kodjia's pace into the channels in that position - as a general rule
-
Sounds like a fairly sustained spell from Brighton there.
-
ffs Villa sort it out
-
Got away with that there. We need to up our tempo, we need to force this game.
-
Sounds like a fairly sustained spell from Brighton there.
really god knows how ;)
-
Elphick and Chester have both made errors there. Wake the fuck up.
-
Let off one or two times at the back. I think if we're going to make a go of it this season then we're doing it Keegan style.
-
http://www.internetradiouk.com/bbc-warwick/ radio link
Cheers chap!!
-
We've switched off and drop off here.
-
We've switched off and drop off here.
Classic Villa. Let's see what comes out the second half.
-
close again by Brentford there
-
Sounds foreboding
need a second as I can't see us holding onto 1-0. Might be a good time for half time for us
-
half time
come on Villa sort it out
-
Sounds foreboding
need a second as I can't see us holding onto 1-0. Might be a good time for half time for us
the longer it goes at 1-0 the more the nerves will creep in.
-
Another let off. That last 10 minutes sounded really poor. They've had enough games like this now, they need to show some fucking killer instinct. I'm expecting much more drive in the second half.
-
Stats suggest this is our closest game so far don't they?
-
Crap defending. Need more goals, we'll concede.
-
Get an extra midfielder on and get a foot on the ball, even if it is Gardner, bring Ayew off and put Ross in behind Gestede and JK.
-
Good team Brentford so I expect them to have opportunities but hoping the pace and power we have up top will see us through with a second and possibly a third.
-
The leaders in the team need to get the rest of the lads organised and pushing 10 yards up the pitch.
-
Ayew needs a goal. I hope he gets on the score sheet tonight.
-
Get an extra midfielder on and get a foot on the ball, even if it is Gardner, bring Ayew off and put Ross in behind Gestede and JK.
Big no to Gary for me.
-
Bar the scoreline it doesn't sound good at all. Does RDM have it in him to make the necessary call and bring Amavi on for one of the four forwards?
-
Really need a good second half performance. There must be a lot of nerves tho given recent events
It's hard to feel confident isn't it? I'm almost resigned to an equaliser already
At least the opposition haven't capitalised on their chances - unlike Sunday
-
On the plus side, we're winning even though we're not playing especially well. On the minus side, we're not playing especially well even though we're winning.
-
Stats suggest this is our closest game so far don't they?

Brentford are a good side, so we really need to up our game or it could be yet another game we fail to win after going in front.
-
Let the de-villa-fication of Villa begin today - come out 2nd half like a train and blast 2 or 3 more goals, with the defence not making any stupid errors and keeping a comfortable clean sheet.
It's not going to happen, is it? Brentford will score within 5mins of the restart. They will push us back for the entire 2nd half and we won't be able to string two passes together and we will lose to a late goal from a defensive howler.
-
Bloody 1-1 written all over this.
-
We really switched off after the goal and the balance of the side looks wrong. Kodjia aside, we've been very ordinary in the final third. Playing Gestede and McCormack together gives us no real pace up front.
-
I do agree we might want to bring Amavi on for one of the forwards
I feel a bit sick, which is really pathetic 😟
-
Get an extra midfielder on and get a foot on the ball, even if it is Gardner, bring Ayew off and put Ross in behind Gestede and JK.
I'd be inclined to replace Gestede for Gardner. Ayew offers more variety than Gestede pulling wide etc.
-
The leaders in the team need to get the rest of the lads organised and pushing 10 yards up the pitch.
Yep we've heard a lot about Elphick, Jedi and McCormack they need to show their leadership quality now.
-
You just know what's going to happen.
-
Right come on Villa win this bloody game, no more failures.
-
Let's stop the doom and gloom around here, we are winning, it hasn't been great, RDM and the players will know that, let's hope for a second half like Sunday without the mistakes!
-
amavi is coming on
-
McCormack off, Amavi on
-
I think we need more in midfield, get a grip of the game. We only need someone like McCormack up front with good supply to him.
-
Amavi on for McCormack, clearly a knock. Hope it's not serious, but hopefully Amavi will get some good crosses in.
-
I think we need more in midfield, get a grip of the game. We only need someone like McCormack up front with good supply to him.
Took a knock
-
amavi is coming on
For whom?
-
I think we need more in midfield, get a grip of the game. We only need someone like McCormack up front with good supply to him.
He's injured, hopefully not serious.
-
So ayew behind gestede still I guess? Could go 442 if he wanted
Amavi cross to gestede - fingers crossed . . .
-
Argh. Well, Amavi might be good for Gestede, I guess!
-
Fucking hell another error from Elphick. Wake the fuck up.
-
Press the bloody ball.
-
Elphick is looking a complete liability based on SSN today. That one wasn't even a tricky ball to deal with hogan is going to put one of these in at some point
This doesn't feel promising to me at all at the moment
-
Sounds like we're sitting too deep. Again.
-
Sitting off and letting them dominate again. Press the fucking ball and push up Villa.
-
Elphick is looking a complete liability based on SSN today. That one wasn't even a tricky ball to deal with hogan is going to put one of these in at some point

