Ask for Batham's.

Yorke x 2
-
Yeah, pretty sure it was a Dwight double. Think Bergkamp got a double for them.
-
Definitely Yorke with both.

F**k off - we dont let the Brummie to**ers anywhere near it.

Excellent link for Villa results, line-ups and scorers below. Sadly, seems to have lost interest (perhaps understandably) at the end of 2012-13. Not too vital though as all recent seasons have their own Wikipedia articles anyway.

I feel the same about the Villa and yam yam to**ers.

I was in the back of the North bank for that one, a great Big Ron performance.
-
You mean Brian little

Who was better in their pomp, Bergkamp or Yorkie ?
-
Bergkamp with ease.
-
Who was better in their pomp, Bergkamp or Yorkie ?
Yorke all day long for me .
-
Loved that game. Was next to the barrier with the Arse fans to my right. We went fecking bananas with the second equaliser and gave the home fans hell. Thanks Dwight.

Cheers everyone.

It was Yorke twice
But bergkamp was definitely the better player. One of the best ever in the league

Yam yam beer to be kept west of the M5.
I'm undercover over here though, so I'm going to tell you where to find this shit. Wollaston, near Stourbridge, at The Unicorn and The Royal Exchange.
Proper pubs over here, ay it?

Yorke all day long for me .
Much as I'd love to agree with you, Bergkamp by some considerable distance for me
-
No disrespect to our own but Bergkamp was truly world class. Yorke just about international level.
-
Yorke had 3 or 4 years where he would have walked into nearly any side in the world. Bergkamp had a career where he would have walked into any side in the world, that is the difference.
-
Its hard to admit (for me anyway) but Yorke was absolute quality in the year Red scum won the European cup - something I don't think Berkamp achieved; Yorke playing the lone striker role away from home. He may not have done it in the final but he certainly performed in the other rounds.
-
I don't think many would have Yorke at his peak, over Bergkamp at his peak.
And there are plenty of players who have won the European Cup/Champions League that aren't fit to lace Bergkamp's boots.
-
96-99 Yorke was probably as good.
Either side Bergksmp for sure and by a distance.
-
Bergkamp was one of the half a dozen best players to play in the premier league.
Yorke was great for us, but nowhere near as good.
-

I loved Yorkie, but Bergkamp is probably my favourite ever Premiership player. On his game he was a joy to watch, and considering that meant watching Arsenal, that's quite something. Very few players could score goals like the one he scored against Leicester (he also scored a similar one playing for Holland against Argentina) and that goal against Newcastle. Astonishing first touch.

Arsenal fans don't know how lucky they are.
Henry, Bergkamp and Vieira - I'd put them all in the top ten premier league era players.

Just looking back at some of their players too, they had an awesome back line in the late 90's. Then in 02-04, the likes of Pires as well.
I also think Henry and Bergkamp is probably the best front two the Prem has ever had. Plenty of goals but both players were also technically exceptional to boot, and Henry of course had pace to burn back in the day.
They should have won the European cup and that will end up being a blot on Wengers CV to be honest. I think Arsene has had sides as good as, if not better than Utd's 99 treble winners.
There weren't too many players around as technically gifted as Bergkamp. Zidane would be one such example of someone as exceptional at manipulating a football, and he of course won everything.
I honestly don't see a player in this league as impressive at the moment. The players of that class level are mostly playing in Spain.
-
Not too many players in history who could produce stuff like this. I could watch highlight reels of guys like Bergkamp and ZZ all day.
That said, I could also watch reels of Yorke all day too. Still a fucking quality player.

Wenger had Bruce Rioch to thank for Bergkamp.
-
I still remember getting ready for work one day and the main sports news on breakfast tv was that Bergkamp was about to sign for us. Within a couple of days he had signed for Arsenal.
-
Who was better in their pomp, Bergkamp or Yorkie ?
Cheers, that gave me a laugh😄
-
3 mins 44.
*swoon*

Sat in the seat behind Lee Hendrie at Arsenal that night, he went ballistic as our goals went in.

It might be my memory playing tricks, but I'm pretty sure that Bergkamp developed a fear of flying which meant that anywhere that couldn't be reached by rail within 24 hrs was off limits for european matches, which significantly limited his appearances in the CL and had the obvious effect of weakening that Arsenal team.

Ah yes. I forgot about that. Undoubtedly that must have hampered them in some games.

Aguero probably the closest.

It probably ties in with them always cruising through the group stages, then struggling if they got drawn against anyone half decent that was further away than northern Spain or Italy or east of Berlin in the knock-out stages. (purely arbitrary statement with no research to back it up, so feel free to show me up :) )

I thought David Dein was instrumental in the signing and closed the deal. Rioch wasn't allowed to sign plsyers due to the prior Graham scandal

They were a different type of striker. Would have made a very good partnership with Bergkamp playing off Yorke at his peak.

Like Manchester United at their best during the same period, Arsenal had a very strong and physical element down the spine of their side which made them very difficult to play against. When they played each other in the Cup last week, it is apparent that neither of them have that any more.

Arsenal's double winners had Seaman in goal with Keown, Bould and Adams as centre halfs and Petit and Vieira in the centre of midfield. Uniteds treble winners the following year had Schmeichel, Johnsen, Stam, Keane, Scholes and Butt. Compare that to their current sides. Mourinho always makes sure Chelsea have a strong spine and City have the likes of Kompany and Toure these days. United and Arsenal have fallen behind in that respect.

Nigel Spink was sat a few rows in front of me for that game, in with the away supporters which i thought was class.

I don't know, Djimi Traore was a pretty good player.
-
For one season at least I was able to say Savo Milosevic was better than Bergkamp! He ended his first season with more goals and a cup compared to Bergkamp who scored fewer and didn't win sod all in 95-96. Not sure how it all turned out after that ha ha
