Title: Everton: Retro Day
Post by: PeterWithesShin on April 28, 2015, 06:37:08 PM
Quote
Our supporters have designated Saturday's visit of Everton as 'Retro Day' in B6.

To mark the occasion, we're encouraging fans to bring balloons and streamers to create a special atmosphere and get Villa Park rocking.

As founders of the Football League, the club prides itself on its traditional values.

And what better game to celebrate everything claret and blue than the most-played top-flight fixture in English football?

You could don the classic European Cup winning jersey to mark that memorable night in Rotterdam.

There's also the 1971, 1994 and 1996 League Cup final shirts as well as our infamous 1993-95 green away number.

Gear up for this season's FA Cup final with the striped jersey from the 1957 success in the same competition.

Retro graphics will be used on our big stadium screens with black and white replays of the key moments from the clash with the Toffees.

This week's copy of the Villa News & Record will be retro-themed to add to the nostalgia from yesteryear.

Head back to the 80s as 'Theme from an Unmade Silent Movie' will be played before Craig Armstrong's Escape as the players enter the field.

I feel a little sad to be missing this, all the left side right side stuff, Tarzan give us a song.....

Then again, as I am in Barbados watching the cricket, not that sad.

Unfortunately the earliest most retro shirt I still have (and fits!) is from 2000/01 season, so that will have to do for retroness, though have got my coca cola cup winners scarf from 94 so can swing that around!

My earliest retro shirt is from the 1982-83 season with Davenports as the sponsor. It's too small for me now though. Plus a lot of guys have written their names on it with a marker pen.

Will there be those guys with those plastic bin/trays suspended round their necks selling snacks whilst walking round the pitch.

IIRC the plastic bin was orange and they used to sell some crisps called snaxx , which I never saw anywhere else or since.

Withe used to sling his sweaty wrist bands into the crowd at the end, I wonder if Benteke will go retro too?
Can we have the old scoreboard back too? Can't beat the suspense of those numbers being slowly positioned into the windows.

For me it was always the sweet shop outside Wylde Green station spending the loose change I used to find in my grandmother's drawers (no, not those drawers). Sherbert fountains, gobstoppers, black jacks, fruit salads and Hobo banana split chews. And some lemon bonbons for good measure.

Will my voucher on the back of the programme get me a Cup Final ticket?
