Boldmere 1-1 Villa U21 – HT: It’s all level in this pre-season friendly at the break. Villa have dominated proceedings and took the lead on nine minutes as Callum O’Hare fired home from close range to finish off a crisp attacking move. The home side were level five minutes later. Stuart Capaldi’s fierce drive gave stopper Charlie Bannister no chance from 25 yards. Villa had opportunities to regain the lead through Jerell Sellars and Corey Blackett-Taylor.
-
Ended 3.1 to Villa.
Stand out player for me was Sid's lad who was neat and tidy in most things he did, Kinsella the left back also looked promising. Of the rest no one really stood out and the lack of the ability to keep posession was disappointing.

OK, so that narrows it down to 2 clubs, although I guess we talking about those that have their own Den.
-
Yeah, sorry. Didn't make myself clear!
They lost 2-1 today to London Bees. Apparently that's not a rugby team.
-
Sounds like we have some good young players, going by pre-season. Besides Jack, does anybody expect anyone to feature regularly in the first team squad this season or do you think a good few will be going out on loan?

If Green is as quick as I've been led to believe I think he'll break through before long. Not sure after that, we seem to have a lot of players who are on the cusp of being too good for reserves but not ready for the premier league. I think we might see a lot of loans out in August, hopefully with a fair few going to the championship.
-
Green's one I've not heard mentioned this pre-season. I think there will be a lot of loan moves, as Sherwood did that at Spurs, but his previous work suggests that one or two might breakthrough quite quickly.

No he's not been involved, I wonder if he's injured because it would be odd to bring a kid into the squad at the end of the season and then have nothing to do with him in pre-season. From the reports on here, and from friends who went to Swindon, Calder seems to be the one taking his chance so far, I'd be happy with that, our midfield has been full of midgets for far too long.

Villa U18 2-1 Southampton
Very nice performance from this years youth team in their first game of the new season. Played some lovely football at times. Two goals from Corey Taylor gave us a well deserved Half Time lead. He dribbled around three players and finished with his left foot for his first and then was taken down in the area and got up to bury a penalty for his second.
As the club have stopped handing out Team Sheets (which saves them about £3) even us regular Youth Team watchers are struggling to know who is playing for us, with a new batch of players this year.
Callum O'Hare was very good in the number 10 (as I like to call it) roll. I liked the left footed midfield player who might be called Clarke or Clark.
The Team played some lovely football. Always hard to judge because we don't know how good Southampton will be this year but I think I am going to enjoy this season.
-
The U18's have both a Clark and a Clarke - like there's not enough confusion over the spelling of Ciaran Clark's name.

Villa U21s 0-0 Stoke U21s
Went to Bescott tonight to watch this. Not the best game ever but very competitive.
We played Bradley Watkins in Goal.
Back four was Leggett, Donacien, Toner and Kinsella.
Midfield was Abdo on the right, Lyden and Hale in the middle with Calder on the left.
Front two were Harry McKirdy and Joe Cole.
The defenders were definitely on top and Donacien and Toner were very solid. I do think Kevin Toner is a good defender. Hard as nails.
Ricardo Calder played wide on the left and caused Stoke problems with his power and pace. The night was made better with the score coming through from the Hawthorns I suppose.

Derby U21 0-0 Villa U21 - 15mins: No goals yet but Adama Traore has had supporters on their feet here at St George's Park - charging past three players with his first touch and crossing for Gil who could only steer his effort wide. At the other end, Ivan Calero's free-kick was well saved by Mark Bunn and Mason Bennett's goalbound effort was cleared off the line by Easah Suliman.

Hey Leeg, Can't wait to see Cam playing in the U16s and U18s at Bodymoor on a Saturday morning. Sounds like we will see him soon.

You most definitely will. He is currently playing at U14 level and is head and shoulders above everyone else in ability. A natural striker. I get to watch him when his Dad invites me down on Sunday morning home games at BMH. He is something special.
-
Glad our lads seem to be approaching fitness. Bench soon maybe.

If he gets a call up for the U16s can you let me know. I would guess he will later in the season.

Of course I will.

Adama traore sounds good, woodwank all over it

Grealish, Gil and Traore all playing and learning each others games is great news for us, even if it's a weak side they're facing.

Any news? Official website on mobile is crap.

From the Villa Facebook page...........
Derby U21 0-1 Villa U21 - HT: Jack Grealish's goal separates the sides at the break following an entertaining opening 45 minutes at St George's Park. Adama Traore has excelled on his first appearance in claret and blue and has been at the forefront of Villa's attacking play. Goalkeeper Mark Bunn has made some important interventions, too - none more so than from Ivan Calero's free-kick. Carles Gil almost doubled the advantage in stoppage time but saw his effort from a difficult angle well saved by Jonathan Mitchell.
Derby U21 0-1 Villa - FT: Villa have recorded their first league win of the season - beating Derby at St George's Park. Jack Grealish's goal after half an hour proved to be the difference in a well-contested match. Both sides had opportunities in the second period - Villa through Joe Bennett and Grealish while Offrande Zanzala's header crashed off the crossbar for the Rams.
-
Ta spangley.
-
Adama Traore played his first 90 minutes in claret and blue as Villa recorded their first Barclays U21 Premier League victory of the season.
Mark Bunn, Nathan Baker, Joe Bennett, Carles Gil and Jack Grealish also featured in an entertaining affair at St George's Park.
It didn't take Traore long to adapt to his new surroundings and for the man signed from Barcelona to get spectators on their feet.
With his first touch, he picked up the ball in his own half, charged past three players towards the right byline and crossed for Gil, who could only fire his shot wide.
However, while Villa played the possession football, their hosts from the East Midlands were more direct.
The claret and blues were indebted to goalkeeper Bunn - saving low from Ivan Calero's dangerous free-kick.
Meanwhile, defender Easah Suliman was in the thick of the action at both ends - blocking Mason Bennett's goalbound effort and heading over from a pinpoint Jack Grealish corner.
Villa took the lead on 30 minutes through former U21 star, Grealish - the winger firing a low effort home after a neat attacking move involving Traore and Gil.
Both outfits were quick out of the blocks after the break.
The lively Mason Bennett stung the gloves of Bunn to maintain Villa's lead.
Gil's wonderful through ball was met by Grealish and just like his opposite number, Jonathan Mitchell was equal to it.
Much like in the first period, Villa began to turn the screw with the Derby defenders struggling to deal with the pace and crisp passing of Gil, Grealish and Traore.
Spaniard Gil embarked on a mazy run, found the onrushing Bennett up from the back but the left-back's shot was palmed to safety.
Just after the hour, there was a huge let off for the visitors as Offrande Zanzala's header crashed off the bar.
The Rams were guilty of missing a host of chances with Ivan Calero going closest.
As the game drew to a close, Villa had to be resilient as goalkeeper Mitchell came up for - and met - a corner but he was adjudged to have committed a foul in the box.
Derby County U21s: Mitchell, Ssewankambo, Wassall, Koblenz, Lowe; Bird, Vernam, Santos (Gordon, 72), Bennett (Bunjaku, 67), Calero; Zanzala. Substitutes not used: Barnes (GK), Tuite, Cover.

Desperate to see some footage.. apparently Gil, Jack and Traore were fantastic together.

