Title: Aston Villa vs Bournemouth Match Thread

Villa: Given, Hutton, Okore, Clark [c], Richardson, Bacuna, Cleverley, Sanchez, Gil, Weimann, Benteke.

Cleverley must have picture of Lambert and Paul Jewell on the bonnet of a car. The only explanation as to why he never gets dropped. And where's Delph?

4-1-3-2 with Weimann up front ?

Small mercy that Baker's on the bench because he always seemed to be one of Lambert's favourites too.

Burke on the bench but no Robinson - is he injured or has he just pissed Lambert off somehow?

With exception Cleverley, I like the look of this side. Better balance with Bacuna and Gil offering some creative options in midfield, and Hutton / Richardson capable of some wide attack. Yes its not as strong as it needs to be by a mile, but if they go out positive, get a goal early doors, will feel pretty confident

It would appear that his change of heart in joining us was based on a deal where if hes fit, he starts.

Delph is a hugely concerning omission if the intention is not to cup tie him - now, let's think who is left in the cup, oh yes Liverpool....

I don't think that is too bad a team tbh.Glad Bacuna has been picked, wouldn't have picked Cleverley, but glad that Westwood and Gabby aren't playing tbh.

Delph going?..would like him to stay, but not sure he is as good as he seems to think.

They have made 8 changes from their last game so obvious where their priorities lie - come on Villa we should be winning this

I reckon it's a 4 2 3 1 at least there should be some movement behind Benteke !!

Big player announcement is probably some youth team kid signing a new deal.

After watching our defensive indecision from balls into our box return when he started against Leyton Orient, Given's inclusion is a bit of a concern.  Other than that I think we're looking at the usual flat midfield three set up with Gil behind Benteke and Weimann.

A defeat would not be a surprise, a draw would lead to more anxiety because Bournemouth could win at home & really rub it in and a win would just be a relief. Only winning by several goals would deliver happiness. A sorry situation.

Looks like it which is good news of sorts if he actually ever played.

He's a good defender, just too injury prone. At least with him staying for a few more years our central defence is sorted for the foreseeable future so we don't need to spend any more money there in the summer.

I do also want to see what Vlaar-Okore combo looks like aswell. It looked pretty good there with Clark against Man. United.

I actually think we'll go 3-5-2 for the next two league games so I think that might be why Richardson is in today to give him some minutes.

So why we seem so poor collectively can only be down to Lambert.

He's bought well and yet it doesn't translate to the pitch. Yet a good portion of these players have scored some of the best goals we've ever seen in recent memory. If this defence could be combined with the attacking intent and ability of Lambert's first season we'd be brilliant.

Bacuna-what does he ever actually do? A shocking player

This x1000

A couple of nice free kicks aside, he is a fourth division player. Zero quality

Nothing to be positive about. Why can't Lambert disappear? This insistence on giving Hutton the ball and watching him charge up the touchline is embarrassing. Terrible to watch. Richardson? Cleverley? Weimann? Bacuna? They're woeful. Benteke, get your fucking finger out you lazy sod, do something, make something happen.

Crap so far. Booooooooooooooooooooo

I odn't know if I am more shock by the Delph news or the fact Ian Harte is still playing. Will wonders ever cease

Harte was in the Leeds team that got quite far in the Champions League in the early 00's...I think the team we beat en route to the FA cup final too. Seems a lifetime ago.

He has made a career from brilliant set piece balls, as we may sadly learn to our cost later. Just waiting to hear 'Sanchez gives away the free kick on the edge of the D. Harte lines it up...'

He is only 37...

I seem to remember he had no pace 15 years ago. Good job we have pacey wide players who can exploit him...

Get in Gil!!
