Sunday, 14th February. Kick off 14:05.
Looking forward to this one.
A winnable game imo. Gabby to continue his scoring run and Veretout to get his first goal.
2-1 Villa.
-
We will hopefully be confident enough to go for it. They have just conceded 6 goals in two games against our relegation rivals.
-
...Benteke's going to score a hat trick to mark his return, isn't he?
Seems like we should have a good shot providing we get the set-piece delivery right and Gabby can turn in another good shift - he's given Liverpool trouble in several of the more recent fixtures, IIRC.
-
I'd like to see Gabby continue to `prove us all wrong'.

I was going to mention him but I'll be surprised if he even gets on the pitch.

Voting options?

Voting options?
You don't get any votes in these parts, this is a one man dictatorship, stripping Villa fans of their hard earned cash and trying to cosy up to the board.
-
This lot are very beatable, they've conceded 4 to Norwich and 2 to Sunderland in last 10 minutes which gives you a guide considering how bad Norwich were on Saturday.
Their record is amazing at Villa Park though. That will be a problem as they'll pitch up here and play with confidence. I just hope it's not one of those games we frequently though when we stand off them for first 20 minutes which lets them settle in and then they go 1 up, let's fly out of the blocks for once and see what happens.
Anyway 1-1. 96th minute equalizer off Sturridge's wheelchair. In an offside position of course.
-
I see Sturridge is finally back in the squad just in time to score his customary goal against Villa before injuring himself and ruling himself out for another 3 months doing his poxy celebration.
-
If we're going to get out of it, we've got win games like this.
-
So when did we actually last beat Liverpool at VP? Was it the Collymore inspired 2-1 from the early Gregory era?
-
They are beatable but I'm not sure we have enough to beat them.
Hope for a win but expect a frustrating draw.
-
So when did we actually last beat Liverpool at VP? Was it the Collymore inspired 2-1 from the early Gregory era?
It was actually only 4 years ago. Last game of season. Downing 1-0
-
Villa are after a confidence-boosting win, whilst liverpool suffered a demoralising concession of a 2 goal lead. On the basis of this, there can be only one outcome. Comfortable liverpool win.
-

Oh god should have remembered that one. Small Heath got relegated on the same day.
Got to be Collymore 2 Liverpool 1 as the last time before then though?
-
Villa to win 2-1 Veretout, and Lescott for us and Benteke for them.
We are well overdue some luck, hopefully we can win 3-4 games on the bounce and start to worry the teams above us.
-
Veretout is due a goal but I think it will be Westwood who scores. 1-1.
-
Veretout is due a goal but I think it will be Westwood who scores. 1-1.
I believe we can win, and I believe we can stay up. But Westwood scoring is stretching it a bit.
-
Will Benteke play and cup his alien ears to both sets of supporter when he scores ?
-
Benteke is going to score, that much is a given, but fear not. Klippity Klopp's fading nobodies will be packed off 2-1, with Gabby scoring a brace to stop the haterz hatin'.
-
Okore to give Benteke a "welcome back to B6" that will remind him of Okore's first day at Bodymoor Heath and not look interested for the rest of the game.
-

Oh yes.
Don't they pull Benteke back for corners? An O.G. winner from the big man would be perfect.

No he's shit now he's left ;)
-
I've gone for a Liverpool win but hope I am proved wrong...
I'll go 1-2 - Agbonlahor for us and Firmino/Benteke for them
-

I think if Firmino plays they win, if he doesn't I can see us beating them

Fuck dem dere fuckers

He'll offer the Holte End out en masse if he scores two.

Maybe, although the 1 nil with Ian Taylor scoring would have been a similar era.
-
Hopefully the FA Cup replay they are involved with will go to extra time and penalties as Klopp is forced to bring his key players off the bench. We can then stroll it next Sunday!
Sorry just woke up from the most bizarre dream! Where am I?
-
Probably the only time I'll say this this season but hopefully Gestede is back for this one, 2 goals at Anfield and he always seems to bully Liverpool's back 4.
Can't see him starting but he'd be a good option to bring off the bench with 30 minutes left.
-
I hope we get a win but I reckon 1-1 draw.
-
Fuck dem dere fuckers
Fuch the fuchers.

