Quite a strong looking bench, think Clark should be starting instead of Lescott.

Not much point having Gestede in the team without people who can supply him. Amavi's probably the only one with proven delivery there.

Does Traore have his first name on his back or do we all just call him Adama to be cool an'shit.

Not the team id pick. Clark and ayew would be in for me

But worried that might be a diamond against a 352 which would be ridiculous. Hopefully we can change shape if it is

Much stronger looking bench, hopefully Traore and Ayew will come on at sometime.

I'm hoping not and it's Bacuna and Clark to protect a 3 goal lead.

I want our attitude to be right from the start. Get into them and don't let them play. We have to get a goal early and really get their crowd on their backs. Will be good to get our fans singing to Rodgers that he's getting sacked in the morning.

Harsh on Clark and Ayew. Hope Gustede can get amongst them and unsettle them.  For once Villa, please lets have a quick and positive start, they will be nervous and fragile so lets add to that. UTV.

Ayew and Veretout had to start, surely? Instead the garbage that is Westwood and Sanchez pollutes the midfield-they're both crap, slow and limited. Garbage, Sherwood. I hope they turn round and have a stormer, though.

Come on lads!

I too would have had Clark in instead of Lescott. But with the strongest bench we have had for the last few seasons Sherwood can change things around......which worries me a great deal!!

I quite like that line up.
Outwork them in midfield, stifle and frustrate them, and then bring on Adama and Ayew to mix it up later, and provide the width and chances to win the game.

There you go Timmy, it's easy.

It is getting to the point where the little bit of optimism I felt through the summer has long gone now Paulie.

Good to see Milner celebrate so vigorously, just to make me feel a little bit crappier.

They are getting both their full backs to our 18 yard line and beyond time and again. Coutinho is running the game. Knowing they would go 3-5-2 I am a bit surprised we didn't match them up.

Thing is it isn't an emotional wringer.

It's more like being summoned to the school bully without this week's dinner money.

9 times out of 10 you get an almighty kick in the bollocks and you can't really enjoy the occasions it doesn't happen because you know what's waiting next week.

Yep.  We're too deep to be able to use Rudy properly.  Dumb team selection if that was a deliberate tactic.  I'd like to see us press them in their own half more.  Their defenders are very shaky.

For years I've never a known a club to have such shite fucking movement, or almost ALWAYS opt for the most glaringly obvious pass 9 times out of 10. We're so predictable. It's shambolic. Some years we still carried a threat despite being so garishly un-fucking-skilled, but in the last 5 years it's been a complete joke.
Wretched bunch of fucking charlatans posing as footballers. Why does it have to be our club housing the bastards.

Harsh?

I don't care, my kitchen flooded this morning so I'm in a cracking mood and this isn't helping.

Grealish is the only one out there with a semblence of brain, and he was pictured sprawled out on the floor about 3 months ago, sozzled out of his nut. Maybe more of our players need some hippy crack.

Sounds like TS has dropped another bollock with his formation...4141 by the sounds of it allowing them too much time and space in midfield. He needs to change it before its too late to get back into this game.

Got a shit stream running a few minutes behind play so may just see what the score is at full time.

We're terrible at closing down as a team. It's like watching an U10 side, all sprinting around after the player with the ball.

He doesn't do very much in a team which doesn't have the ball. So, the tactic? Start Westwood, and defend deep never having the ball. There's no joined up thinking there at all.

This is the thing: I think TS's ineptitude against Leicester has really dispirited the players - we have exciting, attacking players in the squad and they're not being given their head. We know from the last 5-6 seasons that trying to defend is not enough: we can and have to take the game to the oppo (as we started to against Leicester) otherwise we get pasted.

I've seen enough in this half that despite us being shit and sitting too deep, we're still in this game if we push out and get at them in the second. They are very dodgy at the back.

We need some pace upfront. We're not having possession so need a counter attacking threat.

