As we recover from the carnage on the pitch yesterday I just wanted to congratulate the club on yet another demonstration of their class. The scarves and flags were again another example of the right way we do things in so many ways off the pitch.....
Now if we could just have some cash for players please......

Poor consolation, but I agree
-
the Claret scarves were to dark, more burgundyish
;D
-
Pity about the wankers who felt the need to pinch scarves and flags from other seats.
-
Yeah, the scarf thing didn't work. From my vantage point next to the press box I could only see blue scarves when held up.
-
I want a written apology signed by them all.

I want the head of Tom Fox. On a plate. A gold plate.

At the moment I just want the entire squad, the entire management, Villa Park, Bodymoor Heath, the team bus, the programme sellers and everything else connected with the club to sod off forever. No doubt I'll renew this week.

A great gesture by the club, but if you really stop and think about it, putting something of value like a scarf on seats is asking for them to be swiped. Far better to use something of no value, like a piece of coloured card, if you want an effective display. The semi-final worked perfectly and looked fantastic, the final was the complete antithesis of that in almost every respect.
-
Thought the scarf thing still looked impressive. The fans certainly player their part yesterday and the club did played theirs with the flags and scarves. Everything was going great right up till kick off.

That's losing at Wembley for you, felt the same every time we lose, all going splendidly well until..........

Was it not an FA thing? - Arsenal appeared to have scarves and flags too

No the clubs paid for them

Difficult to see from my position in block 139 but I got the impression that a lot of our fans didn't know whether to hold the scarves up or wave the flags...only about half a dozen around me held up scarves - the rest were waving flags, so the block of colour that worked so well in the semi - and seemed to work for the Arse end - was lost.
As were our players later on!
Club gesture?
When the players return from their summer break don't let half of the fu*kers back in!

No the clubs paid for them
The Arsenal flags were the same design as ours, so maybe the clubs had to pay for them but it was an FA initiative.
-
Mine got nicked but the guy in front left his. So I technically nicked his.
I'm bad.
-
Ah well if it was it was.
-
I thought it was a nice touch,
That said I saw a fair few flags in bins and the floor towards the tube,
Me on the otherhand kept it, I was determined to get something out of that game yesterday ;D
All be it would have preferred the cup!
-
The scarf on my seat had obviously been nicked ...
-
Even in today's cynical age I find it astonishing that so called fellow villa fans would steal scarves from others' seats. Just disgraceful.
-
It will be how Lerner's time will be remembered. Good at free scarves and flags. Oh and a pub.
-
There were quite a few left behind,
people were just so pissed of they didn't want a reminder of the match
-
I don't want a reminder of yesterday...scarf and flag donated to my young nephews who were unable to attend the game.
-
I left my flag, someone nicked my scarf, I wasn't too bothered (didn't see him take it but the lovely old couple sat next to me were ever so bothered by it) but then the chap sat a few seats away who nicked my scarf got kicked out when he threw a punch at a celebrating arsenal fan when their first goal went in. Scarf was returned to me. Karma is beautiful.
-
Incredibly there was a spare seat next to me. I never gave a minutes thought to taking the scarf from that seat.
-
I don't have a problem with opposition supporters sitting with our support so long as they aren't antagonistic but how come Arsenal supporters were in the Villa end?
-

One of the The 40 odd thousand 'football family' tickets I presume
-

There was a youngish kid maybe 16-17 odd behind us who celebrated when they scored the third. He was lynched by half a dozen brave souls then thrown out admittedly still stupidly making 3-0 hand gestures as he was leaving.
-

Depends where it was.........If its in the Club Wembley area that's to be expected, if its anywhere else then a Villa fan must have sold them there ticket?
-

