Time to bounce back.
-
Fuckin fuck the fuckers!
-
Us 3 Them 0
Traore 13
Lescott 49
Agbonlahor 77
-
0-0 I'm afraid.
-
3-1 Villa. Gabby, Grealish, Ayew late on.
-
3-1 Villa. Gabby, Grealish, Ayew late on.
It would be great to see Ayew score-settle him down a little bit.
-
2-0 win.
-
1-1, much wailing and gnashing prompting the Gnasher himself to return. Heh.
-
We all know Pulis is going to park the bus and play for a draw so just hope we have the guile to break down their back 10. They are well drilled so we need to be more creative to open them up and stop being so sloppy with our final balls and finishing. If Gueye and Traore play then we win comfortably...if not, it could end up being another frustrating afternoon.
You owe the fans after last weekends capitulation so a well deserved 3-0 and 3pts would do nicely please Tim.
-
Unfortunately I think we are due a loss against them. If that happens I will go into full on self pitying meltdown. Just warning everyone in advance. It might be an even better idea than normal to skim past my posts. ;D
-
I assume Bacuna won't play RB , Gana will be back with Traore .
Will he drop Guzan ?? I would.
Bunn
Hutton Richards lescott amavi
Gana sanchez
Sinclair Grealish
Gabby Traore
2-0 home win.
-
we'll take the lead, extend the lead, and keep the lead. 2-0 Sinclair and Traore.
-
We'll win somehow. Could be a nail biter or a rout, I've given up trying to predict villa scores now.
-
Score and we won't lose the game. Score more than one and we will win.
-
2-0
Sinclair
Gil
-
I don't know how to add a poll, if a mod could do it that'd be very nice, thanks.
& fuck the fuckers, 4-1 Villa.
-
I think this is the most nailed on goalless draw ever. Tiny will set them up to play for a point and will keep at least 12 men behind the ball at all times.
-
Local Baggies are running scared that we will have the pace and trickery to get past their bus. Despite their half-hearted attempts at mickey-taking about the weekend result they recognised how well we played for an hour...
Villa win - by two whole goals for a change!
-
1-0 win. Sinclair with the goal
-
Honestly have no idea any more. 1-1
-
Can't see them scoring so it's a win if we can score.
-
Bold I know, but I am going for 4-1 the Villa.
Hopefully:
Guzan
Hutton Richards Lescott Amavi
Sanchez Gueye
Adama Gil Grealish
Sinclair
-
0-0 or 1-1 local derby.
-
The pessimist in me sees this week being the inverse of our catalysing two WBA matches last year. So while those wins jumpstarted our season, I have a horrible feeling this time round we'll have a deflating defeat or draw, to put the season on a downward trend.
I really hope this doesn't happen of course, and that the players stay focussed and composed and do their jobs. I wish I was more optimistic but I'm still angry about Sunday.
-
Think we'll go into the lead at some point but then bizarre substitutions by Timbo will leave us at 1-1.
-
4-0 cue much whining about them "not 'avin no luck" etc.
-
I think this game is Guzan's last chance. Mistake here and Bunn will be in against the Blues and given a couple of games to stake a claim.
-
For some reason I think we will knob these steptoes big time, 2/3-0 win for the villa boys.
-
If we can defend for 90 and make substitutions correctly we should win because Albion aren't very adventurous. In fact they are boring as fuck
-
I'll go for a 2-1 win with Sinclair and Gabby getting the goals
Would like to see us line up Guzan, Hutton, Richards, Lescott, Amavi, Gana, Sanchez, Grealish, Gil, Sinclair, Agbonlahor with Bunn, Bacuna, Clark, Westwood, Traore, Ayew, Gestede/Veretout on the bench
-
We'll win. Will TS drop Guzan? I think he should.
-
Boring boring Pulls will wet his pants if they keep a clean sheet. I'm goin 1-0 with a 2 yard screamer from Sinclair.
-
I think it would be funny if Lescott gets the winner
-
Score and we won't lose the game. Score more than one and we will win.
Hopefully, unless they go into second half melt down like last week
-
2-0 Sinclair & Gabby.
-
He can't drop Guzan.Due to not buying in a decent replacement when the squad was being overhauled in the summer.BIG mistake.
-
Villa 2, the stripey filth 0. Gestede and Sinclair.
-
I'd quite like to see Crespo given a go at right-back and Veretout, if Gil isn't 100%. I'd go with;
Guzan; Crespo, Richards, Lescott, Amavi; Westwood, Gueye, Veretout; Sinclair, Grealish, Agbonlahor.
-
He can't drop Guzan.Due to not buying in a decent replacement when the squad was being overhauled in the summer.BIG mistake.
I'd get Steer back myself
-
2 2 Westwood and Gabby to score it should keep Gabby in the Team a Bit longer
-
I really hope Adama can feature in this game.
-
I think we will get a 1-0 win.
-
Us 4 Them 1. We're due to give someone a shoeing, so as i'm probably not going, it will be Saturday.
-
We need to learn not to drop points from winning positions or where we look comfortable in games. Sunderland was the most one sided draw ever, and Leicester was a straightforward victory once we got to 2-0. A disciplined approach would have killed off the game. So that's 4 points we've blown and instead of 15th we would be sitting nicely in the top part f the table. I think we will win this game because Albion are just a bland park the bus side.