Sounds like our attack looked great and our defence ropey. No Cole involved, I guess we had too many skilful baatards playing already.

Highlights up on AVTV (why no full matches of U21's FFS???)
The three did look excellent. I am shocked how good Traore looked, I know its an under 21 game so I expected him to be a class above skill wise (and he was) but I didn't expect him to be so quick & strong and by quick I mean a couple of yards faster than any other player on the pitch. He also has that lovely habit of holding his pass until he draws a couple of players on top of himself.
Beautiful.

West Ham U21s 1 Aston Villa U21s 2: Match report
Jordan Lyden grabs late victory for Villa youngsters against Hammers
22:00, 24 August 2015
By Darren Campbell
Aston Villa's U21s struck late to claim all three points against West Ham's youngsters in the Barclays U21 Premier League.
Captain Jordan Lyden fired the winner on 84 minutes after Manuel Lanzini had cancelled out Jerell Sellars' first half penalty.
The Hammers had the better of the early opportunities, Jed Steer saving from Elliot Lee before Josh Cullen saw his effort crash off the post.
But it was Villa who took the lead from the spot on 23 minutes. Khalid Abdo was fouled by Kyle Knoyle in the area and Sellars stroked the ball home.
The lead did not last long however, Lanzini levelling for the hosts on 34 minutes after Steer had kept out a previous attempt.
Sellars and Rory Hale both had chances for Villa while Nathan Mavila twice came close for the hosts as both teams went in search of a winner in the second half.
But it was Lyden who found it for the claret and blues, finishing past home keeper Sam Howes with six minutes remaining to clinch the victory.
WEST HAM U21s : Howes, Westley (Akinola 70), Hendrie, Dobson (Nasha 85), Knoyle, Onariase, Rowe (Mavila 60), Cullen, Lee, Lanzini, Samuelsen. Subs not used: Brown, Gordon.
ASTON VILLA U21s : Steer, Mason, Kinsella, Lyden, Toner, Suliman, Cowans (O'Hare 71), Hale, Sellars, Abdo (Blackett-Taylor 71), Calder. Subs not used: Leggett, Bannister, Lyons-Foster.

Just back from a visit to Bodymoor to watch the Youth Team play Norwich. The game is showing on the website as an 11 O'Clock start. It has been put back to 2pm KO. I checked before I left work and have checked again and it is still showing as 11am.
Supporters have gone home disappointed although most of us will be back at 2.
Even the Sandwich Van didn't know of the switch and set up for an early start.
This is not an unusual occurrence. I would have thought the website could be updated fairly easily to avoid people being inconvenienced.
-
The website's crap and has been for a long time.

Villa 2 - 0 Norwich
Taylor and Humphries the scorers.
I really like this years Team. Hard working and very gifted ball players. Small and skillful players who like to pass the ball. As far as I know there are only three second years in the Team. Bannister the keeper, O'hare and Taylor.
Taylor has had a good start to the season with a number of goals. Pacy winger.
O'Hare is a talent. A bit of a Jack Grealish. Wants the ball even when marked and goes past people. He is an Irish Benny Carbone. Norwich couldn't cope with him today.
I like the midfield of Clark and Humphries very much.
Norwich were a good Team and you would fancy them in a Tug of War with our Light weights. But we were a little too sharp for them.
Some good coaching being done at the Academy I think.

U21 TEAM NEWS: Our youngsters take on Brighton at Walsall this evening.
Tiago Ilori, Jose Angel Crespo and Libor Kozak all start.
Villa U21: Watkins, Leggett, Ilori, Toner, Crespo, Kinsella, Hale, Lyden (C), Sellars, Abdo, Kozak. Subs: Bannister, Swift, Humphries, O’Hare, Blackett, Taylor.
Brighton U21: Smith, Hunt (C), Starkey, Barclay, Goldson, White, Calderon, Crofts, Akindayini, Kandi, Ward. Subs: Vose, Deen, Tilley, Barnett, Tighe.
-
Villa U21 1-1 Brighton U21 - HT: Jerell Sellars' strike just before the half-time whistle cancelled out Andrew Crofts' opener. It's been an entertaining opening 45 minutes at the Banks's Stadium. The visitors took an early lead after just four minutes but the claret and blues have enjoyed the better possession since and are deservedly level.
-
We won 2-1 with a last minute penalty from Kozak.
Pretty good game.
-
Crespo looked class. So composed and tidy on the ball. He played at centre-half rather than full back. Kozak was a bit disappointing, as was Kinsella but Sellars, Abdo & the kid with the Jack Grealish hairdo ( O'Hare?) were very good.

I keep promising to take my daughter to see the Villa ladies and they're playing at The Den in 2 weeks. Only £1 for kids and £4 for adults. Has anyone seen AVFC Ladies? what's the standard like? I'm guessing the atmosphere at Millwall Ladies is a bit calmer than for the men

Wouldn't be so sure mate - Went to the sty to see the reserves a few years ago (Luke Moores last game for us IIRC) bloody knuckledraggers causing grief all over the place. Yep, at a bloody stiffs match with a crowd of about 200! I wouldn't expect Miw-wuwl would be any different!

Anyone saw how Tiago Ilori played last night in the U21 game?
-
Villa U18s win 5-0 at Brighton U18s.
Corey Taylor [2], Callum O’Hare, Rushian Hepburn-Murphy and Easah Suliman were the scorers.
-
Picked up on this from another fanzine web site (VV) which in its report had a link to Shrewsbury Town FC. Their site has a full report and lists the teams. Cannot see anything on OS. Anyway on Tuesday 22 Sept a mainly U21 team played a friendly at BMH against a Shrewsbury Town U21 team. Villa won 3-1, after going a goal down.
Notable for what I think is Benjamin Siegrist's first appearance since breaking his leg. Also in the team were Tiago Ilori for the full 90 mins, Donacien back from his loan spell, and N'Zogbia on for 65 mins. Kozak and Crespo did not feature.
-
Glad Siegchrist is back. Ilore too, had forgotten about him. He obviously can't play Saturday but might be worth considering next week.

Yeah. Probably the first time anyone's sat in the Barry Kitchener stand in an away shirt and escaped with their life ( my 11 year old daughter, not me). A few weirdos around - I'm thinking of the fella I got talking to at the bar who was on his own, in his 50s and wearing a One Direction ruck sack - but generally much more pleasant than when we played there in the Cup a few years ago.
-
Good photos on FB Chico.
-
0-0 vs Albion so far. Nice run by Traore, Kozak couldn't convert.
-
Villa U21 0-0 West Brom U21 - 15mins: An entertaining start in this local derby. Albion's Samir Nabi created their best chance - shooting narrowly over the bar. Adama Traore has looked strong down the right and has twice come close to fashioning an opener. On six minutes he picked out the onrushing Lewis Kinsella whose shot was parried and Jordan Lyden's follow-up was chalked off for offside. He then set up Kozak, who couldn't steer an effort from close-range on target.

