Sat 16 May
12:45 Kick Off
St Marys Stadium
-
Blimey, I was first to vote!
Southampton are on the beach. 2 -1 to us with Jack getting the first, Benteke the second. Somebody for them.
-
0-2
Gabby (2)
-
2-1 to the bastards in Claret and Blue, Grealish to get his first goal and Benteke to get his millionth.
-
The degree of confidence everyone has that we will win this one, which we probably ought to, is making me irrationally nervous. I think we might lose but Spurs will beat Hull and we will be officially safe by 5pm on Saturday.
-
a draw...

Listening to Hull against Spurs on the drive home could either be a pleasant or very stressful experience.
-
3-0 Villa.
Fuck the fuckers.
-
hopefully it will be. For Newcastle fans.
-
2-1 Villa. Form to continue, by the end of the season table, we'll wonder why we were ever worried... Goals for Delph and Benteke, Grealish is clearly saving his for the final.
-
fucker the fuckers
-
2-4 away win.
-
Still mathematically nervous.
-
I wouldn't be devestated if we came unstuck here.
Good runs invariably come to an end, and I'm not sure I'd want to go into the FA Cup Final on the back of four straight victories.
I'd feel much happier to start a new two match winning run after the Southampton match.
-
2-2 draw

Weirdly, I sort of feel that too. However, maybe we could draw the next two matches - 'five unbeaten' sounds more realistic than 'five wins in a row'.
-
Solid 1-1 - Benteke back on the scoresheet, Pelle for them. Then end the season with a home win before our march to Wembley glory!
-
It's going to be an early start for this one!
If we score he first goal, we will win.
-
A nice, slowly-played, thoroughly pleasant, see-the-season-out 1-1 draw, I think.
-
Us, all the way.
They are already on the beach.
-
Don't see us losing and wouldn't be upset with a good score draw.
Possibly bring gabby in for zoggy to exploit lack of pace at CB
-
I hope we smash Saints and Burnley and roll into Wembley knowing what a good side we are.
Them 1 Us 2
-
Ronald's lot may lie down...see below:

-
1-1. Nick Holmes & Andy Comyn
-
I'd like a Villa win and then a Hull win with a Newcastle defeat.
-
A point will see us home then against Burnley I would imagine rest key players
Okore - lets see what the kid Donacian can do
Delph
Grealish
Westwood
Cleverly
Benteke
Gabby
Fuck it rest them all, let then have a week off anything - the cup means everything
-
1-1 Draw for me.
-
2-2.
Grealish won't score until the final.

Very good.
I particularly like 'due to their recklessly excellent disciplinary record'.
-
Them 1 Us 1
If it ain't broke.....
In the meantime though:
-
2-2 we will go 2-0 up n let it slip.
Benteke and Bacuna
-
1-1 Mick Channon for them and Allan Evans for us
-
I'M worried about LeTissier
-
I'm more worried by Mark Dennis.
-
Have they still got Glenn Cockerill in midfield?
-
I'm more worried by Mark Dennis.
Its hurlock that you need to be afraid about
-
Villa win. We're flying, they're cruising. Benteke doesn't have too many off days at the minute so after last week I think he'll bang in a couple.
TC for 4 in 4 is probably a good bet too.
-
Who was our last midfielder to score in 4 straight games? I genuinely don't know.
-

Exactly my feeling for a few weeks now...all good runs come to an end, so do we really want to be going into the Cup Final and to be due a loss?
Southampton are due some kind of result, and we've won a couple on the bounce, so a draw wouldn't be a bad result...saying that, I'd like us to shut the Bitters fans up with their "Pride of the Midlands" bullshit, finish above them and win the FA Cup having given them a 25 game headstart in the league.
-
Who was our last midfielder to score in 4 straight games? I genuinely don't know.
If I was gonna have a guess I'd say Platt.
-
Thanks to some awful holiday planning, this is my last game of the season. I'm expecting liquid football as a South coast send-off.
-
Who was our last midfielder to score in 4 straight games? I genuinely don't know.
Ashley Young? James Milner ? Barry ?
-
No. No. No.
-
Did Platt or Taylor ever do it?
-
No. No. No.
Oooh might have to dig the Rothmans out
-

