Home game against QPR re- arranged for Tuesday 7th April @ 7.45pm - NOT on tv
-
3 days after Man United, 4 days before Spurs. this week could determine our fate
-
Well this was always a must win game whenever we were due to play it - be good to have the points in the bag earlier rather than later !
-
That has put that game in the worst possible place.
Edit - maybe not actually anywhere in April looks pretty bad!
-

To be honest, 3 points against QPR would be worth 6 given that they're direct rivals for a relegation spot. If we beat QPR and lose the other two games 4-0 I would consider it to be a good week!
-
QPR is definitely the most important game, maybe rest any players who are a game away from suspension or have slight knocks against Manure.
-
Win our next two home games (very possible) and things will look a whole lot brighter.
-
Well it's better than having it in the last week of the season - imagine having QPR, followed by Burnley and then (hopefully) a Cup Final.
-
The league have done us no favours there have they.
-
Good news as far as I'm concerned. It looked like the game would be pushed back to May so it looked like slim pickings for April. Now we could be on 34 points by April 8th (well, we could be on 37 if we beat Utd too).
-
The league have done us no favours there have they.
They've put the game on at the first available opportunity, which is the main criteria. We have to play it at some point so whats wrong with then I fail to see.

In the sense I had in my mind qpr being down already by the time we played them.

Which would make no difference whatsoever.

Yep. Get a morale boosting win at Man U, give QPR a battering at VP, then head for the media circus that will be Sherwood vs Spurs and give them a kicking too. Easy.

That's hugely debatable

I know it's difficult for you but how about trying, just this once, to stop looking on the black side of everything and seeing anti-Villa conspiracies in everything from New York to New Year?
-
I will be in England so good news, I can go and watch us win.
-
QPR have got West Brom (a) the previous Saturday, and Chelsea (h) the following Sunday. So they get an additional rest day before their subsequent game (compared with us); but as it's Chelsea they're playing it's not a massive difference.
-
It's the date we'd have had the QF replay if it had been needed, so hardly the end of the world. It's not like they've pulled up a random date just to stitch us up.
-
I'm ok with the date. The danger of leaving it until later is that IF we don't get results against Manu, Spuds & Citeh we could be back in the bottom three, low on confidence and absolutely having to get results under pressure against other teams in the mix in the last week of the season. Win this and we have a bit of a cushion. Lose, of course, and we're back to square one, but playing it earlier at least gives us the opportunity to take the pressure off ourselves sooner rather than later.
-
It's just the way football is these days. Consider that a few years ago only the third and fourth rounds had free weekends and anybody progressing to the fifth and sixth rounds would be required to rearrange the fixtures scheduled for those dates accordingly and because it affected so many teams, nobody perceived this to be a problem. UEFA's instance on the clearing the domestic decks to accommodate the all important champions league exacerbates the issue. Because we are the only team to be affected so far, (and by that I mean the only team with a firm date for a rearranged fixture) it seems people are looking for conspiracies that aren't there.
-
We could be in a position where a win against QPR will take us 12 clear of them with 6 to play.
-
The date seems reasonable. Both teams have a game either side so neither has an unfair advantage.
The stupid Champions League exclusivity rule has done us a favour as I wouldn't want to play them the midweek after the semi when they'd have had a blank weekend.
-
The more matches we can play whilst playing with confidence and whilst used to winning, the better.
-
Is this the night of the Blackburn win over Liverpool?
-
So... who would be in favour of resting players for the prior game at Old Trafford to make sure we're fully-fit for QPR?
*runs for cover*
-
Is this the night of the Blackburn win over Liverpool?
The next day.

3 games in 8 days is a big ask.

A wheelbarrow stuffed with 40,000 notes should soften the pain for the little lambs.

I know. Poor QPR.
-
3 games in 8 days is a big ask.
We played 4 games in 10 days over Christmas and New Year, and this is over Easter, and if I recall my RE correctly someone did something more at Easter than he did at Christmas ;) . Three games in over a week doesn't seem too onerous to me tbh
-
280-290 minutes work in 8 days. My heart bleeds for the little angels.
-
To me perfect timing. Results against swans and Manu and confidence still high, drop points in them two then the 2nd shittest team to build confidence back up. Plus as its before cup allocation completed it may mean a few more in the ground.
-

Wouldn't be so bad if they were full time professional athletes and had some sort of training facility in order to help equip themselves for such eventualities.
-
3 games in 8 days is a big ask.
Just played 3 games in 8 days and won all three
-
Glad it's not last week of season. Safe by end of April.
-
3 games in 8 days is a big ask.
No it's not. It's normal for successful clubs.
-

No, we played 3 games in 11 days
We don't need to take a decision now but I think the QPR game is a must win and I'd be in favour of a bit of rotation if we can. Cleverley can't play v Man U anyway.
It's probably the third game we'll be knackered for but that's a price worth paying if we beat QPR
I'm happy the game is coming sooner rather than later. Although perhaps it's a bbc inspired conspiracy to put the game between two MANCHESTER clubs . .
-
QPR are fucking awful.
I think we'll beatbthem even if the Red Scum batter us