Did you just use the words "Gabby"and "scoring run" in the same sentence?
-
Villa win
Gonna have £10 on us to be 5-1 up at half time
-
A comfortable win for us. Yeppity yep

Roses are red
Violets are blue

Maybe, although the 1 nil with Ian Taylor scoring would have been a similar era.
The Collymore game on 28 Feb 1998 was the 2-1 win. The Taylor 1-0 win 2nd March 1997. Those were the last home league wins prior to the 2011 win mentioned.
Record against the Redscouse truly abysmal at VP in last few decades.
Have done better at Anfield in recent past.
The 11 v 11 web site gives the all time record for both league and cup games against this lot as:-
Won 57 Drawn 40 Lost 93
Bloody awful when you think Liverpool were essential a yo-yo club before Shankly arrived.
-
We'll play shit, and lose. Or we'll play well, get cheated blind, and lose.
-
Liverpool really need a win. Hmm. We're far too generous not to oblige, especially at home. A routine 0:2 defeat is on the cards, with Benteke scoring at least one.
But, fuck the fuckers all the same.
-
Be scared, be very, very scared as I've put us down for a win!!
I would love to see us winning 2/3 games on the trot but, then I think back to last Saturday and, before we scored after 44 minutes, we looked as incapable as ever to score. Plus, any decent side would have scored at least 2 against us in those last 20 minutes as, defensively we also reverted to type with inept defending. We were lucky that they didn't have anyone to take advantage of our mistakes.
If only we could have brought in a good goalscorer in January, I would really have fancied our chances to escape the drop as Remi obviously has given them a positive attitude to at least try to give their all.
Fingers crossed though.
-
Unlikely i'll be at this, 1-1.
-
2-0.
-
Villa will klopper them.
-
can really see us keeping another clean sheet , so its a 0-0 or 1-0 for me
don't give a hoot who gets it

We haven't had a Valentines Day massacre since 2000 at Smogboro when Benni and Jules ran riot. Neil Cutler's one and only appearance for us I think...replaced David James.
-
I reckon 0-0.
-
4-2 I reckon.
Saunders 2, Atkinson and Parker
In reality .... I don't know. No Gerrard to cheat or score them a dodgy free-kick/penalty. 1-1 draw.
-
This lot are no good so another win for the Villa.
-
I want Villa to work very hard this week on set pieces so we can score goals from free kicks/corners ;)
-
Routine win for us at fortess villa park.
-
Us to win 1-0, Benteke screamer of an own goal at the Holte End.
Okay maybe not the last bit but I can see us doing them 1-0.
-
It would be good to get back to back league wins- I fancy a very nervous, nail biting 1-0 win, Okore from a set piece.
-
I admire the optimism around here, but to paraphrase game of thrones, if you are expecting a happy ending with the villa then you've not be paying attention for the past 5 years.
-
A want a win of course, but it would give me fresh hope and I'm not sure I can cope with that!
-
It'll be a tough game, but I have absolutely no idea how it's going to turn out. Logic tells me it's unlikely we'll win two in a row though so I'll sit on the fence and say a draw. Mainly because I don't know.
-
Roses are red,
Violets are blue,
Just fucking win Villa ffs!
-
Mmm. Arriving in New York late Saturday evening, and this game will be on at 9am next morning. I think I might struggle to see this one - even if I find a place showing it, the conversation doesn't scan well.
"Happy Valentine's day love, what shall we do on our first morning in New York City ? Watch the Villa ?"
-
Us to win 1-0, Benteke screamer of an own goal at the Holte End.
And he'll only remember he scored in the wrong end after he's done the fingers in the air and looking up to the sky celebration.
-
I hope we get a win but I reckon 1-1 draw.
Again I find it impossible to disagree with my sensei

No, no, no. You say "Happy Valentine's day, love. As a special treat because I care about you so much I have arranged it so you can watch the Villa on our first morning in New York City!!"

