Welcome back boys and girls. New season starts here as does our drive to the Championship title and promotion back to the PL. Come on the Villa!!!

The Canadian beat me to it.
Can a Mod please lock/delete my thread
-
The midfield looks fucking awful
-
That's an attacking line up. Come on Villa!
-
Come on you Villa boys!
-
Gary Gards in the starting line up. Good luck son. Somehow pointy survives yet another managerial change to start again.
-
Yikes that midfield! Come on Villa step up and start to bring some honour back.
As an aside is Okore injured?
Ignore the last question!
-
The midfield looks fucking awful
Upfront looks decent but I second your thoughts to the 3 in the middle.
-
Looks like a 4-4-1-1??
-
Bacuna must have the dirt on every manager Villa appoint
-
Grealish, Amavi and Tshibola on the bench???
-

I reckon Westwood could do a job at this level.
-
Richards on the bench. That surprises me
-
Loving the line-up. :-\

Haha I'm still English Mr Sox. Not a Canadian, just happen to live here.

Yeah looks a very strong forward line up, but they might not get in the game with that midfield
-
That midfield is a bottom half of the table midfield. Nothing in there. Don't understand Gestede with Hutton and Cissokho and no wide players.
Bench looks alright.
-
Bacuna and Westwood in midfield. Didn't think I would see that again. Disappointing
-
Very disappointed to see Bacuna, Gardner and Richards names on the team sheet to be honest
-

He's on the bench, so presumably not.
-
Is Tshibola not up to speed?
-
This isn't the PL so it won't be that our midfield is completely out of its depth. That's not to say that it cannot be improved on because of course it can. The line up is very attacking so hopefully if nothing else we start on the front foot and take it to Wednesday. We get ourselves into trouble when we give up possession. This won't be easy today.
-
Bacuna and Westwood in midfield. Didn't think I would see that again. Disappointing
they will have the game of their lives,
says he hopefully.

True, how long will Gary Gardner get until we say ta-ra mate. Feels like a decade and still haven't seen him do anything ... same for Westwood too.
Bacuna all be it the arse-hole he is does pop up with the odd good cross or shot.
-
Come on Villa let's banish the memory of the last few years.
-
Westwood, Bacuna? This is the best we have? Oh well, up the Villa. Let's go for it!!
-
Bacuna? Jeez.
Will choose Sky over danish tv today.
-
Ah sweet Jesus, I want to be positive but that midfield? Christ, I don't know much about Wednesday's midfield but they won't have to be very good to be better than that. Westwood? FFS.
-
I have driven up to Laroque des Albères, 20 minutes from ours. There is a bar called Café des Artistes which is run by an Irish bloke and has Sky. Given that there is no egg-chasing on today, I thought I was guaranteed first dibs on Sky Sports 1.
Oh no, the place is full of Irish lads watching the feckin' hurling final FFS!
-

Not sure if Gardner has ever played a dozen consecutive games for us to judge him effectively.

Watch Bannan run the show.

I wonder why he hasn't!
-
No sign of the Gabster then?
The midfield is a bit scary but let see how this pans out.
I would like to have seen Tish start but he'll get on at some time I'm sure.
Ayew playing wide I suspect?
Maybe we'll see an new improved Gestede now he's playing alongside a proper striker.
I'm quite optimistic...it feels strange.

Ha! The TV is showing this:

Wat 0-4
12:00
I haven't got a clue what it means. :-D

attack minded line up but fuck me that midfield 3
-
Hmm. A drab(borderline shit) midfield. Westwood and Bacuna? Why? Gardner just isn't very good.
Not happy with that at all. Hutton, Baker, Cissohko, Bacuna, Westwood, Gestede, Gardner. None of them should be anywhere near the squad. Let alone the pitch. Crap.
Grealish should be starting. As should Tshibola. If it all goes wrong, Di Matteo has made a rod for his own back.
Anyway, prove me wrong. My fiance has just urged me to get behind them, bless her. And she's right. So I will.
Come on boys.
-
Important news from France: Fearghal has a second screen and may be able to put the Villa on concomitantly with the Oirish hockey.
-
Hurling semi-final! I have to watch it too :(
Kk is Kilkenny, my home town. The Barcelona of Hurling.
-
Good to be in a real old football ground again.
-
Could be argued the 3 defenders on the bench are a lot better than 3 of those starting so hopefully we will see them soon.
-

Is it a semi-final I'm watching eamonn?
-
And in the sunshine. And with a great away support. ..
Pity the game has to start!
-
Perhaps we should have held on to Sinclair...just come off bench and scored.

I wonder why he hasn't!
I think he'll get the chance this season. I don't think he's going to be the great player we predicted several years ago but he could be more than adequate for this season.
-
Bacuna is in to provide Gestede with a decent crossing service. He will knock it down for McCormack to finish off......I hope!
-
That line up kind of screams, 'Meet the new Villa, same as the old Villa' to me. Early days though, and I just hope we can nick a one-nil, or at least a point.
-