True.
-
Villa U21 0-1 West Brom U21 - FT: Jores Okore played 90 minutes as our youngsters suffer their first defeat of the Barclays U21 Premier League Division Two campaign this evening. Andre Wright's late tap in was enough to give Albion victory in a cagey derby affair. Jordan Lyden and Libor Kozak went close for Villa while Wright and Joe Ward forced Villa stopper Brad Watkins into saves.
-
Good to see Okore fit for 90.
-
Seeing a mention in the Brum Mail today of an U21 friendly match v Burnley behind closed doors yesterday looked for a report on the OS, but found nothing, again. So went to the Burnley FC site and found a full report, except for the Viila team! Obviously written from the Burnley perspective.
Anyway from the report the team fielded was more "Stiffs" than U21. Villa won 2-1. Goals courtesy of Grealish, from a free kick, and Bacuna, a penalty. Names mentioned are:-
Siegrist, who was nutmegged for the Burnley goal. Okore, Senderos, Tiago Ilore, Richardson, Bacuna, Joe Cole, Grealish, Adama Traore, and Kozak. I make that 10 players but do not know of the 11th or any subs used.
Of interest is the report says Adama was frustrated in the 2nd half up against the Burnley captain, Luke Hendrie. He may find it harder to adapt then he or we think.
Could do with more practice games in this break to get somewhere in solving the problems that are apparent.
-
From what Sherwood said post match on Saturday the break will be used to get players on the perifery up to match fitness. This sounds like part of that process.
-
That should have been done before the season started.
-
Quite agree, however it would be nice if the long term injured (Oakare,Senderos,Traore,Kozak) were available for selection after the break.
-
Kozak's been available all season, hasn't he?
-
Your guess is as good as mine.
-
Only recently.

He did but all young players go out on loan at some point and it doesn't do them any harm and it's probably doing Calder the world of good.

Anyone who watches the U21s regularly will not be surprised that the Team we put out at Swansea were soundly beaten.
The people calling for Kozak to be picked for the first Team have obviously not seen him playing for the U21's.
He has been embarrassingly bad in the games I have seen. Can't win a header, misses chances, doesn't hold the ball up, dominated by young defenders. He did score a last minute penalty against Brighton but that was the only thing he did in the whole match.
To be fair to Tim. He is there watching at the reserve games and he also see's him train every day.
I can't imagine Gestede being worse than him in any training session.

Villa 4 - 4 Chelsea
Very good game today at Bodymore. I like this Team a lot. Chelsea as usual were very good but we play some nice Football and when Chelsea scored what looked like a winner 2 minutes from time we didn't give up and had a near miss and then a last minute equaliser from Hepburn Murphy from the penalty spot.
Goals from Sulaman, Humphreys and two from Hepburn Murphy.
-
From the OS
Rushian Hepburn-Murphy grabbed a brace as our youngsters contested an eight-goal thriller with Chelsea at Bodymoor Heath.
Villa took the lead early on but came from behind three times to snatch a dramatic point in the south section of the U18 Premier League.
Their start could not have been better as after just five minutes, skipper Easah Suliman fired home from Callum O'Hare's cross from the right.
With their tails up, Jake Humphries' low right-footed drive was then saved before the visitors settled.
The equaliser came within 10 minutes of Suliman's goal as Dan Kemp advanced down the right flank and Mason Mount prodded in past goalkeeper Matija Sarkic from close range.
The Londoners were ahead just before the half-hour mark as Kemp again caused problems down the right and forced a save from Sarkic, who could not hold on to the loose ball and Harvey St Clair was on hand to put his side in front.
Villa responded brilliantly, though and equalised just four minutes later.
The impressive O'Hare provided a lovely floated cross for Hepburn-Murphy and the striker headed beyond Nathan Baxter.
Such was the topsy-turvy nature of the contest Mount fired the Blues back in front 11 minutes before the break finishing into the bottom corner.
Villa responded and Baxter was forced to claw away a looping effort from Jack Clarke late in the half.
Just after the hour mark, Jake Humphries drew the claret and blues level again - reacting quickest following a scramble in the box.
With the game seemingly destined to end three apiece, the visitors then grabbed what appeared to be the winner - St Clair rifled his finish into the roof of the net.
Yet, Ben Petty's team were not finished and snatched a point at the death.
The home side won a penalty which Hepburn-Murphy duly converted.
Villa U18: Sarkic, Linley, Hailey (Finnerty 57), Hayes (Cox 67), Clark, Suliman (C), Taylor, Clarke, Hepburn-Murphy, O'Hare, Humphries (Mooney 67).
Unused subs: Idem, Prosser.
Chelsea U18: Baxter, Grant (C), Colley, Nartey (Chalobah 60), Dasilva (Sterling 73), Sammut (Maddox 69), McCormick, Kemp, Mount, St Clair, Ugbo.

Report: Norwich U18s 1-2 Villa U18s
Rushian Hepburn-Murphy was the hero as his late goal ensured a 2-1 win for Villa U18s at Norwich U18s.
It was a hard-fought victory for the claret and blue starlets after a disjointed week, which had seen some of the squad travel to Genk for a friendly and the others remain at Bodymoor Heath for training.
Despite this, Ben Petty's side produced a fine display - and a hard-fought victory.
Villa U18s were on top in the first half without really stamping their authority on the game.
But they went behind early in the second half.
However, they showed plenty of bottle and character to respond well and earn the win.
There was a smart backheel finish from Moustafa Zeidan to level matters.
And with the game heading for a draw, a sumptuous late lob from starlet striker Hepburn-Murphy guaranteed the result the team wanted.
It also means that Hepburn-Murphy now has five goals in his last three appearances.
Villa U18s backline deserve immense credit for a fine stopping display for much of the game, with top performances from Joe Linley, Mitch Clark and captain Easah Suliman, with Jake Hayes also excelling further up.
Villa U18s: Idem, Linley, Hailey (Hall 79), Omerovic (Knibbs 49), Clark, Suliman, Zeidan, Hayes, Hepburn-Murphy, O'Hare, Humphries (Clarke 66). Subs not used: Prosser, Bannister.

Fulham U21s 2 Aston Villa U21s 2: Teenage striker continues his goalscoring form
Rushian Hepburn-Murphy and Harry McKirdy on the score sheet again for the claret and blues
15:59, 19 NOV 2015 UPDATED 16:02, 19 NOV 2015
BY GREGG EVANS
Rushian Hepburn-Murphy continued his fine goalscoring form with another strike in Aston Villa U21s 2-2 draw away at Fulham this afternoon.
The 17-year-old has been hot in front of goal this term but his goal, coupled with another from strike partner Harry McKirdy wasn’t enough to see off their spirited hosts.
Villa took the lead twice in the first-half but were pegged back and had to settle for a share of the spoils despite having the better chances after the break.
On the half-hour mark McKirdy slipped in Hepburn-Murphy who coolly finished past Magnus Norman.
Just three minutes later, though, Fulham were back in the game as Mattias Kait smashed home.
With half-time approaching Villa ploughed forward and they soon found themselves ahead again after lethal play up front.
Hepburn-Murphy this time returned the favour as he supplied the pass for McKirdy to finish from close range.
Villa continued to take the game to the home side at Motspur Park but on 65 minutes Jordan Evens equalised again.
Josh Webb went close twice and captain Jordan Lyden also had an opportunity to grab a winner but the scores remained even.
Villa U21: Sarkic, Webb, Suliman, Mason, Kinsella, Taylor, Cowans, Lyden, Sellars, McKirdy, Hepburn-Murphy. Subs: Bannister, Leggett, O’Hare, Hale, Hayes.

