Assuming that this is still a bit too soon for Jack & Gil

Brad

McCafu Richards Clark Amavi

Sanchez, Westwood, Gana

Traore, Gabby, Sinclair

Subs: Bunn, Baker, Bacuna, Richardson, Veretout, Ayew, Gestede

EDIT - However, if I was picking the team, I'd have Gestede starting and Kozak on the bench (no Gabby)

We are usually awful there but last year won when we were crap. Palace are five point five times as good now though and we're still starting over so I don't get good vibes from this.

We are a bit disjointed at the minute. Gestade needs to start. 2-0 Palace.

After seeing them on MOTD this season, from the highlights, they look quite good going forward (admittedly this is only highlights though). Based on that, it'll be tough.

Time to properly leave Gabby out, not even on the bench, and start with Gestede.

I want to see us attacking teams like we did the back end of last season. I don't want it going the way it did after Lambert seemed to get us attacking only for us to completely change the start of the next season. We haven't really attacked a great deal in our first two matches. Hopefully this is just new players coming together.

a tough game at the best of times and they are even stronger than last year.....it's not Palace's fault, but I fucking detest Pardew so 9 nil to the Villa and we wipe his smug arsed grin off his face.

Palace's attacking intent has been more impressive than ours in the first two games, but every match is different
I'm hoping for at least a draw from this fixture

Palace will be a tough game at there place, so 1-1 Richards to score.

To use a well worn H&V phrase, it's about time we absolutely f¤¤ked these f¤¤kers and gave Pardew some shit to chew on for his shit eating grin as a side bonus.

2-0 Gestede with a towering header and Ayew to spoon an intended cross field pass into the net from 40 yards out making it look Saunders' goal against Ipswich.

I think we are going to see Adama come on and score the winning goal with a Dalian Atkinson type Wimbledon screamer , then walk over to Pardew and say 'eat shit motherfucker'. in Spanish and French.

Although Pardew is the smuggest manager with one of the most punchable faces in football, he's got them playing well and they're hard to beat. I'd take a point. 1-1

Tough game. But it will be a fast open game. Villa specs on we'll win 2-1, a draw won't be a bad result.

This will be a difficult one and a draw will be a great result. If we are very lucky, we can play a fast counter-attacking game and win.

I'll go for a 2-1 win...Gestede and Sinclair for us, Ian Wright for them.

Our new players are going to wonder whats going on...apart from playing at the magnificent Villa Park, they've played at arguably the 2 worst away grounds in the PL.

This is a big test for us and possibly the hardest game so far. All things considered I'd be happy with a draw, but unless Traore plays then I don't see us offering anything going forward again...in which case we'll lose.

I think we are a better away side and hence I see us winning this 1-0.
My logic.
Palace will fancy this and will be quite offensive in their play, I think we can repel their attacks and play counter attack quite well . The players especially the new boys I think will also be less nervous and more expansive in their play away from B6 for a few weeks.
Title: Re: Crystal Palace v Aston Villa - Pre Match Thread

We might get a result with the following lineup...

Guzan

Bacuna - Richards - Clark - Amavi

Westwood - Gueye

Traore - Grealish - Sinclair

Ayew

Ayew really needs to be played centrally and could receive the right service if Grealish and Traore are playing...a goal will give some much needed confidence. Gestede, Veretout and Sanchez clearly aren't match fit so give them some game time in second half.

Quote
Tim Sherwood says Jack Grealish could be in contention for the Crystal Palace game this weekend.

Grealish has been out all pre-season with a hamstring injury - and missed matches against Bournemouth and Man Utd with the troublesome problem.

But the influential midfielder returned to action this week in the 1-0 U21s victory over Derby County, scoring the winning goal at St George's Park.

Sherwood is thinking of bringing the 19-year-old into the squad for the trip to Selhurst Park.

Carles Gil, meanwhile, will be assessed after coming off late on in the Rams clash.

The Spaniard hasn't been involved since picking up an ankle problem in the Swindon pre-season encounter.

But he, like Grealish, returned to action against the Rams.

However, he was substituted late on with tightness in his groin.

Countryman Jose Angel Crespo, meanwhile, is progressing well in his return to fitness, after pulling up early on in the Nottingham Forest pre-season match.

Jores Okore is back in very light training, after an operation on his knee in the summer.

The boss told AVTV: "The Derby match was a good workout for the boys.

"They need games - the lads who haven't been playing. It was a good fitness exercise first and foremost.

"I thought Jack was very good. He played to the last minute. He looked fit enough to maybe be up for selection this weekend.

"Carles came off with a tight groin which is an indication the lack of training he has actually done. He will get fitter.

"Jores is not fit yet. But he is out there running.

"Jose is still not fit. He picked up a groin problem a few minutes into the Nottingham Forest game.

"It is disappointing for him - and the rest of us. But he won't be too far away.

"Overall, we're quite healthy."

I was away for about 4 weeks in the summer, when I came back we had a new team of players I'd never heard of and Palace had somehow turned into the Sarf Of the River Brazil.

It's all a bit 'team of the 80's' to me.

