Title: The pitch
Post by: Tony Erdington on July 30, 2016, 05:54:09 PM
I was there today, and the pitch has lost weight, its all of 6 metres shorter and 2 metres thinner. can the brains trust on here explain, What's the Reason??

It's so we'll have less pitch to be shit on this season. Eventually the pitch will be 5 metres by 2.

Dunno, but it looked in poor condition.
Returffed patches, and never seen it so poor at this time of year.

It happens at clubs, different managers like to have larger, smaller pitches to suit the style of football they're aiming for. You're allowed to change dimensions within a certain amount.

I feared this might be the case as soon as PSG pinched our main groundsman.

It was due to be relaid but postponed due to cost cutting.

They made some of the groundsmen redundant. That can't have helped.

And usually the manager makes the pitch smaller if he is planning on playing Pulis style hoofball. :(

RDM has no history at all of wanting to play anything resembling long ball let alone football that would be related to the junk Pulis puts out.

Sacrilege! The pitch has been the same size every season in my supporting history. I demand the restoration of original size!

The fact that they had to keep watering it today says something.  Quite obviously the club are not satisfied with it.  Players were slipping at the start of the match.

football's a recreational activity. If Pulis' Albion does it for you they're only a couple of miles away. You should enjoy your Saturday's by supporting them. I'll stick with the project that is Aston Villa and gamble on being happier at the end of the season than any of the Albion fans will after another season of Pulis head tennis.

Gabby's made a diet quotas agreement with the groundsman.  It works on the same principle as carbon quotas and trading.

You pay someone else to do the hard yards for you.  Apparently Gabby has reported to Bodymoor claiming to have lost 12 square metres of turf over the summer.

Don't believe all the negative hype  about the Pullis way.  Its a million times more enlightened than the likes of Mick McCarthy, Jack Charlton etc.

Or do I have to believe in a deranged fashion that we play better football than every other team in the country to carry on supporting Villa? Your argument makes no sense...

It doesn't matter how big the pitch is, football is pretty much the same as it's always been.....get the skilful people up the pitch, give it them in dangerous areas, and expect them to make things happen.

None of this collecting it on the half way line bollocks and casually spraying a 5yd pass

I seem to recall the Permier League wanting to standardize pitch sizes, is that also the case in the Championship?
Title: Re: The pitch
Post by: CJ on July 31, 2016, 05:15:00 PM
I think the standardisation of pitch sizes to 105 x 68 metres only applied to the PL, so I guess we'll go back to the FA regulations, which is anywhere between 90-120 metres long x anywhere between 45-90 metres wide. If the pitch has been made smaller I would think it's to match the average Championship sized pitch so we play on a similar sized pitches home and away.  On yesterday's second half showing a slightly smaller pitch is the least of our worries.

Maybe the idea was to wet the pitch so that it increased our ability to control the ball, play our new passing game and possibly prevent the pitch from breaking up underfoot as there is a long season ahead.

To be fair, we have been getting battered by the elite teams on our pitch for years and the large expanse is probably a contributing factor. With the way things are, it may be a good time to implement a fundamental change

Traore has a 'distance covered' clause in his contract. The reduced pitch size is so that he can cover enough ground to trigger it.

There is but at premier league and ours was always above the minimum which I never really understood given how rubbish we are at home.

Been suggesting narrowing the pitch for years but surprised we've done it on relegation as surely we'll win some more home games regardless this season.