I don't think you should let it get you that worked up that you have to take up smoking! Just look it up in a reference book or something...
-
Dublin?
-
A very nervy draw methinks.
-
Filled with thd giddiness of recent results I have recklessly gone for an away win. The fact that their goalie looked less reliable than David James last weekend has increased my optimism.
-
I'm unusually confident
They're in bad form overall. Much better form at home but they've had a very easy run of fixtures
They've been playing a central defender or a kid in central midfield and three of their best players are out
2-1 to the vanillans
-
Lionel Martin and the lad Rudge having been playing well in the Central League team. Rest a couple of the seniors for Wembley.
-
Well I can only see Sid got 3 in 3 in 1978 and Lil Lee did the same in 2001. Can't find the one Rothmans I really wanted to check (81/82)
-
Taylor definitely got something like 6 in 7 at one point - around the time we beat West Ham in the league cup after they fielded an ineligible player
-
Who was our last midfielder to score in 4 straight games? I genuinely don't know.
Paul Mortimer.......only joking!

Hopefully we'll still want it a bit more than them. Narrow win and relax.
-
Who was our last midfielder to score in 4 straight games? I genuinely don't know.
Platt scored in 4 successive league games (inc 2 pens) at the start of 90/91 - A quick check through all seasons since and can't another midfielder who's done it although Taylor, Hendrie (twice) and Barry all scored 4 in 5.
Platt's four were v Liverpool away lost 1-2, Man City away lost 1-2 (pen), Cov home win 2-1 (pen), Derby away won 2-0. He didn't score in the next game but did in the two after to make it 6 in 7.
-
The fattest player I ever saw in a top-flight game was in a southampton shirt. Richard Dryden. He ran as if his entire training regime centred on the consumption of hot dogs
-

Yep us to win, then Hull and Sunderland to win and Newcastle lose.
-

Neil Shipperley when he came up with Palace.
-
Steve Moran, Sammy Lee and Micky Quinn were all fatties in their time.
-
Jan Molby circa 1992. Theres yer winner right there. Neil Ruddock put on the pounds a lot too at the end of his career.
-
Tomas Brolin too. Mark Viduka.

Or Bernie Wright when he was at Everton.

I remember Jardel at Bolton.

Then there's Neville

I remember his last professional game for Bradford (against Leeds I think). He'd been drafted in as an emergency. He was huge bless him. Bloody good keeper in his day though.

At least with a goalkeeper they're taking up more of the goal.
It's really poor for a well-paid professional footballer to not keep themselves in good condition. More acceptable back in the day but to do it these days is a joke. See Adriano and Ronaldo amongst others - http://talksport.com/magazine/big-picture/2012-02-12/pics-fat-footballers-including-adriano-huddlestone-holt-ebanks-blake-adriano-and-ronaldo

Even Tommy Johnson and Emile Heskey have scored Villa winners on the south coast. Both at night, though.
-
1-3.
This lot need a slap for losing to Sunderland and Leicester in the last two weeks.
Running scared of us for next season clearly.
-

