Alexis Sanchez is a "doubt" with an injury. This might be time for Benteke to find his form if he gets a decent supply from Gil Hutton and sissoko ........

Arsène Wenger has revealed the latest team news ahead of Sunday's game against Aston Villa:

on the team news…
The squad will be exactly the same as last Sunday. The only uncertainty we have is Alexis Sanchez who has a hamstring concern, and that will be decided on Saturday. He might be out for Sunday. The only [other] difference is that Gabriel is available and we’ll check him how he is physically but he should be alright to be available.

on Danny Welbeck…
Welbeck is very close. He is really, really, really nearly there. He will be available for the Tottenham game.

on Wilshere, Arteta, Oxlade-Chamberlain…
They are not completely there yet but they are not far. Jack should join in normal training in 10 days. Welbeck on Monday. That’s where we are at the moment. Arteta a bit longer.

Think the likes of Wellbeck, Wilshere and Oxade-Chamberlain will do well to get back in the Arsenal side even when they are fit. I would say the first two are over rated but they seem to have been found out at the highest level anyway.

Arses likely line-up - Ospina, Bellerin, Mertsacker, Koscielny/Paulista, Monreal, Cazorla, Coqeulin, Ramsey, Rosicky, Walcott/Ozil, Giroud - subs: Gibbs, Chambers, Sanchez

Going to be a busy night for Carlos Sanchez but Id like to try pressing Arsenal high up the pitch especially if they have Paulista making his debut. Id get Delph and Bacuna into midfield next to Sanchez, Cleverley to drop out. Would like Weimann and Gil to play in similar roles like they did in the second half against Bournemouth. The two new signings have improved our squad quite a bit, pretty experienced bench we have now with lots of options.

------------Guzan,
Hutton, Okore, Clark, Cissokho,
-----------Sanchez--------
--Bacuna,-----------Delph,
----Gil-----Weimann,
----------Benteke -

Bench- Gabby, Cleverley, Sinclair, Westwood, Baker, Lowton, Given, Richardson

Think we will put in a good performance, not sure if it will be enough for a result unless Benteke is on his game. 2-1 Arsenal, Weimann with an early goal.

For this game I would drop Benteke and play Agbonlahor and Weimann up front. Two reasons. Gabby tends to play very well against Arsenal and Mertesacker is slow on the turn. Their defence is not good against pace and Gabby still has short bursts that could be of help.

Apart from that Benteke isn't doing much for the cause at the moment and being dropped might fire him up again.

3-0 Villa. Quick fire stuff in a performance that people will scratch their heads over as to where it’s been hiding.

Arsenal is a ground that doesn't hold any fear for me, or the Villa it seems given our record. Arsenal always give you a chance with the way they play and one win at Man City doesn't alter the fact that they're mentally weak with a soft underbelly. The Emirates is quite possibly the least intimidating ground in the league.

First goal is key, Weimann will get it.

In all seriousness, I do agree with you and that's how we have had success there in the past.  However, with our new possession tactics, I fear the worst.

I would rather our possession and not give them the ball for 70% of the time. The thing we are missing is the effectiveness in the final third. I would rather lose trying to play football than by having given the ball back to them repeatedly over the course of 90 minutes. If we go at Arsenal they are vulnerable and have had for a long time now a fragile mentality which is derived from their manager.

It's amazing what a win, a new signing and our best player committing his future to us can do for confidence.

Nathan Baker on standby for Arsenal trip after Ciaran Clark injured in training

Clark hurts his ankle and is a doubt for Sunday's Premier League clash at the Emirates

30 January 2015
By Gregg Evans

Ciaran Clark is struggling to make Aston Villa's trip to Arsenal on Sunday after getting injured in training.

The in-form centre-half missed today's session with an ankle problem as the rest of Paul Lambert's squad stepped up their preparations for the trip to the Emirates.

He will be assessed tomorrow.

Nathan Baker is on standby to replace Clark, although Villa's medics will also check on captain Ron Vlaar, who has been battling to recover from a knee injury.