I will have a bit of that.
-
Bacuna is in to provide Gestede with a decent crossing service. He will knock it down for McCormack to finish off......I hope!
And how many times did Bacuna manage to do that last season?
-
I wonder just how we'll line up. 3 in mid, or Westwood and Gardner deep as a two, and Bacuna right, Ayew left, with RM behind RG?
I'd go for the latter myself.
I'm not a huge Westwood fan by any stretch but lets be honest people, he's more than good enough for this division. Granted I'd much rather he was on the bench as back up for a better player on the pitch, but I think he'll do alright. Likewise Gardner looks good at this level. Given Westy didn't show the piss poor attitude of some, and it genuinely seemed to matter to him (the lad was in tears when we finally were confirmed for the drop), I'm clean slating him.
Bacuna on the other hand has a lot to do to win me round, but he's another one. If he hits some form and some consistency, he's okay at this level. He's got enough pace and a fair enough cross that he'll do alright as winger at this level. BUT...like I say. He's got a lot to do to win me round (not as much as Gabby or Richards by any stretch).
I'd have had Bennett ahead of Cissokho, but with a line up this attacking I'd hope we just keep Aly back. There's no point him coming past the half way line too much. Same goes for Hutton.
A mate of mine, who's well versed in the Championship says that a good striker will get you a long way. There are a lot of pish looking midfields. A couple of solid blocks at the back, a scorer up top will see you well. Were we to bring Jedinak in, I think that would go a long way to making us stand above a lot of sides in this division who are fancied for the top half.
Glad to see Ross making his debut today.
-
That line up kind of screams, 'Meet the new Villa, same as the old Villa' to me. Early days though, and I just hope we can nick a one-nil, or at least a point.
To an extent. 3 new players in key areas from last season. I think we'd all like to have seen that dominant midfielder in by now but it's a marathon not a sprint. The season won't be defined on today's result.
-
Bacuna is in to provide Gestede with a decent crossing service. He will knock it down for McCormack to finish off......I hope!
And how many times did Bacuna manage to do that last season?
Exactly. He's the one for me that screams 'garbage'. Attitude, skill, haircut..all atrocious. If he bangs one in from 30 yards, i'll strip naked and run across Tokyo
-

And how many times did Bacuna manage to do that last season?
I think he'll look decent in this division, if he knuckles down and just nail him down and decide once and for all what his position is. He's a decent championship winger in theory. I hope the practice starts today. He and Westwood and the fullbacks I think are playing to stay. I want them fired up because Tony seems intent on bringing in more players.

With a live fugu planted on your knob.

He managed it when Benteke was in the side at times, I think Gestede just takes up poor positions so you don't have the option to hit him to hurt the opposition.

Just win Villa.

True, it's just going to take a little while longer and some positive results before I can see the names of Hutton, Cissokho, Bacuna, Westwood, Gestede, etc. and not get filled by loathing and dread.
-
Ross to score within 2 mins, because the doctor ordered that
-
Meh.
-
I have less of an issue with the midfield than most but those fullbacks upset me greatly, neither offer anything going forward and both have a defensive lapse in them.
-

Getting Amavi fit and a new right back are things we are in desperate need for.
-
Cissokho at left back ahead of Amavi? No room for either Tshibola or Grealish in a midfield comprising Gardner, Bacuna and Westwood? Seriously? And where's Traore? Terrible line up. Just seeing that team selection brings in to stark relief the work that has still to be done to turn us into a competitive team even at this level imho. Jesus.
-
Dean Saunders has just said 'bigger clubs than Villa have sunk to to the bottom of this league'...
Who?
Why do people come out with this kind of nonsense?
Saunders....sigh.
-
Very surprised to see Grealish on bench, thought RDM would have been building the team around him. Amavi may be not 100% fit yet.
Will be interesting to see how our front three get on. Disappointing to have the likes of Hutton, Cissokho, Bacuna and Richards anywhere near a Villa 18.
-
Holloway saying he's been expecting us to get McCormack for the last couple of weeks. And there was me thinking he said Norwich would get him last week. Half arsed manager who used to be famous
-
If anyone needs a stream to watch PM me.

Amavi has only played about 20 mins in preseason after a lengthy lay off and Traore is back in light training.
-

Same here.

yep, I hope Amavi gets 30-35 minutes here and then I'd love to see a similar player come in on the other side. I honestly believe that fullbacks are fundamental to being a good side and we have neglected the positions for years.
-
It's Waterford 0-13 and Kilkenny 0-12 at HT in the hurling.

Yep, its amazing how much of the ball Hutton sees and how little he does with it.
-
Too many strikers and absolutely nobody to give them the ball.
-
I can see Doctor X :)
-
I never comment on first team games but Dean Saunders (who was a great player for us) has really pissed me off. Clubs bigger than Villa have been relegated from this League ???????
-
I can see Doctor X :)
Tweeting?
-
Elphick and Gollini look like brothers.
-
Explaining some chick the offside rule
-
Dean Saunders has just said 'bigger clubs than Villa have sunk to to the bottom of this league'...
Who?
Why do people come out with this kind of nonsense?
Saunders....sigh.
Brainfart and a half from Deano there.
-
The sky presenter is having a few digs at Holloway, fair play.
-
Feck me, could this tannoy be any louder?
-
McMessi v McCafu, this is why the game is on TV
-
Who's the lady with Tony? Cracker.
-
Not very fond of the line up. That's all. Get some goals.
-
I've just had a quick thought for those who died in the the Leppings Lane stand.
-
I noticed that all the teams use that strange format of shirt numbers.
-
Who's the lady with Tony? Cracker.
I would definitely have a chat and a cup of tea with her.
-
Come on you Villa boys!!!!!
-
Did Elphick do his prematch thing?
-
Glad to see Green on the bench too. Hope he gets some game time today.
-
Band wankers.
-
That band is doing my head in, couldn't listen to that shit all season.
-
I've just had a quick thought for those who died in the the Leppings Lane stand.
I stopped by the memorial earlier
-
6 TVs in pub all showing the shitty pre-season friendly at Wembley.
Fuckers.
-
That band is doing my head in, couldn't listen to that shit all season.
Add to that, the tannoy was the loudest I've heard at a game.
Mind you, my ears are still a bit sensitive after last nights Anthroprophh gig
-
The ref is hench
-
6 TVs in pub all showing the shitty pre-season friendly at Wembley.
Fuckers.
what did you expect? - it is Money United after all!!!....
-
I think we should give the 'empty seats' chant a miss. Remember what Villa Park will look like this season
-

