Which current ex-Villa players would you welcome back to try help us get promotion from the Championship next season? Reasonable suggestions.
I would go for Gareth Barry (need an experienced leader) and Boaz Myhill (improved a lot since he left).

Well, Myhill hasn't done a great job for the Bitters.
I'd have Gazza Bazza back in an instant.
-
Definitely take Barry back in an instant. Along with Jimmy Milner

What's he done wrong apart from not being quite as good as Ben Foster?

The Scottish Messi.....
I'll get my coat.

I'd take him. He's finally found consistency and looks a class above that level. Hopefully he's matured a bit too. That said I'd take him only on the proviso that shit heads like Gabby etc have been turfed out because you get the impression Bannan could get easily led astray.

Barry
Crouch
-
Barry
Crouch
Crouch would be a good option. I think he'd do very well as an impact player in the Champ. Very good for the bigger games.
I look at Downing having gone back to Boro and hope that Barry might be tempted to return to us. Unlikely but to me, signing Barry is basically a huge step toward making at least a top 6 place a near certainty.
It would be great to see Stan have a fairy tale comeback. His first game back at Villa park would be a flood of grown men's tears.
-
Darren Bent?
-
Benteke, Milner and Young will do.
-

If we do see him back at Villa Ark in the Championship it won't be good news. He'll be in a Leeds shirt having seen out his contract at Liverpool.
-
Darren Bent?
I think he's completely done really. Even as an impact player he's not offering much for Derby.
-
How's Weimann doing?
-
How's Weimann doing?
3 goals this season. He's struggling a bit it seems. I have no idea where Derby are playing him though. The lad has never ever, or will ever be, a capable winger.

They tend to play him as a sub.
-
Peter Whittingham. Knows the division well , can score goals , and takes a decent free kick. Possibly wouldn't cost a lot of money.
-
And is now getting on a bit.
-
Steven Davis....midfield battler
-
Channel hopping yesterday morning & saw Yacouba Sylla ping a peach of a cross field ball playing for Renne.
Tounge in cheek of course - there's a reason many of these guys don't play for us anymore...
-
Salifou. Just for the craic.
-
Practical shouts are definitely Wiemann and Whittingham. How about Johnson at Preston?
-
Crouch would piss that division.

he's lost his place to a golden retriever
-
James Collins. Unlikely though.

Crouch would piss that division.
So would Abbey.
-
Bosnich, Yorke and Taylor.

He never left. He roams the ground during the night and leaves half eaten Balti pies in the refreshment stands.

We are in the Championship not Conference ... Well not just yet!

Johnson in fairness has been very good for Preston and scores goals. Whitts is good at that level and scores goals. Weimann is pants.
-
Where's Joe Bennett ?
I thought he was back ?
Maybe he gets his hair done on match days ?
-
James Collins.
Which one?

Johnson has scored 4 in his last 30 odd games for Preston.

James Collins.
Which one?
Centre half one.

So Ronaldo-like when compared to flabby.
Whittingham, yeah, always looks like he knows what he's doing whenever I catch him.
Weimann, nooooo. I drift back to Spring 2013 and think "yeah, he was fucking good, man", but then I recall all the subsequent times walking back down Trinity Road thinking "how on earth does he keep getting picked?".
Have back? Pretty much anyone sold pre-Lambert.
-
Tonev
Do the have bigger goals in the lower leagues?
I would love Barry to return. Crouch is also a good shout.
-
Crouch would piss that division.
So would Abbey.
Speaking of pissing, what about James Collins (striker) and Samir Carruthers?
-
Boaz Myhill.
-
No chance of Barry coming back, as another poster mentioned on a different thread, Barry is still fit and playing well in the prem. he has never had any pace to lose so I think he can play in the prem for at least another 2 years.
Steven Davis is s decent shout but doubt he would drop down a division, more likely Myhill would and be a decent keeper for us in the championship.
Realistically why would we want anyone back who has been here before other than those of proven pedigree (who won't come anyway) lets get some fresh faces in to change the negativity around the club.
That said if Barry really did want to come back and also Crouch and Davis I wouldn't say no.
-
How's Weimann doing?
Football wise no idea. He's bought a house round the corner from my brother - made a right pigs arse in renovating the exterior imo!
-
When ever i look at the Derby line up Weimann along with Bent are more often than not on the bench

They're missing Simon Dawkins
-

I thought he was back ?
Sheffield Wednesday unless he has snuck back in without me knowing (which is quite possible)
-
Craig Gardner?
-
Craig Gardner?
Go forth and multiply
-
Rambo McInally

Gareth Barry for me as well. Give him the captaincy and sit him front of the back four.
-
Well it's a real chance for somebody to attain legendary status and be at the helm of the side as we fight to get back to the top division.
Barry does have a couple of years left in the prem but who knows??
-

Bang on. With the goings on at Everton and potential change of manager I think that Barry might be up for it too. A season of playing every week and an opportunity to (re)claim some sort of cult status at a club that hopefully means something to him.

Barry's on eighty grand a week. He's going nowhere.

We can but dream Dave.
-
I bet Crouch is on a fair old wage too.
-
Up until Cardiff went up a couple of seasons ago, Whittingham was one of the top players in the Championship. He seems to have regressed a bit since then though. One thing we do desperately need is someone who can take a decent set piece.

Yep, and he's lost his turn of speed.

Nobody mentioned Ivanhoe yet ?

To be fair to him he's knocking on a bit now. 32 this year. His goal record from midfield is still reasonable too.
-

He's still playing despite his glass legs and being about 38ish now. Gives me hope that Stan could make the comeback.
-
Another one ´getting away´....Daniel Johnson, sold to Preston for 50 thousand, I.ve heard a strong rumour that he is on his way to Bournmouth..........Godzvilla!

He's their top scorer this season, from midfield. It would not surprise me to see him get a Premiership move and I think Eddie Howe would be a great manager for someone like Johnson to play under.

Bacuna?
I'd rather have Ivanhoe. Seriously

Bacuna has no class, and today he had no intention of being part of a team , champions league he is having a laugh, he really is championship "at best" but please not with us.
-
We live in hope that we'll only have to see him mascarade in our colours one more time.