"Happy Valentine's day love, what shall we do on our first morning in New York City ? Watch the Villa ?"
Your challenge is to get her to suggest it. Leave clues about the game in your hotel room and time in New York. As a beautiful gesture she then finds a location to watch the game. Then ensure after the game has, win secured you whisk her off for a very romantic lunch. It's a win-win.
Either that or you show her a great time Saturday evening, wink wink, leave her exhausted then sneak out Sunday am, coming back to the hotel around 11.30 with flowers and lunch.
-
Simple. 'Look love, I'm going to watch the Villa. You can either come with me or go shopping'.
PS I'm single if anyone hadn't guessed already
-
Win this and we'd be 3 wins from 6, plus 2 draws. That's 11 points from a possible 18.
That would be the sort of form that breeds confidence, and though it's still full of ifs, buts and maybes, continuing that form would see us reach 40 points by the end of the season.
No, I haven't been drinking, honest.

How about, Happy Villa Valentines love, you won't guess what I have arranged for our first morning in NY.
Have you thought of sleeping tablets, or even laxatives?
-
1-0 Daley.

Go to "The Football Factory", opposite The Empire State Building. I went in there to watch our boxing day game against Palace in 2013. - http://www.footballfactoryny.com/
They will definitely have the game on.
-
How about...
"I loved Villa long before you"..."Happy Valentine's my love, I've arranged for you to have a lie-in and ordered you breakfast in bed, I'll be back in a couple of hours as I want to find you some special flowers." Your only problem is that you'll most likely both be awake around 4am !
-
Simple. 'Look love, I'm going to watch the Villa. You can either come with me or go shopping'.
I can picture the conversation now:
Mrs DaveD "You love the Villa more than you love me"
DaveD " Shaddap, I love the Albion more than I love you...."
-
Beating Norwich was vitally important just to keep in touch, but if we have ANY pretentions of getting out of this mess then we really must get something from this game and games like it.
Games are running out so I think a win is imperative.
Anything less and the fat lady will start clearing her throat.
I just think Gabby may have decided he wants to be our saviour this year and will spark into life for a few a games.
I'm going 2-1 with a Gabby brace.
-
There is a romantic place on 7th and 33rd who may be showing the game. Almost Breakfast at Tiffany's. Except it's a Hooters bar with 60 wide screen TV's showing sport.

Very inventive. Weather forecast is -10C, so finding flowers might be tricky...

I think that's where the NY Lions meet up. There's also Nevada Smith's which is not bad.

Not in NY, the place will be gearing up for Valentine's Day, lots of over the top expressions of love and really tacky
-
There you go. Tell her to meet you by the Love ornament thing. It's just off 5th Avenue and opposite Cassidys which will likely show the game.
-
H&V. Where fans come together for all things Villa and advice on your love life. And help with subsequent break up/divorce.

Looks like Coutinho and Sturridge will play a part on Sunday. Damn.
-
So Sturridge who has played about one game all season (the one where he scored twice against us) has now recovered just in time to score his usual goal against Villa.

Having watched so many mismatches against the top sides at Villa Park over the years, I'm inclined to think that we'll get another on Saturday against Liverpool. It's my default position on these types of games, honed over decades now. Liverpool, Man U, Arsenal, Citeh, Chelsea, strolling around our place as if they own it and the chants of their bragging fans echoing around a rapidly emptying Villa Park. Not only do we hardly ever win, they're rarely even competitive matches and I've tended to give them a miss for some time now, even when I've had a season ticket. Utterly predictable results and an embarrassing chasm in class and quality. Couthino and Sturridge now back to add to their expensively assembled side, I suspect they'll bully us into submission. The saliva will be dripping from their mouths as they walk on to the pitch 3-0 to the scouse bastards.
It's sad, I know, and I'm sorry I can't be more optimistic, but I can see the game in my head now, mainly because I've watched so many of them over the last 10 years. I'd love to say that the Villa will put in the performance of their lives in front of a packed and fervent Villa Park, but I just can't see it. I just can't and it saddens me.

