Great stuff, good win, probably should've been more comfortable if it wasn't for shitty refereeing.
Bit of a pisser that Sunderland won, meaning we're no further from the drop zone points-wise than we were this morning, but it puts a few teams below us and with one less game to play.

Great stuff. Six points from matches against Spurs, Man City and Everton is rather impressive.
How many points now does a team need to avoid relegation ?
I am over the moon today, but can we have a normal keeper please? Even if it could be foul you can not concede a goal like that. What did Given do wrong? He had his arm held by Seamus
Even today Pagliuca would be better than Given and Guzan. I mean this Guzan: excellent two seasons ago, good last season, average this season.

Despite a Man of the Match performance for Everton by Clattenburg we still beat him. We played really well and it was a well deserved Victory.
Cleverley and Nzogbia look different players under Sherwood.
Archie love some of your observations but Given gets no blame today.
So much to enjoy about some of the play. I think my favourite was when Delph Zidanishly beat two players in our half, then sprung that pass for Grealish who kept it in with a very cool slide/control. It was like watching a Champions League team at times (though not at the back!).
According to the English law, can we suit Lambert for damages now?
Not only many players appear transformed now and so is the entire team, but we were boring, we never scored and neither shoot to the goal, now we play an attacking, passing, entertaining football and score two or three goals every game with any opponents.
The members of this forum are sharper than the Villa board, then?

I've seen spoons that are sharper than our board, Archie.
We played incredibly well today. Everton are a dirty side, all body checks and hacks. With an acquiescent referee they were able to indulge all afternoon. Everton have a good team sheet, they should stick to playing football. Clattenberg has nothing at all to fall back on, a terrible performance from a poor referee.
The football only came from one team.
We should be safe but we still have a fair bit to do. It's just a shame we do not have Newcastle on the last day, I quite like Burnley.
Would not be fantastic if Newcastle were relegated again?

Agree with everything you said about Clattenberg. Everton were playing on the fact that he was not booking any players. There was a period in the 2nd half when they committed 4 fouls in the space of about 2 minutes, one after another.
What has he said about us.Would not be fantastic if Newcastle were relegated again?
Especailly after what Carver said about us earlier. Seems he's put his foot in it again today, hope they implode.

Whining Scouse fuckers and one cheating ref fucker fucked.

All the pubs in St Lawrence Gap were advertising our game alongside Liverpool v QPR, but come 10.am (kick off time), all channels had switched to the Liverpool game and no-one could get the game on!
Ended up gathered round a table in The Sporting Pig with 4 other Villa fans, straining to hear Talksport commentary on my iPad! So nervy - but at least good to share the experience with fellow Villans all these miles away!
......and well done to everyone who was there - the home crowd sounded fantastic today! We were singing along with you here in Barbados!
Sunderland winning and their game in hand is still a concern but we did what we had to today. Delph was MOTM by far, Nzogbia still needs to do much more for me.Sunderland's game in hand is v Arsenal and 36/37 would be enough as there are 4 teams below us now for 1 position and they all 6 teams play each other as well.
I think this is going to be a 39/40 points safety season.

Another thing, we normally lose or draw these kind of games with the excuse that the ref was terrible, today we overcame it and beat the 12 men. Brilliant.
Great report from Pat Murphy,he said Villa Park rocking again, dubious Everton penalty, fortunate second goal for them. When he boasts about us, you know we played well. Said score line flatterted them.I didn't hear that report but I heard his interview with Sherwood and that was equally good. Tim tried to keep it down beat but Murphy was gushing about our performance.

I can't remember a season where the last few teams are winning so many.
I can't remember a season where the last few teams are winning so many.
I was talking about this just now, if you look at the bottom teams, they're all picking up points and most of them are showing a bit of spirit.
The glaring exception is Newcastle, who have lost eight in a row, look truly pathetic, and have such discord in-house that their manager has today accused one of their players of getting sent off deliberately.

Anyone know if there is a Game of the Day on Sky tonight?
As I mentioned on another thread I'm always baffled when Murphy is accused of hating Villa or supposedly being happy when we lose, that's a massive load of bollocks. Over the years I've heard him say many complimentary things about Villa, I think people only hear what they want to hear sometimes.

I didn't appreciate what an amazing ball it was from delph for the first. It couldn't have been any better.
CLATTENBURG AWFUL.

Yes, we're it.

About 45?
Goal 2 (http://gfycat.com/CheapMeekApe)
Clattenburg attempted to keep the game flowing and to keep his cards in his pocket - they could have been several other cards for both sides but is that what we really want?
How many of us were closer that Clattenburg to both the penalty or the 2nd goal - I guess the majority posting would be in the Holte ........ great eyesight !
We can always disagree with a referee (I know only too well as referee myself) but to read him being slated on here tonite I do think is unfair
Brilliant win. Now Forest's season finished, do we get Gardner and Bent back? Would be useful additions to the squad, especially Darren, who's been scoring for fun lately.
Not having seen the match, can I ask a serious question regarding the referee? Were the questionable decisions the same for both sides?Yes because Clatts tries to keep the game flowing .....