Central defence arguably our weakest position atm, which surprises me.
-
Christ almighty are we going to bother trying to win the ball?
-
To date, elphick has been good - but not today it seems
I think Chester has made quite a few mistakes already
-
Brentford sound well on top here.
-
I'm going to go out on a limb and say that I think Elphick has been a bit poor since we bought him. He always looks to have a game changing mistake in him, which I'd hoped we were going to see the last of when we got shut of Clark.
-
The ball seems to die whenever it gets anywhere near to Gestede.
-
Play fucking better Villa, this is really poor at the moment.
-
This is must win game, lose this one and we are far away from the top.
-
That's the problem with gestede - when we're trying to relieve pressure he's no use at all.
Seems a good case to bring on bacuna for him and put kodjia up top
Urgh. We're not going to do this are we?
-
We've been abysmal so far this half.
-
More bloody intensity Villa.
-
To date, elphick has been good - but not today it seems
I think Chester has made quite a few mistakes already
Should give baker a go.
-
They're completely dominating us.
-
We are not learning game on game. That is RDM's fault.
-
If they're gonna score I kinda wish they'd get it done so we can get back on the attack!
-
That's better much more drive from Ayew. That's what we need.
-
We need Kodjia and Ayew up to. Rudy just denied Jedinak a goal I'm sure
-
I feel dirty for suggesting this, but we need someone like Delph to get the ball and push us on from midfield. Ayew does it to be fair but he's a striker. Hm.
-
Panto horse for bacuna please get kod up central. The mids are really really immobile too, lack pace and drive the pair
-
Ayew taking corners? WTF.
-
Positivity!
-
Sounds like our corners are at the usual dismal standard.
-
Delph would be brilliant. Westwood is such a non entity
-
Press Brentford into their own bloody half.
-
Positivity!
I'm really trying. I've had it beaten out of me repeatedly
Sounds like we're getting back into it a touch?
I'd still fetch gestede off I reckon - more pace up top
-
This sustained pressure will only result in one thing. Gestede is far too isolated and the ball just keeps coming back.
-
That's the point I keep making. Put kodjia up top and get it into the channels. Far easier out ball than trying to play into gestede
-
"Villa in Shite Second Half Shock!"
Why does this happen every single fucking game?
-
Fucks sake De Laet injured, yet another injury.
-
Play fucking better Villa and attack.
-
Sounds like DeLaet is done for the evening. On comes Leo Bacuna.
-
Grind it out is the message from Tony Cottee on SSN.
We need to learn to do that, our nerves and negativity stem from our late goal giveaway syndrome.
Come on! Positivity!
-
At least Richards never came on.
Come on Villa, ffs.
-
There's still half an hour to go I think?
Only one sub left to make now too. Dread to say it but I reckon Gardner for gestede could be the one. Would leave us with plenty of pace in a front three still
-
I think were it not for our tactical setup this evening, we probably wouldn't need to grind it out to this extent. We've not helped ourselves here.
-
Bacunas done OK this season, he can be an asset tonight hopefully
-
Don't worry everyone. I had to abandon my trip to the match at the last minute. On the odd occasion that's happened in the last 5/6 years our win percentage is probably chumps league form.
-
Three in midfield would surely help.
-
We need to get our foot on the ball and start dominating.
-
That's better, keep pressing.
-
Need to go 433 get Gestede off for Gardner
-
I feel physically sick.
-
Is Gardner our only midfield option on bench??
-
Three in midfield would surely help.
Keep that up and you'll be offered a very well paid job soon.
-
Please score Villa, just please score Villa.
-
We just need to hold on. Get a midfielder on for gestede, get Kodja up front, and keep the ball.
-
Three in midfield would surely help.
Keep that up and you'll be offered a very well paid job soon.