Not really having a dig at you (you just happened to use a phrase I particularly hate) but what happens if we lose a 'must win' game with a month and a half of the season left?
-
I don't mind the game coming on the 7th. Win it and we can look to pull comfortably clear by burnley. Lose it and there are enough games to try and turn it around. Including a 2-1 win at White Hart Lane.
-
If the Villa get relegated it will be nothing to do with the date decided to play QPR at home.
-
We have plenty of attacking options. I would go wih Benteke, Gabby and N'Zogbia at Man United, with Westwood coming into the midfield with Sanchez.
Against QPR we then have the option of brining Cleverley in, together with Bacuna, Sinclair and Gil.
That's enough fire power to do for QPR. If we get a positive result in the next two games, they won't care about being tired, as confidence will be through the roof.
It's a the back that is a worry. As long as Okore and Clark can stay fit. We may need Vlaar with suspensions mind. Hutton is back too.
Why are we concerned about this game again?
-
Against Palace on Saturday QPR did a very convincing impression of a team who have already thrown in the towel.
-
Great time to play them. Have faith in our boys.
-
QPR are fucking awful.
I think we'll beatbthem even if the Red Scum batter us
I think we'll beat them even if we drove back to VP straight after manyoo, and played them then, let alone after 3 days off.
-
Breaks up a tough trio of away games with a home one. Bring 'em on.
-
3 games in 8 days is a big ask.
Hopefully Vlaar, Senderos, Cole & Kozak will all be available by then boosting our options.
-
I was saying to my mate at work today that we need to arrange this game as early as possible, while we've got a bit of confidence. It's possible that April could knock that a bit, given the other games. So, content with this date.
-
How does the TV allocation work, if it was down for a TV game initially how come its not anymore? Are there some champions league games it clashes with or something?
Has any other fixture been selected from that weekend to become the Monday night game instead of ours?
-
3 games in 8 days is a big ask.
Sunglasses indoors par for the course, collar popped like Cantona etc.
-
Checks diary.
- School Open Day Day
- BE's birthday Day.
- Funeral QPR Day .
Day don't get much better dan dat do day?
(Sorry for cod Paddy accent but I was on the Guinness last night).

I think this tight scheduling thing is just something we will have to get used to being a successful premier league team on the hunt for trophies every season

We might as well get some practice in given we'll be playing Europa league football next season.

And champions league the following season, ticket hunting is going to turn nasty
-
We'll be safe by then and we'll smash em for good measure, (I never thought I'd say that a few weeks ago)
-
Sounds ok to me, my birthday so can celebrate here in the desert with a nice pint or 6.
-
Looking at the fixtures I think Premier League should make us play next Monday (23rd)
-
I bought two tickets for this yesterday only £44 not bad I thought ..........except today there 2 for £30 !!!
-
A great date for it. I am away for Easter weekend and we always smash someone when I leave a holiday and head to the football.

Fuck off twat. I've been a Villa fan, and a better one, than you for a lot longer. Any tickets for 5 a game fans sees me first. Come Real Madrid at home in the semi-finals I DEMAND my Villa loyalty gets me a ticket over anyone else. Save some season ticket holders, not all. The right-side of the Holte are still fannies in my eyes and don't deserve tickets to anything.
-
If I don't get tickets for the World Club Cup Final I'm unleashing a gang's worth of stabbings on all you part time, thirty-games-a-season bastards.
-

Some younger fans may not have heard of two or three of them. Some older fans may not remember them.

Why are we concerned about this game again?
The main concern is getting enough defenders fit and - perhaps more importantly - clear of yellow / red card bans.
Clark's one negative for me has been his propensity to pick up yellow cards and we'd miss him if he were out.
-
A friend is trying to buy 2 pairs of tickets in the Upper Holte Wings as part of the £30 for 2 ticket deal. Apparently this is an online deal only but he's unable select seats to buy 4 tickets in a row as the ticket automatically assigns pairs of tickets giving no choice of seats. Does anyone know a way around this or if the ticket office would take the booking over the phone?
-
I know it isn't far away but am hopeing that we might be viturally safe by this game. I do fancy us to beat them at home anyway.
-
Happy this game is now sandwiched between United and Spurs as if we get a win I fancy the confidence to get us something at Spurs. With at least a point today we'd be pretty close to safety.
I was wondering did they consider playing this on Easter Monday at all? I know it's only 48 hours after the Saturday games but a lot of the players would've had a break anyway from the two week internationals coming up and we'd get a bigger crowd than on the Tuesday evening.
-
Pretty crucial that we win this one.
-
Need Everton to beat qpr tomorrow
-
Bought my ticket for this yesterday. Back in the (cheap) posh seats for this one.
-
Hopefully Everton win tomorrow, but this is getting towarda must win.

I remember lots of people declaring Bolton a few years back a 'must win'.
It's the most meaningless phrase in football.

Well it's not, because obviously there becomes a point where a game is must win. However I'll rephrase to very important to win.
-
According to SKY's site - this game IS live on TV - anybody know what's happening ?

Got two tickets for £30 as part of the promo deal - nailed on Villa win - my win ratio is 100% in the North Stand
-
This game really is massive. Need a big atmosphere for this one but I fear it could be a crowd of sub 30,000. 2 adults for £30 deal in North Stand is on until midnight tonight which should help a few people out.
-
The atmosphere will be sound,
remember the first game against olbiyon atmosphere was emense and was not exactly full house that game.
us who attend will big up our gobs :D
-
Hopefully with it being being played during the Easter break it'll atttact a big crowd. The atmosphere at the Swansea game was as flat as a pancake so we need to improve on that.
-
the caveat is that the team has to turn up too.

Night games tend to be more atmospheric down B6 for some reason.

I'm certainly noisier at them, as I've usually had a few pints before the game.

I got that deal but in the Holte End Upper.
I've been in the Holte Upper less than 5 times this century but Villa have always won.

Sky will no doubt come up with some quirky strap line for the game . Wankers that they are. "Telling Tuesday" or something like that

I'm treating my Qpr mate for this game in the trinity restaurant and padded seats so please let's have a good atmosphere folks.
Won't be able to sing as I will have a mouthful of prawn sandwiches

It's not shown as being on when I check the programming guide. Sky already have three football matches on at that time. I think the listings maybe incorrect, they may have just copied and pasted it from before it was postponed and not double-checked that it is actually on.
Sky list Villa v QPR highlights at 10pm.

tremendous tanked up whilst three nil up Tuesday
like u all ill settle for a 1-0 in off the referees arse tuesday.

no worries,
olbiyun r going to soften them up for us
-
Is it me, or have the last few times we have played them at home come around this time of year with us both in trouble? I remember going 2-0 down to them (Warnock's own goal was ridiculous) and then coming back to draw 2-2, and then there was the 3-2 win the season they went down.
-
Sillhillvilla
Yes mate he's a diamond seen villa play at the Emirates 2 times ,villa chelsea 2010 semi england v Poland etc all from the playboy executive box all down to him

The 2-2 was a January game as Cisse was signed the day before and predictably scored on his debut. We weren't in relegation trouble at that point of the season.
That 3-2 game back from a few seasons back....christ I was physically shaking at the end of that one. I still remember Clint Hill's strike from the edge of the box just going over the bar which was the last kick of the game. Probably would've gone down if that had gone into the top corner.
-
fuck the olbiyun
-
Didn't we have two successive 3-2 wins over QPR and Reading? That QPR result was insane. There was so much riding on it. Hopefully this one will be far more comfortable.

