Title: Car broken into during the game
Post by: DBTW on January 26, 2015, 12:20:57 PM
Mods, please move if its in the wrong area.

Yesterday, i drove to the game as I was bringing my two young daughters. I parked on Thimblemill Lane, opposite the Aston Manor Brewery at 13:30.

When I got back to my car at around 16:50, the passenger side window had been smashed, the dashbord smashed and the built in console (stereo, sat nav etc for the Skoda) had been taken.

I was posting just to let posters know that this is happening again, and also to see if anyone else was unfortunate enough to be a victim?

Bloody hell, sorry to hear about that. I hope the catch the lowlife who did it.

I was parked exactly opposite the gates to the brewery, so must have been very close to your car.

Sorry to hear that.

My dad's friend was a victim a couple of times. When he reported it to the police they said "well, you shouldn't take your car to games". That's an indication of the sort of contempt they had for fans back then (late eighties-early ninetees).

I hope you reported it and got a better response.

The police, and the brewery are helping a lot to be honest, nice to see.

I parked right opposite the gates too, I was the second car before the kerb drops on the left as you walk up

Had my car stolen many years ago outside the Vine pub.Police told me football ground  environs are the number one area for car crimes. The bastards know you're going to be gone for a couple of hours. The look on the kids face when he asked me for money for looking after my car was a picture when I asked him where it was. Pay a fiver in a proper parking area, there are plenty of them. I use the old Barn social clubs car park, never had any trouble.

I was the other side of the dropped kerb, maybe 2 or 3 cars up.
I have parked there for years and rarely see cars that have 'been done', although it was common a long time ago. I had mine broken into about 20 years ago.

You have given me food for thought about parking there, although it is still preferable to parking further up by the social club where it 'costs' £5 to park on the street.
I'm sure that's classed as demanding money with menaces ?

Sorry to hear of your theft, this type of crime is rare these days with built in equipment. It must have been stolen to order for another car of the same model. Theft of radios was a big thing when they simply got removed with a specialist tool to sell to any car owner with a slide in radio. I know it doesn't help much. I hope it hasn't ruined the day for you all. Also to those with keyless cars and ignition be very wary.

That's not good. I tend to use a £5 secure car park or sometimes park on Witton Lane opposite Aston Police Station.

Always used to park on the Serpentine.

Had my car nicked over 20 years ago, and always use secure parking now, which is now bloody difficult now due to the closure of the Serpentine.

Sorry to hear of this too, especially on our patch.

Feature on radio last week about specific cars (Vauxhalls I think) being targeted for theft of interior hardware.

Sorry to hear about that, DBTW.

You didn't chase them down this time, then? When was it, Stoke away a few years ago?

Sheffield Utd, blimey, what an event that was!

I have a Skoda Rapid, 64 reg, and I assume that the centre console thing fits all Skods and VW's?

Sorry to hear that mate and probably a bit traumatic for the young ladies. I thought this sort of thing was  now  confined to visible  accessory NAV units etc! As you said your car is  a 64 reg and they carry the VW Group security level for integrated modules. That means VIN is recorded in the module at their assembly plant and unit will not function without that so not sure if  it's of any use to the scum. It will not work in another Skoda or VW.

I always street park but much closer to the ground in  and around where people live as I find  area around Thimble Mill Lane is too quiet.

I didnt know that it wouldnt work in any other car? Is there software they can use to bypass it ?

Not the club, but what are the police going to do about it? Probably nothing as they are probably trying to catch people speeding

They have clamped down on car crime during the match on previous occasions but I suppose the problem is that it's such a big area to cover and a quick crime to commit.

No. UK Thatchem security requirements mean that it has to be embedded in the operating and not function part of the module. It's not impossible to overwrite  with VIN of new host but very very difficult without specialist equipment. I bet you your parts are now heading to Eastern Europe and someone is hoping to upgrade their local spec Skoda with UK spec equipment. I think they will find its a futile move.

Sorry to hear that DBTW, I also always park around there, giving me yet another reason to dread going to B6