"It's always been a dream to manage Aston Villa. I promise free tickets to everyone on H&V".
I do like to state the obvious wherever possible.
-
We're far too bloody deep.
-
A midfielder for Gestede is so glaringly obvious it's of Sherwood ignorance
-
Is Gardner our only midfield option on bench??
Green I guess.
-
A midfielder for Gestede is so glaringly obvious it's of Sherwood ignorance
Get him off
-
Gestede is so isolated, we can't sustain this.
-
I would even say bring that twat Richards on and stick him in midfield. No defensive duty other than get stuck in and give it to a Villa player.
-
PUSH UP VILLA.
-
If nothing else, a sub to take the heat out and waste a couple of minutes! RDM poor at game management.
-
close by Kodja
-
Fuckety, so close from Kod
-
Forest 2-1 up
-
We have to sort that fucking midfield out, cant get a grip on things
-
GG to come on
-
The best way to ease the pressure is too push out. We cannot sit so fucking deep.
-
I will be in a dark room for the next 15 mins thinking positive thoughts, see you all on the flip side!
-
GG to come on
Gestede off. Phew!
-
kodjia off
-
Jedinak / Westwood / Gardner = bodies which will help but none have pace.
-
oh rudy off
-
About time.
-
How does it take so long to make such an obvious substitution?! We could have conceded about two goals by now on another day.
-
Rotherham aside why can't we see out a game comfortably? This is agony
-
Bit embarrasing this. Brentford are good yes, but we should be showing more than this.
-
2-2 in forest game.
-
I predicted Villa by 3...this is NOT what I envisioned!
-
5 minutes, nah mate!
-
2-2 in forest game.
Yeah that velios has scored another stunner
-
wyf
-
Fucking sickening.
-
Oh fuck off
-
fuckin ell
-
FFS piss off RDM
-
Inevitable
-
Unbefuckinglieveable.
-
I give in
-
I have no words, only despair.
-
RDM you tit
-
Jesus fucking christ
-
We're going to struggle this year lads. Anyone else think we're due to give someone a hiding?
-
Ridiculous
-
All those top coaches but why cant we stop average teams scoring against us.
-
Again.
-
Fucking unbelievable
-
its not unlucky thou
its shit
-
Wow. WM absolutely ecstatic about that goal. Fuck sake Villa.
-
Is anyone shocked?
-
We will be lucky to finish top half
-
Pathetic. Been sold some dummies at the back.
-
Ridiculous! RdM is entirely at fault for this.
-
I'm not even that disappointed. I'd priced that goal in ages ago
-
Well that's it. We ain't going up. We will be lucky to fcukin stay up at this rate.
-
4 strikers starting. Ridiculous
-
Looking forward to a tweet from tony after this
-
Sorry but RDM got to go. Not good enough with the players he's got against this opposition.
-
first time I have thought we aint going up
-
We could fcukin lose this!
-
We are the ones hanging on. Disgraceful
-
We have gone to absolute shit now.
-
all Brentford still WTF !!!!!
-
Time for a winner (for Brentford)?
-
We need to start playing 433 and stop trying to satisfy so many forwards.
-
Even though we've been under pressure we've still squandered a few chances this half. Our finishing is abysmal.
-
Cannot believe this shit RDM has nothing about him bet he's standing there with his hands folded.
-
Booos at the end?
-
There are no excuses now this is just fcukin poor tactics and poor execution of them.
-
Fuck off di Matteo
-
lots of boo'sssss
-
Have we been cursed by someone? This is crazy. We need to get a serious sports psychologist in for this team or we will be lucky to finish top half.
-
Absolutely fucking disgraceful.
-
One maybe two more of these and players will be taking the piss again and we'll be a busted flush. We're in some deep shit.
-
Not good enough. He has to be given time. But 1 win is pretty pathetic. Different players, but, at the moment, not a lot has changed. Difficult to understand why.
We played so well on Sunday, I, stupidly, thought this was it. We were ready to push on. It seems not.
-
The performance in general was appalling. This club has a hex on it.
-
One maybe two more of these and players will be taking the piss again and we'll be a busted flush. We're in some deep shit.