Reading was 2-1
The three two was a cracking game. Great atmosphere and probably in my top ten ever for pure excitement and the frenzy when Christian scored the winner

There was about seven minutes added on when we beat QPR at VP. I was going up the wall.

I think it was five, because a mate of mine thought it was highly amusing when he watched the highlights to hear a whole ground shout "foive?!"
-
We really have to win this now.
-
QPR will be really confident too.
-
There might be a touch of overconfidence there now. First goal is vital, but I think this has to be a three goal 'fuck off and don't come back' win for Villa because the atmosphere will be as tense as it's possible to get.
-
We have to really go for it like the first half against west brom in the league
The team will almost pick itself if Sinclair is out. I think is revert to the diamond again
-
As long as we don't gift them a two goal lead we'll win this one.
-
QPR will be really confident too.
for a team that has barely won an away game today was huge for them. that said to expect them to do it twice is a bit ask and we should be more desperate than them in front of our own fans. A six point gap should be all the motivation we need to get a win. The fans will play a big role. I hope we have a good turnout and a much needed win ahead of two more really hard games.
-
They'll beat us.
-
QPR will be really confident too.
A bit like we were against Swansea after bearing Sunderland 4 -0 ;D
-
Any possibility that WBA effectively threw the game today?

Dont be daft. They arent in a great position themselves
-
The atmosphere will be one of nervous tension, let's hope we can grab an early goal to settle the nerves.

Nah. They'm just shoit.
-
Tuesday's game could make or break our season. Given our upcoming games after QPR, it's a must win.
-
Any possibility that WBA effectively threw the game today?
Yes I believe so.
They did this sort of thing last year and the year before too.
-
What about all the games Villa have thrown this season in that case?
-
squeaky bum time. Desperately need to win this game. A draw wouldn't be a disaster at the moment. It's still in our hands though with QPR, Burnley and West Ham still to play at home.

& Everton who are safe now and saints who have not a thing to play for.
-
To get a new owner(or owners) we have to stop up. After watching that performance I cannot have much hope. Perhaps Mr Lambert is not the
great saviour of our club after all.

None at all

Do you genuinely believe that? They're not safe yet, and even if they were each league place is worth the best part of £1m.
How would that work anyway..?
Players : Boss we've decided to lose on purpose today to piss Villa off.
Pulis : Oh go on then, just this once. Best not tell the chairman though. You little tinkers.

Well, apart from European qualification.
-
This "Albion threw it" stuff is as small time as it gets. There is zero chance 11-14 professional footballers are going to throw a game to possibly cause problems for another club that the vast majority of them don't give a shit about.

How did they throw it last season? They won 4 games in total after November 2nd. They were just shit whoever they played.
Season before that they won 4 after Boxing Day, same again.

In any other situation I'd agree with you but this is Albion and normal rules don't apply.
-
No, WBA went for it and that was their problem. If WBA were still in the mire, they would have won that game. I bet heavily on them to lose based on this.
This is where the random part of the league comes in: you can be playing a very different opposition team depending on when in the season you play them.
In this phase, QPR might as well go for broke, there is little to defend. They have the players to do it if things go their way.
We on the other do have something to defend in that if we maintain the status quo, we will survive.
On the balance of probabilities we will escape the drop, but the fact that we are still involved means some bad luck could still see us go down.

Can be either. But Tony Scott is quite correct in using inquiry in this instance.

If I hear Barton bossed the midfield on Tuesday ???
Fork me villa why do you do this to us. Not sure my heart is up to watching it .
-
No surprise they battered the Albion. The Bitters are shite and so are QPR.
-
No surprise they battered the Albion. The Bitters are shite and so are QPR.
Exactly. We lose to Utd and QPR win and all of a sudden the end is nigh.
QPR are shite hence their league position. We can beat them
-
We have been shite this season. That's why we have 28 points from 31 games.
I really don't think we should be apportioning blame to Albion or any other club for our predicament. Rather be thankful that there are 5 others clubs as rubbish or slightly more rubbish than ourselves.
-
Our run in is better than most down there, 4 home, 3 away. 2 of the home games are against teams statistically below us and Everton and West Ham have nothing to play for.
If we can't do enough from here to finish out of the bottom 3 with a 3 point head start and this run in the we really will deserve to go down.
Fed up to be here AGAIN though.
-
I would put Okore at RB for this match. Vlaar and Clark in the middle. A must-win game - I'm going to be optimistic and say 2-1 Villa.
-
That Swansea result was the massive disappointment for us . Not yesterdays and not qpr win , its not picking up points against Swansea and stoke .
-

Indeed. This is why the QPR game Tuesday is the biggest game of the season so far.

I don't know Swansea are a good team it was always going to be a hard fixture, but even if we could have held on for a point it might have made a big difference to the mood, and would have been something at least.
I am less confident of this fixture after QPR's result and performance yesterday, but they are terrible travellers in general and this is the sort of game which I think Sherwood will really have the players up for. So I think we will win, but with maybe a few nervy moments.
-
Mervyn king said supporting the villa is more stressful than running the Bank of England. How right he was.
This club has taken me to the highest of highs and lowest of lows please villa just a couple of seasons of mid table mediocrity
-
Not looking forward to Tuesday at all. They're a better side than us and will be on a high now.
-
Not looking forward to Tuesday at all. They're a better side than us and will be on a high now.
I don't think they're a better team than us at all. They've been below us all season, and that tells you everything.
It'll be tough but we'll beat them.
-
Not looking forward to Tuesday at all. They're a better side than us and will be on a high now.
They're not a better side than us otherwise they'd be above us.
-
Yeah, they're not a better side than us. More direct or enthusiastic, maybe. We're clear favourites regardless of yesterday's results. Doesn't mean we'll win though.
-
so if burnley and Sunderland both at home win today we drop into the bottom 3
-
That is why we must pray to Jebus.