Aston Villa great result, proud of all of you we will remain in this League. You deserve to for the courage you've shown #tk you !
The ref was shit. I can't decide who I want to marry more, Delph, Benteke or Sherwood. So much manlove for them all!

If you need any extra cheer after today, go and have a look at a Newcastle forum. I think it's safe to to say that they're not best pleased and I wouldn't want to be on duty in "the Toon" tonight!
Anyone know if there is a Game of the Day on Sky tonight?
There seems to be a brilliant team spirit around the place as well. Look at the way everybody celebrates the goals, nobody is left out and after Cleverley's goal, everybody seemed to be looking for where Bacuna was, after what was quite possibly the pass of the season.
Are Everton the new Stoke? Awful side, how the smeg did they go on that run? All snide challenges and fouls. As for their 'support' how can so many make so little noise. Zero support for therm when they were behind apart from when they scored, and hardly any of them left to see their second. Utter wankpots, on and off the pitch.
Fine result and looking forward to Match of the Day. Although we need to stop conceding late goals.Shouldn't have counted as Given was fouled.

Yeah, but they've wanted him to sell-up to new investors for years, it's nothing to do with results.
Can someonel please tell me what this bloke is doing differently to the same group of players, the difference is astounding, the whole ethic is a galaxy ahead of what we've seen for the whole Lambert era. Tim Sherwood please in-box me because I have my missus/dog/house deeds/ fishing gear/entire worldly goods at your disposal son.
The way Jack Grealish played in patches today against a team including Gareth Barry it seemed like a Villa protégé handing-over ceremony.
Sherwood has done a magnificent job.hmmmm, you may have a point...

On a separate tack, there were some nasty scenes in Witton Lane around 2.40. A load of Everton 'kids' came down, singing and being a bit leary.
Villa fans going into the Holte then responded, and it turned nasty for a couple of minutes with some nasty scrapping and charging at each other, and no sign of the old bill.
It calmed down after a couple of mins, but it was quite nasty.
It seemed that there were a number of coaches parked to by Aston church, and if these Everton fans were allowed to walk from there to the ground, unaccompanied, being as leary as that, then it's no surprise it kicked off.
The weirdest thing is that these Everyon lads really did look like lads, 16 or 17 and looked like a scruffy bunch of loudmouth chavs rather than a 'firm', and a few of them took a real beating.
Being so close to the ground, it really wasn't very pleasant at all.
We were wonderful today and played some excellent stuff. Clattenberg was awful and produced one of the worst refereeing displays at VP in years.

I saw that too just as I was going in to the Holte -just before kick off.
There was a group of maybe 15 lairy young Everton fans like you say, probably 17-18 years old. An older Villa fan in a short sleeve retro away shirt was standing up to a few of them - he told me one of them came up behind him and punched him. There was a young Villa fan, who only looked about 14-15 who waded in throwing punches like a whirlwind.
As andyh says above, no cops to be seen but what I saw didn't last long.

You must be battle hardened.

He hasn't seen much then. Half a dozen punches and a traffic cone thrown in front of an audience on the steps.
By the way someone earlier asked how many passes there were we had in that spell of two minutes or so. Listening to it on Talksport it said it was 40
You must be battle hardened.
I saw one kid take a flying kick to the head and was in a bad way.
It was the worst I've seen for a long, long time.

What was that all about ? Was he a Scouser ?

One things for sure, we would have been goners by now with Lambo
Just rewatching this game. My god clattenberg was awful. He was inviting everton players to foul more often in the first half, then rewarded them for it when they took him up on the offer in the second.
Scandalous. So glad he is not reefing the final. I have seen him have good games but today he was absurdly one sided.

Are we on MOTD tonight? Our game wasn't mentioned at the start. They're probably gutted we won so leaving us out.
That move we created towards the end of the game was absolute total football. Crowd were superb today, loud and non stop, a wall of noise.
I was there too.Thought we were magnificent.Loud and proud. That move we created towards the end of the game was absolute total football. Crowd were superb today, loud and non stop, a wall of noise.
The Brigada boys seemed to make a lot of noise all game but Elsewhere I thought the atmosphere was average in the first half ( I was upper Holte left side).
Through the whole game I heard the Everton fans once. Very poor support given their good turnout.
Given clearly impeded for their second at the end.Yeah took special interest in both their goals. The penalty decision was probably fair enough, but for their second Coleman clearly held Given down - he had his hand in the crook of his arm and Given couldn't get off the ground. How Clattenburg couldn't see that simply beggars belief
Just watched on MOTD.
Murphy said it was 51 passes and two minutes of possession, although our best bit of football was when we ripped them apart down the right wih Hutton crossing.

