Sunday 11th September
Kick off: 13:15

Home win 2-0 just hope Jack is fit.
Would Jedinak play if fit having come 1/2 way round the world.
-
Sunday lunch with friends. Bollocks.
Villa win, Forest's defence is like ours last year.
-
Midfield worries me if Jedinak isn't fit but still, fuck the fuckers.
6-1. (McCormack 23, 44, 70, Tshibola 36, Kodjia 74, Adomah 88) (Bendtner 3).

Who'd have thought, two teams who've won the European Cup when it was a proper competition rather than a money league of also-rans, meeting in the second tier of English football. I've always had a soft spot for Forest as I went to my first ever league game there in 1966, quite a good year for football IIRC. Think it will be a good game, albeit kicking off at stupid o'clock, ending in a draw - 2-2
-
Former Champions Of Europe 2 Former Champions Of Europe 1
-
I'll take a boring 1-0 win!
-
I think we are going to give somebody a serious twatting at some point.
But equally I'd take a brace of 1-0 wins in the next two home games.
-
Villa Park once again has the honour of hosting King Nicklas Bendtner...
he will probably tweet.
-
Sunday lunch with friends. Bollocks.
I'd have preferred a roast.
-
4-0. Tshibola, Grealish, McCormack x2.
-
Forest are in a bit of disarray.
Owner seems as popular as Lerner. Fans and players aren't happy at losing their best player and a few apparently wanted out just before the end of the window.
Might be a good to cash in on another side's misfortune for a change.
3-1 Villa.

3-0

2-0.
-
3-2 to us. Kodjia to run riot. Possible hat trick.
I don't know any of their players off the top of my head... so Ian Woan with a screamer and Mark Crossley with a goal kick, headed in by Gollini.
-
Former Champions Of Europe 2 Former Champions Of Europe 1
Yeah, they've won it more than us, no need to rub it in.
-
3-1 home win.
-
I can see goals in this one. Let's go for a 4-1 home win.
-
I think we'll get a clean sheet and have a straight forward 2-0 win.
-
We really do need to win this and get some momentum going.
-
Need a win and I really fancy us. Forest have won their home games but lost away and have let in a lot of goals. Provided either tish or jedi are fit - both ideally - I fancy us to have too much.
Really hope grealish is fit, but it's two from him, ayew and adomah anyway I reckon.
Let's do this!
-
2-1 win....Forest score a few but concede plenty.
-
I've only seen them once at Brighton and they looked desperately poor.
-
Aston Villa 4-1 County of Notts Forest
-
Given my son in law's the Forest equivalent of the most pessimistic Villa fan, family loyalties prevent me making any kind of prediction in case it tempts fate, in whatever direction.
-
I've only seen them once at Brighton and they looked desperately poor.
You say that about all of them! But we still shit our pants and give away a lead no matter how supposedly crap the team we're playing is.
-
3-0
-

Somebody else must have seen the game to confirm. Brighton could have had a lot more than 3.