There's no guarantee that would worked or indeed stopped the mistake that led to them getting their first goal. In hindsight it's probably what he should have done off course.

3-0 villa. Lescott Sinclair gabby
-
Thought this was 4pm super Sunday ?
-
Thought this was 4pm super Sunday ?
What made you think that? Has a team ever had that fixture for 2 consecutive weeks...?
-
So that's 4 points we've blown and instead of 15th we would be sitting nicely in the top part f the table.
It's actually 5pts dropped in last 2 games. I'm sure TS and the players are as unhappy about that statistic as much as we are.
-
Thought this was 4pm super Sunday ?
What made you think that? Has a team ever had that fixture for 2 consecutive weeks...?
I bet Man U have. I'm glad it's not Sunday though given we'd only have a couple of days before Blose.
-
After the shonkiness of last Sunday, I feel we deserve a cathartic trouncing led by a pumped-up Adama Traore and Jack Grealish.
-
Do you know what? I am rarely confident ahead of games, particularly in recent years tackling the Pulis anti football, but I reckon the Leicester game will serve as a massive kick up the arse and we will marmalise them on Saturday.
4-1 Villa.
-
Let's all make sure the atmosphere is as good as the quarter final
Then we will " fuck the olbyun"
For sure
-
Must win - no excuses ...
Don't care how many or who scores ...
Fuck the olbyun.....
-
Anything but a win against Albion Nil would set the alarm bells ringing at deafening levels. I don't care by how much or how ugly. I want a win. As an aside, we've scored in every game except the one against Man U. We've only won once. What does that tell us?
-
Don't care how we win as long as we win!
-
2-0 Lescott, Sinclair.
-
After Sunday I don't believe anything good will ever happen again. Not that I'm over-dramatic or anything.
-

4-1 Villa.
I'm with anyone who brings back the word marmalise.
Sir, I like the cut of your jib!
-
1-1.
Think we used up our luck in this game last season.
-
We are due a win...but I said that against Sunderland and Leicester...so we're now officially overdue a win. What can go wrong?!
If we can't beat this bunch of shit then we are in trouble, so I'm still going 3-0 Villa.
edit: the only thing that can go wrong is failing to break them down and they grab a goal from a set piece...we really need to be more creative and clinical in the final third of the pitch this weekend.
-
Oh go on then. Lescott in front of the Holte and Sinclair to wrap up a 2.0 win. Any win will do though.
-
If Tim has learn't from last week, we will rip them to bits 3-0.
-
--------------Guzan
Hutton, Richards, Clark, Amavi
----Sanchez, Gueye/Westwood
Veretout, Grealish, Sinclair
-------------Gestede-----------
no Bacuna, Gabby or Ayew please
-
1-1.
Think we used up our luck in this game last season.
What luck?
-
1-1.
Think we used up our luck in this game last season.
What luck?
The luck that should have had us four up at half time.
-
All clubs fans probably say the same but I always think of us as really unlucky what with jammy deflections and shit ref decisions against us. I can barely remember many games where we've been battered and sneaked a win because of something flukey or a ball going in off someones arse 2 yards offside.
-

When was the last time we scored a deflected goal?

Palace a few weeks ago.