So we won't be in the bottom 3 then.

Speak for yourself. I can't wait for Tuesday. I heard all this stuff 2 years ago when Sunderland smashed Newcastle and beat Everton and people were predicting Armageddon when they rocked up to VP.
That was a great night under the lights and Tuesday will be too.

QPR winning the Baggies game is probably the best thing that could happen to us. They'll be confident but they're probably doomed to get pegged back again.
-
Looking at the seat thingy on the tickets section of the web site, I reckon this'll be our lowest gate of the season.
-
But we need it to be our highest.
-
Looking at the seat thingy on the tickets section of the web site, I reckon this'll be our lowest gate of the season.
Sad isn't it? Our biggest game of the season now and people are only fretting over Wembley tickets. I expect a large turnout from QPR, seeing as the club have subsidised their ticket prices.
-
You wonder if it'd have made better sense to put this on easter Monday. Shorter recovery time I accept but a much bigger crowd.
I see Vargas went off just after scoring for QPR yesterday, he's played well at times for them this season so is that a bad injury?
-
I'd love to go, but Tuesday night 200+ mile round trip? No can do I'm afraid.
-
QPR won't bring any more than 1500, I reckon.
For years they used to have the most pathetically small away following of all the London clubs.
-
Looking at the seat thingy on the tickets section of the web site, I reckon this'll be our lowest gate of the season.
Still looking better than it did for Southampton.
-
The only things I can see on the QPR site is this "INITIAL ALLOCATION 530 UPPER TIER TICKETS: Adults will pay only £27 (£10 discount) for the trip to Villa Park, £24 Seniors Over 65/Under 21’s/Full Time Students/Members of the Armed Forces, £8.00 for Under 18 and £7.00 Under 8 (£5 Discount)"
And also this "INITIAL ALLOCATION 890 UPPER TIER TICKETS: Adults will pay only £27 (£10 discount) for the trip to Villa Park, £24 Seniors Over 65/Under 21’s/Full Time Students/Members of the Armed Forces, £8.00 for Under 18 and £7.00 Under 8 (£5 Discount)"
No mention of further allocations, but who knows as they can't seem to make up their mind what their allocation is.
-
Mr Shin.......... how about converting this into the Pre-Match thread ?
-
I've had a look and they're not selling any more, probably due to the bank hols. It says that away fans can pay at the ticket office next to the away end, so looks like Paulie's right about the shit turnout from the visitors.

Prayer mats out. We need to start strong and really go at them. Hope Sinclair is playing and we get in crosses early and often to Benteke. Home win is absoluble must. No excuses not to beat this lot.
-
Apparently QPR "got lucky" as pretty much every shot was a goal according to a Baggies supporting friend who went to the match yesterday...they haven't managed an away win all season so can QPR get lucky twice with 2 away wins under their belt in 4 days?
-
As we have known for weeks, there will be ups and downs and twists and turns right to the wire. Players and fans alike, we must make sure our metaphorical balls don't fall off and roll under the settee from now until the run-in.
-
Maybe not must win, but about as close as you can get without it being mathmatically essential.
-

I wouldn't take your mates word as gospel.
-
No excuses not to beat this lot.
They're probably saying the same and with more reason than we have right now. They seem to be playing with confidence and even though it was only the Baggies, they absolutely hammered them.
-

Neither would I. You can never beat Albion, only score more goals than them.

12 shots, 7 on target. And they won away at Sunderland in Feb.

They probably got lucky when they beat the Bitters at Loftus Road as well.

But as we saw ourselves confidence only goes so far. We battered Sunderland and followed that up with a defeat to Swansea. We need to do our thing and not worry about them.
-
Playing with confidence? Their last 12 games is W2 L10.
-

Did your mate mention how QPR were taking the piss and their fans were shouting "Olé" as their team toyed with the Baggies?
I hope Sherwood finally strengthens the midfield but right now I don't see us beating them.
-
The league have done us no favours there have they.
They've put the game on at the first available opportunity, which is the main criteria. We have to play it at some point so whats wrong with then I fail to see.
Just been looking at the fixtures for the rest of the season and Arsenal's game against Sunderland which was scheduled for the semi-final weekend has been moved to the 20th May.
-

They also beat Sunderland away. Ramsey's only two wins have both been away. But I agree, twice in a row is unlikely. I can't see them beating us.
Likewise I don't think much can be read into Sunderlands result. They're a fucking awful side but their record against Newcastle has actually been decent in the last few years. Even Di Canio managed to beat them. They'll probably be fuck awful again next game.
-
Really looking forward to the game although I see the Despair Squid from Red Dwarf has been running amok! Six pointer under the floods for a mere £15 - does life get any sweeter?

Is that the male or the female squid? If its the female at least we'll be duped into thinking everything is great!
-
Just what we need is Timothy Spall making an appearance.
-
If we can't beat qpr at home we probably don't belong in this division.
-
Us 1 Them 1
The table looks bleak and so does the rest of April :(
-
We must win the midfield battle, that means keeping Sandro shackled down.
-
Nervous Villa, a bit more spirit from QPR and a bit less pressure on them as the crowd will probably get on the teams back if not doing well quite quickly. 1-2 QPR
-
This should have been a separate thread.
-
We must win the midfield battle, that means keeping Sandro shackled down.
If we actually have enough players, I'd consider playing 3 in midfield. Sanchez has been poor but I think QPR is one side who he might do well against as they lack pace and can't pass it round us. This won't be a game of shadow chasing on our part.
I'd sit Sanchez and not having him doing to much chasing, just guarding in front of the CH's. If he chases the ball carrier too much he's normally a day late getting there, so he can let them try and get round him instead. I'd also have him helping the CH's deal with Zamora's aerial threat.
-
I would not have Sanchez anywhere near the starting XI .
I'd play Delph and cleverly in the middle with Nzogbia and westwood or sinclair if fit if not play Bacuna.
-
We badly need to win this game. Yesterday's result doesn't make them a good team.
-

This thread may well morph into other more desperate and devious threads. Seminal, so to speak.
-
I'm in no position to criticse people not going to the game as I rarely so nowadays that I live in the South East
But If Tuesdays attendance is poor then that would be desperately disappointing.
-
FFS I've just read that cleverley is also a big doubt for this one
I've got a bad feeling about this game
-
Sherwood has been hit very early on with the Villa injury curse. Looks like it could be Lowton Vlaar Clarke Baker across the back but I would be very tempted to play 352 with Vlaar Okore and Clarke, Lowton left and Bacuna right. Delph Sanchez and Nzogbia I'd Cleverley doesn't make it with Gabby and Benteke up top. They will come with 2 big centre forwards and have a go.