Fuckers.
My lad went home after trying 4 different pubs, he does live in Bury though, he's moaning like a fuck
gonna have to watch it on Sky-go on his tablet
-
We're on the Isle of Arran and what few pubs there are, it's BT Sports and the Charity Shield for them.
Why on earth are they not watching Championship football?
-
Result! The Villa game is on here in the Café des Artistes!
A perfect venue for watching Gestede, Bacuna and Westwood! Allez les Artistes!
-
STOP THE DRUM.
-
I think we should give the 'empty seats' chant a miss. Remember what Villa Park will look like this season
Quite - I seem to remember the odd one or two at VP last season.
-
On the back foot here
-
Forgot about the band wankers.
-
Looking a bit light in midfield here
-
Gardener wil be booked before long
-
Up against it here in the early exchanges. To be expected I suppose but we need to settle this down quickly.
-
Looking a bit light in midfield here
Who would have guessed eh?
-
So far, it looks exactly like last season. Zero pace, poor shape, shit passing, panicky defending.
-
Can't get hold of the ball. It's what happens when you have 3 nothing players in midfield
-
RDM largely went with experience in midfield but Westwood and Bacuna are experienced shite
-
We don't have a 'footballer' in midfield.
No one who can create time and space for themselves.
-
Ayew should have done an earlier pass there to Ross. Could have been through.
-
Can't get hold of the ball. It's what happens when you have 3 nothing players in midfield
Westwood and Gardner seem to have no ability to get the ball and go forward. MF getting chewed up.
-
Westwood is a whispered recollection of a footballer.
-
Jordan Ayew in full flight is lovely to watch.
-
I can't help but think I've seen this near total lack of midfield presence somewhere before.
-
Result! The Villa game is on here in the Café des Artistes!
A perfect venue for watching Gestede, Bacuna and Westwood! Allez les Artistes!
Estrella €5.40 a pint.
Guinness €6.50 a pint.
Wine 17cl €2
-
I'm fuming as well. Was at casino in Broad Street...one one set of TV's they are showing the cricket, why, who gives a shit and, on the other lot the pre season friendly at Wembley. For God's sake we are in Birmingham!!!
-
This is every bit Bournemouth away from last season in the early stages. Let's hope it ends in a similar fashion.
-
What exactly do W & B have on AVFC?
-
Can't get hold of the ball. It's what happens when you have 3 nothing players in midfield
Westwood and Gardner seem to have no ability to get the ball and go forward. MF getting chewed up.
They're annoyingly slow and ponderous. We better get a bloody decent midfielder in during the next 3 weeks because I can't spend another 10 months watching fucking Bacuna and Westwood and Gardener just doesn't have it.
-
Not great at the moment. Midfield is doing nothing.
-
I can't help but think I've seen this near total lack of midfield presence somewhere before.
Very anonymous so far. Bacuna especially MIA
-
Anyone wanting The Owls to enjoy total freedom on the wings to cross the ball must be loving this.
-
I wasn't planning on drinking today, but i'm going to have to to watch this shit
-
Ah Jordan, it had to go to Ross then mate
-
Westwood is a whispered recollection of a footballer.
I was more mobile than him eighteen months ago when I couldn't walk! The word recollection suggests he was once good which I beg to differ.
I don't like it when SKY tell me Fletcher has never scored in something like 13 appearances against the Villa. I reckon he will now get a hat trick.
-
Apart from Ayew, we've been crap so far.
-
Was McCormack held back there?
-
Ayew looks head and shoulders above everyone.
I can't see us keeping hold of him.
-
I can't help but think I've seen this near total lack of midfield presence somewhere before.
Very anonymous so far. Bacuna especially MIA
against a squad with Bannan in the midfield.
-
We still waiting for bacuna to have that first good game in midfield then?
-
Every bit as poor as I imagined so far. The good Dr and Di Matteo need to get a move on. The midfield in particular is an appalling collection of players you sign when you're skint and plodding along. The fullbacks are lazy and make no effort to block crosses and in Rudy we have the perfect lampost impression, again.
-
It feels like years since we had a shot on goal
-
Bloody hell that looks really nasty
-
Load of blood there
-

Zut alors!
-
Just a scratch
-
Fucking fletcher
-
Ouch
-
Elphick down being fucking brave. Bleeding badly
-
I'd already settle on a 0-0 draw watching this so far. Really do need someone creative in midfield and a pacey striker
-
Midfield really needs some presence.
-
I can't help but think I've seen this near total lack of midfield presence somewhere before.
Even an Italian can't build Rome in a day.
-

I reckon there was an idea of a conception of an inkling of a footballer somewhere in Westwood when he was about 11 years old, before he drifted into something less than nothingness. I've seen wisps of belly button lint with more purpose.
-
Gu looks worried
-
Fletcher looks to have got the worse of it
-
For all Ayew's undoubted skill, boy does he pick the wrong option too often.
-
I can't help but think I've seen this near total lack of midfield presence somewhere before.
Even an Italian can't build Rome in a day.
He could start by not picking Westwood I suppose.
-
Not much happening so far by the looks of it. If we're not careful we will be holding on a bit in this one. Midfield very underwelming I agree.
-
Fletcher going off would be bad for us
-
Look at the state of that tie, that has made me laugh out loud. Brilliant .
-
Shows the need to get some bite in the middle. Getting bullied a bit
-
Look at the state of that tie, that has made me laugh out loud. Brilliant .
His way of dressing always makes me smile/cringe :)
-
We need some variety going forward. Nothing wide at all for Gestede so why play him at all. Need the uniqueness of Jack in the second half and a bit of grit from the Tish.
Fletcher off
-
Darren Anderton and downing would strengthen this midfield
-
I hope Elphick is okay to carry on. He's been the one who has impressed me thus far. The quality from both sides so far has been a bit poor though. Not finishing top 6, bare minimum would be a travesty.
-
Bacuna offering no help to Hutton. Gardener looks off the pace already.
-
Glad I dropped in here to get the real Villa line-up. Sky's Website have us playing a surprising new signing at #1 Alberto Grassi. WTF
Glad to learn that it is actually Pierluigi
-
You can definitely see the team chemistry with Sheff Wed.
-