I have a friend who can fix that fence you sat on and a know a doctor who can remove those splinters from your derriere.
-
Scrappy tight game i think. 1-0 or 0-1.
-
I hope at least one of Tish or the Jedi are playing or it could be tough.
They did looked pretty crap in that Brighton defeat.
We really need to win these two home games to get the season going.
Maybe 1-0 to us.
-
This "looking forward to a game" thing makes a lovely change.
Should win, might lose, might draw even but a team full of new players makes it easier to watch after the recent horrors.
-
Another frustrating afternoon. Usual second-half disintegration. 2-2.
-
4-0
-
We take our chances for once and spank them out of sight. 4 - 0
-
3-0 cruise, Forest are in a bad way these days unfortunately
-
3-0 cruise, Forest are in a bad way these days unfortunately
They've won 3 in a row and are 7th, hardly in disarray, it's going to be a really tough game. Looking for the team to start gelling and fighting and showing some leadership and thinking on the pitch.
-
I really hope we win so I will say 2-0 to us.
-
Don't forget Forest have the added bonus of Gardner not playing for them
-
i think we will win this one
2-0 RM JK
on the up we go
-
I miss this game - bugger as really looking forward to it - cannot even watch on TV live :'(
I think once this team settles and gels we will twat someone - really need back to back wins now to put us up the top half of table
UTV
-
2-1 to Villa. Need 3 points.
-
1st game of the season due to holidays...season starts here, hoping the feel good factor after the transfer window carries on - 2 wins in a week and we are in the mix. 2-0. Kodija / Elphick
-
We take the chances we have been creating in previous games we'll win this comfortably. That's really the critical piece missing in our recent results. We should have been out of sight but instead we fucked up chance after chance and then put pressure on ourself. We need the confidence of a good lead and build momentum from there.
3-0 Villa - Kodjia, Ross, Jack
-
That's the thing for me as well. We should have won all our games so far so like someone said earlier, we'll hopefully give someone a battering at some point.
-
Its a game we ought to be winning.
They may be 7th, but its far too early to care about the table.
They've been poor away from home and the general view is that they're dire at the back, which based on the Brighton game, seems an understatement. Wiganer who went to the Forest game at their place thinks they're mince too.
We've got to put them away, especially being at home. Clampy is right, we could have won all the games we've played and the time for wasteful profligacy has to be behind us. Plenty of attacking options.
We'll have it won inside 45 minutes.
-
We'll have it won inside 45 minutes.
I know it's not what you mean, but I think this has been at the root of our problem. A game lasts 90 minutes, but we seem never to understand that fact. Even if we're 6-nil up by half time, we should run and battle until our lungs and knees explode, or the ref blows for full time, whichever comes first.
-
I don't think they just stop trying at half time!
-
I don't think they just stop trying at half time!
Neither do I, but they lose concentration, organisation, shape, nerve, 'intelligence' and the collective will to grind out the result. We've all seen it a million times.
When you're under the cosh, you have to try twice as hard as when things were going well. I think fitness, both physical and mental, is a problem for us across the whole 90 minutes and has been for a long time. And everybody knows it.
-
Does van Hooijdonk still play for Forest?
-
Another frustrating afternoon. Usual second-half disintegration. 2-2.
So what's the cure?
-
Sunday is when we finally get lift off. Villa 4 Forest 0.
-
Does van Hooijdonk still play for Forest?
Still on strike I think.
-
Does van Hooijdonk still play for Forest?
Still on strike I think.
:D
Everyone pumps Rotherham so we're still yet to beat a team who are even half decent. I think we'll win Sunday, I just hope we can play well for both halves and make it fairly comfortable. 2-0, Draper and Barry.
-
Another frustrating afternoon. Usual second-half disintegration. 2-2.
So what's the cure?
Not sure, but I think it lies somewhere in believing that every single point has to be earned through sheer hard work, even at a 'big' club like the Villa.
-
I assume Bendtner will feature in their selection.
-
Forest fan at work thinks Assombalonga will start and Bendtner will likely be on the bench.

Forest to win 0-1

Ah nothing like giving it the full John Sitton
“You, you little c**t, when I tell you to do something, and you, you f***ing big c**t, when I tell you to do something, do it. And if you come back at me, we’ll have a f***ing right sort-out in here. All right? And you can pair up if you like, and you can f***ing pick someone else to help you, and you can bring your f***ing dinner, ‘cos by the time I’ve finished with you, you’ll f***ing need it"
Still makes me laugh.