I was sat in the villa end and just to the right on the other side of the steps, still in the villa end were where the county FA seats were, there were quite a few Villa sat there but no scarves, just flags so at a guess the 800 extra tickets that were sold were put there. Then at another guess those who had county FA tickets, gave them to a few Arsenal fans. First goal went in, a few Arsenal fans jumped up and half antagonised but nothing major, then a small group rounded on them and asked stewards to kick them out. The Arsenal fans knew they were in the wrong, sat down, apologised, but then a few villa fans went to attack them. One bloke threw a punch, missed but half slapped one of them and by that point the stewards arrived and kicked out the arsenal fans and the couple of idiots who used their fists.
-
As said on another thread, there were a trio of apparent Arsenal fans in my block. But even accepting the point - why were Arsenal fans in Villa seats? - the intimidation and violent threats offered to them was absolutely sickening. There was a spare seat next to me, and bearing in mind my other half was sat elsewhere, I could have told her to come to me in the second half. The fact of the matter is I didn't want her anywhere near those c***s masquerading as Villa fans. I repeat, c***s.
And as for scarves, the moment we made it into the ground and we saw some teenage chancer hanging around with two blue scarves around his neck, I took our tickets and rescued ours before the match started.
-
I've sat in the 'home' end at games and wouldn't dream of wearing colours or celebrating a goal (chance would be a fine thing), I can only assume people who do it only have experience of the sanitised SKY version of football. Having said that, any moron attempting to assault somebody really shouldn't be there either.
It is sickening that 'football family' tickets could in effect go to anybody making a mockery of the segregation of fans.
-
The was an Arsenal fan who (over)celebrated the first goal fairly near to us and the stewards seemed unwilling to do very much about it until the situation had escalated.
-
I have no sympathy for Arsenal fans who celebrated in the Villa section.
They new the risks when they chose to break the terms and conditions of the Ticket, if you cant do that then stay bloody quiet.
-

I was in 528 and there were three arses nearby who all jumped up to celebrate the first goal. A scuffle ensued and they disappeared at half-time.
I was surprised that they had the brass neck to wear colours.
-
My lad was in the lower section towards the half way line opposite the tunnel
And he says it got nasty with some Arsenal fans getting thumped for celebrating the first goal
And I can tell you for a fact that the ticket came from my local football club, who are entitled to two tickets from the FA, Aston Villa supporters only is not printed on the ticket
However it does say in small print a at the bottom, just Aston Villa
-
A big thank you to the gentleman who sat across the aisle from me on Coach 29. As well as being great company on the journey there and back he promised to let Freddy have his scarf as we missed out being in Block 530. He was true to his word.
-
Off the field what our club does is second to none. Let's hope they start doing something about the shambles that has been on it for the past five years. The appointment of Tim Sherwood is hopefully a step in the right direction. Fingers crossed for next season.

I had tickets for the Arsenal end but found an Arsenal fan who had Villa section tickets to swap with. The fella I swapped tickets with works as an officer for the Essex FA and said there were several hundred Villa section tickets given to the Essex FA and vice-versa. If the FA are stupid enough to allocate tickets that way, there's no wonder trouble can start.
We were in 528 and there were loads of Arsenal fans around us, a few daft ones celebrated when the first went in and were attacked from all sides, despite there being kids younger than 10 in and around them. Thankfully other Villa fans stepped-in to hold back the a**holes, but then the fighting was amongst the Villa fans. The stewarding was quite frankly, shocking.
We were drinking in the Kilburn area from 11.30, had a great time pre-match but in all my years watching Villa, I still don't understand the fans that get so pissed before the match that all they want to do is cause aggro during the game. In the upper tier, the were three young 'crackerjacks' who refused to sit down and just wanted to fight with anyone who told them to do so.
Despite the performance and result, the idiocy of a few certainly didn't spoil the enjoyment of a good day. It does, however, give me second thoughts as to whether I get a season ticket for the wife and 2 girls (aged six and eight) with so many f**kwits about. We gave up our season tickets when the first was born, and thought next year would be a good time to return. Bright future?

Fucking hell.

I have been giving the club the "V"s and the "wankers" gestures from my armchair for the past 24 hours.
-

Block 529? He got launched down the steps at one point if it was that bloke.
-
Sounds a bit grim.
Won't go into the rights and wrongs of sitting in the wrong seats, that's been done to death, but - speaking as one who couldn't get a ticket, especially - it is really annoying that we have a situation where Arsenal fans get tickets in villa seats via local football associations (and vice versa).
Another example of the hollowness of the term "football family" to go with events in Zurich.
-
I had no trouble, but having been to a couple of games against arse over the decades, I know what complete morons they are, to many times ive seen at Villa Park arse fans wanting to get into the Holte with their colours on, some of these are blokes with women and/or kids if any ones cuynts its the arse fans, perspective would you go to an away match stand in the Stretford end, the kop, don't be daft unless you want to invite trouble, that's exactly what these arse wankas did, so for those saying ooh moronic Villa fans , get real. its up to the stewards to sort and if your stupid enough to stand where there are lots of opposition fans and think its acceptable, you know FA about the football fan.
-
As witnessed when Millwall kicked off, the stewarding at Wembley is lenient to the point of negligence .Drinking to excess and standing throughout is a problem everywhere I feel, but opposition fans in our end is asking for trouble.Time for the FA and Wembley to sort this.Won't hold my breath.