Aston Villa U14s 2 Derby County U14s 4
Cam only played for the second half but got both goals, had a third disallowed for off-side and another shot spectacularly cleared off the line.
-
From the OS:-
Adama Traore, Libor Kozak and Charles N'Zogbia all played 90 minutes as Villa ran out comfortable winners over Fleetwood Town in a behind-closed-doors match at Bodymoor Heath.
Defender Jores Okore also stepped up his return from a long-term knee injury while Philippe Senderos also featured for the full match.
U21 skipper Jordan Lyden put the hosts in control with two well-taken strikes from the edge of the penalty area.
Kieran Dunbar reduced the deficit before the break.
Adama Traore restored Villa's two-goal advantage before a penalty from Fleetwood's Vamara Sanogo made it 3-2.
In the end, the claret and blues' quality and experience shone through as goals from N'Zogbia and the impressive Traore secured a comprehensive win.
There was also a useful workout for midfielder Gary Gardner.
Villa: Bunn, Webb, Okore, Senderos, Kinsella, Traore, Lyden, Gardner, Hayes, N'Zogbia, Kozak
-
The impressive Traore is encouraging and hardly surprising. We need a spark and he can provide it. Right now we are in the we have nothing to lose category so let's just go for it.
-
Garde obviously running the slide rule over a few of the nearly men...will be interesting to see if their showing leads to any changes on Saturday.
-
Yep I'd say 5 or 6 of that line up will be involved Saturday
-
I can see Traore starting on Saturday.

It wouldn't surprise me if N'Zogbia did. I reckon Traore will be on the bench.

I want to see him involved in some capacity.

Would he throw in Kinsella? Could be a risk but no greater than playing Richardson.

I watched it on AVTV and quite enjoyed it. Kozak put himself about although he didn't get a great deal of service other than his goal, which was a typical Kozak poachers finish, in right place at the right time. Traore ran them ragged at times and Hepburn-Murphy looked pretty good. I did quite like the no16 who came on as well. Overall, they played quite well.

That's why I'd like to see Kozak get some time with the first team, we don't seem to have anyone else with that instinct to just be in the right place.

From the official site (http://www.avfc.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10265~5192042,00.html):
Several first teamers are set for action tonight as Villa U21s face Derby U21s.
The likes of Libor Kozak, Adama Traore, Jack Grealish, Tiago Ilori and Mark Bunn are due to be involved for the 7pm kick-off at Villa Park
I always wondered why more use wasn't made of the U21s to trial fringe first team players. Their selection suggests these players are in the mix and they have an opportunity to prove they should be first team players and to work on advice given in training. I hope they all play well.
-
I have more of a concern with them naming it U21 but then having all the clauses to let 'overs' play to gain fitness. Why not just call it reserves and then have rules around who can be included in the matchday squads, just seems a totally inappropriate name.
-
It's live on avtv. will be interesting to see Ilori

Very. Should have been a yellow at least. Idiot.

Another lovely finish from Kozak.

I said it last week but Traore is very frustrating. He plays like a kid, greedy and never gets his head up. Has all the ability in the world but he's a long way from the finished article

We don't need the finished article, we need someone who can scare the shit out of a back 4, create chances and keep the fullback honest (i.e. not playing like a winger). For all his flaws he offers much more than Sinclair right now and should be given a chance for a couple of games from the start. I'd give Kozak a run as well because if the ball is going across the 6yd box we don't have another striker who will gamble on getting on the end of it.

The line-ups are in for tonight’s FA Youth Cup third round clash against Everton at Goodison Park.
Good news for Villa – Andre Green has passed a late fitness test, while Rushian Hepburn-Murphy, Callum O’Hare, Corey Taylor and Easah Suliman are all involved.
The match kicks off at 7pm and a fourth round trip to Accrington or Crystal Palace awaits the winner.
EVERTON: O'Loughlin, Yates, Feeney, Bainbridge, Connolly, Baningime, Walsh, Donohue, Broadhead, Evans, Brewster. Subs: Jones, Holland, Yarney, Dowell, Lavery.
VILLA: Johansson; Clark, Omerovic, Suliman, Abdoul; Clarke; Green, Hayes, O’Hare, Taylor; Hepburn-Murphy. Subs: Linley, Idem, Humphries, Zeidan, Mooney.

Everton U18 0-0 Villa U18 – HT: It’s all-square at the break in this FA Youth Cup third round tie at Goodison Park. Villa had the better chances in the first period. Rushian Hepburn-Murphy capitalised on a mistake in the Everton defence and rounded goalkeeper Ciaran O’Loughlin but couldn’t force his shot home from a right angle. Hepburn-Murphy was denied by O’Loughlin just past the half-hour mark before Callum O’Hare’s follow-up was cleared off the line. Ben Petty’s team did survive a scare when Delial Brewster’s fierce left-foot drive struck the post.

Arsenal 1 - Aston Villa 2
Arsenal U21 1-2 Villa U21 - FT: Rushian Hepburn-Murphy’s late goal has earned Villa victory at Boreham Wood. The striker latched onto Jerell Sellars’ pass to finish coolly. It was an impressive response given Arsenal had levelled moments prior courtesy of Donyell Malen’s penalty after Stephy Malvididi was fouled. Villa had taken a first half lead – Sellars tapping home the rebound after Hepburn-Murphy’s strike was saved by goalkeeper Ryan Huddart. Both sides enjoyed opportunities in the first period - Hepburn-Murphy with three for Villa and Kaylen Hinds and Mavididi for Arsenal. Tiago Ilori and Jack Grealish both played the full 90 minutes.

It's time Rushian Hepburn-Murphy got a chance in the first team squad. He's about the only player at the club scoring goals at any level.
-
I was thinking about him earlier today; wondering what he was doing. As an aside to that I was looking at all of our options and what we don't have is pace. Anywhere. We've got a 100 metre runner who gets the odd 5 minutes or so, but no-one with pace who knows how to use it. It appears this kid may just be worth throwing in there and saying,'just do what you want to do with it, son'. Pace and no fear. Again, nothing to lose.
-
I suppose the one thing is if he's physically ready, he's not long turned 17. As i've never seen him play apart from that cameo last season i've no idea if he is or not.

He looked very useful in the last U21 game I watched on AVTV. Not sure he's quite ready yet although a place on the bench wouldn't hurt I suppose.

I assume that Libor is now wrapped up in cotton wool ahead of a January departure

Interesting team for the U21 as much for those not selected as those who were. No seniors such as Kozak, Senderos, or Cissokho on his return. Kevin Toner back in the team though.
This morning I went to the Arsenal.com web site for a report on the game and the teams. Traore played for 52 minutes and early on in the second half missed a sitter inside the 6 yard box.
Just had a look at the OS. Still no report and not even the score. Anyone going to the AVST AGM? Please ask Fox why the club web site is so crap at putting up information on U21 and Academy games for those of us who are interested in the youngsters/reserves.

There is a full report on the OS now.
If referring to the 21 December post then I could not see it on the OS late yesterday afternoon/early evening.
May be wrong in assuming it was put on the OS this morning.

He got subbed as well. No mention of him in the report, so he obviously had no influence at all. What a shame.

