According to the Mail, villa will lose heavily in parachute payments. The new deal is for 3 years rather than 4, but for bigger sums. Alas the teams in the Prem get £100m minimum, those relegated much less. The First year is £40m, then £33m and final year £14m. Obviously promotion puts the club back on £100m per year minimum, but that is the hard bit to achieve.
Thus Villa will only get £87m if they are out for 3 years, while the teams in all three years get £300m. These figures make it clear that the policies of the FOx era with the focus on off field activities did not just hurt us, they hurt Randy Lerner in the pocket. Makes it even dafter that Fox was appointed to make money for the club

Regardless of which division you are in, you match expenditure to income plus any investment. The majority of expenditure is on players' wages, so you have to get value for money out of them. A player on high wages doesn't guarantee a good player (see N'Zogbia for that). There are a number of players we do not get value for money from and the value will decrease in the Championship.
Our loss of income from relegation will be partly offset by lower costs. The key to going forward is the gap and whether you fund it or not. If you do, to what extent.

Without wishing to undermine what is a good point made by Trevor, could I suggest we set up a "Lack of a Parachute Payment Fund" whereby people can bid (in ebay like fashion) to get the chance to push a selected Villa player out of a plane without the player having a the benefit of a parachute. In fact this could be extended to some of the more guilty back room staff.
A large transport plane (such as a Hercules) would be needed for Gabby based on his growth this season.
Given many of the postings and the "anti player" feeling at Villa Park we could raise millions.

If we did get a £40 million payment are there any restrictions placed on where you can spend it?
Can all the money be spent on transfers? just wondering.

I think a club would be well advised to use it as intended to pay wages that are not supported by Championship income.
