Title: Home v Ipswich Town 2001 question
Post by: Lucky Eddie on May 27, 2015, 07:46:10 PM
One of the kids has asked me about their first game; it was at home v Ipswich and I've always thought that Juan Pablo scored twice; we played them twice at home that year, March and December.

Could anyone confirm the scorers for those matches please?

In the 2000/2001 season we beat them 2-1 on 10th March Joachim got both goals.  We played them again in 2001/2002 on 17th December and beat them 2-1 again, Angel got both goals.

Cheers Karlos, that'll be the December game for the lad then.

I remember Angels 2nd taking a massive deflection and looping over their keeper (Richard Wright?) and Finidi George scoring a daisy cutter from around 30 yards for them... Ask me what happened in the Burnley game last Sunday and I'll struggle, ask me about a game from 14 odd years ago and I'm razor sharp!  :D

I remember both games well. The first me and my dad were so close to Gregory on the trinity touchline, that he responded to my dad's "Need to get some fight into them John", with "Fucking right and all".

The second, we were booed off at HT, even though we'd just equalised

soccerbase.com has a "head to head" filter which is useful for this kind of thing.

I went to the first one when JJ got both goals. This was around the time we were just about to snap up Angel as we were desperately short of firepower. The home match before I think was the game when Ehiogu scored for Boro in front of the North Stand.  The second Ipswich game was on SKY, maybe a Monday night?

The lad can relive the whole game there if he wants!  Pretty easy to find the goals at the very least.

Yeah, Monday night. Awful performance that scrapped a win against Ipswich who were well bottom

I don't think any thread which mentions Ipswich is complete without a thought for Alan Brazil and his side. They came so close to winning the league but, ultimately, failed.

Pretty sure it was 2-1, with Finidi George scoring for them.
