Question is this:
Benteke is fit and in form. He is being played as designated target player by his manager and relishing the direkt and improved service by his teammates.
As a result we seen a couple of games he becomes unplayable and the central defenders cant handle him. For example he totally dominated Skertel in the FA semi.
A few defenders though is dirty enough (and helped by the occasional blind refreee) to make him focus on other things a few might also have the ability to cover him fairly.
So whats the verdict on defenders in the remaining fixtures?
West Ham : Collins & Burke
Southampton: Yoshida & Fonte ?
Burnley: Shackell & Duff
Arsenal: Mertesacker & Koscielny
Who can handle Benteke?
-
no one can handle benteke
-
U.S. Navy and SAS.
-
Mills & Boon
-
Would have been interesting to see the Beast against God in his prime.
-
Isn't the only major prem team he's yet to score against here is Man. City.
So that would suggest Kompany usually comes on top in his duels.
-
God + God, no probs.
-
Maldini and McGrath may have had a chance.
-
God and Barson.
-
Micky Droy and Harry Cripps

Ah, the beautiful game......
-
King Kong and Godzilla.

I can't think of anybody. He's built like a brick shit house, but skilful to boot.
*I suppose the shit answer would be "all the ones that played against him earlier this season".
-
George Curtis.
-
Only Terminators sent back in time can save defences from Benteke.
-
As good as he's been recently he won't hurt anyone without the service - so the question really should be which team can get the better of our midfield at the moment?
And put like that it does make you wonder how James Collins will sleep this week!
-
George Curtis.
Always remember the night match against Santos. Pele received the ball with his first touch, swayed past Pat McMahon as if he wasn't there
(the crowd gasped in admiration) and then was faced by the imposing sight of George Curtis. George dealt with this tricky situation by kicking the worlds most famous player very hard and straight up in the air.
George would have dealt with Benteke in a similar manner!
-
He's got everything. Dribbles, long range shots, free kicks, headers, assists, tap ins, volleys and pens.
I'll be amazed if Mourinho doesn't try to get him.
can somebody post me the section on how to do web links? I did see it a little while ago, but couldn't find it on the help section.
edit - oh it does it by magic now

Collins and Tomkins*
*Just trying to jinx them.
-
McGrath and Barson......and then it would be tight :)
** just seen that Percy beat me to it..
UTV
The Doc
-
Paul Lambert did a good job and I would have thought Mcleish would have been another!
-
Paul McGrath, Shaun Teale, Ugo & Southgate all on him at once
-
A brick wall couldnt stop Benteke
-
Concentrate on Benteke and Jack will rip you to bits.
-
Scylla and Charibdis

Collins and Tomkins*

Tomkins is injured, I think. West Ham played an 18 year old kid called Burke in their last game.

It's working already!

That kid, Tomkins, is very handy. He'll have Tekkers in his back pocket no worries. I've put a thousand pound on Villa not to score...

So it's Burke and No Hair.
-
Collins might be out with a back problem and I dont have a clue who they can play beside Burke if that is true....
Even if Collins does play...wonder what its like to go up against the "Hungry Beast" if you past 30 and got an aching back....
-
The Bald Avengers George Cummings and Mush Callaghan.
Failing that Burke and Hare.

I've seen Collins injury doubt quite a few places but nothing from West Ham. Think they'd bring Alex Song back into midfield and push Kouyate into central defence. They might do that anyway and drop the young kid as he'll probably get battered.
-
I haven't seen the game but i presume west hams CB's did a decent job.
-
Collins had a brilliant game today.

Collins had a brilliant game today.
Was gonna say. He's probably one of only a few defenders who will aerially dominate the beast. Collins ate up every cross. He was a magnet today.
-
Yeah, I was going to describe him as a magnet too. As soon as Benteke was named player of the month I thought he wouldn't score today.
Sherwood said he looked forward to Cleverley getting his third in three games and it happened.
-
Said in the match thread that Collins is your bog standard very solid PL CB. In the air, if that's all you do he'll be a match for most forwards. Our crossing wasn't great today and that's partly down to us, and also down to how West Ham denied us space to get quality crosses in.
-
Collins was excellent but we made it extremely easy for him.
-
Collins was excellent today. He'll never be a great footballer but I do get kind of nostalgic for his hoofs up field
-
Benteke seemed off the pace or simply not up for it today. Collins won every ball played into the box with Benteke a few yards behind him in space...it was crying out for Benteke to just get in front of Collins but I think he only did that once and won the ball.
-
Great first half then faded. He deserves a break.

Aerially he was superb today.
You have to play on the ground around him .