Grealish would at least give us someone to hold onto the ball. I don't think we can play Ayew, RM and RG at once. I'd push Ayew into the middle and take Rudy off if we're not going to give him crosses.
-
Midfield is the problem.
Midfield is the problem.
MIDFIELD IS THE FUCKING PROBLEM !!!!!!!
-
Tish for Bacuna sounds like a fairly appealing substitution.
-
How we playing boys? Sunning myself in a beer garden in Brean.....
-
Tish for Gestede would be my call
-
Cissokho, bloody hell
-
An attempt on goal!
-
Good to see the ref booking for a cynical foul.
And a shot!!
-
An effort on target!!!
-
The excitement of a shot.
How low have we sunk etc....
-
I haven't heard Westwood's name yet
-
Tshibola on for Westwood, Grealish for Gestede, stick Ayew up front would be my call.
-
Starting to get a bit of a foothold.
-
ffs Hutton
-
In terms of the battle of woman next to the chairman, we're definitely winning that battle. Hands down. Our best signing of the summer?
-
For being tall enough to play in the NBA, Gestede wins very few flick ons
-
"Anywhere" showing the game today?
-

Cor!
-
I've only watched 5 mins but we've looked OK
Shut Hutton cross there of course
Ayew a cut above so far
-
In terms of the battle of woman next to the chairman, we're definitely winning that battle. Hands down. Our best signing of the summer?
She is by far a better accessory than either his shoes or his tie.
-
Westwood has surely not had a single name mention thus far
-
Giving the ball away is shit in the Championship as it is in the PL
-
I know it will take time but we're as dull to watch as ever.
-
"Anywhere" showing the game today?
I've heard it's being shown in the darkest depths of Hell because they've been naughty down there this week.

Yes! I absolutely would. You need to get yourself to Shanghai, mate. You'll be surrounded.
-
For being tall enough to play in the NBA, Gestede wins very few flick ons
That's his problem - big lad but wins hardly any aerial duels
-
Tshibola on for Westwood, Grealish for Gestede, stick Ayew up front would be my call.
This with Amavi for Cissokho
-
Gestede doesn't win many long balls does he?
-
Westwood has surely not had a single name mention thus far
I could come up with a few names but you would probably ban me from H&V. And whilst I'm having a moan surely Sheffield Wednesday, who I respect and think are arguably the biggest 'sleeping giant' in English football should play in blue and white stripes as opposed to the kit they are wearing today.
Rants over. It did me good. I feel calmer now.
Just realised they are technically playing in blue and white stripes but fellow fans of 1980's Panini sticker albums will know what I meant. BIG STRIPES.
-
Both our full backs are the worst i have ever seen
no positional sense
offer nothing going forward
cannot tackle or track
wtf do they do?
-
If this is what the championship is like, we need more big meat heads
-
I would Ayew playing upfront straight away. He played the first 8-9 games there last season and was anonymous. Didn't produce until he was played as a forward.
-
Both our full backs are the worst i have ever seen
no positional sense

