I think Baggies will get knocked out at Norwich tomorrow...so if they're out, then second choice would be...ip dip dog shit...Hull or Newcastle at Villa Park.

I wouldn't mind Carlisle at home. It would mean they've knocked out Liverpool plus i've never seen us play Carlisle.

I want a team at Villa Park that will put pressure on the team but we're capable of beating. This team still need to learn about pressure and delivering, especially when 90% of the fans are on your side.

Walsall at home it is then.

The odds on getting eleven home times in a row is one in 2,048.

However, as we've already had ten in a row the odds on getting an eleventh is, as Paulie states, one in two.

As a one-off choice - there are two options home or away - therefore 1 in 2

But there are 2 to 11th power )(=2048) chances of getting 11 homes in a  row

Could be handy if our game is on the Tuesday.

It'll be on the Wed for that very reason. Three days recovery being the norm.

When do we have them in the league, is it around that time? Hate it when that happens, the opposition usually has the measure of you after the first game leading to stalemate.

You can't do much with £12 these days. I'll either go the game or get one of those M&S dine in for two meal deals for £10 that night and bank the other £2.

Without wishing to sound like our nearest friends, can we apply for a bigger allocation if demand is high? Being a cup game and assuming the police don't object and all that?

If it wasn't going to cost me £76 on the train I would be up for this one, especially given the ticket prices are so low. I went to the debacle there last season, and would like to experience some re-balancing.

I'm guessing at "yes". Just been for a look to see when I qualify as I hardly get to many aways these days, and the words "initial allocation" leapt out at me.

des I was actually just thinking that I don't really get why the club are messing about with booking criteria for this one. 3k plus is plenty for 4th round LC at Southampton. It's a bitch of a place to get to from the midlands and back midweek. Why not just put it on general sale? Those that want tickets will get them surely? We'll probably end up returning some I would think.

The last time we played them on a mid-week we sold out [and won] at full price and just over two weeks from Christmas.

Southampton is a very easy drive too. It may be 20 odd miles further than London, but apart from the link with the A34 at Oxford there is very little traffic unless there is a cruise ship in, which being a night game, wont be a problem. No cameras or Five Oh on the M40 either. Its not a bitch to get to at all.

Other similar league cup games of distance saw us take 3500 to Norwich at a similar point in December as the Southampton League game and over 3000 down to Portsmouth.

We will sell this out, at these mates rates prices, nah bother.
Title: Re: League Cup 4th Round - Southampton Away
Post by: john e on October 01, 2015, 11:57:46 AM
due to the current policy of only taking the lowest allocation we only have 1400 for Chelsea,
so i'm thinking we would do well to sell out over 3k on a midweek league cup match

Tickets sorted and hotel booked. It's been a long time since I've done an evening game. Pretty excited, despite how woeful we currently are. When I told my wife we'd be spending a couple of days in Southampton as part of our trip to the UK, the first thing she said was "is there a genuine tourist attraction there, or are the bloody Villa playing?!" Rumbled.

I hope we have a go and play a proper team, whoever's in charge. A cup run can provide a welcome distraction from the pain of league football, as we found out last year. Plus a win would give us a bit of confidence, particularly if it turns out to be Body Garde's first match. We don't have another game until the Monday after so no excuse for playing a load of kids/reserves.

I say go there and have a real good go, play a proper formation with the view to win the game.

Shackles off and just go for it, nothing to lose so play with a bit of flair an creativity.

1-2 villa win, Bacuna free kick and a Kozak header(if they both play that is)

Our luck might just be changing. No Mane for this game and likely to be no Jagielka for the toffees game. Hopefully Lescott might also be injured. Wishful thinking.

Yup. Sherwood came in and did just that and it worked! Then something happened and he changed his mind...now he's out of a job.

I think we'll get beat as Southampton are decent but I'd be happy for us to line up without any novelty selections and see how it goes...

No Richardson, no Lescott, no Westwood, no Gestede, no 5-3-2 and no strikers on the wing please

It will be really interesting to see the first non Sherwood line up and how many of the forgotten get included. I want us to go out and really try and win this. Not be afraid and we have plenty of attacking players in the squad to play that way.

  Adama                      Gil                        Grealish

Thats what I'd like to see, that on paper, and in theory looks a bloody good line up with creativity in abundance, no shortage of movement and a few that are not afraid too get stuck in, my only question mark would be the tracking back of Grealish/Adama to help the full backs but we can deal with that when were 0-3 up.

Veretout in place of Sanchez for me and that's our team for Sat, I'm no great fan of Sanchez although I prefer him to Westwood.  However for Wednesday I might stick Illori, Bunn and Crespo in for Guzan, Richards and Gueye to keep them fresh.  I'd have Kozak and Gardner on the bench also.

