Title: England's #HomeOfSport
Post by: Russ aka Big Nose on June 14, 2015, 11:44:49 AM
Visit England have a campaign to identify England's Home Of Sport and I would have thought the statue of William McGregor, as founder of the Football League would have been a good choice - or perhaps the gas lamp monument in front of the Holte.

Certainly it has to be a better option than some plastic fan posting the 'Theatre of Dreams'.

Details here: http://englandhomeofsport.com/

I would post something myself but I don't have a picture of either and (being based in Bristol) it will be a few weeks before I am back in Brum. Cheers.

In the year that marks the bicentenary of the Battle of Waterloo, perhaps the winner should be the paying fields of Eton?

Maybe, but not for me.

The McGregor statue connects a famous English club in the biggest league with the founding of the what is the oldest competition (of its kind) in the world.

With football the global game it is, I think that is a decent reflection of a 'home of sport' for England (and recognises the contribution of other nationalities as William McGregor was a Scot).

If you are celebrating England you're not going to indirectly celebrate a Scot however important he was to the English game.

Good man - though I think it will need the hashtag as well as being posted on Twitter or Instagram to count in terms of being shortlisted for the public vote and whoever posts it possibly winning a prize.

Cheers.