I am 20, I've had a season ticket for 10 years, going to games at VP for 15. I've never seen us beat Man United at home.
I agree with this.
-

Most of the time it shows American sport, which is nothing at all like real sport.
-
Somewhere along the line it became acceptable to lose to the 'big clubs' both home and away. Then it became expected. Now it's just a formality, a boring routine, which is why I have no confidence or hope in us winning this game whatsoever. I'd love to be proved wrong, and I know we're capable of getting get a freak result once in a blue moon, but I know Villa too well. All too often we're beaten before we walk down the tunnel.
-
It is written that Benteke and Milner will score, and Sturridge will get his usual gift. Lescott for us from a set piece. 3-1 to that lot.
-
Could be interesting. Under Sherwood, we were pretty much the "go to" team for any club who wanted to halt their poor run of form. We were the team everyone wanted to play in order to get back on track. Liverpool have won 1 in their last 6 league games (or something,) plus the loss last night in Walford, so it will be interesting to see what they get out of Garde's Villa.
I'm going for a draw - which will be an improvement but won't be enough.
-
FIFA 16 predicts a 1-1 draw. Milner opens the scoring with a close range volley at the near post for them fairly late in the second half, but in the 93rd minute Gabby heads in an equaliser after an initial effort is headed off the line by a defender.
-
I think we'll lose this one. Can see them passing it around well, getting an early goal and us not being able to get back into it. 0-2.

funny enough FIFA 16 predicted 2-0 vs Norwich and I thought, "yeah, right."
-
Could do with Rudy on the bench - they are weak from set-pieces..

From what I remember they didn't really trouble us at all did they?
-
In Lambert's last full season at VP we would not have stayed up but for wins against Arsenal, Man City and Chelsea together with a draw against Liverpool.
It has been done.
-
I can't think of the last season where we didn't beat at least one of the
big rich 4 or 5.
-
Could have done with Sturridge breaking down again last night. He showed glimpses of what he can do, and I do worry that he'll be too good for our defence.
-

Yeah, he looked worryingly sharp. It's a shame (for him, not them) that he's made of glass because he is a bloody good player.
-
He is also a greedy little shit so bollocks to him.
-
Wife sad to me you do realise its Valentine's Day on Sunday
I said yes and I will be with my true love

Furry muff!

Would've been TSM1, I think. Of all the gutless performances at Villa Park in the past five years, those two home games against the Manc clubs that season were probably the worst.

Were weak on delivering them...

Didn't we beat Chelsea where Stephen Ireland won Player of the Season instead of Man of the Match?

Yep, I meant home or away rather than just at VP.
-
I think we will sneak this and VP will go apeshit.
-
I was chatting to a Liverpool supporting colleague last night and he said "stick a big bloke up front because we can't defend set pieces"
-
I'll be looking for a bar in Key West that's screening this; it'll be the first home game I've missed since 2007.

This!!
1-0 Veretout to break his duck

Check out Jack Flats at 509.5 Duval Street.
Went to The Keys November 2014. Much to my Wife's amusment I went looking for somewhere to watch the Villa v Southampton game one very hot afternoon.
The place was virtually empty albeit a few people escaping the sun. Asked the guy behind the bar if they could get this game on. He looked at his phone to see what channel it was on and changed one of the big screens behind the bar for me. They then produced a mini speaker system that you put on the bar in front of you to tune to the correct channel to get commentary!
They looked very amused and bemused when we scored and I was jumping around the empty bar. This didn't last as Bertrand I think equalised just before the end of the game.
Another 'must do' bar is the Green Parrot. Live music and great Bloody Mary's. Enjoy
-
This is Villa, hat trick for Benteke and mayhem on the forum.
The Norwich game looked like two teams destined for relegation.
It's the hope that's killing me now.
-
I was chatting to a Liverpool supporting colleague last night and he said "stick a big bloke up front because we can't defend set pieces"
Didn't the Stripeyfilth score two past them on set pieces? Could be a good thing to play on.
-
Even Gestede scored twice past them earlier this season.
-

It'll be on NBC Sports Network at 9am, if that helps.

They do look weak at defending set pieces so hopefully we will exploit this.

We have no big striker available to score from set pieces. We had Benteke but sold him to another PL club didn't we? We can get the big guys up for corners/free kicks but I hope to god the coaches have been working on our delivery. And for gods sake keep Westwood well away from any corner taking. I swear I'll blow a gasket if he does 1 more floaty corner or fails to clear the first defender! Probably blind optimism here but I'm having a tenner on 3-1 to the mighty Villa.