If we can't beat these fuckers at home then we probably deserve to drop. Until such time as I'm trudging back to Aston station through a slough of despond on Tuesday night, I'll treat this as an expected three points and another step towards safety.
Turn up.
-
2-0 home win, I hope.
-
Overhead kick from Yorke in a 4-2 win
-
So we've got the centre halves back but now have serious full back and midfield issues. Terrible timing as we really could of done with hutton, cleverly, Sinclair and westwood for this crucial game.
-
So many players getting injured playing on their ps4's
-
No Sinclair, Westwood or Hutton, so i'd play Grealish because Zoggy is far too inconsistent for my liking.
DF: Lowton, Vlaar, Okore, Clark
MF: Grealish/Bacuna, Cleverley, Sanchez, Delph
FW: Gil, Benteke
Never gonna happen but I like it.
-
No GK? Brave selection!
-
I'm overly sure who's in or out so feel free to point out any that are injured but i'd go with this.
Guzan
Bacuna Okore Clark Lowton
Delph Sanchez
Gil Grealish
Gabby Benteke
-
That looks incredibly lightweight down both flanks
-
Out:
S Sinclair Hamstring Injury no return date
A Westwood Hamstring Injury no return date
A Hutton Ankle/Foot Injury no return date
A Cissokho Groin/Pelvis Injury 11th Apr 15
K Richardson Calf/Shin Injury 11th Apr 15
C Herd MCL Knee Ligament Injury 1st Jun 15
P Senderos Calf/Shin Injury 7th Apr 15
L Kozák Broken Leg no return date
-

Looks incredibly attack-minded to me.
I'd play Cleverly in there somewhere.

I thought Cleverley was out injured for some reason. I'd probably find room for him somewhere as well in fairness.

I meant defensively. Not sure if qpr play with width or not.
Utd certainly did Saturday and we were caught short over and over again.

We were, that was our main problem on Saturday but with Hutton and Cissokho out, there's not a great deal of choice.
-
Guzan
Bacuna Okore Clark Lowton
N'Zogbia Delph Cleverly Gil
Gabby Benteke
-
Is this Kinsella lad ready to play yet ? He's been in and about the squad a bit. I like players playing in their best position so an option of lowton at RB , Kinsella LB and push Bacuna into RM.
-
I thought Kinsella had gone on loan a week or so ago?
-
Oh didn't realise that.
Another option would be Baker at LB Lowton RB , drop vlaar in with Okore and push Clark into a DCM role and drop Sanchez.
-

Or stick Sanchez up front with Benteke with Gil just behind them. Agbonlahor out on the left wing.
-
This is a must win game so I reckon 2-1 Villa.
-
No GK? Brave selection!
No point stating the obvious.
-
Gabby has had in good games for awhile now, no point in starting him, bring him on around 65 if all isn't going to plan. The same thing every game is repetitive and boring.
-

I don't think he or N'Zogbia did enough on Saturday.
-
Baker at LB isn't a good idea, i'd rather Cissokho back there and I don't rate him one bit, Clark first if Vlaar plays.
Sanchez wasn't too bad on Saturday, he made one really bad mistake, so did Delph and Bacuna. Delph also might be a little fatigued which is a concern.
-

Sanchez up front ? Is that a typing error ?
-
Vlaar is fit, so he has to play tomorrow, can't believe he didn't get any game time at OT on Saturday. We need our best players to be playing including Gil. I see we have more injuries - a lot of these are in happening in training - what is going on in training??
-
This is it. Shit or bust. They better run themselves into the ground, to a man.
2-1 Villa.
-
Guzan
Bacuna Okore Clark Lowton
Sanchez
Delph Cleverly
Gil
Gabby Benteke
Midfield is key and I'd much rather see Delph running with the ball than doing his Ray Wilkins two yard square passes. No doubt Sherwood will go for his 442 with wingers, leaving the middle completely open. The only thing that makes me think he won't is injuries but with Bacuna and Lowton pushing up we have the two best crossers at the club there to supply the attack.

Tim Sherwood looks to be without Scott Sinclair, Ashley Westwood and Alan Hutton for Tuesday's clash with QPR - but says he may take a calculated risk with a few of his returning stars.
Sherwood says the Rangers game comes too soon for Sinclair [hamstring], Westwood [hamstring] and Hutton [foot].
But several others, who he would usually have given time to build up their match fitness, may be thrown in against Chris Ramsey's side - due to the importance of the game and the "crippling" injury crisis.
On Westwood and Sinclair being fit for Tuesday, he said: "Not for tomorrow, it's too soon for them."
On the chances of seeing Hutton, he added: "No."
Discussing the options available for the B6 encounter, he continued: "To be honest, I have never known an injury list like it. But it's something you have to get on with.
"It's a case of seeing who can come in and do a job.
"A few of them are back from injury - they are medically fit but physically they are quite short. But it's a needs-must situation and some of them will be risked.
"And, as long as that player is willing to take that risk for the football club, I am happy for him to do that.
"It's boys who are clinically fit - and been passed fit by the medical staff - who probably haven't done enough training in an ideal world. But it's a needs-must situation.
"I have had a chat with a few of them. All of them to a man have said 'yes' they want to fight for the cause to keep this club in the Premier League.
"But it is a risk. There's an element of risk.
"Overall, I have seriously never seen an injury crisis like it - and I never thought I'd be one of those managers who ever moaned about injuries. But unfortunately I have to.
"It's crippling. You get one back and then you lose two.
"They are not trivial - they are two, three or four weeks. That's okay in September but not now."
-
Some good news they will be without Vargas and Hun who both started at WBA .
I'd go
------------ Guzan ------------
Okore. Vlaar. Clark. Baker
Gil. Cleverly. Delph. Nzogbia.
Gabby. Benteke.