Playing 5-4-1 with the immobile Gestedeup front, 40 yards from any other Villa player.  Hopeless.
Maybe the transfers guy misunderstood when Sherwood said he wanted Immobile and thought he just wanted immobile?

Neither Grealish or Sinclair are getting anywhere near him. I'd be looking to replace both at half time. Bring on somebody that can actually get involved. It would be a start.

That was the longest 45 minutes I can remember.

Amen brother.  The new TV money has levelled the playing field in terms of finances outside of the top 4/5, so it really is down to who's got a decent manager now.  And it's clear that us, Sunderland and Newcastle have got the bad ones.  Who's going to mourn us with the two North East teams when we do all go down.  We've been stinking out the Premier League for far too long.

But what good manager would come here and work under the same financial constraints of Lambert and Sherwood?

Hopefully someone who could get better out of the players we already have.

I'm not trying to be argumentative, but who?  Lambert was good at Norwich, Sherwood was ok at Spurs, O'Leary did ok at Leeds, the French bloke whose name completely escapes me wasn't too bad before us either.

Sherwood had a managerial career of a few months before he got our job. Woefully under qualified as we are seeing now.

Same mistake, week after week.

Lerner is not free of blame, either, but do you really think Sherwood gets anything like the best out of his players? I don't. Nowhere near it.

Or (in chronological order)

O'Leary. The epitome of a cheque book manager. Clear narcissistic traits as well.

Houllier. Yes very experienced and managed at the highest levels in 2 leagues.
Inherited a squad where the dominant personalities seemed to be sulking over MONster departure and was probably 3 or 4 years past his sell by date.

Lambert. Did a job getting Norwich through the divisions. If he hadn't come to us everyone would have been asking about 2nd season syndrome.

Sherwood. 6 months as emergency cover with someone else's squad. Not exactly a track record.

The only common theme from DOL,TSM II and Sherwood is that they'd only got a record at one club under relatively benign circumstances when coming to us.

I said when we appointed Sherwood that we needed someone who was experienced in dragging clubs kicking and screaming upwards from the sort of death spiral that we seem to be caught in.

My flu ridden brain isn't working quite as it should so please excuse the non chronological order and memory lapse.

Who employed three out of the four managers? That's why I blame Lerner.

I don't think Sherwood is the answer, I didn't want him as our manager, but who is there out there that would come here and do a better job?

With the financial constraints in place we can only hope that one of the up and coming managers we employ actually pans out, so far it hasn't.

Even at  3-2 with them flat we haven't pushed up as a team. They've looked more likely to score again. Weird game management.

Our movement is terrible at times. We give the ball away because players aren't creating angles and showing for the ball. They're hiding.

I'm listening on the radio and Barry Davies is a bit shit these days. Guzman for starters, plus when Adama came on he said "Traore, although he has Adama on the back of his shirt, I wish players would make it clear what they want to be called." The name on the back of his shirt may be a fucking clue you cock socket.

Shame Sherwood didn't take a more attacking approach from the start. We could have won this

His attitude to start games is fucking cowardly. Always worrying about the opponent. It's like Lambert enters his body before kick off.

I actually think it is more often than not the other way around.

He sets us up well to start things, then makes changes which totally fuck it up.

It's both then which proves he doesn't know what he's doing. He lets the their team play their game and we concede. Or like Leicester we start really well and he contrives to fuck it up. I can't work it out. Today we'll lose and we'll all wonder why we didn't play like the last 20 all game.

Difference between us and Leicester - they looked like they believed.  We just haven't pressed them enough since getting that goal back.  They will be really jumpy, we need to go at them.

My only criticism of Adama is that he tries to do too much all by himself particularly when he's running through the middle...he isn't Messi yet.

I've never been a fan, but Lucas has absolutely bossed the game today.

We've been rubbish.

Veretout has done ok since he came on. And Gestede's header was great. Besides that, woeful

This strikes me as the main problem. Sherwood has quite a lot of experience as a talent finder, so his contribution to the signings area of things is unsurprisingly pretty good. The lack of in-game experience is very telling, however.