Which didn't make it onto the highlights on MOTD. Fuckers.
Newcastle look fucked/ lost the last 5 according to the Graun. Love to see them go again for the comedy value of fat weeping bare chested Geordies.

We'll get the right answer in the end - today was their eighth defeat in a row. It's worse than that they've lost the last 7
I loved Grealish's fake that put McCarthy on his backside, what a player he will be.
Murphy said it was 51 passes and two minutes of possession, although our best bit of football was when we ripped them apart down the right wih Hutton crossing.Yes it was but Hutton made a very poor cross that Jagielka cleared with the Beast prowling on the penalty spot on his own!
Its hardly humble pie though... Cleverly was pretty useless up until 7 games ago.

Impressive marking for Benteke's second. At least Barry was doing a good job to make sure Stones wasn't going to score.

Another decent win and performance. A lot of us said that there was a decent team there and now it's showing. Delph and Cleverley really make the team tick with their energy.
As for the ref, he was appalling bad. The penalty was dubious enough but there was one foul he gave against Benteke which was just ridiculous and telling Grealish to get up after being fouled twice in the space of 10 seconds was just arrogance. Thank god he's not reffing the cup final.

Think we need to lay off Clattenburg a bit, he is by far the best ref in the country right now and one iffy game doesn't change that.We don't have to lay off him at all. I don't really care how he performs against other teams, if he is a shit ref when we play then that's what matters.

Yep, i think 'best ref in the country' is stretching it a bit.
He looked so excited to give them the pen, he couldn't point to the spot quickly enough.
On the grounds of this season I say. Do you disagree with that? Fair enough if so.I just have no idea what you are basing it on. He's been in charge of three of our games and around forty overall.
What month is Sherwood getting sacked again next season Dave? :)He's leaving in March to take the vacant Man Utd job, obvs.

Clattenberg was awful today, but that's ok as it's not like there's anything at stake, give or take Ł60-70m. He normally refs well to be honest, but Everton are exactly the type of team to exploit his ability to turn a blind eye & push things to the limit.
Great team performance, a few moments of worry but we should have been much more comfortable. Delph was immense.

He's a poseur with a strong sense of self importance. No referee should want to be the star of the show, yet he does. And as yesterday proved, he's not a very good referee in any case.

For a long time I think Webb has been, but Clatterberg has been progressing a lot, and based on this seasons form has taken the spot I think.

Yes it was a Liverpool-Everton game in 2007 when his decisions favoured Liverpool greatly.
I couldn't quite believe it took him under 70 minutes to book an Everton player given some of their challenges today.
I did chuckle though when the first Que Sera sera chant popped up today and the Everton fans actually gave that a round of applause for beating Liverpool.
He looked so excited to give them the pen, he couldn't point to the spot quickly enough.

Also, if you watch it back, Naismith does exactly the same to Vlaar just before he gives the pen, i.e. makes contact with the back of Vlaar's leg whilst attempting to get the ball. The most annoying thing is, is that he was letting far worse things go all day long. It shouldn't make any difference where it is on the pitch, he'd set the bar. He's just another in a long line of refs who want to make sure the cameras are on him

He's just another in a long line of refs who want to make sure the cameras are on him
I actually thought it was a penalty and would have been fuming if something like that wasn't given for us. Their second though was a clear foul on Given.
Clattenberg was just awful all day though, no protection at all for either Delph or Grealish. Even Gaz Baz started kicking players who I thought looked a shadow of the player I used to know. Shouldn't have been booed either, that was a bit depressing tbh.
What about the Everton player (McCarthy?) who took a blatant dive in our box looking for another penalty !i spoke to him!!!
Not even cautioned. Not even spoken to !!

Impressive marking for Benteke's second. At least Barry was doing a good job to make sure Stones wasn't going to score.
A coach load of Scoursers came along Witton Lane chanting ' Going down, going down.' They got the shock of their lives when about 5/6 got stuck into them, more got involved as it carried on up Witton Lane cones and cans being thrown.
I know people on here won't like it or agree but I'm glad fans don't come here and get an easy ride.

They don't like us for some bizarre reason, if they're acting disrespectfully outside our ground then they deserve what they got even though I would not condone violence .

