Best Villa goal. Ever. Most important for me was Dalian vs Tranmere - both of the them! But this is the best.
-
Surely Atkinson at Wimbledon topped that? Not complaining about that one, mind.
-
I'd not seen that before, bloody hell!
-
Was right in line with that in the Upper Trinity with my Dad. The ball went out of sight for a second because of the roof and then just dropped down into the goal, I can still see it now.
-
The angle on that video isn't right, I remember him shooting from just outside our penalty box ;)
We scored so many great goals that season.

I was sat in the Witton Lane Stand bang on the half way line. It's a goal I'll never forget. Our first in that game was also a cracker. Lovely weighted pass from Parker to Staunton. Big floating cross to Dwight Yorke.
I do think if we hadn't rushed Dalian back we'd have won the league. Don't know why Big Ron didn't rate Yorke as a striker. He played him up front with Regis in 1991-1992 and with Saunders in 1992-1993 and always delivered.
-
I've posted something similar before, Yorke should have kept his place with Deano. He was such an intelligent natural talent he could have played with anyone. Wish Sir Brian wouldn't have tried to fit Savo,Collymore and Yorke in together. Yorke could have struck up a great partnership with Collymore and who knows what could have happened.

Yeah definitely. Saying that Stanley Victor was probably battling with depression when he signed for us.
In hindsight we should never have signed Stan. Even though he was the player we all wanted. Wouldn't it be lovely if we could time travel and go back to the summer of 1997 and start again.
Yorkie would be getting a new five year year deal, and I'd have signed that Thierry Henry lad to play alongside him.

I think it just came down to the fact that Yorke wasn't a Big Ron signing didn't it?
-
Strange really because Yorke scored a lot of goals for BFR the season before. I think its because Dalian's goal output had been so high before his injury BFR probably thought he'd pick it up right away upon his return. He never did and I don't know why BFR couldnt see it wasn't working - and that was in addition to Dean Saunders having a goal drought during the run-in. Yorkie was the only regular goalscorer from about February onwards yet BFR dropped him.Cost us big time at the end of that season.
-
Dwight Yorke lodged with a couple next door to my aunt and uncle in Coleshill and was good friends with my cousin around that time. She reckoned he couldn't stand BFR and was always moaning about him.

I wish we could travel back to the summer of 1995 and sign Dion Dublin then instead of Savo.

I wish I could travel back to the summer of 1995 and not ask a total mentallist called Marie to move over to Tenerife and live with me.

Sound like bad times. Back to Deano - why did Big Ron always pronounce his surname as 'Sanders'?
-

We scored so many great goals that season.
According to MotD, it wasnt the best goal that match. They gave the GotM award to Yorke's one where we passed it around the team 30 times before we scored.
I always rated that one higher the Beckhams as it was on the volley, not easily controlled on the floor and the keeper was on the edge of the 6 yard box and not on the edge of the area when the ball is initially hit.
-
I was in the Holte and remember getting home and telling my dd "you have got to watch MOTD". There was a good goal in another game and one of the pundits said "If you think that was special wait until you see what's coming up" then they showed the Villa game.

Are you sure Big Ron referred to Saunders as Sanders? I think you'll find it was Ronald Bendall who certainly addressed Ron Saunders that way. I could be wrong.
-
When he did his speech on the pitch to placate the fans over the supposed hitch in the transfer BFR called him Dean Sounders.
-
On the Italian Job vhs that covers the Inter match he calls him Sanders.

I think that particular goal you're referring to was against Sheffield Wednesday a few weeks later. I think it was only after about 5 minutes in a great game against a really good Wednesday side at the time.
We scored some absolutely great goals that season. Also don't forget Atkinson's scoring the best goal at Selhurst Park ever against Wimbledon, Houghton or Parker (cant recall which) at home to Norwich and Staunton's screamer at Old Trafford. I'm sure there are more.
-
Parker at Sheff United was a class goal - his first, he got two that day.Kevin Richardson scored an absolute belted in the Coca Cola at home to Oxford, long range stunner in off the underside of the bar.

I never tire of seeing these goals.
The other goal from that Ipswich game was indeed a stunner (~7:40):
while, against Sheffield Wednesday (after ~30s) a month later:
What a great team that was. Garry Parker was some player on his day.

I remember at the time that goal wasn't even amongst the options for MOTDs goal of the month! Unbelievable!

He was. Underrated player.
But Not as good as my favourites, Sid and Merse

I have absolutely no recollection of that Oxford home game although I would have been there. But I am sure all of us who were behind Paul Kee's goal at the Manor Ground will never forget it. I wonder if he has forgotten that night or if he always got that much 'banter'.
-
Best Villa goal. Ever.
For me it wasn't even the best goal of the game. I preferred the one touch move of Yorke's goal. Football Perfection. Saying that, the Saunders goal wasn't that bad either. ;)

"No hair, the goalies got no hair". It went on for ages. I think he duly obliged by throwing one in for us too.

top 10 goals we scored that season
no place for parkers volley against liverpool at the kop, his scissor kick volley against man city at main road and dalians half volley against sheff wed

Ray Houghton was another member of that team who was pretty underrated. It's interesting to see that he makes the teams of many who played with him on that Fantasy Football show on SKY. It was such a well balanced side and when Dalian was on form, we were probably only really a quality left winger short.

Totally agree. The other goal was a great goal. If I remember rightly D Yorke scored a similar great team goal against Sheff Wed which was even better.

Deano's home debut -
25 mins with Big Ron in 1993 -
Peter Withe on Andy Gray's Bootroom 1993 -

The left-winger we needed was Stephen Froggatt.
Once he had bad luck with injuries, we couldn't replace him.
Tremendous player!