The delivery for Lescott's goal against Norwich was excellent.

Sure was. So was Traores for Gils brilliant volley at Sunderland. But overall the delivery this season has
been piss poor and needs working on.A LOT.

thought the way they finished the game against West Ham was ominous
Sturridge was outstanding and Benteke looked a new player next to him
a repeat of that kid of form up top would be too much for us
to be honest they are bang average elsewhere in their team
but unless that win at the weekend has given us a serious confidence boost, we wont be good enough to take advantage
as an aside, Milner has been a huge disappointment for them this season
-
If Sturridge plays, the absolute no-brainer of a bet this weekend is for him to score against us.
-
And then do his dumb little dance.
-
And then do his dumb little dance.
Or maybe a display of sulking.
-
And dislocate both shoulders whilst doing so. He will also be ruled out for the next 93 matches with 'hurt feelings' after the Holte End sang something nasty about him, his next match for Liverpool will be against Aston Villa at Anfield where he will score and then injure himself etc...

Yep it seems like he's only ever fit when it's time to play us now and he has a blinder.
-
0-3

Can't see a win given our non existent attacking prowess but by god, I'd love it if we won just to shut that twat Lawro up.
-
Just can't call this one at all. A draw seems a possibility, particularly after 'The Mighty Reds YNWA''s midweek cup marathon.
-
Do hope he doesn't put Hutton back in - we've lookied infinitely better without him.
-
please, please, please, please win Villa even if it just shuts up those plastic red wankers down here up for a day or two...

And Mickey Quinn, the bell end.

Has Remi said anything of note in his presser?

Yes, the biggest twat on the airwaves and perennial Villa hater.

I'll be looking for a bar in Key West that's screening this; it'll be the first home game I've missed since 2007.
Found a place Miami beach to watch it. Not that that helps you mind

Key West you say!
Sorry I thought you said screaming
-
Come on you Villa boys. Win this and the belief will be there in abundance.

So that will be a resounding "THUD" we'll hear if the result is the other way?
-
Only my fourth trip to VP this season but appropriate to visit my oldest love on Valentine's Day. I've got to say since we first met in the late 70's she's let herself go a bit.
Taking my almost 5 year old to his third game and this will fill me with joy no matter what but you do feel if we get something then this could be the start of some momentum.
-
I honestly don't know why I think this - but I've gone for a Villa win! We'll come from behind after Sturridge opens the scoring early-doors, but has to go off after one of his arms flies off during his crap celebration thing.
A Bacunu miss-hit cross & a tap in by Flabby for the good guys. Oh, & crazy celebratory scenes at VP. obviously.
-
Anything less than 3 points tomorrow and it's safe to say we are down. I just can't see how we could make up the difference. The only real point of discussion will be who will join us and Norwich.
As much as I want us to win I can't see it happening.
0-0.
-
sunderland done what we cant, beat united on home soil. Must get something tomorrow to keep the pace
-
A win and we are back in the mix. 5 pts isn't that insurmountable. We have to go for it.

0-0.
You can get 8/1 against that prediction, Rudy.
I believe both teams will score, and it is probable that they will score more than us. The fans will be well up for it though, so it should be a lively encounter.
It is going to be freezing cold with a North North Easterly gusting at 27 mph. Holte Enders will be getting the full benefit directly up the fundament.
-
We simply have to want this more tomorrow. There's nothing daunting about Liverpool. We have to want to win more than them.
-
I am hoping the Bin Dippers may have one eye on the Europa Cup and League Cup final so i will go for a 1-1 draw
-
To have any chance we need 4 points from this and Stoke away. This currently seems the easier to win. Although i've done Stoke away twice since they came back and both games are our only wins there, i'm going again this season!
-
Stoke are an odd team. Battered last week against Everton at home, they go and win comfortably at Bournemouth with 10 men. Hard to know what Stoke we'll play against.
-
So the gap is going to remain 8 points at the end of play today. We simply have to win tomorrow.
-
A win tomorrow and some of those clubs above will start to sweat a lot more. Everyone has counted us out, so we have to have the right attitude from the very start. We can do this.
-
It's been a good day for us today in the end after Sunderland's early win. Massive game tomorrow and a win would see us almost back within touching distance. It would also give the players a lot of confidence to beat a decent team as we've only beat crap teams so far.
I can't see us winning though, but I hope I'm wrong.
-
What a massive opportunity this is, to close the gap to 5 points. We can do it.