Does anyone here watch the u21's on a regular basis? If so can you fill us in on what kind of player this Rushian kid is and also Jerell Sellers. I keep hearing about them both but haven't a clue. Are they genuine stand outs?

I have been impressed with both RHM and Sellars when i have seen them this season, both seem natural goalscorers. So hard to tell at this level though if a kid has got what it takes for first team football .A couple of seasons ago i felt certain Calum Robinson had got what it takes, now he is not even able to get in Bristol City 18 on matchday .Jorden Lyden has looked pretty good this season and i was not surprised to see Garde include him to the first team squad
-
I haven't ever followed the youth games, but I see that Daniel Johnson is currently Preston's top scorer this season with 7 goals from midfield. Perhaps he is finding his level as a decent Championship midfielder.

I could be wrong but I always think it's easier to put an attacker into the first team, especially if it's struggling, because they can win a game whereas it's more likely for a defender to lose one.

FA Youth Cup match report: Crystal Palace 1-5 Villa
Selhurst delight for young lions.
Emily Liles
Five-star Villa progressed to the fifth round of the FA Youth Cup in style with a scintillating showing against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.
Winger Corey Taylor ran the opening 45 minutes and earned assists for his team's first two strikes.
Kelsey Mooney set the visitors on their way, firing home after a good spell of Villa pressure.
On 18 minutes, Callum O'Hare [pictured] made it two - heading home from another Taylor cross.
With their tails up, Ben Petty's side continued to attack.
Moustafa Zeidan embarked on a marauding run before shooting over the bar.
A fine solo effort from Andre Green after a neat one-two on the edge of the box made it three.
Villa were pegged back just before the interval, conceding a penalty after Johan Abdoul fouled Corie Andrews - Palace's Levi Lumeka dispatched.
The second half was a tight affair but Villa grew stronger as the game opened up.
There was a glorious chance for Palace to reduce the deficit to one - Aaron Bissaka's shot and substitute Dan Hogan's follow-up was off target.
A well-worked corner was tucked home by O'Hare for the fourth.
O'Hare almost grabbed his hat-trick with two chances in quick succession.
The first arrived on the back of a super run down the right from Mitch Clark before a second deflected strike.
The young lions put the icing on the cake in the final stages.
Andre Green tore away on the left hand side, picked out Jake Humphries and he rifled in a fifth within minutes of entering the field.
Coach Ben Petty said: "It was an outstanding performance from the team.
"We were pleased with our preparation in the lead up and were confident after the good run of form we have been in.
"We started the game exactly how we planned and some of our attacking play was excellent.
"It was a top class team effort but special credit must go to goalkeeper Emmanuel Idem, Jack Coates and Kelsey Mooney who were brought into the side after missing out on the Everton game."
VILLA: Idem, Clark, Abdoul, Zeidan (Clarke 72), Coates, Suliman, Taylor (Cox 84), Hayes, Mooney, (Humphries 80), O'Hare, Green. Unused subs: Linley, Boucher.

All credit to the Youth team on their 5-1 win at Selhurst Park in the F A Youth cup yesterday
-
From the Sun ( lightening the gloom just a tad )..................................Godzvilla!
As Aston Villa's first-team struggle, Corey Taylor and Callum O'Hare impress in 5-1 FA Youth Cup win
Aston Villa have some fine young players coming through the ranks.
" Aston Villa fans will be forgiven for thinking this weekend offered little suggestion that the future would be any brighter than the present after Remi Garde’s side put in an awful performance against Wycombe Wanderers in the third round of the FA Cup.
However, while Villa struggle both in the league and now the famous old cup competition, the club’s next generation set about lifting some of the clouds currently enveloping the club.
A 5-1 FA Youth Cup victory against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park showcased some of Villa’s wonderful young talent, with two players in particular standing out.
Corey Taylor is an 18-year-old right winger who can also play as a forward if required, and against Palace he bossed the match, setting up the first two goals for Kelsey Mooney and Callum O’Hare.
With 10 matches for Villa’s under-21s already under his belt, nine of which have come this season, Taylor is certainly one to watch, and on this evidence he looks set to take the competition by storm in the months ahead.
Andre Green made it three before Palace pulled one back through Levi Lumeka, but the second half saw further goals from O’Hare and Jake Humphries.
While Green added an assist to his strike and looked a constant threat, it was two-goal O’Hare who really caught the eye and his performance was a fine way to celebrate the professional contract he signed back in December".
-
Villa host Blackburn Rovers in the fifth round of the FA Youth Cup at Villa Park.
The match will take place on Monday February 1, kick-off is 7pm.
Ben Petty will be in charge of the claret and blue side, which could feature the likes of Easah Suliman, Callum O'Hare and Andre Green, who have all impressed at U18 and U21 level this season.
The young lions ran out 5-1 winners at Crystal Palace last time out - Kelsey Mooney, Green and Jake Humphries on target while O'Hare netted a brace.
We boast a good record in the competition, having reached the final in 2010 and the semi-final in 2011.
As well as winning it in 2002, we were also runners-up in 2004.
This fixture means our U21 match with Fulham will be moved - we'll update in due course.
-
Crikey. Won it in 2002. Seems like yesterday... and such hopes for the senior side, especially with the 2004 side too (didn't that have Gabby in it?)
-
Both of those Villa sides were very successful, of the 2004 side that lost so miserably to Middlesboro, four went on to become under-21 internationals and a further three gained full caps.
For a single year's youth team that is a fairly staggering rate of success.
-
U21's winning 1-0 v Wolves. Grealish, penalty.
-
1-1.
Video of Grealish goal on our FB page.
-
We could do worse than to give Sellars a go. He's been scoring in the ressies. He's got pace. Lyden's getting his chance. We're absolutely crying out for goals, so we might as well bring Sellars into the first team and give him a go. We might as well give 2-3 kids some valuable minutes this season to get them ready for a Championship slog next year, because I think we'll see a lot more of our youngsters next season once the squad starts disbanding in the summer.

Wolves 2-3 Aston Villa: Grealish and Sellars help Villa's U21s to victory
A five-goal thriller ended with a Villa win tonight at the New Bucks Head
20:57, 25 JAN 2016 UPDATED 20:57, 25 JAN 2016
BY GREGG EVANS
Jack Grealish and Jerell Sellars inspired Villa U21s to victory as they sneaked past struggling neighbours Wolves at the New Bucks Head.
The claret and blues took the lead early in the first half when Grealish converted a penalty but Bright Enobakhare was quick to cancel out his opener.
Sellars scored the first of his two goals on 77 minutes but Wolves hit back again through Tommy Rowe.
Villa were not finished yet, though, as Sellars slammed in the winner in the final minute after great work from Grealish in the build-up.
The away side were not at their best but had Jordan Lyden to thank for an impressive display in holding midfield.
He kept Wolves largely at bay and Villa then had enough quality to eventually get over the line.
The visitors took the lead on 17 minutes after Andre Green was fouled by Aaron Simpson in the box.
Villa’s teenage winger, who signed a professional deal at the club last month, showed great skill and electric pace to get into the box before he was upended.
Grealish, handed a start to help him build up his match fitness, smashed his penalty down the middle giving Aaron McCarey no chance in the Wolves goal as he dived to his right.
The hosts, without a win in the league since August 21, quickly bounced back though.
Enobakhare raced down the left and when his shot deflected off Niall Mason it wrong-footed Matija Sarkic and Wolves were level.
Mason had made some important challenges in the heart of defence prior to that and was unfortunate to divert the winger’s effort into his own net.
It was the forwards who then wasted chances to put Villa ahead.
Grealish ran through on goal and did everything but apply the finish while Riccardo Calder went close and Lyden was denied.
Wolves grew into the game and were the dominant force after the break with Brad Walker shooting just wide from distance.
Lyden was superb in the middle of the park, winning tackles, keeping Villa’s opponents at bay and generally carrying his side through the game.
On 77 minutes, against the run of play, Villa took the lead for a second time.
Kinsella raced down the left wing and crossed for Sellars who put the finishing touch to a brilliant passage of play.
Rowe thought he had earned his side a share of the spoils but Sellars had the last laugh when he smashed in at the death,
Sarkic, Webb, Mason, Suliman, Kinsella, Blackett-Taylor (Hale, 64) Calder, (Cowans, 87) Grealish, Lyden, Sellars, Green (Abdo, 74) Subs: Toner, Idem, Cowans,