I think we'll lose both Saturday and Tuesday, and my phone will be smashed against a wall by Saturday night.
With the Internet bound to be out of action too next week I've planned ahead and just booked the train tickets for Liverpool next Saturday.
My favourite months of the year are June and July when I turn into a hippie and have no worries in the world.
-
1-1.
Think we used up our luck in this game last season.
Huh?
-
I think we'll nick it...but I think we'll concede.
I'd go for 2-1
--------------Guzan
Hutton, Richards, Lescott, Amavi
----------Gueye, Westy
------Sinclair, Gil, Grealish
------------Gabby
Let me explain. Gueye in will give Westwood a little more license to create and move forward into the ball. Gana will do this too, but I think the two compliment each other better than the other combinations including Sanchez.
I'd include the same front 4 as Leicester as Gabby seems to be the ONLY attacking player we have to stretch a defence, and run into channels. Sinclair does it too, but he also is adept at operating on the wing and roaming. Gestede for me will only be worth playing when we are up against a team against whom we are in total control. He gives nothing going backwards, and nothing in behind. That fdorces creativity to be on point, and we have 2 young players, 1 of which is really still learning the game full stop, and one who doesn't have a lot of minutes under his belt in the premier league, in Gil. It's asking a lot for them to be on top for 90 minutes.
Traore can come on for Sinclair, Gil, or Grealish, Veretout can come on for Westy if we're on top, or Sanchez can come on to beef up the midfield. Finally, Ayew needs to get some minutes, and if we're cruising, I might look to sacrifice Sinclair for him.
I must stress this. I understand the criticism Gabby has gotten based on the squad we have, but he is STILL the only forward we have that can break lines and go in behind the defence to not only attempt to create an opening for himself/others, but also alleviate any stress our defence is under at the time. We saw that when Gestede came on at Leicester. He became the reason we were camped in our own half as he couldn't stretch the play.
So, 2-1, Sinclair and Richards (set piece) for me, and sorry for the long post :)
-

I've seen nothing from us this season that would make me think we will lose to a long ball 2nd division side and an anti football, bully boy, boring as fuck side who are the opposite of free scoring, at home, twice, in a few days.
They're both shit and we should stop talking them up. We've looked ok this season, just need a few tweaks, with a bit of luck and nous we could have had a lot more pts this season so far than we've got. We are a complete different beast to the sack of shit side we were last year.
Those two nothing clubs are going to get fecked by us over the next week.
-
1 win in our last 7 makes me nervous that if we don't go in ahead at half time, we could end up succumbing to something like a crap set piece late on and lose 1-0.
-
We should be beating these, Pulis will go out for the draw as usual, Guzan, Richards Lescott Clark Amavi Gueye Westwood Gil Sinclair Grealish Gabby has to be the team for me. 2-0 Villa Sinclair and Lescott goalscorers.
-
sinclair and lescott 2-0
obvs
-
We are a complete different beast to the sack of shit side we were last year.
We're not completely different pal. We are showing the same air of defensive frailties and mental instabilities that linger around a team with no winning mentality. Obviously it's easy to say the only way we get this is by winning, but that's not easy in this league.
The shining light for me is that the players we're brought in, for the most part, are used to winning. That should help long term.
WBA are, unfortunately still a decent team when it clicks and in Rondon we have a live-wire to contend with.
-
Albion are shit. They've scored 3 goals this season, only one when the opposition had 11 players on the pitch.
-
They look woeful inadequate going forwards though. 9 man Stoke created more.
I'd bring Hutton in at full back and Veretout if Gil is out. Have him in front of Westwood and Sanchez (unless Gana is fit) and push Grealish and Sinclair wide in a three with Gabby.
-

That's my worry in a way. We'll probably let them score a couple past us.
I've seen them 3 times this season. They played well in the 2nd half against Chelsea. Other that that, they've looked dire.
-
The only chance Olbiyun have got is if we freeze, and we have to many experienced players for that to happen, havent we?
-
sadly not.
-
Time to get our season going. Mistakes learnt from, hopefully one or two back from injury.
Twat these.
3-1.
-
Got a stinker of a cold which started yesterday, so for once i'm quite glad I hadn't bought a ticket yet for Saturday.
-
If we're playing with Gil in the midfield 3 again, i think we have to drop Westwood for either Geuye or Veretout
He left Sanchez completely exposed last week and is merely a passenger when we're not in possession. He's just not quite good enough for me.