cannot tackle or track
wtf do they do?
They run. And that's it.
-
Cissokho is so very, very limited.
-
Didn't they give Stan a squadnumber? Sick, Old and Fat he would still be an improvement on any midfielder we play....
-
Fuck off that's not a yellow
-
Sadly it still looks like if we concede, we won't be able to get back into the match.
-
Here we go. Coming under to half time is it?
-
A foul for sure, but a yellow for that?
-
Does the wall only need to be 7 yards now??
-
Inside the last five minutes of a half and a shit free kick given away
-
Fletcher's got a 2 inch gash apparently
-
Thank god this wont be the line up by the end of the month.
-
A foul for sure, but a yellow for that?
Not for me
-
If this is what the championship is like, we need more big meat heads
Baker could be worth sticking with based on that. Needs someone other than Cissokho next to him. There passing is like they are offloading a bomb to each other!!
-
The basics are a struggle with this lot.
-
Running through the midfield too easily.
-
Jack hunt!
He said Jack hunt.
Phnarr, Phnarr
-
dirty cheating cock smoker
-
The basics are a struggle with this lot.
Ned to fuck off the shit from last season before their negative affects rub off on the new players.
-
Dirty twat
-
Cheating wanker.
-
In terms of the battle of woman next to the chairman, we're definitely winning that battle. Hands down. Our best signing of the summer?
She is by far a better accessory than either his shoes or his tie.
Is he wearing his waistcoat? It gets the babes.
-
Gardner has played a few of those floated balls to nobody
Gestede not holding it up at all. He's really next to useless outside the box. I'd rather have ayew up there.
-
I'd take off Gestede and Gardner for Jack and Tishbola.
-
I would try something radical, like playing with a midfield second half.
-
So far this looks like a re run of a lot of our matches from last season. Just don't look as if we are going to trouble their defence anytime soon.
-
Ayew is in full on moping about like a spoilt kid mode.
-
This is every bit as painful as last season.
-
Gardner has been absolutely dreadful.
-
If we're not putting crosses in it's really not worth playing Gestede as he has absolutely nothing else to offer.
-
Ayew is in full on moping about like a spoilt kid mode.
We're moaning about Ayew now?
-
Gardner not good enough. Slow and clumpsy
-
It's all looking very Villa isn't it?
-
Well that..... was fucking dreadful
-
All three in midfield have been absolute pony! I hope 2 of these 3 bids are for midfielders who want to grab the game by the scruff and control the thing.
-
Gardner needs to come off
-
The players need to take confidence in that they haven't conceded. Wednesday were always going to start brightly.
-
Gardner not good enough. Slow and clumpsy
Midfield is a joke. Need energy in there.
-
Poor overall, only positive is Ayew when he runs at them and that despite us being poor, they've hardly had an effort of note.
-
Gardner, Westwood, Gestede, Cissokho, Bacuna off.
-
Thank fuck for that! Dying to break the seal.
-
Well if this were against premier league opposition i doubt we'd still be level.
-
Gardner. Fucking useless. What a blatant foul. Embarrassing.
It's quite clear our full backs have been targeted by Wednesday. And rightly so. Theyre shit. Westwood is the worst player I've seen in a Villa shirt.
Ayew looks good, McCormack clever, and Elphick and Gollini solid.
The rest-well, we know all about them. Theyre playing to form.
0-0 is ok.
-
Gardner, Westwood, Gestede, Cissokho, Bacuna off.
That would leave us with 9....
-
A carthorse would be quicker than Gardner!
-
Unless we play with orthodox wingers there's no point playing Gestede at all. And relying on our full-backs to provide the width leaves us open to the counter attack - as we saw against 'Boro last week. I'd take him off, bring Jack on, and push Ayew further forward with McCormack.
-
Gardner really hasn't got the legs has he?
Pretty much all the problems we expected so not sure what I'd do. But I think I'd fetch gestede off and put ayew up top. Tshibola into midfield. Then McCormack and bacuna get 15 mins or so, before getting grealish and green on to exploit the space
-
It's all looking very Villa isn't it?
Yes. When we have the ball, the pitch looks small and all players are marked. When they have the ball, the pitch suddenly becomes bigger and players have space.
-
Gardner. Fucking useless. What a blatant foul. Embarrassing.

0-0 is ok.
Solid enough, but totally ineffective in the middle
-
Refused entry due to medication. Treated like scum. Don't drink but told that I was too drunk. How can I be drunk if I don't drink?
-
Only Ayew looks comfortable with a football at his feet which is somewhat disconcerting given we're a professional football club.
-
We need to move the ball quicker when in possession as they've been closing us down fairly quickly. Unfortunately I don't think we have the players capable of doing it.
-
Gardner has been absolutely dreadful.
I've literally just repeated what you've said Paulwinch. Bright hope my arse. He's worse than his hobbit of a brother.
-
Gardner needs to come off
