I'm flying back to the UK for my sisters wedding at the end of the month. Bournemouth away was the worst possible, opening fixture due to the small allocation of tickets and distance (I have to attend an additional family event that evening). So, my fix comes in the form of the last pre-season game in Nottingham. A few beers along the River Trent in the sunshine(?!) pre-match. Who else is going and which pubs should I head to? It was over 20 years ago the last time I went to the City Ground!

I always go to the one just over the bridge on the right hand side (coming from the train station side) forget the name but its good on a sunny day.
Alternatively there is one right next to the cricket ground but that is normally packed.
If you get there early there are some great ones in town - Ye Olde Trip To Jerusalem, Bell Inn, The Malt Cross (My favourite - old victorian music hall) and there is the canal house near the train station.
I've got a brother and a brother-in-law in nottingham, thats why I know the establishments!
Shame I don't drink!

Nottingham's definitely up there as one of the top drinking towns in the country. However the Vat & Fiddle, nowhere near the station and definitely not on the way to the ground, is appaling. It is NOT brilliant and will NOT be packed full of Villa.

I went to a pre-season friendly against them a few years ago and really liked a pub in the town centre. It was called something like the Pit and the Pendulum and was a bit of a rocky pub.

Yes I know it, it's okay in there, music was better than your average city centre pub and the beer was decent as well.

I've been in there. It was a horror themed pub, hence the name with the toilet behind a bookcase and spooky named spirits etc type thing.