This was highlighted by Neville on MNF, we lacked solidity when 2-1 up when we should have had our 2 CMs sat in, protecting the back four. Ideally Gueye and Sanchez if both are fit, if not then Veretout and Sanchez should start.
-
This was highlighted by Neville on MNF, we lacked solidity when 2-1 up when we should have had our 2 CMs sat in, protecting the back four.
It was also highlighted by every Villa fan watching on Sky and in the away end in the Leicester ground. Even those that were three sheets to the wind from pre match lager were more tactically astute than Sherwood.
-
Need to win this. Their only real chances will come from set pieces so as long as we're solid at the back and play like we did in the first half at Leicester we 'll take the points.
As an aside, how absolutely hilarious was it when I took my dog for a walk on Monday and my neighbour popped out to say 'mind you don't lose your lead'. No, I didn't think so either
-
Completely agree CJ. Just bumped into a Baggies supporting Tesco worker whilst doing a shop (oh the irony!) and he was feeling optimistic for a win on the basis of our collapse last weekend and reckons Pulis wont make the same mistakes of sitting back like he did last season...I'd be very surprised if Pulis does anything else other than park the bus personally so my only concern is whether or not we can break that down.
I sincerely doubt TS and the players will capitulate again (so soon after last weekend at least), and they should be in the mindset to build on the good parts of our performance and secure 3pts. If we can be more ruthless and clinical in front of the goal then some teams are going to be on the wrong end of a good twatting...lets hope the next 2 games are good examples.
-
Me too, I doubt Albion can score from open play, but I would hate to see Villa nerves start to show and performance levels drop if we are put under pressure again. That is one Lambert habit that still needs to be exorcised.
-
Home win.
-
1-1.
Think we used up our luck in this game last season.
What luck?
The luck that should have had us four up at half time.
Very true.
Luck maybe I meant the breaks ast in the first game it was petering out in a 1-1 draw and think it was Bacuna who hit the shot which Foster should've easily saved but he parried and then came flying out at Lowton and took him down for the penalty.
The cup game. I watched it again a few weeks later and was surprised how much went for us at key moments, completely forgot Brown Ideye missed a sitter infront of the Holte at 0-0 which would've changed things as Pulis teams are nightmares to beat once leading, then Lescott missed a free header from a corner at 1-0 and then they had Yacob harshly sent off just after (although Grealish was also an equally harsh red).
Blimey I sound like one of theirs bleatting on like that but I just think we got breaks at crucial times in the two home games last season (not that I cared at the time) and I just worry there's a sting in the tail in this game.
-
Last weeks shocker will mean we react and win the nexf 2
That's football

Didn't West Brom with the league that year? Early 20s anyway I think.

I was at the game but personally hadn't noticed Westwood's positioning as a problem. I had a problem with a striker Ayew replacing an ACM Gil, I wanted Veretout or Richardson on as a third CM. I also thought we were playing ourselves in to trouble with stupid passes (Bacuna across his own box almost) for one example.
-
Once Ayew came on we lost all shape and composure .
-
Sounds like Gueye's unlikely to play tomorrow (apparently he's only back in training today) which is a blow. Neither Gil or Traore have trained either. I reckon it'll be;
Guzan; Crespo, Richards, Lescott, Amavi; Sanchez, Westwood; Grealish, Veretout, Sinclair; Agbonlahor
Bunn, Clark, Bacuna, Gueye, Richardson, Ayew, Gestede
-
Not watching this one so that guarantees a 4-0 win.
-
Injury news update:
Tim Sherwood has revealed that Jores Okore is back in full training.
Okore hasn't played since having an operation on his knee this summer.
The Danish centre-half has been rehabbing but returned to the fields of Bodymoor Heath this week.
The boss is delighted to see the likeable starlet out working with the players again at the training base.
But he also warned that the defender is at least a month away from donning the claret and blue shirt again in competitive action.
Sherwood also revealed that Idrissa Gana should train today for the first time since injuring his hamstring on international duty with Senegal.
But the manager may not risk him for the West Brom derby game this weekend.
Sherwood revealed that Adama Traore and Carles Gil are both yet to train ahead of the West Brom encounter.
But he hasn't given up on having the pair available for the Baggies clash.
Surely you can't risk Gueye, Traore or Gil if they haven't trained this week. Suddenly not feeling too confident that we'll have enough creativity or quality to break through the bus.
-

I reckon that personnel too, but Hutton not crespo. 4312 I reckon. Hopefully one of the three injury doubts can play tho as that would make a real difference creativity wise.
-
Yeah I was thinking the same simply on the basis that we dont have many other options, but it would be the 442 diamond. What concerns me about lineup is that we dont much much width and we'll be crowded out in the middle of the park...this could be a game where he pushes Sinclair and Gabby out wide with crosses into Gestede.

