I wonder if yesterday's game hadn't happened whether we'd all be a bit more confident about a decent result as the previous 3-4 league games we've looked competent if not exactly prolific in front of goal. I honesty don't know what Villa is going to turn up but I do fancy a draw. 1-1
In another universe we destroy them 4-1 with a brace from the recently out of retirement Savo Milosevic in a fancy but controversial blue away kit.

I think the five games unbeaten was probably a false dawn. After all we went 5 unbeaten in Lamberks first season, and then that was quickly followed by the 15-0 in 3 games debacle.

We've just go so little quality in the side and no real confidence so I suspect we'll scrape 1-2 wins in the remaining games. IF we're lucky.
Title: Re: West Ham vs Aston Villa Pre-Match Thread

We haven't scored at Upton Park since 2011 I think. I went last season and that was probably the last decent game Guzan had for us, he saved us big time at the end from Carroll's headers

When West Ham came to VP they didn't have Payet playing and Valencia was still a bit rusty.

To me as much as it annoys me to say this we really should be looking at what they did when they went down in 2011, how they got up straight away and then re-established themselves as a competitive top half prem team.

We're not talking about some visionaries at boardroom level either, it's Sullivan and Gold!

2008, we won with a late OG during that run we had where we seemed to win every away game. A deflected Milner shot I think it was.

Villa to win this one, I think when Lescott and Okore are restored to central defence, and Richards is restored to the bench we will look much better.

We are due a goal from somewhere, probably Ayew.

1-0 to the Villa.

Firstly, let's get real as our "unbeaten" run also included 2 matches against WW.

A few on here are predicting us to win - some basic facts about football, just in case we've forgotten - to win, we need to score - ask any Villa player and I doubt they will know what scoring is unless it's with some dolly bird!! the other thing is, you have to keep a clean sheet - what's one of them I hear you ask.

When we're playing at home and, win the toss, we need to revert to kicking towards the Holte in the second half. At the moment, it sucks even more life out of me when I see us going towards the Holte in the first half. Also, we need to get rid of that "end of the world" tune they play when we are coming out at the start of a match. Play "Heroes" and tell the players to listen to the words and then act on them.

As regards the Cup match, I said in the pre match thread that although the ticket prices looked good, they were probably much too high as it was fairly obvious we would play mainly our 2nd string and City would have a raffle to see who they would play as, whoever it was, they were going to give us a drubbing!!

3-1 to them. Staying solid for the opening 20-30 mins and slowly working our way into the game is our best shot.  But we seem incapable of doing that.  Lescott for us.

I'm quite looking forward to this. Sell out in the away end and an evening game where I have a sneaky feeling that we might spawn our way to a 1-0 win.

First goal is key. We need to avoid conceding early so that we can grow into the game.

Gabby up top [cries] with Ayew supporting and Gil at the head of the diamond for me. I think we need Westwood [cries some more] Gana and Veretout's endeavor to stymie West Ham's midfield runners.  Payet makes them tick, as with out him, they look garbage, as we saw only a few weeks ago.

I haven't forgiven Marlon Harewood for his hat-trick against us a few years back!  With the board giving up and the players knowing that they don't have to try too hard because there's no one coming in to replace them, I hope they don't give up too.  West Ham have one or two injuries too but I see a 2-0 home win here.

Fraid so, BT Sports. Hopefully the Kit Stealers will see this as an opportunity to rest players and make the result less embarrassing for us, a la Man City.

We've just signed up to BT and so far have only watched a comprehensive defeat for Worcester Warriors. I am undecided whether or not to watch this as I'm so fucked off with the whole thing. I'm not kidding, this official admission of defeat has ruined my entire day, and I don't think I can be arsed to have two days in a row where I'm bothered about it so much.

Lerner's mother'maiden name was WOLKOFF.
That's exactly what he's done to the Villa
He's walked off with all our hopes, dreams and pride and left us high and dry. Wnker!

I won't be getting up in the middle of the night anymore, I think Lerner has drained the last bit of enthusiasm out of us. He is without doubt the most incapable of owners we could have had. We laughed our heads off at the filth when they had the porn kings running them, well sometimes it pays to keep your mouth shut.

