Title: Norwich City v Aston Villa - Pre Match Thread
Post by: UK Redsox on December 26, 2015, 09:27:51 PM
Only two days away*, so we might as well run this alongside the West Ham post-match thread.

(* and I'm already part way to Norwich)

it'll be interesting to see if anyone gets a rest for the game.

Maybe Clark will come in for Lescott

No idea on this one. Only thing you can say is with our error- prone defence we're not going to keep a clean sheet so its whether you see us getting an equalizer or 2....

I'm certainly not a Lescott fan, but, I have to say he played well today and, apparently he did well vrs Newcastle.
I'm wondering whether a 3-5-2 would help.

2-0 to Norwich, no idea who will score as I can only think of three Norwich players off the top of my head. So two from Redmond, Brady and Hoolahan.

Today we missed a huge chance to put these lot under pressure. The gap could have been 7 and down to 4 with a win on Monday.
Sadly we didn't.
I think another draw will keep the gap at 9 and kill off any lingering hopes.

1-1.

Absolute massive match. Biggest game of the season. This is win at all costs. Its really a case that a win here can gather momentum.
If look at harry Kane getting thru and scoring feel there's hope for ayew to get a goal or two as Norwich seem to enjoy backing off.
Lets say 0-2 villa. Please win, please!!

I think he will select
.        Guzan
Hutton/bacuna okore Clark/richardson
 veretout Westwood
 sinclair  gestede ayew  gill

I can see Richardson starting with Bacuna moved into midfield if Sanchez is out.

Apart from that, I would go again. Sort of side Gestede might get some joy against.

This is the long awaited win...confidence will be up and we will score early to pile the pressure on Norwich, then add another on the counter, 0-2.

Assuming Richards and Sanchez are out we'll start...

Guzan
Hutton  Okore  Lescott  Bacuna
Westwood  Gana
Gil  Veretout  Ayew
Gestede

Traore will get 3 mins at the end.

For those of us who still retain some belief, it goes without saying that the next two games against bottom four teams are cup finals. If we could somehow pull two victories out of the hat, not only would the table look a lot better, confidence would rocket amongst the team and supporters.

I said before the Newcastle game that the two I could see us winning out of this batch of games were Norwich and Sunderland. Norwich will be the tougher out the two though. Our record is not too bad there. so who knows.

                   Guzan
Bacuna Okore Lescott Clark
               Westwood
    Gana.                  Veretout
                 Grealish
          Ayew.          Gestede

Traore for Grealish after an hour - time to let Jack off the leash to test if he has the character required & has some backbone, Traore needs more than 10 mins at some point.

Gil not first option - soooo average & a complete physical passenger, no pace, actually made two 'challenges' yesterday but does not offer enough with the ball to justify being a passenger.

Successive managers have been obsessed with either defensive or creative centre midfielders, we have no athleticism, no box to box - shocking lack of balance!

I'd keep the same side. We need continuity although at the same time, there's a temptation to stick Sinclair back in and go for pace and put Gestede in at Sunderland, who look dodgy from crosses.

Win for us. First one I have predicted all season. I also predict another parking ticket because I always get one in that benighted hole of a city. Those of you going by car, the first BP petrol station on the left on the A11 is where Alan Partridge was filmed. Mention it to the manager it makes him go ape shit.

Why can't they play from the start like the last two matches second halves? Rene needs to kick them up the ar*e in the pre game dressing room, plus of course, find someone as well as Ayew who can score a goal or two.

It's not as easy as just kicking players in the arse though is it? Rene, or Remi as I like to call him has got them from not playing well at all for a long time to progressively improving for longer stretches. The goal just before HT was a killer because I'm confident given how we were playing overall we would have won the game in the second half. And especially if we had a proper forward or two in the squad. Gestede did ok yesterday but he should be sub and not a starter. Throw in a Loic Remy or Charlie Austin then we might give ourselves a much better chance.

Got to win the next two. Anything less and we've got too much to do. Remarkably we're still within sniffing distance of 17th...just about. And to drag ourselves within 6 points of Norwich tomorrow could be a turning point. 2 wins on the bounce could also instil a lot of much needed confidence. This is where our season may just be saved. It's a long shot but the wins have to start coming immediately now.

I think win and a draw would give us enough hope to keep going. 2 wins and we will stay up but can't see 2 wins on the bounce.

Dogged 0-1 win.
Have a feeling Jack will start this one with Ayew and Rudy up top.
First game this season we aren't on the tv here so of course we'll win!!

If Richard's is fit, I'd like him to play right back with Okore remaining at centre half.

It'll be interesting to see what Garde does with Sanchez being out. The four man midfield has made us look a lot more solid and given Veretout a bit more freedom. Will we see the young lad Jordan Lyden thrown in or will he start Gil?

Oh and Happy Birthday PaulWinch.

I can't help thinking we'll win this. I've no idea where this blind optimism has come from.
You've been on the sherry!
Hmm.... I'll post again in the morning when I've sobered up then.
Good idea and if you arrive at the same conclusion I would start worrying.
It's the morning, I'm sober, and I'm still of the same opinion.

And so are 58% of the poll as I type this. Who knew crystal meth was so widely available?

Quite a few positive posters in this thread.

Just a pity that Garde doesn't share that positivity.

He'll hold out for a 1-1 draw at best.

Take something to read Traore.

I don't think we've played for draw's at all. We had to stop the habit of losing first of all and picking up points have done that. We need to build on it now though.

Losing Sanchez did cost us, but I was a little dismayed at how poorly the players adapted to the substitution. Maybe there was a lack of clarity in instructions from the bench, who knows. They looked better organised when they came back out. Veretout is starting to look like a threat playing where he is, I'd try to not have to move him, but does Remi believe he has other resources to keep him there? I don't know, so it's a good job I'm not him!
If Richards is fit, I'd get him in at right-back. Hutton, for all his admirable enthusiasm, simply cannot cross, and his defensive positioning is costing us regularly. That's the change I'd make, I'll leave the Sanchez conundrum to Garde.
And here's hoping it feels like all our birthdays come later!
Villa win, I feels it.

Changed my mind to a win only because surely we can't go any longer without fluking something. We are shit but not that shit. Could do with a really jammy goal as well. We've started to get a touch of luck with Westwood not getting a pen against him for blatant hand ball.

Nice one Edge.
Just a little demo of what Legion means.

As the vast majority of posters on here are much more intelligent and eloquent than me and seem to be able to express what I want to say better than I can, I tend to use "This" quite a lot.

I see it as a compliment.

A scrappy 1-0 win will do me very nicely today thanks!