m6 so bad tonight I had to abandon my trip. I suspect Dr T might be abandoning RDM soon
-
The annoying thing is I don't think we're a bad side now but we're so overloaded up front our midfield just gets overrun the minute the opposition get their act together and you have to blame the manager.
-
We play shit most of the time and when we play well we're unlucky.
-
Manager.
We need a motivator and someone with some tactical nous.
Don't ask me who, I know fuck all, but RDM isn't it.
-
10 points dropped halfway through September.
Absolutely no joy supporting Villa at all. None.
-
We're all so desperate to win games that it's giving us all the jitters. We have to stick together, back the manager and players and ride this out.

I agree. If the fucking Albion thought he was half decent we should have given him a wide berth. We may as well have Sherwood in charge.

I'm generally against pulling the trigger too soon but RDM has zero presence and shows absolutely no evidence that he has a clue about how to put these payers together.

I think those days have long, long gone.
Now, right now, is the time for results.

We do..but we just can't keep playing 4231 with a midfield 2 of gardner and or westwood. Until we start taking these chances he needs to shore the midfield up and start dominating possession...I admire the attacking intent, but when it's not working, have the balls to admit it and change it.

Hi, Brentford fan here.
Hope you don't think I'm being too presumptuous in popping in to give you some advice about coping with life in the Champioship. It's our third year here and we've learnt quite a bit along the way.
Firstly, never underestimate your opponents. The majority of Villa fans are fine but there was a lot of pre-match talk about 'annihilating a pub team' and there are comments here assuming you should be easily beating 'the likes of Brentford'. Show some humility and, like Burnley last year, you still have a good chance of going up. Remain arrogant and the fate of Leeds awaits you.
Secondly, don't assume that because in the summer you spent more than Brentford in their entire history that you're in for an easy ride. We're familiar with Kodija, McCormack and Gestede and we've thrashed Bristol City, Fulham and Blackburn when they've been playing for them. (Mind you, it was a great goal by Kodija). The truth is that you've probably overpaid for these players whereas we, through necessity, pick up underpriced bargains from the lower leagues. Ryan Woods, anyone?
Thirdly, give some credit to the opposition. You may not have previously been able to name any of our players or even locate Brentford on a map but there are some good teams in this league and you will find it difficult to beat them. Perhaps your underperformance last night was due to Brentford not allowing you to play. (And no-one here seems to have mentioned Scott Hogan's wrongly disallowed goal).
Fourthly, less of the patronising 'you raised your game because it's your Cup Final' stuff. Leeds are still coming out with this and they still haven't been able to beat us. Be smart, don't be like Leeds.
That's not to say that Brentford didn't enjoy Villa Park last night. It's a great old-school stadium with history and character. We look forward to welcoming you to our more humble abode next year.
