Title: Greene King announced as Official Ale Partner

A pity we couldn't have got a local brewery on board. Or failing that, something drinkable.

Can I be the first to say How Low This Once Great Club Has Fallen?

But seriously, Greene King?  FFS.

Dishwater is preferable to Green King, should have got sponsored by Fairy.

I'm based down in London and know of quite a few really good young breweries here Brixton, Weird Beard, Gipsy Hill, Crate, Beavertown etc

I know of some of the older Brum breweries, but who is new on the scene making good stuff?

I grew up on it and quite like the stuff to be honest.

It has to be kept correctly though or else it's like drinking rancid arse water.

I'd rather have 4 pints of these, than 6 of Greene King for the same price. Tbf though I get a pretty healthy discount.

Wasps and Coventry have Purity the lucky gits.

Very good set up there, I didn't wait more than a few minutes to be served a good pint, even with 40 odd thousand there.

I can't say I'm exited by the GK link up, I'd rather drink lager than their stuff.

Whilst I agree with sentiments over taste, Greene King are sizeable players in the real ale / craft UK industry and would have had far more to play with than some of the afore mentioned brands and more local micro breweries.

Having switched to Heineken from Carlsberg-Tetleys it is clear where The club has gone in terms of this area of the business.

The only winners are mainstream cider drinkers who will now have strongbow over Somersby.

I'm not sure what you mean, have they not just switched one giant sponsor for another?

Greene King have spent years taking over other breweries (closing some down) and continue to brew and sell the beers that they think will do well.
Agree, their IPA is a bit crap but they do some other beers that are ok.
Whether we see them or not is another matter.
I'd rather we had gone for a local brewery but that's business.

Indeed they have, but they have cut many of hospitality bonuses we used to get with Carlsberg. They have tightened up somewhat.

For those of you for whom beer is important.   Greene King have indeed bought up swathes of East Anglian breweries.  The Bartons is owned by an East Anglian (sort of) Rutland brewery.  If GK have got them in the cross wires so long Bishops Farewell before a game.

Burton ale came to brum during an Ansell's strike. No one would touch Ansell's after. Brew11(m&b) didn't fare much better. Greene king Abbot Ale is dangerous after two or three. Aah student days when the grant went further. Championship sponsorship is hard come by. I suspect GK must by eyeing the Midlands market. Tractorboy drink.

I quite like the Westow in CP they tend to have a good range of brews also Beer Rebellion is pretty good. You get beers for good  prices if you drink at Gipsy Hill brewery, they're a nice bunch too.

I can't think of many big breweries that I like the beer from enough to be really chuffed if they were running the show for Villa. Youngs and Fullers are ok, but very London centric.

Whatever it is, it won't be well-kept so they may as well ruin Greene King IPA as anything decent. It'd be nice to have a local brewer on board but realistically, GK are the only independent brewery big enough to pay the sort of money wer're after. The only alternative would possibly be Marston's, and they're not going to alienate their yammish heartland by linking up wih da Villu.

I did hear from someone in the know there that they did offer the £40,000 requested but it did not offer exclusivity of the brand.  Marstons these days couldn't give two hoots for yam loyalty as they have it anyway.

Given the way we sank last season the obvious choice for a sponsor would have been "Titanic Brewery" from Burslem (Stoke on Trent) since their beers do slip down a treat.

The Titanic Plum Porter is a far more romantically nourishing beer than the Greene King IPA, the latter really is a very uninspiring beer (rather like last years performances).
