Just found this one page on Youtube, a pretty comprehensive record of goals shown on ITV up to Sky inventing football. Covers different competitions and I can see me wasting hours of my life watching each season!

A most excellent discovery.
-
I'm going to have this on my TV later today.
-
What a great find sir. Well played!! I suppose this is going to cover all of the regional stuff that was on after the main star soccer games in the 70's?
Anyway I'm going to enjoy watching.
-
There goes the weekend. Well spotted.
-
Dirty Leeds.
-
Well that's me not leaving the house for a few months - excellent find
I know the game is played by top athletes today at a ever increasing pace but I have to admit I preferred the 70/80's for a footy fix
-
Thanks I will enjoy watching.
-
Nice.

1981/82. Sheff W v Norwich. Tune in just before 1:02:00 for a great diving header.
-
first up the 77-78 season.
-
Can't wait to get into this. Anything concerning 70's footy and I'm happy.
-
i've flicked through a few seasons in the early 80s and I swear i've seen more of Watford than Villa!
Typical of tv stations
Great find, thanks for this

80-81 was fun for obvious reasons. Love the Flash Gordon advertising billboard behind the goal for Norwich vs Brighton.
-
I started watching the '81-'82 season. I thought I was a bit of an anorak when it came to early eighties football but I don't remember Rodney Fern who popped up a few times scoring goals for Rotherham.

But you must remember Rodney Fern playing for Leicester Damo? Didn't he have the nickname Marty Feldman, for obvious reasons?

Good stuff!
Not much of the lads in the early seventies, is there?

We were hardly ever on the box back then. It seemed like wall to wall Wolves and Albion on ATV.
-
Wolves were as unattractive then as they were under "Irish" Mick.
-
ATV destroyed a lot of their original tapes from the 70's which is really annoying. I think other regions like London, Yorkshire etc. weren't quite so reckless.
-
I thought about watching some of the 1976/77 season, but the only games I think they'd definitely show of Villa would be against Blues and I think we lost them.
Maybe they'd show us against the Baggies too?

I think a lot of midlands footage from those days that does exist is from Londons Big Match archives - they used to show brief highlights from other regions

The promotion game against the Baggies was on BBC Match of the day - missed it I was away at Duke of Edinburgh over Easter.
Pretty sure that both games against them when they got promoted were both night matches. The away at the Hawthorns definitely was, think Giles was possibly their manager at the time. If I am not daft can recall playing them on a Monday or Tuesday last game of the season at home one year, after QPR on a Friday so not to clash with the cup final Mancs v Scousers.
As for the Blues 75/76 was on ATV (ITV or whatever) home and away - the game with the Andy Gray winner at the Sty was on ITV. In fact cannot remember a Match of the Day Villa/Blues before the 80's.

I have on tape extended highlights of Villa 2-0 Man Utd from Feb 1975 when we were promoted from the old Division 2 later that season. The only trouble is the tape is in Phillips 2000 format - not sure if I could get this transferred now?? Would need a Phillips machine from that era to copy from.