Can we all just say after 8-9 years that Gardner isn't ever going to make it here and actually his fucking brother was the better one after all. I don't care for how close he was born to Villa Park and how many posters of Tony Daley he had on his wall ... I just want to see good players.
-
Gardner has been poor but at least he's done enough to get noticed. Westwood and Bacuna have contributed absolutely nothing.
This was for me the worst thing about us last season, effectively not having a midfield. I can't believe any of the management team think this is a sensible set up.
-
Level away to a settled side who are one of the promotion favourites. No great dramas at the back. Elphick actually talking to the defence. More signings to come. Players who can change things on the bench. I will take that.
-
I hadn't realised Bacuna was playing until he was fouled.
-
Not too bad given that the midfield have contributed absolutely nothing.
-
Gardner has been absolutely dreadful.
He hasn't got it has he?
-

Bacuna created our only chance.
-
Refused entry due to medication. Treated like scum. Don't drink but told that I was too drunk. How can I be drunk if I don't drink?
Anyway that you can prove to the club (wednesday) that it's medication? Unacceptable to be treated like that.
-

And there was me thinking he had posters of Tom Daley on his wall.
-
I do think grealish and green could do some damage here
I've reinforced my view that we need a proper 'on the shoulder' no 9
-
Nothing is going to change for the better whilst Cissokho, Hutton, Bacuna, and Westwood are being selected. Make the bids a reality Dr. T this week.
-
Refused entry due to being drunk. Don't drink due to medication to help withr PTSD. No compromise at all from the old bill, " It's the stewards' decision" kept my ticket.
-
It's a good job Wednesday have been pretty ordinary themselves. A decent team would have been a couple up by now. The amount of times they've just easily found space between the defence and midfield (snigger!) has been shocking.
Ayew has looked a class above anyone on the pitch in the couple of moments he's been involved. Cannot be sold under any circumstances
-
Not Gardner's best 45 minutes but as mentioned above, at least he's trying to make something happen. The Invisible Man would have been more effective than Westwood.
-
I get the feeling that were this the Premier League, Gardner could have been booked about 5 times. He really has looked woeful today, almost to the point I can't fathom just what Forest fans saw in him. Is there another Gardner we don't know about? Have we confused him with someone else?
Poor game. For me we look unbalanced. Ayew is clearly our best player but in that position he's not getting enough time and space and in addition he's not doing enough defensively, so ultimately we're weaker for having him there. Get Gestede or McCormack (Ross has looked clever and has worked hard but he's not going to last the 90 today...too soon) and put Ayew through the middle.
Get Tish on for Gardner and give us some beef and legs in midfield.
As for Cissokho, he must be the most ungainly looking player in the history of football. He looks like a daddy long legs trying to evade a rolled up newspaper, having already taking three solid hits. He looks utterly bewildered by the ball whenever it's anywhere near him.
Bennett isn't brilliant but he's done okay at this level and is at least good with the ball.
-
Refused entry due to being drunk. Don't drink due to medication to help withr PTSD. No compromise at all from the old bill, " It's the stewards' decision" kept my ticket.
Try to get a photo of the steward.
-
Its the first game of the season so may be RDM has just set us up to not concede and keep it tight (giving him the benefit of the doubt).
We could get something out of this game if he brings on Grealish, Green and Tish for Westwood/Gardner, Bacuna and Gestede, and push Ayew up top with McCormack.
-
Westwood isn't good enough for the Premier League, and he isn't good enough for this level either.
-
Absolutely nothing in midfield. Ayew has been the only one to show anything but as an out and out attacker he just runs with it until he gives it away. Never been a midfield player in his life. We badly need to sign at least 2 quality players in this area if we are going to seriously compete in the Division.
-
Both gardner and baker have experience at this level which is why i think he picked them. But it's clear we need to buy.
-
I think we all know that any football team that has had any form of success has been made up for midfielders with at least one string to their bow. A playmaker, a protector of the back four, an intelligent creative player, a rapid fucker.
We haven't had any of that probably since Milner, Barry, Pertov and Young. No we get El- Ahmadi, Makoun, Holman, Sylla and Tonev replacing them ... replacing them, Westwood, Gardner and Bacuna....COME ON, why can't anyone in charge see they're shite, someone tell me?
-
The only league Westwood is good enough for is the one he came from. Which begs the question why a succession of managers seem to make him first name on the team sheet. He definitely knows where the bodies are buried.
-
Sheffield Wed 0 Aston Villa Shite.
Early days though etc.
-