Not sure about that, he's still only 19 so there's plenty of time for him to develop.
-
At 19 you would think he would be on loan to a lower/non-league club, not warming the bench for the reserves.

He should be doing what the club deem best for his development. Aside from that just because he was on the bench last night doesn't mean that's all he's done, he'd played the full game in 3 of the last 4 U21 matches so he is clearly involved.

Thanks for posting the vid

There are a couple of flashes in that which show what Grealish can do, he needs to work out how to have that impact in the first team. I like Sellers as well, nothing groundbreaking but he reacts well to the ball in the box and is willing to gamble to try to get on the end of things.
-
There were a few of our kids that looked handy in those highlights. We certainly looked the better side.

Not that it should matter but a female ref
Good to see and how long before there is a female reffing a premiership game

Good display from our ' young uns' by all accounts , this from the Mail ....................... Godzvilla!
"Two first half goals saw Aston Villa's youngsters to victory over Swansea City in the Barclays U21 Premier League despite playing the last half hour with ten men.
Tom Leggett's delivery was headed home by Keinan Davis on 18 minutes before Riccardo Calder nodded in from Andre Green's cross shortly before half-time at Walsall's Banks's Stadium.
But the game turned just before the hour mark when Leggett was dismissed for a second bookable offence before Oliver McBurnie pulled a goal back for the visitors after Easah Suliman had brought down Alex Bray.
Despite being a man down, Villa ended the game strongly and could have added a third, Jordan Lyden forcing a smart stop from Swans keeper Josh Vickers while Callum O’Hare and Jerell Sellars also went close" .
VILLA U21s : Johansson, Leggett (s/o 58), Webb, Mason, Suliman, Green (Hale 58), Calder, Lyden (C), Cowans, Sellars (O'Hare 78), Davis (Swift 73). Subs not used: Idem, Abdo

My 'as it happened':
Swansea are playing a quick pressing style, the kind the 1st team capitulate under. 3 mins, Swansea sky it over from 6 yards out.
11 min. Swansea are on top, Villa not afraid of a challenge though. Their no11 is quick. Several chances from corners, Villa don't clear. 0-0
15 mins. Davies breaks away, Swansea keeper rushes out and takes the man. Yellow card. Free kick was good, palmed wide. 0-0.
18 mins. GOAL VILLA. Calder impressing on edge of box. Flicks it into the box, Davies on the end of it with placed header. 1-0
30 mins. Swansea still effective with their press-then-quick-counter. Villa have good shape though. 1-0
37 mins. Yellow card Leggett. Not much in it.
40 mins. GOAL VILLA. Green with a cross from the byline picks out Calder for an easy placed header. 2-0
45 mins. Good villa action. Sellars shot wide, a minute later lovely play, Calder receives great pass on the wing, goalie gets to the through pass before Davies. 2-0 HT.
HT - Cold.
52 mins. Swansea have been pushed back at times, but have had some nice attacks too. Calder gets a silly yellow, encroaching on free kick.
56 mins. VILLA RED CARD. 2nd yellow for Leggett. After a Swansea yellow-foul, Leggett takes free kick. Ref not happy with ball placement, but does not indicate where. He launches the ball and gets a second yellow for his trouble.
61 mins. GOAL SWANSEA. Penalty when Suliman slides in. Their no9 converts. 2-1
66 mins. Swansea well on top. Powerful shot parried by Johannson and cleared. 2-1.
73 mins. Villa not dead yet. Swift on for Davies, Abdo on for Sellars. Good pacey runs troubling Swansea by the subs.
82 mins. Swansea not making extra man count. Villa clearing well. 2-1.
89 mins. Close from Abdo from 15 yards. 2-1. At the opposite ends a bit of handbags.
Full time: 2-1 Villa. Great game of footy enjoyed by 250. A fair result, the defence was shaky at first but grew in stature. Swansea seemed to lose their way, though their 7 (Daniel James) and 11 (Alex Bray) did well.
Now for the big question, who could fit in the 1sts this Sat? I would be reluctant to add any of the back 4 as they're not commanding enough. Andre Green? I'd probably go with Sinclair. Calder has good attacking intelligence on the right and could be considered, as could Cowans in the 'quiet Westwood' role. As for the frontmen, Davies was a handful all night. Sellars is a bit too slight for the prem right now. Swift looked, um, swift and is one to watch.

Can any kind soul explain to me why Middlesbrough are currently in the euro youth competition with the big boys while we can't enter the competition. How did they qualify?
-
They're last season's U-19 English Champions, who qualify alongside each nation's Champions League teams.
-
Sorry if already asked but do we have any prospects in the academy or youth teams to be excited about?
What happened to Hepburn-Murphy? I heard Sellars was meant to be scoring regularly, is he still doing well?
-
Thanks, WTWD.
I wondered why they were allowed in, not being a CL team -a disgraceful restriction.
Weren't we prevented from defending our NextGen champions Trophy because of Michel "I want to give the game back to the smaller clubs" Platini?
Arsehole.
-
That is a most pertinent question to raise, Smirker, particularly because I think Lerner was advised that our youth setup was top notch, and that using the players generated by this system was a way forward and one which would be popular with the fans.
On the face of it, either he was misled, or things have disintegrated alarmingly under his watch.

Ladies won 3-2 at Spurs, after extra time, in the cup. Home to Everton next.

Was at the Dudley Youth Awards ceremony last night with my son and had a chat with our own Chloe Beattie and her Mom and Dad. She received a Highly Commended in the Sport category. She has also been called up for an England goalkeeping session so great things ahead we hope. Pity the first team aren't as dedicated and pleasant!

Just been told he has been promoted to the U15s squad for the floodlit cup final at St George's Park on Wednesday at 5.30pm v Manchester City. Really, really pleased for him.

I was at a family do last night - my wife's side of the family - and got talking to some Doncaster Rovers season ticket holders. As well as taking the piss, they were telling me about 'some lad' they had just got on loan from Villa and that he looks the real deal, too good for Div 1. He had only just got there, so who knows.
I have just looked it up and it is Riccardo Calder, who looked very useful indeed in pre-season friendlies if I remember.

Another game where the twitter updates seem to mention Lyden or Green pretty much every time anything happens. Both of them deserve a chance for the firsts before the end of the season.