So I fly back to England on the 18th, spend a couple of days with my family. I then have to go to Europe on business on Sunday, so stopping in Gatwick on the Saturday....my mates sons, who are season ticket holders, have got me a ticket for the match so a very easy journey from Gatwick to Selhurst. When i do come back I always try and get to watch the Villa...they tell me they would rather go with me than their dad, as they always lose when he's there lol....hopefully a Villa win 2-1 but a draw will do.

Would be very happy with a point from this, Palace were excellent against Arsenal. That said their home record since Pardew took over is nothing to write home about although Cabaye will give them more nous in possession.

2-2.

I would start Gabby still, he will hold it up and run in behind which the others I don't trust to do yet. They are not quick at the back and Arsenal walked past them with mundane pace last week back there. I would also get Grealish into the side behind Gabby, and leave Ayew and Sinclair on the bench to come on with Gestede. Grealish can play a pass in ways no one else in the squad can, and Ozil was continually left in acres of space last week playing between midfield and attack. Sanchez, Westwood, Gueye and Veretout in the middle with Vertout supporting Grealish. Palace will play with a lot of width, so the extra holding midfielder should help double up on the wide man too.

That would also give us Traore, Sinclair, Ayew and Gestede to bring on as options towards the end. But nullifying them and playing on the counter is the best option at their place.

I want us to really go for it. We've been a bit too defensive in the first two games. We can have attacking intent and still be responsible at the back. We lack a cutting edge so I hope Sherwood picks a side and employs a system designed more to create more chances, take more shots, and score goals.

A draw would set us up nicely for the Sunderland match - Palace will be all guns blazing which may leave room for our tricksy-footed forwards to puncture their celebratory balloon and leave Pardew a smirk-free zone 1-1

A bad time to be playing what looks like a good crystal palace team.

Expect to see us bounce back against Sunderland.

If Traore plays, we'll win. They wont know how to handle him, and he'll be full of confidence.
Someone in the midfield (Sanchez?) needs to be told his main job is to stop Cabaye anytime he gets the ball, and track his runs towards the box.

Might be a little lightweight with Gil and Westwood but I think with Libor up top it will be strong up front, Cabeye ain't gettin stuck in anyway. Why isn't Kozak getting picked by anyone? He knows how to score and difficult to defend. If he runs out of gas it's not like we don't have other attacking options.

Traore on for Jack or Sinclair at 65. Rudy on for Libor when necessary. Sanchez on for Gil when we're up one, squeaky bum.

2-1 Victoryyy! Jack and Rudy.

Traore should start. Gil is most likely injured again so Grealish would be an excellent link in the centre. Sinclair has looked half decent working with Amavi down the left. Bacuna has started RB the first 2 games and is currently a better option than Hutton.

I like that too. Only possible change I would consider would be to put Sanchez and Gueye as our defensive midfielders, bring in Veretout to allow him to play to his strengths in the more advanced midfield role and obviously dropping Westwood.

Defensively we'd be more solid, strong in midfield and in attack we'd threaten left, right and centre.

I can't see us spending £40 million on Altidore and then not picking him. Your team isn't very realistic.

You added an extra '4' there.

Tough game and I would be happy with a point. Could be a big test for Bacuna and Amavi if their wide players are on their game.

Just the type of opposition we've struggled against the last few seasons, compact and well drilled, nothing fancy just meat and potatoes washed down with pop versus our gruel and boiled cabbage.  Palace remain the same meat and potatoes side but we now offer fine dining options and an extensive wine list.

Villa to smash the minnow club.

Imagine a front two of Altidore and Altidore.

I watched him a couple of weeks ago for Toronto FC. Fucking shit is being rather polite in describing his performance and certainly in regard to his miss from 2 yards out with a gaping net to head at with his side down 2-1. I'd say he's found his level in MLS but I'd be lying.

For me it's more our record there that makes me think a point would be decent. Before last season we'd failed to win in our last 11 visits and our full record there, as far as I can tell, is W3 D9 L7.
And all 3 wins have been 1-0.

I can't see them playing Adama, as Sid said it might take a while for him to get up to speed to the English league.

Not happy with Guzan starting near the corner flag.

See this is what happens when some fans start to believe the second set of goalposts sometimes seen on the pitch before the game used for warm up is the real one. All of a sudden formations are established and we wonder then why teams are scoring in to the open net when the game commences. It's particularly concerning when our goalkeeper forgets as Brad did versus Man City away last season.

"Interesting press conference today. The Adebayor rumours once again get scotched, there's nothing doing there. Grealish and Carles Gil are both available for the Palace game.

"But today Tim Sherwood was playing down expectations around Adama Traore. He signed for £7m but the Villa boss says he's a 'development project' - not really one for this season. I must admit I thought he'd be playing at some stage but Sherwood today said 'I don't want people to think he's the saviour of Aston Villa'

I think we'll see Grealish, Gil and Adama all start against County, probably behind Ayew, I expect Veretout and Sanchez in midfield as well.

I hope 1 of Grealish or Gil starts tomorrow and the other and possible Adama make the bench, we need to see how we look up front with the creative players in behind.
