Telegraph seems clear:
Black, the former Motherwell and Coventry manager, is expected to join up with the Premier League's bottom club next week
Remi Garde has moved to appoint Rotherham coach Eric Black as his new assistant manager at Aston Villa.
Black, the former Motherwell and Coventry manager, is expected to join up with the Premier League's bottom club next week after being headhunted by Garde.
The 52-year-old has established an impressive reputation as a coach, working under Steve Bruce and Gary McAllister, and will boost Garde's backroom team at Villa Park.
-
I hope Black is swiftly followed by replacements for Kozak, Westwood and Bacuna.
-
According to the Telegraph, Eric Black will be appointed Asst Mgr til the end of the season. He has a good reputation and the bonus ( as far as ´ l'équipe des Villans´ are concerned ) of 5 years experience of playing in France...........Godzvilla!

Black's experience with Metz as a player for five years has proven pivotal for Garde, who has many French speaking players in his squad.
Garde has been working without a recognised No 2 since his appointment in November and Villa's board had attempted to persuade him to take on Steve Round, David Moyes's former assistant.
But Black is Garde's own choice and is set to agree a deal which will run initially until the end of the season.

Previously worked with Dr. Jospeh Venglos.

From the little I know, this doesn't seem massively impressive; but I remain open-minded.
-
ready for the Black days ahead
-
A positive is that he will have an extremely good knowledge of the Championship and the players within it, so should the worst happen and we drop his experience will be a useful asset.
-
I seem to remember Black bouncing around on the blues bench, with Mr potato head when the played us.
Let's hope he can coach getting people into the box.
-
Well he's experienced and he's not a complete joke of an appointment like Keane or Wilkins. Remi needs help and we need a proper staff line up. Good luck to him.
-
Hasn't it almost become a case of just getting someone in the door.

Well said
-
He worked under old red nose at Aberdeen during their most successful spell - hopefully he's brought his hairdryer with him. He was also a decent striker so perhaps he can teach Kozak and Gestede a thing or two. We'll see.
-
He's only 52 so might be worth registering him as a striker and playing instead of Gestede?
-
Just had a look at the Rotherham United web site.
As at 1hour 20 minutes ago site states that Assistant Manager Eric Black has left the club by mutual agreement. Started in the summer as first team coach and was promoted to AM in October.
No comment as to where he is going but that he had received an offer elsewhere.

Ticks a lot of boxes, including having knowledge of the Championship so could be a useful fella next season too (do we know how long the contact is?).

Can't remember where, but I read end of the season initially.
-
That's a bit odd.

According to this article http://www.expressandstar.com/sport/aston-villa-fc/2016/01/25/remi-garde-set-to-put-his-money-on-eric-black/ it's 'expected to be confirmed until the end of the season'. Not sure why we aren't planning long-term, it's not like this guy thinks the Championship is beneath him, he's just come from Rotherham.

My guess is that Garde still has his first choices in mind and that Black would be a stop gap until the summer when they may be more readily available.

Seems reasonable, I'd be happy with that. Maybe Black would drop down to Coach in the summer if that happened.
-
Surely it is a short term contract to see if they like working together, and if they do, they will simply extend the arrangement.

Yes, that seems plausible too. Perhaps more so than my thoughts as at least we've been able to get him in with a minimum of fuss.
-
He's been named as a first team coach so Garde must be confident of getting his first choices at the end of the season.

Agreed. Remi's mates at Lyon are still his favoured choice for assistant I would have thought, so Black as coach makes sense.

;D True ~ imo
Eric has been 'caretaker' at many more clubs than he has been the manager. However, he has only lasted a match or three at all of them. But he has followed some dross....Evans Keane (Blackburn), even Bruce.
...............
When Wilkins was our appointed asst Manager, I went apoleptic on here ~~~ got the usual denigration ~ ;D ~ however I feel that I was justified by results.
I was also anti-Tactics when he was the new Messiah last season.
I have no bad word against Remi ~~~ and likewise against Eric, who, in my mind is a careful, practical and workmanlike pro. He helped our neighours get promoted don't forget ;D
Eric's contract is not a carrot,~~~ if we know/suspect, that approaches will be made for Remi's ex-colleagues, then I am pretty sure Eric knows that as well. Hence the contract.
If Remi can't get in his original choices as backroom, Eric has the opportunity to seal a longer term contract.
He is bi-lingual and can bridge any "mis-understanding" with our non-French speakers.
Like he can explain to Gaby and Jack, a less hurtfull translation of 'merde'
Eric is a pro, been there done it etc....so even if Remi gets his original choices, for the backroom~~ I'd be happy to see Eric Black stay on.
Nothing wrong with him.

In a sincere spirit of friendship alftitimus can I suggest that you are lining yourself up for a good shoeing on here if you continue to make your otherwise interesting posts look like the Magna Carta.
-
I might be wrong on this but this smells of a replacement for garde

Well the colour is probably right for the smell.

I finally get all the ~~~~~. It's making waves.

Not "might be wrong", totally wrong, and you are probably a seriously challenged bluenose
-
I can smell "Obsession"

Very good!
;D

I can smell "Obsession"
Either that or Eau De Pissas that's what most of them smell of in their flea riven cesspit of St Dumpdews.

A big hero to a lot of Aberdeen fans.
And we have a great track record with folks from there
Billy McNeill, Alex Mcliesh
-
Black's first order of business was to deal with Emmanuel Adebeyor who had been spotted going club to club last week, looking for a new home.

... yes totally agree with Alftitimus , all in all a very sensible appointment by Remi and Eric seems to have a wealth of knowledge in football.

Neale Cooper too. :(

SAF loves Villa Park too, we were very hospitable to him and his Manure teams over the years.

For there to be anything "usual" about the way people react to you on here, you'd have to actually have made far more than the 37 posts you've 'contributed' thus far.
I can honestly say you've caught the attention recently for a small number of things, none of which are the forcefulness of your out-there views.
Said things are:
1. Using smileys.
2. ~~~~~
3. Your quirky posting style which makes people assume you're a nose on a wind up, mostly on the basis that the majority of people here find it hard to even understand what you're saying, let alone debate with you.