Come on me babbies!!

Tim Sherwood has implored the claret and blue army to get down to Villa Park on Tuesday and cheer his team on to victory against QPR.
Sherwood made a point of hailing the enthusiasm and commitment of the supporters in the double header of games against neighbours West Brom, both matches his team won.
Now he wants another vibrant B6 for the visit of Rangers.
The boss knows the noise will be ear-shattering - and wants his players to match the passion of the supporters in a game he views as absolutely huge.
The manager says it's the biggest of the season certainly and "possibly the biggest for Villa for a number of years."
He said: "It's huge for us.
"The fans performed for us when we played against West Brom twice.
"They were huge games - the pressure was on us and we expect the same performance from our fans and hopefully they will get the same performance from the players.
"Our aim is to come out of that game on Tuesday with some breathing space between us and the bottom three.
"This is without doubt the biggest game of the season for Villa - and the biggest game possibly for a number of years for this football club.
"We plead with our fans to come and be on side. They were fantastic with us when we played West Brom in the double header.
"We need them to be exactly the same tomorrow night. If we can match the performance of the fans we will be alright.
"The nerves and anxiety have got to be there for the lads. The boys know the severity of the situation about where we are. That's natural.
"Tuesday night, Villa Park, under the lights, against QPR, to move six points clear of them - enjoy it, relish it. That's what they need to do.
"Don't be frightened to get beat. If they play with the ability they can show and they match the performance of our fans, we will win."
There is a sub-plot to Tuesday's game as Sherwood comes up against his good pal Chris Ramsey.
Sherwood, though, insists it's not about the coaching staff - it's all about the courage of the players who take to the field on the night.
He added: "I worked with Chris and he worked with me for seven years at Tottenham. We had a fantastic time.
"We get on well off the field but tomorrow is all about getting the job done for our respective teams.
"It's not about me and Chris Ramsey. It's about those players when they cross that line.
"It's time for our players to stand up and be counted. It's now time to show it.
"Have they got what it takes to stay in this Premier League? I believe they have, they need to believe they have and we need to start showing it from tomorrow."
-
It'll be nervous at times but a win and 3 points will be the outcome.
Benteke and a N'Zog special to edge it.
-
We've shifted quite a few tickets over the last day, judging by the select-a-seat thingo. But still only looks around 33-34,000.

ill be in the upper holte, watching the game through the fingers of both hands, if the team turn up we'll smash em, but i do think the tension from the terrace will transmit to the pitch.
we need Cleveley in with Delph, we need st clair in and id play Given.

Yup. I feel numb. Angry and bitter. Seeing us like this season after season. It has made football pretty joyless from January onwards each season. I hate it.
-
It's worn us all down I think. One of my mates actually wants to go down now as he cant take anymore. It's been death by a 1,000 knives.
-
...id play Given.
With the greatest respect, dropping a goalkeeper who catches more crosses than anybody else in the league and playing a goalkeeper who can't catch crosses against a team that plays with two big strikers and tries to cross the ball whenever possible would be an error of judgement.
(edited for tone)
-

I think he needs to snap the fuck out of it.
How does he think going down would be any better? "Ooh, we'd win more matches". Yeah, like Fulham fans probably thought this time last year.
It isn't a lot of fun watching us be shit week after week, everyone gets that bit, but it is football, it isn't like having an axe hanging over your head, threatening to decapitate you at any time.
I don't like losing all the time, either, but fuck the bed, all this "lets just get it over and done with" bollocks makes me want to puke up a kidney.
-
Wigan fans are probably loving all the extra wins they see, especially at home. Apart from they haven't won at home since the end of August.
I hope the players and manager have bigger balls than some of our fans.
-
No room for knickerwetters from here on in. This battle calls for balls.
-
The Championship is possibly the most competitive league in the world. I wouldn't fancy our chances too much with the "nice" type of players we have.
-
Come on the Villa!
3-2 home win. Up The Villa!
-
I hope the players and manager have bigger balls than some of our fans.
Clearly they don't cos if they did we wouldn't be on this predicament!
-
After the Stoke and Swansea results i am not to confident about this match at all. We need to win that is obvious but not losing is a MUST. 1-1 i am going for
-
Need a win, pure and simple. That may not be we get though obviously. Gone for an away win. I reckon we'll chuck it away in the last 5 mins, as usual. 1-2. Hope I'm wrong.

http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/premier-league/tim-sherwood-tells-aston-villa-players-to-man-up-ahead-of-qpr-game-10158929.html
Three points please boys
During my negative moments I worry that there is not much more to Sherwood than slogans like 'man up' and you 'need bollocks to play for Aston Villa'. Good soundbites, but......?
-
Gargantuan.
-
4-1 win, no problem.
-
I wish he had not made "man up" statement. It's about right team and tactics not words and heaping more pressure on our players.
-
Shit your pants time really.
A win would be huge but really can not lose this game.If we do lose then whilst its not all over we would deserve to go down as that would be us losing to QPR twice in the season.Infact our record against the bottom 3 is played 4 and 4 points which is pretty damning as it is.
I know we are not full of world beaters but I look at our squad and beggars belief we are so poor.
Need to start as we did against Sunderland and WBA fast attacking and direct.Be nice if Nzog can regain some form as he has dropped off the last 2 games.Personally I'd start Gil but seems Sherwood thinks with the players around him we are too lightweight already to accommodate him , whilst I don't fully agree with that after watching how lightweight Newcastle looked with likes of Cabella against Sunderland I can see his thinking.
Also think it's time Vlaar came and redeemed himself , infact with our fullback issues 3-5-2 might be the best way to go

Not just titanic. Not just gargantuan. This game is now elevated to the status of brobdingnagian
-
No room for knickerwetters from here on in. This battle calls for balls.