I love that clip. I sometimes wish I could take that approach at work rather than 'yes I see your point but i dont fully agree with it"

Despite the last setback I am still firmly back into arrogance mode. Villa will despense with these insolent swine in a complete manner. I expect to be on here crowing about the result and enjoying picking apart which team member was more magnficent after our complete victory.
-
I do feel confident. Interesting to see who gets the nod
Haven't seen any injury updates yet. Is there a presser today? If Jedi and Tish are out I'll feel a lot less confident
Nice to have more options, even with injuries. Reckon our bench could be:
Bunn baker de laet Westwood green adomah gestede

Have you considered a career as a North Korean newsreader?
-
Is Jack fit?
-
I think there's a presser today so well find out about the 5 or so doubts later I guess
Apparently assombalonga is quite a big doubt and bendtner isn't fit

love it

Is Jack fit?
Nice hairstyle and legs but too flat-chested.
-
RDM seems to be keeping his cards very close to his chest about who's fit and who isn't - tho he basically suggested it's 2-3 doubts rather than anyone definitely out
I'd guess that's Jedi, cissokho and jack - with Tish and gestede fit. I think gestede played a bit during the week for Benin
-
In fact looks a bit worse than that - maybe some definitely out plus some tests:
i Matteo refused to talk about individuals but said:"For a few of our players it will be too early."It's nothing serious, though. They are only short-term injuries."
Got a feeling we will see the westy / Gardner combo after all. Bollocks. Maybe something like
Gollini
De laet elphick Chester Amavi
Bacuna westy Gardner ayew
McCormack
Kodjia
That team should still win, but it's a way off our best side
-
Unfortunately a midfield like that is shit and we won't win if that's what we have to field.
-
I'm certainly hoping one or two can prove themselves fit to replace Gardner and bacuna
-
We'll win comfortably...4-1 Albert, Ross and Jonny (2) to do the business. Francis for them.
-
If Trevor Christie is on his game, he'll tear us apart.
-
2 - 0 win. No problem ...
-
Let's hope so.
-
First ever meeting of two European champions outside the top flight, anywhere in Europe, fact fans.
-
Sunday lunch with friends. Bollocks.
Villa win, Forest's defence is like ours last year.
To be fair our defence is like our defence from last season, or at least not far off it...
Forest have started well but losing Burke will be a blow and I don't seem them being any higher than mid-table come the shake up. With it being at Villa Park I think its a game we really need to win even if its only a tight win. Will go 2-1 to Villa with Grealish and Ross to get ours. Expect it to be a little scrappy with both teams looking a bit unbalanced. But think we will edge it and ask questions later.
-
I think we will win, 5+ - nil.
I just do.
-
First ever meeting of two European champions outside the top flight, anywhere in Europe, fact fans.
Anyone know the score the first time we played them after Villa had won it? My guess is we drew.
-

Anyone know the score the first time we played them after Villa had won it? My guess is we drew.
The next time we played them after we won it was strangely enough on September 11th 1982 we won 4-1 with our goals from Mortimer, Withe 2, Cowans.
We beat them at their place too on the 5th February 1983 we won 2-1 both goals from Withe.
-
Unfortunately a midfield like that is shit and we won't win if that's what we have to field.
It's not great but it's the same midfield that played against Wednesday and Derby I think - and I think we should have won both games. Forest aren't as good as either team
-
They're with out Assombalonga and Cohen.
-
4-1 it is then
Fuck the fuckers!
-
3.0 and damn their impudence for turning up.
I reckon this is where we start to look the part. I may well have said this before every game so far mind.
-
They're with out Assombalonga and Cohen.
Which makes it even more of a must win.
-
If Tish and Jedi are out it's a big blow, but with Adomah and Kodjia will massively help Westwood's game. Teams won't be able to push up like they have now that we have pace.
-
I think we'll win and restore the pre-Bristol City optimism. If the new signings can gel and McCormack can find his shooting boots it might be a hell of a game as Forest like to score a goal or two. 3-1 Villa and Elphick and Chester to look a solid duo once again.
-
Assombalonga being out is a boon for elphick and co.
I hope at least a couple of the injured lot can play. Ideally Tish and grealish.
-
More hopeful with Assombalonga out - 3 goals in 3 league games this season, but as important they've sold Burke - 4 goals in 5 league games this season. Just need to make sure we start putting our chances away.
-
They're dire defensively and without Cohen they'll struggle.
-
Scrappy 2-1 win.... But a wins a win right?
-
We really should win this with Assambagbonlahor missing.
-

nice post, thanks for supplying the link.