Calder started on the left of a midfield three yesterday for Doncaster. Started the game wearing a bloody pair of gloves!!! But took them off after a bit. Didn't do anything wrong but didn't make much of an impact on the game. A bit frail in stature and would need to build himself up. Would think he would need another season at Div 1 level and see how he develops.

Agreed,Davies & Lyden look like the 'real deal'. Andre Green subbed midway through the 2nd half, so clearly he is in contention for a place vs Swansea. The boys played some good stuff ,so good to watch a Villa team winning and winning well, should really have had more than one goal to show for their attacking efforts ( and skill)................Godzvilla!
-
Popped along tonight. Cracking goal, the finish reminiscent of Kane's 1st on Sunday. Found it interesting that Green was calling for the ball 5 yards away from the defensive line when on the attack. Obviously he could have been instructed to play that way tonight but he could have tormented their RB more if he was on their shoulder.

Today Jerrel Sellars has joined Wycombe Wanderers on Loan until the end of the season. Benjamin Siegrist having joined Wycombe a few days ago on Loan.
Then there are reports that Villa are about to sign or have already signed Oscar Borg, an 18 year old attack minded left back from West Ham. Sources seem to be sites linked to West Ham. Apparently was once promising but now considered not good enough for them.

West Brom U21 1-0 Villa U21 – FT: Our youngsters suffer derby defeat– despite dominating large periods of the contest at The Hawthorns. Samir Nabi’s early goal was the difference in a match which saw the claret and blues enjoy all the possession. Adama Traore and Jack Grealish both played 76 minutes as they stepped up their return from injury. After the early goal, Kevin MacDonald’s young lions carved a number of chances through Adama, Andre Green and Kevin Toner. Albion ended the game with nine men as Callum McManaman and Callum Jones were both dismissed in the second period receiving two bookings each. Substitutes Rory Hale and Corey-Blackett-Taylor created further chances while Andre Wright and Nabi could have sealed the spoils on the break late on.

Somebody did a review on Reddit (https://www.reddit.com/r/avfc/comments/4dcce8/albion_u21_vs_villa_u21_match_updates/) - sounds like their young'uns are being well drilled in the art of Pulisball.

I enjoyed it as well. Quite impressed by Rory Hale in the middle, Adama didn't do a great deal and Grealish worked hard enough but went off injured as well. Shame about the near mass brawl at the end following the sending off.

Was it Webb or Toner that got sent off?

Not sure where Borg originates from but looks like a young version of John Gidman - if only he could have the same impact.

Just on the train back. Enjoyable evening at VP despite the rank weather.
Thought Hale and our number 9 really grew into the game and was impressed with Abdo too although he faded a bit. Grealish showed some good touches but was pretty ineffective, and you would never guess that Traore had cost £7m.

Don't worry, it was only the most entertaining game of the season!

Cries. I hate Sunderland and Notts County so much.
-
Just watched the set-to. It looked like Toner played the ball twice, an erm, very robust pair of challenges though.
-
April 11th was a red letter day - a Villa victory at Villa Park. Even though it was the U21 team, good to watch some good football and players up for the task. Pity about the handbags at the end, and Kevin Toner will have to learn the difference between tough tackling and the red card variety, but overall a very good performance start to finish.
However the Mail then ran a poll on throwing the youngsters into the Premiership with 96% saying yes. I was one of the 4% saying no. Loads of potential here even Adama Traore, though he was playing a different game to the other 10 players and was subbed off as a result with a quarter of an hour to go.
But potential is not achievement. Even Jack was not his sparkling best and had to come off after a heavy tackle. THe West Ham lads looked bigger and fitter and their second goal was all about the player with the ball brushing off tackles. I hesitate to think what the Prem would do to these young players. Let Kevin MacDonald keep on working with them and they will get better. But its worrying that fans seem to want to gamble. Bad though things are, it gets worse if the young players lose confidence. Patience please
Trevor Fisher.
-
did this really need its own thread Trevor? We have a spot to discuss reserve, youth, ladies etc.
-
Just watched the video of the red card and I have to say that's utterly pathetic from the ref, he seems to have booked him because of the reaction from the west ham player rather than the challenges neither of which was even a yellow card let alone a straight red.
-

I think he got the red for headbutting/rutting with the West Ham player afterwards rather than the tackle(s)

see I thought that but if so then it's even worse because the west ham player was just as bad so you either give both red or no one.
-
Those tackles! Don't know if the lad is any good but that's the first time I've seen some spirit from a Villa player this season. Make him captain.
-
I've not seen the Toner tackles, but are they as "tasty" as this one, which only earned a yellow card?
David Boysen (Brøndby) on Oliver Lund (Odense) (http://www.dr.dk/sporten/fodbold/superliga/video-stemplet-ober-godt-boysen-ikke-er-tungere)
The best bit is Boyson being asked about the tackle afterwards.
The quick translation is that Lund had caught him a couple of minutes earlier and then dragged up him like some little girl's doll which had pissed him off, so he just saw red when the opportunity was there.
-
Never a red card.

Agreed. There was more fight in those 2 tackles than the "First Team" have managed all season.

The referee was wrong. Both of Toner's tackles were hard but fair.
-
The Wet spammers caused the ruck, and then continued it long after the incident. As a qualified ref, I'd say that at least one of the oppo should have gone as well; probably the lad who ran over to Toner at first and shoved him hard.

Exactly, either he goes as well or no one does, the west ham 6 is lucky not to get anything either because he's the one that kicks off the 2nd round of it.

The referee was wrong. Both of Toner's tackles were hard but fair.
For me the salient points are
1. He plays the ball both times.
2. He's in control of his body, he's not recklessly flying in.
3. The West Ham player makes the second tackle look worse because he dives out of the way when he realises that he's not going to get anywhere near the ball.
4. The referee allows the fact that the West Ham players run up to start a ruck colour his view of what's happened.
-
And, I didn't see the ref comsult with his linesman who had a ringside view of it all. The Asst should have stepped in to pick out the offending spammer.

Saw Lewis Kinsella play for Kidderminster against Halifax tonight, had a really good game & looked well above that level.
The KH regulars I know rate him more than Toner who was on loan there earlier in the season.

Kinsella is two years older, in fairness to Toner.

Do sendings off in U-21s mean you the player is banned from 1st team football as well?
If so then in theory it should work the other way round, if, say, Ayew was sent off at Man Utd then any U-21 games played after that should count towards his three game ban because he could have been picked for that game.

I think you get a ban from all football until three first team games have been played, even friendlies and testimonials unless you get dispensation from the FA.

Apparently the Swansea players got a bit upset at the end of the match. Especially at Khalid Abdo.
at the Liberty Stadium, the midfielder went over to the fans - the vast majority of which were home supporters - screaming with joy and kissing the badge on his jersey.
Fair play to the lad for showing more love for the club than the first team have all season.

Bollocks to that, they're slipping a ringer in. If only we had a ringer we could do the same.

Also Coquelin, Gnabry, Chambers and Campbell!!