Were the lights out due to some coucil money saving scheme?
-
1-1 draw. Grealish to score.
-
1-1 draw. Grealish to score.
Would be nice , we will win this though. We have all the momentum.
-
With their results it's almost as if they don't want to get into Europe.
-
Got draw written all over it
4 4
-
1-2 Benteke, Delph
-
3-0 to the Villa
-
Gone for a win. Same reason as the west ham prediction. We need it more, we want it more and we have the quality to get a win there. Imagine there'll be a fair few villans in the crowd on Saturday too
-
Over 3000 Villa down at Southampton this weekend roaring the Villa boys on for 3pts! :)
-
So, we just need to do no worse than Hull this weekend to finally put this relegation malarkey to bed.
Its strange that we are both playing teams who appear desperate NOT to qualify for the Europa league.
I can see both Villa and Hull winning on Saturday, which suits me just fine.
-
I still think it might end in a draw but Sherwood will treat this game like last weeks and the one before where we simply have to win. I don't think he'll step off the pedal until it is mathematically certain that we are safe. And even then Burnley, last home game, full house, lovely weather; Sherwood will want to leave for Wembley on a real high.
-
I'm very surprised that a lot of people seem happy with a draw, when Hull are playing a Spurs side, in very poor form, and are quite capable of getting all 3 points, as they did against Palace and Liverpool. We will then be going into the Burnley game with our fate still undecided, which is the last thing anybody wants.
-
Really tough game this, and I feel it will be more about mentality than anything else. If we retain the same focus and desire as in the last few games, we should win. However, Sherwood has got a really tough job getting the players to maintain that same level of focus and concentration.
Fans on here have started to look towards the future with posts about what side we should play against Burnley before the Cup Final, but hopefully the management and players have nothing else in mind apart from grinding out another win.
Total focus is what we need. In Tim, we trust!
-
It will be interesting to see who's in the squad on Saturday. Gil probably won't be again but I hope Sinclair is.
-
2-2 draw, remain unbeaten for the rest of the season.
-
Nathan Baker is back in training - but he won't be fit for the Southampton game on Saturday.
Tim Sherwood confirmed that the centre-half returned to the fields of Bodymoor Heath this week.
Baker has been out since coming off in the FA Cup semi-final against Liverpool.
The 24-year-old has missed matches against Manchester City, Everton and West Ham with a knee injury.
However, the Saints clash will come too soon for the combative stopper.
But he will be assessed ahead of the Burnley and Arsenal encounters.
He said: "Nathan hasn't trained for too many days.
"It will be too early for him this weekend."
Sherwood also confirmed that Libor Kozak joins Chris Herd and Ciaran Clark on the sidelines.
Striker Kozak has injured his back.
It is not serious - just a "wear and tear" injury.
He, too, will be monitored in the closing weeks of the season.
Sherwood also revealed that Gary Gardner and Callum Robinson have been training with the first team this week.
-
"the fields of Bodymoor Heath"
Epic!
-
Re Kozak, that can often happen when players have been out for a long time - the body sometimes takes a while to re-adjust to the old fitness training regimen.
Otherwise, it would be terrific to see Gardner in the team. Is he technically available for us? He's played so well, so these last two games seem like an ideal opportunity for him to try and take his Championship form into the Premier League.

Isn't he technically on loan till June?
-
Can't see TS bringing Gardner in yet Monty, unless he puts him on the bench.
He'll stick with the guys who have been doing the business for the last couple of months.
Win at Soton on Saturday and we might see a few changes v Burnley.
-
Gardner can't play.
-
That's that then, that is.
-
Ah dammit. Oh well, let's hope we see him next year - been excellent in the 'Carlos Sanchez' role for Forest.
-
I feel physically sick.

I feel physically sick.
You need to pace yourself. At this stage you should ideally be limiting yourself to a vague sense of apprehension. Fridays is dread with occasional spells of self-loathing, sleeplessness and torpor. Saturday starts bright with irrational euphoria before darkening to gloom, despair and anxiety.
Physically sick is for when we're hanging on for hull not to score at about five to five

Captures how I dread it working out, perfectly!
You are a Villa psychological genius damon!
Or just so used to it after years of suffering, you know exactly what's coming, worst case scenario....
UTV!

We'll stay up and win the cup. Stop being such a bunch of big girls! ;D

Still nervous...
-
I simply cannot see Hull winning at WHL
-
Why not? They are fighting for their PL survival.
-
I simply cannot see Hull winning at WHL
Yeah, relegation candidates don't win at Spurs..... oh wait......
-
Why not? They are fighting for their PL survival.
As they were in their last league game. They are shit and we know they are. They will lose 2-0.
-
Before the Everton match I was repeating 'it's only a game, it's only a game' over and over to myself in a calm-the-fuck-down tone of voice. I'm a lot less nervous now, though it could obviously all go tits up still.
-
When did Spurs last lose 3 on the bounce
-
Went to have my hair trimmed a few hours ago.
Steve the Barber is a Spuds fan, one customer was an Everton fan, the other a Liverpool fan.
For the first time in a long time I felt slightly superior.
They all thought we'd win on Saturday and be safe, no problem.
-
Isn't that a great feeling fmwmu? I remember watching Chelsea in a CL game a few days after we beat them and saying yeh we beat this lot the other day☺️

I've just noticed that we aren't 'Magnificent' any more...
I think it's implied by the words 'Aston Villa'.
-
I'm a superstitious so-and-so.
-
More nervous now.
-
Personally, I always felt that the 'Magnificent' was tempting fate a little. We'll need to show humility before the gods if they're going to grant us much more of their favour in the next few weeks.
-
It's worked quite well so far.
-
Anyway it's official now that we are safe. A colleague at work Coventry fan has paid the bet we had at the start of the season and I am £10 richer.
-
It isn't.
-
Can you really expect a Coventry fan to add up correctly?

