Look at that bench again.

There's really only one player in the team whom I'm not convinced by, otherwise I read the names and feel pretty good about it.

Nothing against Bristol City but I'd love to see us really, really stuff them - four to the good. That's probably asking a bit much and perhaps the post game write up having the words 'commanding win' also, so I'll just happily settle for a slice of good luck and three valuable away points.

Bunn Baker? Hungry?

Also, no Richards, Lescott, Gabby. The purge is almost complete.

I'm more concerned with TV starting this thread.

We're doomed.

Any sort of win will do for me please

Agree the bench looks very weak attacking wise. Two new signings plus gestede changes that of course, alongside Tshibola

Not many options from the bench other than shore up midfield if it's tight late on. Get Tshibola and Gestede fit, and add a couple more new faces before the transfer window #"slams shut" and we'll look OK.

There has to be doubts over any team that has both Westwood and Bacuna in midfield

Add to that our youngsters are involved in a tournament so they're not available either.

And you'd play Gardner ahead of him?

So am I. I was on here thinking Tuscans or someone other than me or Mr Sox would kick it off. Fuck it, surely our luck is going to change and with it mine on the match thread.

Not the worst team I've ever seen. Shame there's no Tish, and there is an excessive amount of Westwood and Bacuna, but still nice to see de Latte and the Jedi.

No of course not, it's just we keep buying players and he's still in, but it's understandable today.  Hopefully benched when Tish is fit!

Yeah, another dose of reality, with no illicit streams to watch the game on (although one of the streams I've used in the past has got it listed - I'm not holding out much hope though), so looks like audio only on AVTV or WM (on FM)

Jedinak in there is a big boost. Interesting to see how Westwood does next to him.
Maybe I'd swap Amavi for Cissikho but probably our strongest team on paper barring injuries.

Definitely the team id have picked

Can't emphasise strongly enough how important ayew will be today. He needs to run in behind, link well with McCormack and not give the ball away stupidly too often. It's the latter I'm most worked about

"Brilliant play from Westwood to make amends from Jedinak’s stray pass sets Villa on their way. Ayew charges down the right, holds the ball up on the byline as he waits for bodies to arrive into the box. Then with a clever disguised pass, he lashes a cross across the face of goal but Grealish can’t react quick enough to meet it at the back post."

I look forward to that Westwood contribution being written out of history on here later

Jedinak’s lack of mobility in the central area is putting extra emphasis on Ashley Westwood. The former Crewe man is playing in a slightly advanced role to what he’s used to, but is coping well so far.

(From the mail)

I did wonder about his mobility - but I've rarely seen him play tbh

Hope we're not going to regret missing chances again.

A very natural and understandable concern. We absolutely need to win today.

Beautiful sunny day in Perinporth. Older kids and better half surfing, I'm chilling with Betty Stogs and young kids at the beach pub. The sea was scorching, it was like the Med.

I'm a bit worried about Ayew that seems to be the story every single game now.

He'll come around. At least he puts himself in good situations, it's just his finishing touch which isn't awful.

A proper striker/finisher would take a lot of pressure off him.

Yeah I think so too. I'm just surprised as his goals last season included some proper screamers and rabbits out of hats against decent PL opposition so I thought he would be bagging regularly in this league.

Another good half.  We sound and look a very good team now.  Need to take our chances.

Another frustration is referees. For the 3rd game this season we have an player that should be sent off get away with it according to reports. Add that to nailed on pen at Wednesday and their centre halves should have both been sent off that day.

I'm in Penrith at the Wanassee festival and its baking hot! Lying in the Cumbrian countryside and its about 21 and no breeze, polar opposite to the weather reports I'm seeing on here.

Still, back to the footy, sounds like we're doing some good stuff! Come on boys, 3 points today please. H&V is my only source up here.

Great first half. Yes we could be a few more up, but we've controlled the game so well that I'm not worried. These are the kind of games you just need to win, tick off, and move on if you want to win this thing. Come on Villa. If we could add one clinical goalscorer up top, we could walk it. McCormack very impressive!

Big problem I think is these games all have the feel of cup ties at the moment...

And bar the run in 2015 we have shown we're not very good at cup games in last 5 years certainly not in the last 5 years.

Another is we simply can't convert our dominance and go more than 1 up...bar the Rotherham game but they're a relegation contender in this division.

Any other club 2-1 down, you'd think would still have a chance of coming back with 20 minutes to go.

Not ours though, there's a spinelessness baked into this club

I've lost all confidence in this Gollini kid already

Doesn't look like he has any confidence to catch the ball, punching/pushing it away like he does.

Other clubs must notice this and put the ball in to create these situations.

There is. I mentioned on the pre match thread that the mental weakness has drenched the club such that it's seeped into the physical bricks and mortar of the place.

Being from the land that gave us Feng Shui, how long before the Dr decides to bulldoze VP and Bodymore and rebuild them 90 degrees to their current locations.  Despite the total bollocks of the idea, I might even agree with him if he did.

What has happened to Steer, he played every week for Huddersfield last season.

Gollini is hit and miss, does the basics well but just costs goals. That can't continue as we have no chance of promotion if keeper is chucking them in on a regular basis.

That losing mentality that is so engrained in the club is slowly but surely smothering the new players.
We now go into a long break on the back of an embarrassing thrashing.

Fuck knows how this club is going to sort itself out.

It's easy to say when we're losing, but no team is going to do well with passengers in the team like Bacuna and Westwood. We just signed a right back and midfielder, yet those pair still worm their way into the team. I don't understand it.

I fear if Di Matteo doesn't sort it pronto, the fans at Villa Park will start rebelling again.

6 bookings sounds like a complete loss of discipline - this is with a new back 5 (basically) and Jedinak in midfield. Worrying signs.

The squad really needs to have a good sit down and have a fucking good hard look at itself as a whole.

Personally, I won't settle for gutlessness, dropping heads on the pitch. The idea is to play sport until you can barely stand, then you've earnt your beer/reward after the game. As an amateur sportsman myself, I don't stand for guys around me giving up, it shits me to tears and I expect it from paid professionals too.

The new players are setting a good example for bookings, sorry Monty, but the coaches have to be a big part of the problem with the team and their performance plus lack of discipline

So now it's a Bacuna and Westwoods fault?  Two of our better performing players this season.  Some people will never let it go will they?  The sought after purge has happened - there's 11 players on that field, the majority signed by RDM including the much vaunted spine.

This isn't all down to Bacuna and Westwood.  Maybe the team needs more time to gel, maybe the players signed are a bit shit, maybe RDM isn't up to it - we don't know yet.  You've had your purge, give it a fucking rest now on last years players eh?

I'll 'give it a fucking rest' when I feel like these players mentioned improve on their generally crap performances.

It's not necessarily their fault, but they're a massive part of a losing culture engrained in our team. Both need to stop disappearing in games. Theyre weak links and I stick by that. They're not two of our better performing players at all.

Apologies for any offence caused, but you're not going to get much change or friendly debate out of me if you start swearing at me.

The new boss and coach haven't had very long with this lot, and the new players haven't had time to gel yet either. Give them a bloody chance.
