We just miss out on the top 20 (see page 4), but the fact we generate over £100 million despite years of battling relegation shows the massive potential this club has, with the right owner we would be matching, if not ahead of Everton and Newcastle's revenue whose is only a fraction higher than ours despite completely contrasting fortunes on the pitch in recent years.

Aren't those figures in Euros?

Aren't those figures in Euros?
Yes they are, but converted to pounds our revenue was around £112 million. Everton's around £120 million and Newcastle's around £130 million.
-
Imagine telling someone 20 years ago that we'd have 133m revenue a year. And that Man City would have 414m and Chelsea 389m. You'd have been dragged off to the funny farm.

I assume that's an estimate then as we haven't published our 13/14 results yet have we?

With all the wage cut backs, surely the bottom line will be much more healthy and give room to buy some more players even this month to safeguard that income.

You'd think so, but we seem to be oblivious to the threat.

Seeing the likes of Man City right up there when they were behind us about six years ago shows us how quickly perceptions and finances can change in modern football. I am amazed to see how relatively high up we are despite the madness of the past four seasons. Get the investment in and we would fly up those tables, I am sure of that.

Never mind the owner, the right manager could see us overtake Everton and Newcastle in terms of turnover.
The right owner could quadruple it.

These figure are always behind as they go on the last published accounts.

Have our fortunes been that contrasting with Newcastle's? When those tables of all the horrendous records Lambert has were posted a couple of weeks back, the only other manager with a similarly dreadful record across the board was Pardew.

Apart from taking them close to CL qualification one season.
-
I am surprised at how high up we are.

I am surprised at how high up we are.
It's hardly through our own efforts though as most of the rise is down to increases in PL TV rights.
-
I hope those figures tempt a potential buyer.

We have more revenue than Roma, think about that for a second. How do we manage to waste so much of it?
-
Then if we had someone with football knowledge, business knowledge and a bit of vision we could be up there with the likes of Spurs, Newcastle, Everton. A great manager in Wenger mould could make us biggest club outside Man City/Man Utd/Chelsea) Imagine what could we do if we have champions league money behind us. We waste too much money because we pay too much money for crap players or players wages.

Looking at Newcastle's recent league finishes (5th, 16th and 10th), probably 'completely contrasting' was a bit strong, although it's still a damn site better than 16th, 15th, 15th.

PSG and Man City's commercial revenues look suspicious don't they. PSG's especially 240m euro's or something, hmm yeah ok, blag deals with the owners companies rule.

Obviously those are only sales from Soorts Direct shops and including the club shops and other outlets, our Brum sales would be highest, but that's a jolly good show by the Irish Villains.

Drop by Murray's on O'Connell St when there's a Villa match on and you'll see quite a few in claret and blue.

"Humble" Aston Villa? Oh do f#!k off! When you consider how many great Irish players have played for Villa and their long, long history and standing in the game it's not much of a surprise that they have a decent Irish following...despite Randy Lerner's madness of the past four years.
One thing we can be sure of is that Irish Villa fans tend not to be the plastic gloryhunting type of "fan" that will buy the shirt of whoever is currently on TV or winning/buying trophies. Why do I think the guy who wrote this piece falls into that category? Indeed, If a survey like this had been run ten or twenty years ago the likes of Man City and Chelsea wouldn't even be talked about.
-
Any idea where POTM's are in this League?

On the occassions I have been to Dublin I have always seen a good number of folk wearing Villa shirts. Its also a good point you raise. 20 years ago you would have seen a good number of Villa fans in Dublin, just like today you still see the same and I bet 20 years down the line you'll have plenty of Villa fans too.
In the meantime, you will get the likes of Man City and Chelsea or whoevers next coming and going.
