Dear Tickets for Schools Ambassador,
We would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your participation in the Tickets for Schools scheme during the 2015/2016 season. We really appreciate the efforts at the school to fully embrace the scheme and sincerely hope that you have found the scheme to be beneficial.
It is with regret that we announce due to EFL restrictions on ticket offers we will be unable to offer Tickets for Schools for the forthcoming season.
We will keep the details of your school on file, and I will write to you again during the first half of the season to inform you of any alternatives we are able to offer.
I would also like to offer your pupils half price off our JV Life membership. Anyone who has taken part in Tickets for Schools can get a special rate of £9.95 (rrp £19.95) for a 12 month membership. Some benefits of being a member would include a welcome pack with exclusive gift, the chance to become a mascot, birthday & Christmas card, quarterly digital magazines and much more! This discount can be claimed by calling the ticket office on 0333 323 1874 and quoting the code ‘JVLT4S’.
Should there have been any changes in your contact details or if there is a change of Ticket for Schools ambassador at the school, please contact our Tickets for School coordinator by calling 0333 323 1874 or by email ticketsforschools@avfc.co.uk .
Yours Sincerely

What restrictions from the EFL are those then? Does anyone know?
-
I would think that is an overhang from last seasons regime rather than an impact of the new one.
-
I don't know for sure but I think there's a limit to the number of games where clubs can discount tickets.
-
Disaster. You'll be telling me Skye no more, next.
-
I imagine the NSPCC stepped in after the last few years.

i don't, but i know leyton orient give free/discounted tickets to local schools and they're in the EFL as well....

;D

It's been a bad week for me, this was an ace quip and brought a smile back to my face. Cheers Paulie

Brilliant.

very good paulie.

I blame the European Union. This won't happen once brexit is complete.
-
That really is a 'shoot yourself in the foot' decision.
-
That really is a 'shoot yourself in the foot' decision.
By the EFL you mean?
-
I took advantage of this last season, and was planning to more this season as my boy is just starting to come round to football.
Never mind, I'm sure there's a good reason. After all, we can't have ordinary people paying a fair price when a billionaire owner could be losing profit. It's unethical.
-
Something doesn't add up here as my kids school have been told by Villa that they're not doing it anymore whereas Small Heath still are.

Do you mean Small Heath School or Small Heath Alliance FC?
Mr amfy says PNE do tickets for school for all their home games too.
-
SHA FC. They're still doing offers next season.
-
Weird isn't it?
If they want to stop doing tickets for schools, I think that it's pretty shortsighted of them.
.....but even more shortsighted to make up a reason which everyone can obviously see isn't true.
Neither PNE or Small Heath appear to be operating under any EFL restrictions on giving away tickets to children, so why would AVFC be?
Bizarre.
-
You'll probably find that the person who ran the scheme got their P45 so it's been parked. That of course is me wildly speculating.
-
Do Preston and the other lot do it for all games?
-

e
Mike says they do it for all home games.
-
Do Preston and the other lot do it for all games?
Yes, I believe so.
-
I seriously doubt we'd say something that wasn't true like that
-
Two things here - again a potential own goal in more than one way by the Villa (the story they have put out and to the fact that the ticket opportunity has stopped).
However as a partial counter balance comparing Aston Villa Football Club to the likes of PNE and SHA is like comparing Rudi to Andy Gray or Guzan to Jimmy Rimmer. The other two clubs need initiatives, Villa obviously think we have a fan base big enough to cover gates of over 20,000 no matter who the opposition are.
-
Any idea as to whether we will still be involved with Acorns. I'm all for global domination but hope that we don't just ignore our doorstep...
-
All very strange.
-
I suppose it's just another cutback on the back of relegation. They've looked at money saving opportunities and sadly it's been picked out.
-
It's nothing to do with relegation, or cut backs, or anything else within the club's control. The Football League have a regulation that clubs can't do a junior tickets promotion more than four times a season; any more than that and they would have to offer the same concession to away fans, which is clearly impractical.
Villa staff explained the scheme to the league, told them how long it had been running and how popular it was, but to no avail. If anyone can explain how other clubs can seemingly get away with similar ideas, I'm sure they would love to know.
-
OK - so a 'tickets for schools' idea doesn't work because the practicalities of offering the same deal to way fans don't work out.
A generic kids concession however, could replace it. Those are the things that run at other clubs.
At PNE - kids under 8 get in free for every game. I have no idea whether that also applies to away fans, but it would encourage more adult away fans to travel if they can take their kids free. PNE feel this is worthwhile because it brings through the next generation of supporters. There are always loads of young kids on the Town End. They all hang around down the front together, trying to meet the Deepdale Duck.
This will also happen because they know they don't fill their ground, but we aren't going to either - we've closed down a whole tier and still don't expect to sell the rest. We might have some games where we think we can sell out, or sell out the whole away end, but maybe for some of the games where it'll be less full we could offer free or very cheap tickets to kids, and do the same for the way support.
Kids bring a paying adult with them, and nag them to buy them chips, coke and burgers. They bring in money one way or another.

As I said above, we can do it for four matches a season. The whole 'let them in for nothing' idea is often mooted but whether it would work at Villa is another matter. Someone down there (I forget who) told me some time ago that they gave wodges of tickets away to local schools at one point and the kids either didn't turn up or else ran around the place causing problems because they'd had them for nothing so they weren't particuarly bothered about watching the match.

agreed. 2 mentors with 30+ kids in their man u and Chelsea shirts does not improve finances much as they all bring a packed lunch and rather than embrace and enhance the watching experience they become a pain in the arse up and out of the seats every 5 minutes. It a world away from a father with a couple of kids
-
I think free or very cheap tickets for children is a good idea. It not only brings new fans through, it enables parents who are otherwise priced out to attend.
For example - as a parent with a couple of kids, you might be able to find £30 for your own ticket, but add another £30-£40 to take your 2 kids with you and it becomes unaffordable. If you price the kids at under £5 for example - then it stays affordable for the parent too. Then 3 people bring £50 into the club including their chips and cola, and the family carry on being active supporters as the kids grow up to hopefully be active Villa fans too.
it doesn't have to be every game. Once people have a 'Villa habit' they'll find the money on the weeks that we can mostly at full price for more attractive fixtures with bigger away followings. Once they lose the Villa habit, they've gone.
-
Over here for the Super Rugby they do a 'take a kid to footy' deal and a number of tickets are priced so an Adult can basically take a kid along to a game for next to nothing. so if a ticket is normally $25 taking a kid may be $27 (two seats) plus the kid gets a footy pack, including drink and some merchandise.
As you can imagine it sells very well.

Several years ago a colleague of mine used to take groups of our pupils to Wolves' games...at a minimal cost. I told him to try The Villa because of the tickets for schools thing...he did and was overjoyed at what the club were offering and has accordingly taken them to The Villa ever since (works well as a disciplinary sanction!!!).
The simple fact that Villa in the EPL did a better deal than Wolves in the EFL supports what the club are saying.
I still reckon they could sort out something else though - like PNE - loads of clubs in many sports do all sorts of deals.

"We have been working on plans to give free entry to kids registered with membership next season."