I thought he was too far out for the pass, Robbo. He hadn't even reached the box when Gabby shot. Poor positioning or maybe not quite as fast as his teammate.

                                Bunn

Richards       Okore              Clark        Amavi

                    Ayew            Kozak

Bench - Guzan, Bacuna, Ilori, Gardner, Grealish, Sinclair, Gestede

.... for me.
Gil has looked more likely to break down defences that Grealish when he comes on, Kozak is a more natural footballer than Gestede and can hold the ball up, while Ayew has the pace.  Richards has to just suck it up and play where we need him.  Bench has some height, speed, trickery and dead ball skills - depending on what's needed.

I'd be surprised if Bunn doesn't start. He could play himself into the league side like Given did last season.

I think it might be an idea to give Grealish a night off, he's played a lot of games for a young kid and looked off the pace on Saturday.

GK Bunn

RB Crespo
LB Amavi
CB Richards
CB Clark

CM Sanchez
CM Gana Gueye
AM Veretout

RW Traore
CF Gestede
LW Ayew

SUBs Guzan, Okore, Richardson, Gil, Grealish, Agbonlahor, Kozak.

Bacuna Richards Clark Amavi
Gana Gardner Sanchez
Gil Ayew
Kozak

Gabby, Gestede, Grealish, Traore, Crespo, Westwood, Guzan

If we want to start using these creative players properly we need to start building a proper base at the back and the base of midfield - Clark & Gardner need minutes...

I'd go:

                            Guzan

Hutton        Richards       Clark         Richardson

                  Sanchez       Veretout

                              Gana
Sinclair                                            Traore
                            Grealish

Subs: Bunn, Okore, Amavi, Bacuna, Gil, Gestede, Kozak

A pretty solid back four with a fair bit of premiership experience, sitting relatively deep protected by Sanchez and Veretout in front of them, and with pacey outlets down either wing with Sinclair and Traore. Grealish would play at the centre of an attacking diamond with Gana roaming and linking play from defence and Sinclair and Traore cutting in.

Bacuna, Richards, Clark, Amavi in defence.

Bunn in goal.

If the back four tonight is Richards - Okore - Clark - Amavi at long last, i'll be a happy boy

Is Okore fit? He obviously needs match-minutes and probably will feature at somepoint, even if he doesnt start.

I think we have to have 2 deep lying midfielders with 1 in front tonight or we will be walked through and never have the ball. As such I would go

Bunn

Richards
Okore
Clark
Amavi

Gueye
Sanchez
Vertout

Traore
Grealish
Ayew

And then a few blokes on the bench.

I've had the day off, so setting off soon from West Dorset with my son to meet up with other South Coast based Villa fans before the game.  One of those I'm meeting up with I went to the European Cup Final with and also stood next to him at Highbury on the day we won the league. How times have changed. Maybe this will be the evening when we start the very long road back to the top! Up the Villa!!

Could do with the lads rolling their sleeves up and putting in a shift tonight. As pointed out earlier, a cup run is never bad for morale and could help us out of this hole we are in

You need to get yourself back over to the Sherwood thread, I answered your question but you conveniently chose to ignore the answer. You know, about you making stuff up?

Arrived in Southampton yesterday evening. Was naturally pumped for this, but the fact that it's a sell-out has just added to it all. Massive respect to both supporters and huge credit to Southampton's board/marketing team/whoever's responsible for setting the prices at a very appealing £12.

I'll be in the Joshua Tree pub quite early this afternoon with the wife, if anyone wants to join us - she's the one with Aussie accent!

UTV
We hope to be there by about 6, MV.
Should be a good few in by then so can you ask your good lady to sing loudly so we can identify the accent. There might be a pint in it for you both!

Come on you Villa boys!

UTV!

Would be very happy with that, the only possible change i'd make is Gil for Traore

Careful, he'll come up with some witty, withering put down and then invite you for a night out in Nechells.

Playing Clark and Okore together is a big risk as both will lack match fitness.  I'd stick with Richards there alongside Clark.  Please no to Nzog - surely we have enough options now to forget about this journeyman?  Hope Kozak gets a run out.

Plus the fact that the pair of them got fucking murdered the last time we played there.

Come on Villa, win this and we have a snifter of a chance of winning the thing, they have 3 forwards out and may rest a lot of players, which should mean we have a chance.

From what I can see the options are Radio WM (FM only, not online).  Jack "bring back Teletext" Woodward for AVTV subscribers and text commentary for non-subscribers.  Oh and here.  My usual streaming site which gets most things isn't covering it, that usually only happens when it's not being shown on TV anywhere.

Highlights on Channel 5 at 11pm.

My options are Jack or radio WM on TuneIn.