Told him I'd be having a Grealish after the final, when he'd scored the winner!
Good job that it's a hairstyle that was "in" when I was knocking about down Summer Lane 50 years ago!
Short back and sides, and if the barber didn't take enough off my Mum would march me back to the barber's and demand her full ninepence worth!
On thread...we can do this!

Let's not forget even if we lose, Sunderland and Newcastle could easily lose too and they'd both be further up shit creek than us.

I wasn't, seems like a few people think that they're going to win at Spurs and get a result against Man Utd. My point was even if they do the other two might not pick up any more points.
-
I'm pretty sure we're fine
80-1 is a pretty long set of odds though.

I started fretting when our odds shortened to 'only' 66-1 earlier in the week,
-
Worried ? Put £200 on at 80/1.
-
I no longer have any concerns that the all the teams below us are going to overhaul us now.
-
More nervous now.
I'll make it so for the Match Thread. We are Magnificent. Make no mistake about that.
-
Looks a good draw to me,1-1
-
Saints 1.3 Villa
Channon
Little
Gray
Deehan
-
1-1 Clever lad to score again.

I think we'll win
2-0, benteke and gabby

Not just me then:)
I overheard someone at the Spurs game after we'd scored say "I'd forgotten how much I hate watching us when we're ahead". The sense of imminent implosion is hard-wired in us I think.
-
I would bloody love it if TC scored again.
-
We are not going down
I'm relaxed
-
We will be mathematically safe on Saturday. The only question is, will it be by 2.45pm or 5pm ?

As a Villa fan that lives in Southampton and works with one of their fans this one has even more added needle in it for me. Need those three points so we're not all sweating next week!
Hoping 1-2. Tekkers and Gabby.
Where's everyone drinking before and after?
-
Can you really expect a Coventry fan to add up correctly?
No. Your are right I work with quite a few and they have everything inside their skull except brain cells! I can add up and I have £10 more than I did yesterday morning.
-
Who was our last midfielder to score in 4 straight games? I genuinely don't know.
Athersmith? ;-)
-
Where's everyone drinking before and after?
Well, I'm currently in a Spoons on London Road if that helps
-
We are gona win 2-3
they just did it on Danny Baker and Danny Kelly show with Stuart Pierce,
by picking 45's out of a black bin liner on BT sport, if you picked a punk rock single you scored a goal, pierce picked us 3
Set in stone

Excited about this one, travelling over from Chichester with my friend and fellow Villa fan Rob and meeting three other fellow Villains from Andover in Southampton. Big one for us southern based Villa boys!
-
1-1
-
There is a pub just north west of the ground, name escapes me but it's something regal like The King George or The Lord Nelson. Was full of villa 2 years ago. Last year we just headed into a casino before and after the night game at Xmas time

We're as long as 4/1 to win tomorrow.
I don't think we will win, but those odds are ridiculous for us to beat a team who have picked up fewer points than everyone in the league bar Newcastle over the last couple of months.
-
Sherwood is sending us out to guarantee safety. I'm going to change my vote to a win because he wants to go into next week never having to think about relegation again. And it might happen anyway based on other results, but we are going there confident of winning and scoring against this lot. Put me down for 3-1; Cleverley, Benteke and Delph.
-
If Sherwood is sending us out to guarantee safety he'll go fo the point. I very much doubt he'll let us do it.
Tudo ou nada.
-
Fuck the French fuckers.

Tutto o niente. Tout ou rien. ALLES ODER NICHTS (German is such a pretty language).
Seriously, I think the best way to get a result today would be to go after them. If we get in their faces, make it absolutely clear to them that we want it more than they do, they might just remember how tired they feel and switch off a bit.
-
Can I feel physically sick yet?
-
Fancy us for a 3-1 today, Southampton at home are pretty open and don't think they've kept a clean sheet since Fraser Forster got injured.
They need a bit of a slap aswell, losing to Sunderland and Leicester in the last two weeks. Looks like they want us down as they're scared of us next season.