Did you just make that word up?

Ooh! A new word for use at work. (http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/brobdingnagian?s=t)

No - it's from Gulliver's Travels/Land of the Giants!

Still confident of us winning this one despite their result at the weekend. West Brom have taken their foot of the pendle a bit, but I with a lot of work still to do I don't think Sherwood would allow us to do that. Also, its a night game and the atmosphere at VP should be pretty rockin' which normally helps us. As long as we attack early, use our pace and go direct to the strikers then I think we should win. I would start with Gabby and Benteke this time in a 4-4-2. Think he went with Weinmann on Saturday because he is better at defending. But Gabby and Benteke are in decent form and this is the sort of fixture made for them.
2-0 Villa. Gabby and Sinclair.

Oh, he might be I haven't got the latest team news. If so I will change that second scorer to Bacuna lol.

The girlfriend just said I'm in a right grumpy mood
I need to man up myself

Any sign of a dot of the orange variety?
-
It ran out of juice.
-
If we can perform anything like the recent albion league game we should win this.
Please turn up Villa.

Sinclair / Westy /Hutton def out
Cissoko / Richardson might make it

It is the star equiavlent of UY Scuti

At least Vargas is out for them, after scoring in his last 2 games. Also, that cheating bastard Korean fullback is out of this game.
We should be turning the pressure on them, it's more important for them to win this game than us.
-
That win against West Brom doesn't mean they're not the same shit side they have been all season. Can't see them winning 2 away games back to back. 3-0 Villa, Benteke hat-trick.

All 7 of the people I usually ask to go down to Villa with have been unable to make this one, so I've decided today that for the first time in my life I'm going to go down on my own - tonight's one of those games I'm really feeling that I need to be there. Just bought a ticket in the Holte Lower L7.
Is this weird? I feel like more people go on their own to football than I'd think.

Not weird at all. I'm the last man standing of the group of people I used to go with. Whether that says more about what they think of me or what they think about the Villa, who knows?

Tim Sherwood says he wants "relentless pressure" for 90 minutes against QPR - and heroes to emerge in the survival battle.
Sherwood is adamant that it's time for his players to "stand up and be counted."
He wants a performance full of bravery as the claret and blues look to put six points between them and their opponents - and move higher up the Barclays Premier League table.
He said: "QPR are coming into this one on the back of a good result at West Brom. They will be very confident. They have their threats.
"We have to treat them with respect but not too much respect. It's about what Aston Villa can do on the night.
"I want relentless pressure from our team on to theirs.
"If we take our chances and get the rub of the green, we will win the game.
"We expect that Villa Park crowd to be right behind us. They will be an extra man for us.
"I think the boys realise they are good enough to win football matches. They have just got to go out there and play with a lot of confidence - and less fear.
"They can't worry about losing - and they can't be apprehensive in their performance.
"They have to go and take that huge following that will be behind us and use it to our advantage.
"It's about getting out there. I don't hide it from them - I tell them how crucial it is. We want to come away with three points.
"You try and be a hero. That's the aim.
"We want some guys to come forward and be the hero on the night.
"We know there's a lot of work to be done after this game but this is a massive platform for us."
Sherwood would prefer his side not to be in a basement battle - but he says it's now about looking forward and not back.
He added: "We all hoped we wouldn't be [in a relegation fight] - but we are realistic.
"Tim Sherwood didn't come here with a magic wand. We won five games in 25 before I came here.
"I was asked to win the same amount of games in 13. So we knew it was going to be a tough task.
"We are happy to be in the mix. It's a great opportunity for us to put six points between us and QPR on Tuesday. That's our focus.
"We think we are capable of doing it. It would jump us up the league a couple of spots and give us some breathing space above that line.
"We can't rely on others. We have to do our job and win a considerable amount of games between now and the end of the season to keep safe. That's what we expect to do."

If anything, I think it says more about what you think about Villa!
Today's made me realise that I am properly, properly, irreparably mad about football and that I love this club.
-
Down to the players tonight.
They all need to show up and deliver. No excuses.
-
15-20 years ago there used to be anything from about 8-20 of us meeting up before a game, depending on work etc. Midweek matches used to get the biggest turnout as pretty much no one would be working. I'm the only one still going regularly. So i'm a right sad bastard about the Villa.
-
Down to the players tonight.
They all need to show up and deliver. No excuses.
Down to all of us. Players need to turn up, but so do we. We can be the difference.
-
The importance and implications of tomorrow's game seem to be growing by the minute. These creeping senses of dread don't get any easier with every passing season do they!
We should be battle hardy veterans of this nonsense.
Punch drunk more like!
Yup. I feel numb. Angry and bitter. Seeing us like this season after season. It has made football pretty joyless from January onwards each season. I hate it.
Indeed, seeing the famous old images from the positivity thread makes me feel like I now support a different club altogether
-
I think this will go one of two ways. It'll be a nervy encounter where neither team wants to risk too much. Or both teams will go for it. It'll be a tight one with maybe one decisive goal either way, or I can see it being a high scoring on.
As such I fancied a long odd punt so I've opted for 4-3 Villa win with Austin down as first scorer.
-
I am shitting it. Ramsay will know exactly how Timmy is going to play it and from what I have seen is probably a more intelligent one than our Tim. I can see them going a couple up before half time and us having no real answer to it.

When they beat West Brazil at the weekend.

Their record from Boxing Day onwards, W2 D2 L10, plus a cup defeat. One good win against a truly wank Albion doesn't suddenly change the fact that QPR are fucking shit and we are going to smash them.

