I'd like to know too.  You have De Mateo picking the team and the system or systems and Clarke implementing that on the training ground.  Is the TD just there to make sure the manager and assistant do what they are supposed to be doing?

My guess is ensuring that manager has the tools to do his job; aiming to provide pioneering training facilities, a constant supply of quality youth players, a scouting network to fill any gaps.

But is Paddy Riley still here?

Whether he is the right chap is another question but the role would still be required even after this appointment so he might be.

"This role will play a fundamental part in how we drive the football club forward with data and technologies playing a central role in how we not only scout new players but also make the best of the talent we have at Bodymoor Heath both at first-team level and throughout our academy teams."

Just spoke with my mate who works for Villa and he said pretty much the same - will look at the data side of a player's game as opposed to just watching them - involved in making sure the scouts scout what they are supposed to as well...

This is an area where teams like Leicester and Southampton have got things very right in recent times.

It is. And getting it right like them is a specific part of his brief.

Finally it seems we're doing it properly. If only Randy appointed a forward thinking manager and football man to help him from the start. Fingers crossed the Dr keeps with the project and its all a long term plan.
