Title: Jordan Ayew speaks
Post by: trevor fisher on July 03, 2016, 12:34:18 PM
Last week Jordan Ayew told a TV station in his native Ghana he is prepared to stay at Villa. Actual words are worth noting as I hope he means them He said to GHone TV

"I'm in no rush to leave Aston Villa. I am happy to be there though we were relegated. I am happy at Villa and I don't want to rush. THey need me and I want to help them to qualify back to the PRemier League. I was with the team in the PRemiership and I will play with them in the Championship".

Let us hope he is not the new Fabian Delph. He would be a major asset and showing loyalty to his five year contract would be very welcome indeed.

'Happy to stay' always means 'unless a better offer comes in'. Still, the indication that he's not pressuring to leave, which is encouraging.

Hope it's true because he's probably the only signing from last summer I'd want to keep. He'd tear up the Championship if he stays.

Words are cheap. Footballers, politicians, whatever.

After FD, I don't trust any of them. I hope he stays, as SH says, he'd be brilliant for us in the Championship.

But don't tell me if Southampton, Everton, West Ham etc come in with big money offers to play in the Prem that he won't be off like a shot.

Or maybe he will break the mould and the l word (loyalty) means more to him than greed let's hope we are talking about him in years to come as a true villa legend

If he stays, I'd like us to play Ayew through the centre.  Carries a genuine goal threat that should decimate the Championship.

Holding onto this sort of player and building the team around him next season is cruical.  I have no reason to believe or disbelieve him at this stage.  I don't have context to his remark.

Ayew wearing number 10 in training, might not mean much, was 19 last season. Could he be a number 10? Play behind one or two strikers? Petrov back to number 19?
Title: Re: Jordan Ayew speaks
Post by: cheltenhamlion on July 04, 2016, 06:27:33 PM
Petrov will definitely be 19. We had interest in Ayew on January so I wouldn't be surprised if he went. Looking at some of the figures being thrown around you may well find a stupid bid later in the window of around £20m. If that happens he is gone.

You wouldn't want to keep Amavi and Gana?

I don't get the Amavi hype.

Started 11, Lost 8
Subs 1, Lost 1
Unused 2

I haven't seen anything noteworthy before his injury to be losing sleep over, if he goes or not.

Gana is 50/50, but if Ayew leaves...  :'(

You could use similar stats to beat Ayew with.
Title: Re: Jordan Ayew speaks

Let's be fair you could batter every single player on the stats from last season.

I disagree. I saw plenty in all three to think that if they were coached and mentored properly they could be really excellent players. Gana should be in his prime this year, Sadly I think he will leave thoough. I would hope Amavi and Ayew will be here next year

That demonstrates that stats don't necessarily prove anything.

Jordan Ayew’s agent has offered his client to Galatasaray with the forward desperate to leave Aston Villa this summer, according to a report.

The former Lorient striker, who can also play on either wing, provided seven goals in his first season in England, but could not stop Villa from slipping into the Championship.

Turkish outlet Fotospor now claim Ayew wants out of Villa because the 24-year-old has no desire to play in the second tier of English football.

It is reported that the striker has told his agent to look for another club and that Galatasaray has been informed the player is happy to move to Turkey.

Galatasaray are believed to be unwilling to match the £9million Villa paid for Ayew, but could be interested in a loan deal.

The end of this month will mark a year since Villa forked out £9million on Ayew who is just 12 months into the four-year deal he signed last July.

Ayew went on to be Villa’s top scorer in the 2015-16 season and returned to training with the first-team this week.

Villa begin their Championship campaign against Sheffield Wednesday on August 7 hoping their stay in the second division will be a short one.

I quite like that idea.

I prefer the 'kick the living shite' out each of them with last seasons stats....a bit more cathartic.

"I'm in no rush to leave Aston Villa. I am happy to be there though we were relegated. I am happy at Villa and I don't want to rush.

I've got mixed feelings about him, he showed his class a few times last season, but we also saw the other side of him.

My main thought is, perhaps if these kind of players truly recognized what an honour is to both play professional football (a team game) and also to play for Aston Villa, (although sometimes I feel they think it's the other way round) I may be a bit more positive towards them.

I don't think Ayew is one who can be labelled with not caring really. He had a couple of petulant moments, but he was one of the few who seemed genuinely bothered by our plight.

He was at least directly quoted in the other piece but after snake boy I would not trust any of them  - especially any of their agents

Yep, there are 4 or 5 articles doing the rounds that all slightly change or miss out the so called quotes. But I think it's more or less a certainty that the one or two talents we do have won't be wearing the shirt come September.

A few years back the Championship was the 5th biggest league in the world based on attendances and I would not be surprised by TV deals too (Prem/spain/Italy/Germany/Championship/France).  I doubt this has changed significantly.

I'm unsure what the attraction is of say Turkey when the Championship is arguably bigger/better/more cash anyway.

The only possible reason really is Champions League. A couple of the clubs probably offer very big wages too. That said Racism is still an issue in certain regions there and I'd be very wary of playing in Turkey if I was a black player. Mind you 80k a week would probably make you bite your tongue and endure it I suppose.

the latest report does indeed say that Ayew has been offered to Galatasary by his agent. After the report I quoted to start this, Ayew then said his future would be decided by God. So maybe he will be playing for the angels. Possibly not Aston Villa. But Okore now seems to be saying he will stay.

Until tomorrow at least

A couple of comments from that article:

I will urge ghanaian footballers not to go to that country called Turkey. They are not good pple. I'm working with them here in Ghana and can tell u, they are not good. The players should not think about the money involved, a word to a wise...

Don't go there you haven't fully develop your talent, wait till you fully mature in EPL or Ligue 1.Turkish league is sub-standard.

I don't think our results should reflect on him as a player....lets' face it our defence was that poor that any forward could do little about losing games.
I think we would do well to replace him like for like quality wise in this division...I hope he stays.

You are right Phil.  Agents have a vested interest in not allowing their clients to be loyal to clubs and it inevitably leads to long term loss of status, performance and post football financial stability and security of the actual players.

I like Ayew, he's got some talent and he's honest if he says he's happy to stay I believe him but I don't expect it. He is one of the few players we have that are Premier League standard so would imagine there might be a few interested clubs. If someone wanted to take him on a season loan especially if they are in European competition this would be the best solution, he will continue to develop as a player much better than getting lumps kicked out of him against Blues and co - we can recall him next summer when we're back in the Prem. Amavi is in the same boat except that he's coming back from injury which makes me think he'll be with us until at least January.

With the likes of Ayew and Amavi we have to be realistic enough to be prepared that they won't spend a full season with us.

They might be OK with staying if needs be (which is better than Gana and Richards who were getting their agents on the case back in March) but if concrete bids come in for either, that naturally changes the picture.

They are plenty good enough to play in the top flight in England, back home or other leagues across Europe.

But if Ayew is even with us until the end of the transfer window in September, his performances and goals could be vital in giving us a head start in the Championship. We need to make every advantage count and having a player of that calibre -even of it is only for 4- games down there, will be an advantage.