If the good people aren't there that only leaves the fuckwits.
-
It's nice to see so many Arsenal fans cashing in (http://"http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_sacat=0&_nkw=arsenal+vs+aston+villa+scarf&rt=nc") on the historic victory. I'm not sure what's worse. That, or the people spending £30+.

Cracking stuff. Excellently balanced, rational, and shrewdly observed argument.

Also worth remembering you get to choose where you sit with a season ticket, and if you don't like it, you can move.
When I had my ST still, I came to like the people around us. Even if some of them were so doomish, they made the worst on here sound like Seattle Villain.

I had a bit of trouble with a complete Arse i'm 61 but could not stand and watch this complete arsehole chuck a bottle at my son and his pals, i just lunged at him and had him round the
neck, turned out the bottle was a half empty bottle of water. Police intervened after i told them what he'd done they told me to do one and gave this lad a talking to and let him go as well.
Complete prick.

No - this was in 549.
-
I didn't see any trouble where I was which makes a change from the semi in 2010 when I saw numerous Villa fans fighting each other. One of my mates got tickets through Shropshire FA and asked to be in the Villa end which he was. He said there were a number of Arsenal fans who celebrated their first goal. So it would appear you can specify your preferred end with the "football family" tickets but don't be surprised if it's not fully segregated.

That's true, when we had our season tickets previously on the lower Holte, there were a number of morons around us but you grow to 'love them' over the years.

That was right near us and part of the indicent I was referring to. It was however, two Villa fans that went hurtling down the steps. One who was trying to get at an Arsenal fan and his nipper and a big fella who was trying to pull him away.
-

Ah right, cheers.
-
There was also fighting in the stands of block 536.
& nasty set to on the stairway way out of the ground on block L/J
-
I saw a number of scuffles after the game down by the Ibis. Surprised at how few police were around there.

Yes, that happened near to me; crazy, from any perspective.
-
I didn't see any trouble from my block (L 535) but I got dogs abuse about 15 times while sat in the tailgate of my car waiting for my wheelchair bound wife in the blue badge car park which is situated in the Green car park that was designated for Arsenal fans. To make matters worse, Doug Ellis's AV1 was parked just 3 cars from me and I had to watch the arseholes taking the piss having pictures taken with it. I didn't bite but was very, very close

My dad, nephew and Mike Jeffries' mum were all on 29 too.
-
A nice gesture now would be to spend the summer buying players to improve the side instead of fucking around with complete gambles or championship quality fullbacks.
-
Perhaps the FA could punish themselves for their inept ticketing arrangements and inadequate stewarding procedures by fining themselves, say, £200,000.
Oh, hang on...
-
Didn't get a scarf but my flag will go on the shelf next to the Bradford SF flag.
-
Arsenal supporters has similar scarfs and flags in yellow and black. All scarfs and flags were provided by the FA however not sure if they charged the cost to both clubs.
I didn't get mine as someone had taken it from my seat.
-
There is a decent picture of the scarfs being held aloft on Facebook but I'm buggerd if I can post it on here ..

All part of ticket cost I guess. The fans are the "extras" in the movie beamed globally to a billion people . Why they charge kids an average of £60 a ticket is scandalous

That's a great picture -the pre match build up was one of the highlights of the day.We were between a couple of women in their early seventies and a young family and all of them threw themselves into it. It may have been a 'mananged' build up but our end seemed to take it over somehow (but maybe it felt the same at the East End also?)
-
Definitely got right into all that pre match build up -- I think it was very well done because it felt really dynamic where previous pre-match shows have maybe gone for a bit of a 'stately' feel.
Abide with me was going to give it that touch of class, so the crazy pyrotechnics (which actually were really hot where I was!) dancers in claret boxes looking like they'd escaped from the 'Blue Monday' video, and the massive flag running across the pitch were a great addition.
Afterwards I did think back and wonder how I came to be screaming for our flag to get across the pitch first! Bizarre! Whoever put that together did a really god job!
-
Were they supposed to be subbutteo players at the start ?
-
Were they supposed to be subbutteo players at the start ?
It would certainly explain the 90 minutes from those in claret and blue.
-