Nothing but 3 points will be acceptable.
-
Agreed.
-
What attendance we looking at? I think anything over 33,000 would be decent when you factor in Sky, ticket prices (some tickets £36+ for a televised early kick off? Madness) and our start to the season.
-

Glad you said that, agree with you. Hopefully, this will be the start of a nice long winning run...
-
No more excuses now. If we don't start winning now we will fall into a downward spiral from where it my be difficult to get out.
-
If we keep creating chances, we won't go too far wrong. They will start sticking eventually, hopefully tomorrow.

Decent looking at the latest seatplan. Holte should be nearly full with walk-ups; only the North Stand has any great amount of space left.

We simply have to win. This is a must win as much for the points but we need to start some positive momentum.
-
3-1 home win.
-
The team hasn't meshed yet which isn't surprising given the complete rebuild in the summer. When/If it does, we'll be comfortably in the running for the play-offs or more. A villa side with a few consecutive wins under its belt will be a totally different proposition to the current side confidence wise
-
I agree. It's also a case for not chucking everyone in at once - for example we could see four home debuts today but there's a case for a bit more stability. Injuries may dictate that of course
We've basically been in front for almost all of our minutes at home this season. Hope the crowd doesn't get too angsty if that changes today. We should have enough goals in this side to come back at teams provided the mentality is there. The crowd can help or hinder that
-
Confident 4-0 smashing
-
Its time this old lion awoke from its slumber and posted a message of its intent to reclaim the jungle - lets hit them for 6. Forest are the epitome of what can happen when you stay in this division too long, players not quite good enough content with their lot playing for a premier league club at a lower level.
4 wins on the bounce for newcastle we need to step it up.
-
I reckon we will either win very comfortably or lose in the last 5 minutes with a stupid mistake having missed enough chances to win 5 games.
-
http://www.birminghammail.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/jack-grealish-fitness-update-ahead-11870682
Grealish looks like being fit, which is great news
If any one other injured player could be fit I hope it's Tshibola. He's the only one with energy to really get around the pitch (unless Jedinak surprises me) and that's vital given how attacking our line up is.
-
Come on villa we really need this
-
As long as we get the 3 points to kick start a winning run, I'm not too bothered how we get it
-
Win
-
The closer the match the more apprehensive I get.
The quality should be there but I'm still scarred by what I witnessed at Ashton Gate. Just hope we've got more bottle today.
-
I coach a boys team so can't make Sunday games, but I will be getting text alerts during the game. For the past 5 years
my team talk has started by saying "Villa have ruined my Saturday, please don't ruin my Sunday"
Hopefully the new dawn begins today. UTV
-
Just win
-
Just head Forest have not scored away from home this season... always worry about stats like that!
-
Just head Forest have not scored away from home this season... always worry about stats like that!
If ever a team needs to break a bad run of stats, or a striker hasn't scored a goal for ages, you can always bank on the Villa to help you out.
I said we needed to get rid of the old players to bring in new ones who don't think like this and won't let it happen, which we've done. As a fan, I need to stop thinking it as well I think (but it's bloody tough!).
-
It's going to be a big gate today judging by how busy it is around the ground. 2-0 to Villa.
-
Doesn't look like it'll be televised in the states.
-
4-0 to villa, Kodjia with a hattrick.
-
Team:
Gollini, De Laet, Elphick (c), Chester, Cissokho, Gardner, Westwood, Ayew, McCormack, Grealish, Kodija
Subs:
Bunn, Baker, Richards, Bacuna, Gestede, Amavi, Jedinak
-
Gardner, Westwood... must mean Jedinak and Tshibola aren't fit. Balls. Although Jedinak also had a long trip. Why no Adomah at least on the bench?
-
Adomah has an injury tho nothing major I believe.