Philippe Senderos is still out with calf trouble.

Villa will still be without Joe Cole, Libor Kozak. Cole is struggling with a hamstring injury and has been training away from the group as he recovers.

Kozak remains some way off a return and Villa have not yet put a date on his comeback.

2-1 Arsenal.

Paul Merson doesn't hold out much hope for us either.

I can’t see anything but an Arsenal win especially as they’ve just had two really good results and I look at Villa and don’t know where Villa are going to get another goal.

I know they scored two against Bournemouth in the FA Cup but in the league I can’t see anything but another defeat for them.

Guzan has been the only success for them this season.

How about a 4-2-2-1-1, playing Andy more centrally just off Benteke.  Swap Gabby for Sinclair if he's shown in training he can already do a job, or even Cleverly for Andy if we want to be a bit more defensive.

------------------ Guzan -----------------
Hutton --- Okore --- Clark --- Sissokho

Gil -------------------------------- Gabby
------------ Weimann -------------------
----------------- Benteke ---------------

Why? Baker has had a good season so far. I'd have no problems with him starting.

The thought of Baker vs Giroud is going to make for a restless night

To avoid any further melodramatic statements I suggest warm milk before bed and wearing an adult nappy.

Yes he's had a good season but we really need our best pairing tomorrow which is Okore / Clark

Based on the season's opening games, Vlaar and Senderos are our best pairing.

No idea who'll start because Gil's arrival throws a spanner in the usual proceedings.

I'm just hoping for an enjoyable game....

I was worried when I found out Baker was starting at Anfield back in September. He ended up being named man of the match, and was again vs Man City at home. I'm pleased to say Baker and Clark have proved me and many others wrong this season. It's just a a shame about most of the rest of the team.

Never a truer word spoken on here.

0-1. Against the run of play.

All of our central defenders have performed excellently this season, and some have argued that is because we have now have full backs who can defend rather than callow youths from lower divisions who look good going forward but are regularly skinned by competent wide speed merchants (Call me pedantic, but I distinctly remember being informed by several cognoscenti that there were no longer wingers in the Premiership, so new terms must be invoked).

Whatever the reason, I think it is true to state that Okore has been immense apart from when he has been coupled with Baker. In other words, it is not individuals but combinations which are most relevant.

--------- Sanchez ------- Delph ---------
Gil -------------------------------- Gabby
------------ Weimann -------------------
----------------- Benteke ---------------

Like the look of that side (with Sinclair hopefully replacing Gabby in time), but feel it might leave us a bit light in midfield for the next two games.  I think we'll see Cleverley in midfield tomorrow instead of Gabby from the line up above and Gil in a more of a free role.

I'm reading that Clark is a serious doubt for tomorrow who would have thought I'd be really concerned with his absence a year ago?!  Look at the amount of injuries our central defence has suffered this season - our defensive record is amazing considering that.  And has Senderos got an actual calf growing out of his calf ffs how long can it take to heel.

With all that said I think baker is still a weak link and on that basis I think we will be beaten but funnily enough not by much.

Benteke will score tomorrow. Anytime Lukaku score Benteke scores as well. I think.

Baker + Vlaar has worked very well this season; Baker + Okore has  tended to unhinge Okore somewhat.

Of course, they may click at some point. We must hope it is sooner rather than later.

If we had options up front I wouldn't be against dropping Benteke . He's been poor and lacked energy / hunger the last few games.

Alexis Sanchez is a "doubt" with an injury. This might be time for Benteke to find his form if he gets a decent supply from Gil Hutton and sissoko ........

He plays for the barcodes so I highly doubt Benteke will be getting supplied anytime soon :P

Cissokho. School boy error. But you knew who i meant .......

Arsenal are strong in attack but weak in defence, so we should not commit the mistake to let them put us under pression.
 I would go with:
Guzan
Hutton Clark Okorè Cyssoko
Delph Westwood Sanchez
Gil Benteke Sinclair (Agbinlahor)