Cant make my mind up wth Ayew. Great ability, but often loses ball or picks wrong pass.
-
37% possession, 1 shot (1 on goal), no corners.. what?!
Deja vu.
-
Start closing down Villa and midfield fucking do something.
-
no bloody changes
-
Both gardner and baker have experience at this level which is why i think he picked them. But it's clear we need to buy.
Experience for experience sake is pretty pointless though.
-

If we played him up top, off the shoulder of the last man he'd have the pace to beat wednesday. At the moment he gets the ball and has no options but to run himself. He is frustrating at times, but also he's got the sort of ability that will make him stand out at this level. Got to keep him.
-
Our defence is awful.
-
no bloody changes
Exasperating isn't it?
Good save keeper.
-

Baker is the sort of player who will do well at this level. For me he's fine and he's played quite well today.
Gardner...erm...Unless he gets a few set pieces to take or pelts a long ranger, he's not offering much and he's too slow in that holding position.
-
We are shit ..i cant believe he picked this team .If tbis is our best we are screwed
-
How Bacuna can stay on after that 1st half performance is beyond me, absolute shite player and a waste of a shirt!!!!
-
Why is Hutton always in the area on the field where the right centre back should be thus leaving a bloody great area for them to use down their left flank?
-
We are shit ..i cant believe he picked this team .If tbis is our best we are screwed
It's not our best though. There's at least 4-5 of these won't be playing as much in the future because of others coming in or simply playing themselves out of contention.
-
Gardner, Westwood, Gestede, Cissokho, Bacuna off.
I say this every game so mcgrath knows why they keep getting picked by every manager
-
Fucking rubbish
-
We done kicked it a bit.
-
Fucking gestede on his toes YET AGAIN
shit diagonal again. Poor passing. Shape isn't really working at all for me. I'd rather have ayew central. He's just disappearing down a dead end too much
Gardner has really disappointed me with his passing
-
We are so pedestrian. Even that spell just now, we looked like we were having a kick around on the beach
-
Hutton turning his back ffs!!
-
Seeing Amavi, Green, Grealish and Tish sat on the bench is painful when Cissokho, Bacuna, Westwood and Gestede have contributed absolutely fuck all in the first half.
-
Even that little bit of pressure resulted in 2 or 3 crap crosses and then fizzled out to nothing.
-
I still think full back is the biggest problem. They're targeting us down the flanks and we're doing nothing to worry them out wide ourselves. Grealish and Amavi on for Hutton and Cissokho and drop Bacuna back to right back. Won't make us any weaker really but might give us some crosses and pin their fullbacks a bit deeper. Would also add some creativity in the middle.
-
Way it's going it's just a matter of time until they score.
-
I honestly never want to see Westwood or Bacuna in a Villa shirt ever again.
-
should be off
-
That's a red card all day.
-
Make the changes for fucks sake RDM.
-
That should have been a second yellow/red card
-
How is that not a second yellow?
-
Yes, we look cumbersome at full back, weak and talentless in centre mid and there is no real link up with the forwards. Ayews ability is there for all to see but he's isolated. Baker has played worse but has still scared the shit out of me on occasion. On the plus side Gollini and Elphick show a lot of promise.
-
Hutchinson should be off, definite yellow.
-
Better
-
That's a definite second yellow
-
Good ball in by Bacuna!
-
Coming into this now.
-
been a bit better the last 5 minutes
-
Pointy bastard
-
Should have scored. Westwood *sigh*
-
Another good ball in by Bacuna.
-
Fucking wanker Westwood.....normal service resumed.
-
Huttons crossing ... :)
-
And Hutchison, who should be off, stops McCormack scoring.
-
Pointy should have put that away
-
Come on Villa.
Westwood shoots wide. Should be 1-0 up.
-
gestede a donkey
gardner pants
westwood and bacuna being their usual selves
no changes at half time
slow and ponerous
disjointed
it it a mcleish, lambert, sherwood, garde or black side?
-
WESTWOOD CAN'T KICK A FUCKING FOOTBALL.
-
Noticeable the fullbacks are getting forward
-
Looking better second half.
-
Should have got that on target. Great chance
-
we are on top here
-
RDM angry at Westwood's shot - exactly like many he put away as a player.
-
bacuna has a head like an orange there
-
I like this ref. Seems to like us.
-
Better . . .
-
Just fuck off Westwood
-
Baker is shit.
-
In a PL match we would be behind already. Hanging in there for a point or more the only hope.
-
My son, who's not really all that aware of a lot of what went on last season just screamed 'what you laughing at' at Bacuna after seeing him smiling after missing that header. Well, you have to laugh!
-
In a PL match we would be behind already. Hanging in there for a point or more the only hope.
We've been on top the last 10 minutes
-
Ayew & McCormack keep the ball alive & the moves going, which barely happened last season.
-
Close
-
McCormack on corners all season please.
-
Looks like we've finally found someone who can take a set piece.
-
This thing isn't going to fix itself in one game. We need to believe in ourselves again. And certain players simply aren't good enough and will be replaced in time.
-
A corner that's not floaty. I must be hallucinating.
-
I'm really missing Westwood's floaty corners
-
I quite like mccormack's corners
-
Bacuna did well there. Again!
-
Ayew with some excellent hold up play there.
-
I'd get Grealish on here while we have them rattled.
-
if only westwood could hit a ball on target
-
Fuck off Floatly Pointwood
-
Why can't that ****** shoot straight
-
Decent attempt by Westwood tbf
-
How the fuck is Arsenal v Man City live on ITV 1?
Good centre back pairing for City :o
-
good save goalie
-
That Westwood effort was more forgive able . Great technique
-
That was a good effort by Westwood, hardly the easiest ball to hit.
-
"And wide from Westwood." Commentator says again, wearily.
-
Westwood can point but were he able to shoot we would be 0-2 up.
-
Look at the size if that fucker
-
I was just about to say with this pressure we're vulnerable on the break
Baker diving in again there
-
First game of the season and it's the same old Villa. All three new signings look decent though, not sure when we were last able to say that. Cling on to the positives!
-
Look at the size if that fucker
Looks like a bouncer
-
amavi on
-
You can't criticise Westwood for that second effort!!
-
This has been much better in the second half but then again the bar wasn't exactly set high.
-
Poor finish after good work. Had to pull it back there.
-
Tish time
-
Tshibola on
Gardner off?
-
Poor challenge by Bacuna.
-
I have a familiar aching feeling that we're going to throw this away.
-
oh no its tish ;) same haircuts
-
Sorry Gary but you are no better than thought.
-
I have a familiar aching feeling that we're going to throw this away.
This could go either way. Wednesday fans are probably saying the same thing
-
On a big positive, in the league, it's fortress Villa Park so far this season!!!!
-
Superb Thomas
-
I do think we look a bit more vulnerable as the game opens up
Gardner off. Surprised if he starts next time
-
Great by Elphick
-
I have a familiar aching feeling that we're going to throw this away.
This could go either way. Wednesday fans are probably saying the same thing
It's a Pavlovian response.
-
Elphick has been worth every penny and will prove way beyond that as the season goes on
-
I have a familiar aching feeling that we're going to throw this away.
This could go either way. Wednesday fans are probably saying the same thing
It's a Pavlovian response.
Haha absolutely.
-
I know I'm asking for it here but defensively we've looked alright
-
Ayew, for all his good work, is very lazy with his layoffs and passes.
-
sssssshhhhhhhhhhh
-
I know I'm asking for it here but defensively we've looked alright
That's a good comment when the players on the coach on the way home. Not before
-
I know I'm asking for it here but defensively we've looked alright
Been a bit last ditch though hasn't it.
-
Nuhiu looks like a low level Soprano family enforcer
-
Elphick looks positive and fairly vocal, which is making a difference. We still don't create enough though.
-
thought that was it
-
Elphick has been excellent hasn't he?
Ayew erratic
Bacuna better second half
Gestede pretty anonymous
Baker still looks like he's got a Rick in him
Hutton still can't cross
Westwood better this half (I know you won't agree)
-
Thought Ross was in then
-
I have a familiar aching feeling that we're going to throw this away.
This could go either way. Wednesday fans are probably saying the same thing
It's a Pavlovian response.
Yes please.

-
Should have scored
-
Elphick is making more noise than our fans.
-
It's not a pass by Westwood it's a hope.
-
Love Elphick's reaction
-