It was that year, but the previous season. They won the league, we won the cup.
It goes without saying that the cup was more prestigious in those days.
Albion finished fourteenth the year after their title-winning campaign.
-

I can barely remember many games where we've been battered and sneaked a win because of something flukey or a ball going in off someones arse 2 yards offside.
This was crystalised for me last season, when Sunderland picked up 6 points in the run in playing worse than even we had under Lambert.
I was fucking furious.
-
talking about luck, we seem to have lots of bad luck regarding injuries and this has been a problem for a bloody long time now, i think since the MON days when he ran the same players into the ground until they collapsed in March.
-
I'd rather we didn't risk all the doubtful ones tomorrow and got them ready for Tuesday instead as I think fresh legs will help us beat the Blue scum
-

I'd rather we did and got 3 points. The 3rd Round Cup can take care of itself, regardless of who we're playing.
-

It can't just be bad luck though. Either our physios are crap, or they're more careful letting our players play, compared to other teams.

from dabeeb...
West Brom head coach Tiny Penis: "Derby matches are fantastic games to be involved in and wonderful occasions.
"The disappointing thing last year was the crowd trouble and I hope and pray both sets of supporters go there tomorrow and really respect football. That's what it's really about, two teams going head to head and giving it everything."
blimey why does he have to bring this up again ? Crowd trouble ???.....ours running on the pitch believing the final whistle had gone and their's throwing broken seats on to the supporters below...

Really?! He's pretty active on the touchline, but you'd rather trust our goalkeeping coach rather than our manager or assistant manager to decide our substitutions?

Holte is full. Looking at the OS I'd guess the attendance will be around 37k, maybe slightly higher after walk-ups.

Certainly over Tactics Tim , yes.

Oi sillhillvilla have you finished trawling through my posts yet or are you going to admit you just make stuff up in an attempt to back up whatever ludicrous point it is you're trying to make?

Eh ? I've questioned Sherwood on his subs
Not a controversial point IMHO
-
I think we're more likely to see Gueye make an appearance than Gil or Traore tomorrow...
Guzan
Hutton Richards Lescott Amavi
Sanchez
Westwood Gueye
Grealish
Gabby Sinclair
Despite being 442, the formation will rotate between 4321 and 4231.
-
I'd go
bunn
Hutton Richards Lescott Amavi
Sanchez
Vertout Gueye
Grealish
Gabby Sinclair

Good find. I've always thought that the Villain character was a Norman Edwards invention. Live and learn.
-
Ah I see you have Parks doing our goalkeeping substitutions already! ;)
I'm not sure TS trusts Veretout at the moment but I would agree that he should come on in the second half to firm up the midfield and I dont think he should play Gueye for 90 minutes if theres any question marks over his injury.

Agree, bring Gana on in 65th minute when we are 2 up and take Gabby off

Well we have to see how the game is going before deciding substitutions...scoreline, fitness, injuries and tactics are all things to be considered. Gabby will probably play the full 90 minutes as we may well need an out ball through the channels if we start to invite pressure in the second half...he's still a better option than Gestede and Ayew. If one of the midfield is struggling then I'd like to think he's learned his lesson and bring on Veretout, Richardson or Clark.

I'd like to see Kozak feature at some point tomorrow
-
I'd be surprised if he even makes the squad...reports suggest he was pretty crap in the U21s the other day even though he did score the penalty.

That's what he does though - scores goals . That's why I'd place him ahead of Gestede and Ayew

2-0 Sinclair 56, Gestede 77
Routine win & on to the next one!

Oi sillhillvilla have you finished trawling through my posts yet or are you going to admit you just make stuff up in an attempt to back up whatever ludicrous point it is you're trying to make?
Eh ? I've questioned Sherwood on his subs
Not a controversial point IMHO
No. You seemed pretty certain I spend my time in here ripping the piss out of Manchester United supporters and said you were going through my posts to prove it. That was over a week ago and I'm still waiting for you to find something that I know you won't find.
Or are you going to admit you just make stuff up?

On my phone today so trawling through your old posts is difficult but I will get back to you .
Shall we give it until 5.00pm today and then perhaps you could admit you were wrong, apologise for calling me a hypocrite and then move on?
I still haven't found what I'm looking for ;)
Apologies for calling you a hypocrite . (I will try and have another look later though) .
-
A sincere apology then

Apology accepted although the U2 reference didn't go unnoticed.

The apology for calling me a hypocrite was accepted but you indicated you were still looking for something I know isn't there but you seem convinced is.

I'm not sure the foreign tv companies bother with the league cup, but as it's on Sky you should pick up a dodgy feed from somewhere

I'm taking two live games in today
Newort Pagnell Jaguars under 8's V Mortonville Junior Rangers under 8's
followed by the Villa v WBA match
I wonder which one will bring me the most joy

C'Mon Villa. Match days finally here. Get my 1st beer in 44 minutes! Can't wait. Let's see these pretenders off back into their mud huts liking their wounds after being mauled by the Lions. Can't wait

Afternoon chaps, anyone know if i can get a ticket on the door today? Extensive booking history etc, didn't plan on going this afternoon but a late change of circumstances means I can watch those stripey bastards save our season again. Hopefully.

After 15 minutes on hold its not looking like a sellout. So see you there.
