Feel free to debate the bit at the bottom.

With the 27,000 comment does that mean that for attendances they automatically count all season ticket holders as being in attendance?
You can settle an argument as my mate said this the other day and I argued that they only count the amount of people who actually come through the gates?

It's tickets sold, and has been officially in the Premier League since about 1996 and unofficially for a long time before then.
-
Unlike the old days when they wouldn't count a lot of the people going through the turnstiles.

Its a tax thing :o

As for the last bit I'm not sure who their last 3 managers have been but yes they probably would have us relegated into the Championship also. Pithiness aside I don't think there are managers at many clubs who couldn't have achieved as much as our last 3 managers have.
-
Clark, Hughton and Rowett?
-
I think we would have gone down last season or the season before with Lee Clark as manager
-
hughton was that recent?

its Houghton
No it isn't. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chris_Hughton

Clark is a disaster as a manager, but I can't see Hughton and Rowett being any worse than the clowns we have had in charge. For what it's worth, I agree with Moyes as first choice and Hughton second.
-
Lambert was as big a disaster as Clark was for the Noses.
The losing mentality and dreadful signings were mainly under his tenure. Absolute buffoon.
-
As a keen reader of omens I don't know whether the close similarity of the names of Hughton and Houghton would be a good thing. Eric the Villa legend, bandy legged thunderboots, last Villa manager to lift the FA Cup, got us relegated but knew and would sing "An Old Shirt of Claret and Blue". If Chris comes Eric will doubtless get as many name checks in these pages as Kieran Clarke and Randy Learner.

Is the third division Villa side you are thinking of the one that beat Man Utd over two legs in the league cup semi final and lost narrowly to Spurs in the final?

Probably the season before. Before they got their act together.

OK... the season before it was a 2nd Div Villa side that got relegated - didn't want to see an injustice for my first Villa heroes (our first season in the 3rd we got to the league cup final but missed promotion - we went up the season after)

Clark was a terrible manager. The picks they have made this century other than he have been nothing short of brilliant for them especially for such a shitty tinpot collection of dirge.
Bruce did really well but got fed up in the end. Only blip was 2005-06.
McLeish won them a trophy and got them their highest finish in what 50 years or so. Never the right man for Villa I hasten to add.
Hughton - how he got them 4th against the utter chaos above him is beyond belief.
Rowett - one of the brightest young coaches in the game it appears. Derby will nab him if we don't.
Look at our record of hires this century - abysmal and half of the seasons spent fighting relegation with £250m over spend and just about every unwanted record going.
-
I think Clark did alright for them considering what was going on there at the time.

You may be right. He is just such a negative manager in too many respects. Just shows what a great job Rowett has done.
The one thing with hiring Hughton or Rowett or Bruce (although I think he is looking like a spent force) is we could, well most of us, nail the myth that we didn't want McLeish because he was a 'Nose'.

yeah ten seconds from relegation to the old division 3

Another good read Dave.