Great. Bring it on for Westwood.
-
Lovin Elphicks passion
-
Great to see Elphick urging the fans on.
-
Is Ross McCormack the first player we've had with a footballing brain for at least 4 seasons?
-
It been much more encouraging second half
-
Love Elphick's reaction
But was it as emphatic as O'Leary to Doug or TSM1 after a superb draw?
-
RM off for JG.
-
good tackle tish
-
Tishbola looks impressive so far.
-
Elphick has been excellent hasn't he?
Ayew erratic
Bacuna better second half
Gestede pretty anonymous
Baker still looks like he's got a Rick in him
Hutton still can't cross
Westwood better this half (I know you won't agree)
There have been at least 3 today that could have been punished by goals and probably would have at PL level..
-
RM off for JG.
John Gregory's on?
-
Is it Tishbola, or Tshibola? I think it's Tshibola. So why are they calling him Tishbola?
-
Green for Bacuna for the last 10 minutes please RDM.
-
Is it Tishbola, or Tshibola? I think it's Tshibola. So why are they calling him Tishbola?
Tish is probably a nickname or something. It's pronounced Shibola
-
Green for Bacuna for the last 10 minutes please RDM.
Yes please
-
Should have been a pen and red card
-
That Hutchinson is a very lucky boy.
-
Green for Bacuna for the last 10 minutes please RDM.
Green on before Bacuna red.
-
Should have been a pen and red card
That's what it looked like from here
-
What does Hutchinson need to do to get his 2nd yellow?
-
Is it Tishbola, or Tshibola? I think it's Tshibola. So why are they calling him Tishbola?
Tish is probably a nickname or something. It's pronounced Shibola
That's what I thought. So why is the idiot commentator saying Tishbola?
-
Very lucky boy!
I know grealish has a lot to learn. But it's great that we can just play a ball into him and it generally sticks
-
how they didnt put that away ffs
defender just got in
-
Should have been a pen and red card
Definite. Absolute piss take from the ref.
-
Always the final ball
-
I thought that was going to be in
Definitely better second half
-
Looking at the match stats etc on the OS. Why on earth are they saying that a player coming on is 'in' and a player going off is 'out'?
-
Like Paulie I fully expect a kick in the balls very soon, but we will be fine if we can build on this second half performance. Amavi for Cissokho, Tish for Pointy, another midfielder for Gards, another forward in for Rudy, a better CB than Baker. Time left in the window to do it
-
Gollini looks pretty good- football brain
-
Classic Villa.
-
ffs cock up again
-
brill
-
Bollocks!
-
Typical Villa
-
Guzan-esque
-
Fuck off
-
Fucking Guzan mk 2
-
Fuck. Thought we'd hang on for a point. Terrible by Gollini
-
Fuck sake.
-
Fuck. Shit. Bolx.
-
Fucking terrible.
-
Gollini looks pretty good- football brain
yep
-
And there it is.
-
Dire.
-
Tony is going to be fucking fuming
-
Some things just don't change, do they?
Totally in control then that.
-
Gollini looks pretty good- football brain
You were saying Edvard.....
-
And there we go just like last season same old rubbish.
-
Same as it ever was.
Poor goalkeeper kick, defensive fuck up.
Guess what comes next.
-
Fuck i wanted to say not going to jinx.....
-
That penalty even more important now, linesman. Villa always make at least one defensive howler.
-
here we go again!,
-
same old, same old, same old..
-
Gollini looks pretty good- football brain
You were saying Edvard.....
Your fault Edvard
-
And NOW he takes Bacuna off.
-
It's not come through on my stream her so looking fwd to this . .
To be fair not as bad a fuck up as I'd imagined
But a bad kick nonetheless
We have looked lackadaisical from these short goal kicks
-
Just a typically shocking goal for Villa to concede.
-
Same as usual.... wank.
-
Just like last season. In control of ball and play into trouble
-
And NOW he takes Bacuna off.
Just when he was going to show his quality
-
Shoot you bunch of twats!
-
Tony just turned his thumb down. You are out Roberto
-
It's been a decent second half perfomance so that's a real fucker
Green looks good
-
I am going to 'beat the traffic'.
-
Predictable. We don't create anything like enough, we don't score, so every defensive mistake is a disaster. We desperately need more pace in this side.
-
Unlucky goalie. Has played well, aswell.
-
Really sick of having time on this earth ruined by this absolute shower of shit.
-
We looked pretty decent in the second and then concede a shocker.
-
Fuck's sake Cissokho
-
Oh just fuck off with shit like that Aly.
-
I hate Cissohko.
-
There'll be some revisionism after this game
Decent second half
But mistakes and failing to make it count at either end
-
Oh just fuck off with shit like that Aly.
If ever a player stole a living as a footballer...
-
The sooner Amavi comes in for cissokho the better tho
-
Annoyed
-
get amavi in the next game ffs
-
We don't react to setbacks well though, do we? Where's the laying seige to their goal? Fucking show some grit, Villa.
-
I hate Cissohko.
So do I. Dreadful player. The sooner he's gone along with Bacuna and especially Westwood, the better.
-
We are shit ..i cant believe he picked this team .If tbis is our best we are screwed
It's not our best though. There's at least 4-5 of these won't be playing as much in the future because of others coming in or simply playing themselves out of contention.
The point i was making is he thinks its the best he had yo choise from. That worries me in regards to the manager
-
Yeah that's a blow. A solid 0-0 at their place would have given us a solid platform to build on. Am surprised that he didn't start Grealish myself.
-
Di Matteo out!
-
Tony is hopefully planning to spend a lot of money now.

That's the thing, the squad is still way too weak. My heart sank when I saw Westwood and co names in the team today.
-
We need a right back, 2 midfielders and a striker to replace the likes of Hutton, Bacuna, Westwood, Gardner and Gestede.
-
Pathetic. We shouldn't have lost that. But we did. Same old shit!

Dreadful player. It's like his legs are being controlled by a 12 year from Robot Wars.
-

Yep, hopefully. This squad will not get us promoted. Not by a long shot.
-
I'm trying to be positive after a decent improvement in the 2nd half, but I'm beyond fuming
-
Bleuuurrrrgh.
-
Cissokho is utterly garbage. How he made it as a professional footballer is beyond me. And the mind boggles at what clubs have paid for him over the years.
-
Poor first half. Did enough second half to get a point. They should have been down to ten men but at the end of the day you can't legislate for goalkeeping howlers. Disappointing
-
Midfield, Midfield, Midfield, buy a midfield or we're going nowhere.
-
Same old fucking shite, ultimately.
-
Predictable. We don't create anything like enough, we don't score, so every defensive mistake is a disaster. We desperately need more pace in this side.
As per last season we dont have anyone, other than Ayew in the starting 11 who can beat a man consistently
-
all the ills of last season cannot be solved overnight. There was some promising moments, Elphick , looks great, there will be more signings!...... keep the faith!
-
I thought Bacuna did ok.
-
Beat ourselves again,things/personel need to change,3/4 new players needed,i'm sure we all know who NOT to play.
After getting into the game proper, gutted, but not totally surprised.