Bunn

Richards Okore Lescott Cissokho

Gana

Gil Veretout Sinclair

Ayew

Agbonlahor

Subs: Guzan, Bacuna, Clark, Grealish, Lyden, Hepburn-Murphy, N'Zogbia

Richards has to play RB. If I see anyone else back there, I'll shoot someone.

I have also plumped for the draw. It's 5/2 - think I'll have a bit of that. If it comes in, I'll put it all on a win at home to Norwich. All going well, I'll put the lot on Villa to take the scousers in a Valentine's Day massacre.

Much respect to anyone who is going down there tonight. Despite everything that's going on at the moment, the away support remains up their with the best. Their desire to be there on a Tuesday night in the east end of London while we're languishing at the bottom of the table should have been enough of a reason for the board to back Garde in this window.

Worth reading some comments made by journalists connected to PlainDealer in 2012 describing Lerner's ownership of the Cleveland Browns.
Described as "pathetic, the most irrevelant billionaire in the world, a recluse, delivered so little following fanfare, hires turned out to be dismal for the most part, not a good owner and not a lucky one either."
Not my words but ones I'm sure Villa fans can identify with.

I think he is our best option at RB. Maybe have Bacuna play in front of him and switch Gil to the left, but I wouldn't have Bacuna as an out-and-out full back.

When Richards plays, we tend to leak goals, apart from the Albion game and that's because they didn't bother to have any shots on target. Our unbeaten little run came with a back four of Bacuna, Okore, Lescott and Cissohko.

I tell you what its not such a stupid idea.

How long did our dry period last under Lambert? Doing something as absurd as a defender up top might have worked.

I'm sure Micah up front would out score Agbonlahor.

Greetings Villains. It's been a while since I was on here.

This thread has made sad reading for me. It takes me back to our last relegation season, and pains me to see loyal fans expecting the bare minimum of fight, determination and the basic level of tactical nous and commitment from the players to be constantly disappointed by insipid performances.

The unfortunate thing now is, you are as good as relegated, and the players know this - as does your board, which is evidenced by the lack of transfer activity in January. At the very least though, your players should want to play on for a bit of pride.

I'm not sure how to call this. The obvious tactic for Villa would be to sit back and play for a 0-0 looking to score on the break or set pieces. Playing at home to the bottom team with us going so well, certain sections of our crowd will expect an easy win, but football does not work like that. If we score early on, I can see you lot rolling over and us strolling to a win. Keep it tight and get to half time 0-0 and you can nick something.

You can get 40-1 on Ayew first scorer and Villa to win 1-0, surely worth a flutter for an ardent Villa fan. I will be bunging a nicker on it. However my smart money will be going on Antonio to score first and West Ham to win 3-0 at 75-1.

Always a pleasure to read Sendo's thoughts. Saw the Irons with a West Ham-supporting mate at Newcastle the other week. Was looking forward to watching some fast, fluid, attacking football for a change. As things turned out, this all came from Newcastle, as West Ham were absolutely dire. I think that the lack of any communication from the club says it all. They really should have someone at our club that puts out at least a once weekly bulletin to the fans to tell about any injuries, or, when the time comes, what plans we have regarding signing new players. Anything really, just keep us informed so at least we feel that we count for something in this money grabbing business.

PS: Note to the board - we do NOT want to hear about how many shirts we've sold as this information is totally irrelevant to the fans. Wer only want to know about footballing matters. The big clue is in our title: Aston Villa FOOTBALL club, NOT Aston Villa enterprises!!

As regards the match, only 65% of voters think the hammers will win. I don't know how many of those who think we won't lose were at the City match last saturday!!

We won't be able to watch - it would be cruel to our Rottweiller who goes to hide in the bathroom these days when the Villa are on TV - she is a nervous wreck knowing my son and I are going to be so upset, she can sense we are not happy and thinks it's her fault (the silly bitch!).

Will probably watch Holby instead - a few heart transplants, unusual objects being removed from strange places, doctors and nurses shagging in the broom cupboard, the dog can cope with that.