Indeed. Such a big game tomorrow.

I have just heard some worrying news, if true, from someone who works there.
6 villa players sitting in the VIP bar in Harvey Nics in town all from around 3pm til 7.
At least 3 of them probable starters tomorrow.
Doesn't sound like the ideal preparation for a big game?
I'm sceptical. Isn't this kind of behaviour Twitter's reason for being?

Better resting in the bar than having to follow the wags

It is and I'm so nervous I'm not even sure I can watch it. It would be the first game I've not watched in years but the tension is so high I might end up going for a walk in the rain. God, I hate seeing us in this ridiculous situation.
-
5 pts..... the players should need no more incentive, a win and we are back in the hunt. Let's fucking do them.
-
Win this and Bournemouth and Swansea start cacking their pants. Big style.
It drags them into it and I believe we have to play them both.
-
we will win tomorrow, its the law!
any team news?
-
1-1 Gabby for us and Faimlio for them.

I am on the vodka now, but chuckled at Faimlio. He looked shite earlier in the season, but no doubt will enjoy tomorrow

Is the game actually on live?

Yep, SS1.

Would have been more confident if Sturridge wasn't fit
-
Sturridge is a massive worry, always seems to do well against us. Who are their likely centre backs, a arsed Gabby can affect the likes of Toure and Lovren
-

A fit Gabby will panic them. The key is getting players in there to support him, ignoring the obvious need for service.
-
Come on Villa you can do it.
-
This will take an enormous effort from the players, I can see us sitting of them in their half when they have possession and try and catch them on the break. How is the injury list? we could do with some options off the bench.
-

I think Lovren is out, mate. Caulker will probably play with Toure as Skrtel is injured too I believe.
For me, we need to stop Coutinho-by far their best player. Firmino is tricky, too, as is Sturridge. It's not so much that I dislike Sturridge, just his wanky goal celebration and God obsession. Each to their own though, and all that.
Still can't stand seeing Milner playing for them. I think it's written in the stars that Benteke will score, but I do fancy us to get something from this. I think a 1-1 draw, but they're not too clever at the back. If we can keep their talented players quiet by defending well and closing down, we could win it.
Grealish is injured again. What a shit season it's been for him. He has time on his side, but barring the Blues game and also Leicester away, he has been diabolical. Pull your socks up, Jack.
So yes, 1-1 it is for me. I despise Liverpool. Jordan fucking Henderson-overrated beyond compare. How he is captain and gets a game for England I'll never know.
Gabby for us, Benteke for them, sadly.
-
0-3 :(
Bring on the whiskey.
-
Why does Sturridge always manage to get fit when they play us? He'll score today and be out injured for the rest of the season!
-
If we can keep Sturridge quiet then we have a chance. as others have said, typical he's back to play us the swine.
-
ive got a good feeling about today,it isn't going to be easy viewing but we are going to shade it 1 to 0 :-\
-
Paddy power offering 10/1 on Villa win with both teams scoring. I put £2.00 on.
-
If their defence plays a high line Gabby, Veretout and Gil could actually hurt them. See that in my hand, that's a straw and I'm clutching it for dear life.
-
Winnable game for other teams around us but one of many bogey teams for us.... 0-2 again. Sturridge and a late 2nd for CB to rub salt in.
-
0-0. I'd take that.
-
On the 1223 from Smelly Oak. Pleasantly pissed.
Come on you Lions!
-
0-0. I'd take that.
Surely to late for a draw to be of any benefit?
-
0-0. I'd take that.

It wouldn't be the end of the word. We'd be 7 from safety with 12 to go. Leicester were 7 from safety with 9 to go. Well they had a game in hand but that was Chelsea and they lost that one.
-
How the fuck is Sturridge always fit to score against us?