Same where I was sat, felt like sitting in front of my wood burner

We felt the heat from the flame cannons and we were in the top tier. I got some decent (well for my photography skills) pics of the flag etc but I dunno if I can face looking at them again yet!
-
For somewhere that takes takes great pains to avoid anyone walking on the pitch it resembled Fred Karno's circus
Oh for the days of the Coldstream Guards and dropped spurs.
-
Subbuteo -or, as I prefer to call them -TS figures, are, when used properly far more skilful than mere footballers.
-
I have to say that whilst I enjoyed the build up and wasn't that bothered by it it did feel all a bit manufactured and plasticky. Wave your flag, hold up your scarf, look at the fiery blasts, or here's a big flag of your crest and one of your players, oh look let's throw in a crowd surfer which messed up the scarf display, here's some people expressing themselves through the medium of modern dance with a large aerobics step in your club colours. I know this sounds being hypercritical after the event but we bemoan the gentrification of football well this is what you get. I realise I am turning into an old fart.

I know I had a fair bit to drink but I basically laughed through the whole daft thing - I'm an old fart as well then

For the record, all the paraphernalia is indeed dreadful.

I don't know how old he is but it was all a bit Superbowl-lite. Bring back community singing with Ed 'Stewpot' Stewart and the Band of the Coldstream Guards.
-
I thought the same with all the on-pitch guff.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not about to start penning angry letters to the FA about it, but it was all very glitzy and, well, pointless.
-
I quite liked all the flames and music and all that lot.
It was certainly a more entertaining spectacle than what followed it.

Super Bowl-lite is a very good description.

Yup.
Yup as in he's an old fart, or yup as in you agree, or both?!
I don't know how old he is but it was all a bit Superbowl-lite. Bring back community singing with Ed 'Stewpot' Stewart and the Band of the Coldstream Guards.
Let's be polite and say well into his 40's!
Super Bowl-lite is a very good description.
Yep and it's all a bit unnecessary. They are supposedly there to generate an atmosphere, but the pre-match atmosphere would have been just fine without all that.

i got pissed before the match because our coach get there 7 hours before kick off
i didnt cause any trouble , i didnt argue with arsenal or villa fans
i sat on the edge of my seat so as not to block the view of people behind me
this season at away match i have seen many sober villa fans fighting and arguing with other villa fans about lambert
so lets not get drinkist about villa fans who went to wembley and had a good drink before the match

Thanks for that.
But I've no idea what you're referring to.
Nobody has a problem with people having plenty to drink before the match. It's the people who start fighting with others that people are disappointed with.

I got so drunk I set fire to the pitch as the players were coming out.

You must have imagined it. At no point on Saturday were the Villa players on fire.

What happened to the good old days of blokes dressed as Santa parachuting themselves into the stadium via a corrugated roof.

Is that supposed to be funny? I think it is in very bad taste. Were you there when he crashed into the Trinity Road Stand?

He lived to tell the tale , it wasn't meant in bad taste.
I do recall late 70's possibly early 80's a few matchballs being parachuted in onto the centre circle and as a kid thought that was superb pre match entertainment.
I'm guessing H&S has put an end to all that.

It's in poor taste though. I was in the Trinity that day and remember the chilling sound of him hitting the stand. As a 15 year old at the time is was a horrid thing to watch.
-
Probably not in good taste, apologies to anyone offended.
The story actually had a happy ending - he married one of the nurses who looked after him.
-
He said quickly trying to retreat Omsk

Well, my feeling is that the 'gestures' don't help much, they are just bad luck. Look at the Flags for the Semi v Bradford. The Bright future stuff too.
I appreciate the sentiment but the result is never enough!

Agreed. Next time we have a big match the club should dish out dull grey cardigans to everyone and then we'll walk it.

As soon as I saw the flag I put it under my seat. Last one I had was v Bradford and that didn't work out too well.

Chelsea coaches, was that 0-4 league cup ?
-
Moscow at home 1-1 followed by we all know what.
-
We were also given free Villa flags at White Hart Lane when we played Spurs on their 125th anniversary and we chucked away a 4-1 lead.