Grealish from yesterday :)

Has anyone mentioned that bloody drum yet?
Has anyone mentioned that bloody drum yet?Yea Farage was in there on Thursday before going to the Bartons.
I couldn't hear it in the posh seats.
Watching the highlights, Grealish seems to put in some brilliant balls in for corners. In-swinging and landing in a perfect spot on the 6 yard line right on front of the goal for an attacking header. But with enough curve that the keeper can't make a judgement to come until it is too late.
I couldn't hear it in the posh seats.
I didn't hear it in the cheap seats either?
Something that really baffled me when I saw the highlights was what the hell was Tim Howard appealing for as Villa scored their second? It looked like he was claiming Benteke was offside, it was very oddThat was quite funny. It cuts away to Benteke celebrating, but I think Howard looks behind him, sees the bloke on the other post and puts his hand down pretty sharpish.

We were chatting to a group of 5/6 in the tavern before the game, good lads.
Heard it all the way through the game sat towards the back in K6. Is the drum part of Brigada or someone else?I couldn't hear it in the posh seats.
I didn't hear it in the cheap seats either?
Think we need to lay off Clattenburg a bit, he is by far the best ref in the country right now and one iffy game doesn't change that.We don't have to lay off him at all. I don't really care how he performs against other teams, if he is a shit ref when we play then that's what matters.
And on what grounds is he the 'best ref in the country'?
He's a poseur with a strong sense of self importance. No referee should want to be the star of the show, yet he does. And as yesterday proved, he's not a very good referee in any case.
I like the drum.In fact it should be bigger and noisier.

Des Little, spot on. Clattenburg is a twat, obviously loves himself, and has spent too much time painting himself with quick drying woodstain. In my opinion, only Dowd is worse.
Hey Axi ,you forgot Mike Jones.

I did.
Christian Benteke and Fabian Delph were included in the BBC Sport team of the week after Villa's impressive victory over Everton.
Benteke bagged two in the 3-2 win while skipper Delph was the driving force in midfield.
There are several other players who can seem themselves unlucky not to be picked by judge Garth Crooks, who chooses his ultimate XI at the end of every round of matches.
Tom Cleverley was immense in the middle of the park while Jack Grealish was his usual classy self as he dictated play with his vast array of skills.
Despite that, Benteke and Delph were undoubtedly worthy inclusions.
On Delph, he said: "Here is a player who has found his way again under the direction of manager Tim Sherwood at Aston Villa.
"After his impressive display against Liverpool in the FA Cup semi-final, Fabian Delph got rave reviews for his performance in Saturday's 3-2 win over Everton.
"I suspect football fans from Merseyside are beginning to get sick of the sight of him by now."
Benteke is bang in form in front of goal.
The Belgian Beast has now hit eight goals in six games and is right at the top of his game.
Villa are now 14th in the Barclays Premier League table as we look to win the survival fight and the performances of Benteke are a shining light in that battle at the basement.
TEAM OF THE WEEK: Boaz Myhill (West Brom), Branislav Ivanovic (Chelsea), Gary Cahill (Chelsea), Cesar Azpilicueta (Chelsea), Esteban Cambiasso (Leicester), Fabian Delph (Aston Villa), Steven Gerrard (Liverpool), Jordi Gomez (Sunderland), Jamie Vardy (Leicester), Christian Benteke (Aston Villa)
Steven Gerrard - lol.
Steven Gerrard - lol.Didn't he miss a penalty ?
I saw a woman on Trinity Road selling half and half Villa and Arsenal scarves. I told her it was disgraceful and a lot of people around me agreed. What are they thinking?

Gerrard aside I think Crooks got a lot else right.Only picking ten players should be chalked up as a bit of an error.
As much as I dislike them to see the kos on full flight sing that is decent, I quite like the song. Shame they nicked it.Whhhhhhen you walk

Now therein lies a tale, because while they didn't nick it from Celtic, there's good evidence that it was first sung at another ground. And you'll never guess which club, and in which city, lay claim?

Wasn't it United? I seem to remember there's a claim they sung it first as a kind of Munich remembrance thing.

All the Liverpool fans we chatted to at Wembley were sound, with the exception of one bloke who was sat in front of us.
When they started playing YNWA, it got totally booed over by our fans, and he got all agitated and started shouting about showing "some respect". As if it were a national anthem or something.
What a kernt.

Anybody know what happened in the upper Holte? Looked like it was kicking off a bit around K5.
I am so pleased Richardson was there when John Wayne/Red Adair got his head to the ball at Wembley otherwise it would have been very painful listening to the commentators verbal wankfest!Steven Gerrard - lol.Didn't he miss a penalty ?
That's exactly why he got in. It was the comeback story of one mans failure and fall from grace from the spot, on the back of a red card at Man U and a cup semi final defeat to his heroic winning goal versus mighty QPR. A true Hollywood ending.
Delph brilliant first half, good second half, Jack is growing with every game, the Beast well he is the Beast, Cleverly wow. Keep it going Villa and Clatenburg you allowed Everton to turn back the clock, I thought I was watching Leeds in their hay day with all the off the ball stuff and deliberate consistent fouling.