11 minutes, 1-0 Villa
Rushian H-Murphy
-
Now 1-1 !
-
I've made it to the ground after work, but missed both goals. So they have two players with World Cup experience, we have three or four who have substitute appearances for the first team under their belt. They have Coquelin, Bielik, Chambers, Campbell, Caxorla, Gnabry who either have extensive first team experience, or cost big money. Come on you Lion!
-
When i saw their midfield was Coquelin,Cazorla and Campbell i feared it was not going to be our night.Add to that,Chambers also played at centre half for them it hardly seemed a fair match. Maybe Wenger is just desperate to win something
-
Just got back. Ultimately their first team players made the difference but we were on top and looking threatening second half. I like the look of our keeper but the lack of a few inches more could count against him. Easah Sulaiman also looked good at centre half but lacks pace. Thought Lyden, Hale (Vale) and Niall someone put in a decent shift too. Not sure if Green was carrying a knock but he was poor. Lively stuff from Sellars but could've just another Sinclair. And I did like the front two Of Kienan ((Davis?) and Audrey Hepburn.
Can any of them make it? Not sure but the keeper will go on somewhere probably lower league and Hepburn is the only other with a shout for me.
Oh, and again, I doubt the Arsenal fans expected to have Villa fans singing for an U21 match. Impressive stuff.
-
I managed to tune in at 70 minutes when it was 1-2. We were largely taking the game to them and should have scored.
Hepburn-Murphy does look a real handful.
-
Whilst it's within the rules their team had over 700 first team appearances to our 7.

Saw a lot of whingeing about that on Twitter, but ultimately if they have a squad so packed with talent that some of them need to get game time in the stiffs and our only fringe players are so utterly shite and toxic that you wouldn't want them anywhere the developing youngsters then it's hardly Arsenal's fault is it?

when the competition is called U21 and they've started with Cazorla(31), Coquelin(24) and Campbell(23) who all have plenty of experience at first team level (I have no issue with Gnabry and Chambers being in because they're age appropriate) is does feel wrong when you compare it to our genuine U21 side. I know it's within the rules and I understand why they've put those rules in but it does make the U21 tag a bit of a joke.
-
Especially as it's an end of season game. Yes, it's a play-off but ultimately meaningless. These games are about teh development of the kids rather than playing players to win which Arsenal's team selection smacked of.
-
It was only rebranded as U-21s as an attempt to make it look like it was some sort of development league and a way to bring young English lads through to first team football when in reality it is still the reserves and the big clubs all farm their really promising youngsters off to their "feeder" clubs abroad.
People have only got a bit excited about this game because of the dismal season we have had and it was seen as some sort of silver lining if the kids got a promotion. It's the stiffs, it doesn't matter.
-
We've let Lewis Kinsella go, saw him a couple of times and he was the stand out player without being completely convincing.
Good luck to the lad.
-
Our under-18s have played two, won two in their Hong Kong Soccer Sevens Group. Both wins against Asian teams. Play Newcastle in the final group game. Not sure if already through or if it's group winners only as the website is somewhat difficult to navigate.

Cam has been awarded Goal of the Season for the U14s v Norwich City.

Into the final, just heard that Villa beat Wellington Phoenix 2-0 in the semi final (who had beaten Leicester 2-1 in the Q/F).

God we have won something!!!!
Yeeesssssss ...we have !. Well done the Babbies!, Champions of the Hong Kong Sevens............Godzvilla!
-
Some of these kids should have been given a chance over the past two months, hopefully that'll change next season. It's been said a million times on here but Black really is an idiot for carrying on with the likes of Bacuna.
-
Championees!
-
Thanks for the link. That was great.
Some impressive kids in the youth system at the moment.
-
Brilliant. Very well done, great to watch.
-
That was great to watch.
Impressive play all round, including the lad who stepped up as goalkeeper.
H-m's goal was special.
So was Harry's.
-
Thanks for the link Mal.
Very enjoyable and I had forgotten what it was like to see Villa win.
-
Can Tone claim this as his first trophy? ;)
-
Really enjoyed it as well, well done.
-
Can Tone claim this as his first trophy? ;)
He will talk about it all week!
-
One week in charge and Dr Xia has already conquered Asia. Europe next, please.
-
Well done Villa Youths, it is great to see a Villa team play so well and win a trophy Might only be a 7 a side trophy but i bet Newcastle and West Ham wanted it just as much as Villa .It is always nice to get one over the porno pair and Brady
-
Hong Kong eh? Almost home games for us. Well done to the youngsters.
-
I thought Sarkic looked a bit of a wimp when he was injured, poor guy dislocated his shoulder
-
Well done the Villa youngsters

I know they're only kids (and I guess I'm getting old) but fuck me, they look young!! Well done you Villa boys (literally!!). Great start to a new era.
-
Top work, Yoots!
This is a good sign.
-

Saw him at the Arsenal U-21 game and have to say thought he looked very impressive.
-
Grealish has scored for the England U21. It's 1-1 after some shocking defending let Guinea take a very early lead.

Got a 2nd just before half time 4-1 now, he's looked very good (as has Redmond).
-
Couple of losses to Everton and Yeovil Town for the Women's team.
The Everton game featured their players being fairly unpleasant to the Villa fans on the sidelines - questioning the reasons men were watching women play football. Idiots.
Could see a change in goalie in the next few matches as there were some poor mistakes at Yeovil - two nil up, lost four two.
-
To be honest the one area of the very few bits of women football that I have seen, the goalkeeping is of a very very poor standard in comparison to the strides the outfield players have made.
-
Yeah, my daughter (she's nearly 7) got very upset about 18 months ago that we only watch sport with men in so we've taken to putting the womens football, rugby and cricket on for her. As Peter says the big difference between the mens and womens game in Football is the quality of the goalkeepers (in cricket it's the fast bowling but in rugby there's no single aspect that drags it down, just less power really). Any shot hit with decent power that isn't straight at the keeper tends to cause problems.
-
She wouldn't see much variance between the quality of keeping at a women's game than some of the stuff we've seen down at B6 the past couple of seasons. Brad's got a gallery of howlers to rival the worst of anything that women's football has to offer.

Oh no, yo have to watch it, the amount of shots that seem to go straight through them is frightening.

To my eternal shame, I read that last post and instantly thought of at least half a dozen misogynistic quips.
My biggest problem with women's football is the pace has always seemed like watching the 1970 world cup.
-
1870 more like. Hur hur hur

I don't mind that, so long as the skills are good it can be good to watch and the game has really come on in the last few years, it's not as far progressed as the rugby though where the womens game is really good, Maggie Alphonsi was a genuinely superb back row with all the aggression, skills and tricks you'd expect in the mans game.
-
Women's football is best at just slightly below the top level, they pass it around and play decent stuff.
At the very top level, the US and the Germany teams, they play like Pulis-era Stoke with one big, tall player up front who wins everything in the air.
All the goalkeepers are shite though.
-
"Shite you say..."

Not sure where Borg originates from but looks like a young version of John Gidman - if only he could have the same impact.
You're right, I was about to describe him as a 21st century John Gidman, as not only does he have the skills of Giddy, he looks a very physically strong lad. We got him from West Ham, who fought off Man Utd and Chelsea to get him.
Interesting piece on him here (http://www.90min.com/posts/3623203-why-oscar-borg-is-the-left-back-aston-villa-need-this-season?utm_medium=share&utm_source=fotmob).

Could someone please explain why the fair play rules mean that we may lose promising young players whom we want to keep?