Can't really be bothered to check, but isn't that league record since Christmas pretty much identical to ours? including the Albion result

doesn't that apply the other way around too? Surely Sherwood knows what Ramsey prefers as a coach. This is our home game against a team that (hard to believe sometimes I know) has been a more sank this season than us. There is no reason to be afraid. Just like games against the Albion when it looked like the sky was falling in we came up with two huge wins in a week. We have to do it again tonight.
-
This is how I feel right now.*
(http://www.andypowell.co.uk/temp/doyouwant.png)
*Subject to change at the slightest mention of words like Austin.
-
I am feeling a real big game nervousness. Not unlike when we played them at Villa Park at this stage a couple of years ago. I think we will win. The last time QPR won two on the bounce they were playing at White City.
-

Couldn't you also argue that Tim will know how Ramsey will play it?
-
Just setting out to drive to the game. The Villa I have got to know over the years will lose this one and beat Tottenham. Time for these truly horrible ends of season to be addressed and rectified.

Yep, both sides other win was at Sunderland too. We're both gubbins.
-
I'm sorry but QPR are terrible. I don't care what they did at the weekend when basically everything they tried came off. They're an awful team and we should beat them comfortably. We have enough good players and if we play well we'll win.
-
Although that doesn't mean I'm not extremely nervous!

Villa 2-1 Quite Poor Really
Have to win this, as it seems unlikely we'll get points from any of our other April fixtures.

Sorry, statine the bleedin obvious...just nervous thinking about it.

Sounds like TS is getting his excuses in early, Injuries/ men against boys yada yada yada.
Hope that's not the case.
Lambert's Villa side of 2012/13 might have been able to play that card, but I don't think it applies to the current crop.
-
4-0 to us
-
I feel more comfortable driving late at night in a large vehicle. The largest vehicle I have is not very quick and will take some time to find a big enough parking space so therefore I have to be at the ground early. My location listed as Nice is for sentimental reasons. I started posting on here from that fine, warm place and have never bothered to change it. Give us a toot as you pass me Doc. I have "Nationwide delivery of fresh fruit and vegetables 24/7" on the side with our company logo "The cabbages must get through" with the picture of a cabbage running, waving its leaves about. Based on Andy Weimann.
-
I really shouldn't be laughing at that.

I saw QPR play at Palace and it was one of the most witless displays of football I had seen for a good while (ignoring some of our own performances over the past few seasons). Their defending was truly awful.
What could possibly go wrong ?

Feeling Very nervy about this now, not helped by smashing down to cans of Red Bull as I was up very early today. I've had a bet on 3-1 with Gabby netting the opener at 75/1

Making the trip up tonight. I'm tired of missing out on the games when we spank relegation rivals six ways from Sunday.

That said, I was at that Bolton game...
Which was one of the strangest evenings ever. We absolutely battered them, I had to leave early because we were off later that night, got home just as we finally scored...I went into the house, picked up two cases, put them in the boot, locked up and turned the radio back on. In that time we'd gone 2-1 down and for the rest of the match Reego and Franksy, or whoever it was, were almost overcome with joy.
-
Paddy Power have
Villa win 23/20
Draw 23/10
QPR 5/2
Fast start, get the fans on board and we will win
Cagey start, quiet fans and I'd fancy QPR
I'd imagine something in between. I'm inclined to go draw, but this seriously can go any way.

My brother wasn't at that game. I went to text him that we'd taken the lead and by the time I'd typed the text out, we were behind. And yes, I am a slow typist.

There was such a huge feeling of relief when we finally scored. There were a lot of smiles, and I remember thinking that we would probably get a couple more.
-
The same happened to me. Started to send a text to say we were 1-0 up. We were losing 1-2 by the time I had finished it. If we go 1-0 up this evening, I'm turning my mobile off.
-
When I bought my ticket it was looking like being a strong crowd now, Holte End should be full.
-
I had a quick look in the club shop in town earlier and there were a few queuing so hopefully there will be a decent crowd tonight. And they weren't after semi-final tickets as the shop in town doesn't sell them.
-
I will take a routine 3-0 win. Its bloody villa though so no doubt we will balls it up and let them score. 3-1.
More seriously, I am terrified.
-
I feel physically sick.
-
Evening all, I'm going to try to follow the game later, I'm in Chang Mai in Thailand struggling with the worst case of food poisoning I've ever experienced and the GMT-6hrs time difference. If anyone could help me out with the proxy site for listening to bbc radio from abroad that would be a massive help. Cheers

edit, check your PM django.

The Guardian's Fiver doesn't mention tonight's game at all. Their featured game tonight is the Italian Cup. For shame.
-
I've been feeling nervous about this all day as well. The stakes are really high, especially with the rest of the games this month being so tough. If we can win I reckon we'll still be outside the relegation places come the start of May which will hopefully be a big psychological boost.
-
I've got a thumping head ache and having palpitations.
-
Massive game but I think we can nick it, QPR will have lots of confidence after stuffing those Tesco bags but I think we will do them 2-1.
The first time I saw QPR at Villa if I remember right was a league cup semifinal when Sir Brian Little scored a hatrick, would love one from Benteke tonight.
-
its 3 hours ahead here in Abu Dhabi. Shit first half and Austin has looked dangerous. They scored on 26 mins when we didn't pick up Austin from a lump up to Zamora. Gabby on 44 mins with a break away goal. 1-1 at half-time. Need to buck our ideas up for the second half.
-
No Family Fun Day activities today. Academy building open for bar only.
-
If we hoof it up to Benteke we'll get nothing. Play it on the floor and we'll rip them a new one, especially down the right. I'd even be tempted to give Mr Cul-de-Sac a game and see if he can take advantage of a weak, slow defence. I just hope Sherwood finally finds some balance in midfield. Start solid and he can go gung-ho once we're two up.
4-0 Villa (Gil x 3; Benteke)

Twitter rumour is Gil left ground already ..not in squad.
-
Oh dear.
-
Wow, if true, and we lose looking thoroughly clueless with the ball all night, Sherwood will deserve anything that comes his way. If true of course.
-
Grealish starts.
-
No Gil in the squad. Quite what the fuck Joe Cole, or Weimann offer from the bench over Gil is beyond me.
Lowton benched is harsh, Bacuna and Richardson are about as full on attacking full backs as you could get. Clark and Vlaar at the back is sensible I think. Glad Cleverley and Sanchez start with Delph to give depth.
Grealish - what a night to start. Good luck son.
