Great Player, Great Bloke,
Happy Birthday.
-
Yet he achieved more in two years than almost every footballer that's ever been ever does or will do.
-
We'd have lost him to Citeh or Chelsea in 1979, and Sid, in current times if that makes sense.
-
At least lets replace him with Sergio Aguero then.

Perfect sense. There's no way the Gordon Cowans of 1977-80 would have stayed with a club who'd finished no higher than seventh.

Such a wonderful player, he made things look so easy, he was a natural born goalscorer but had great talent and confidence in his own ability. Not only did he win more than most can ever wish for, he lived the dream, doing it with the team he supports.
Happy birthday, Gary (and give my regards to Eric).
-
Happy Birthday Gaz,, thanks for the cracking drinking session in 2009 at the Norweigans Supporters Club Doo!
-
It's that time of the year when I bore you good folks, but he is the reason I supported Villa as a 5 year old. Achieved so much, but also left the question of what if.
-
Happy Birthday Gary
-
I was at Bristol City in 1979 when, as a teenager he scored a hat-trick. I'm convinced he was about to be subbed when he got the first goal then, everything he touched turned to gold. Happy birthday Gary, thanks for the memories.

54? No chance. Some people will be forever 21, with a blonde wedge and a long-sleeve Umbro shirt.
-
Happy birthday Gary shaw
Poetry in motion
Met him many years ago at moor green football club when in his prime and what a great bloke chatted away to me about the villa for ages
-
First saw him in the 1978 Youth Cup Final, which we lost to Crystel Palace. We were pretty dismal but two players stood out for us, Ivor Linton and Gary, who was like quicksilver.

28 August 1979 Layer Road Colchester Utd League Cup = Gary Shaw show imprinted for ever on my memory!

Happy Birthday to a great player and now a good friend.
The man is a walking history of Aston Villa we often quiz each other and I can only remember catching him out once.
His Villa all time hero? Lord Brian of Little the man he replaced.
Sad to say that his knees still give him trouble and pain to this day.
-
No better Villa hero for me.
Local boy, brilliant player in a brilliant team.
Happy memories.
Happy birthday Gary Shaw

Happy birthday Gary.
One of my all time favourite Villa players, simply a joy to watch. He was a natural goal scorer, but he also had terrific touch and vision and the ability to create chances for other players.

I was only 2 !! What happened ?
-
Met him a couple of years ago and had a few beers with him. Great stories about that era and especially the European Cup Final and how he ended up in Amsterdam not wanting the night to end. As he put it "you're 21 years of age and you've just won the European Cup, I wanted the night to last forever."
-
Wonderful player, great touch, elegant, great balance, what a partnership he had with Withey, met him a couple of times and seemed a nice guy, Happy Birthday Gary.
-
Happy birthday to the man who will always begin the most famous Villa commentary in history.
-
Happy birthday Gary. I met him last year at a charity game and did one of those selfie pics of the 2 of us together. I was chuffed to bits that he put his arm around my shoulders for it. I saw him again and he signed the pic for me.

^^ Just in case you missed it on page one *winky*
-
I turned up at Bodymoor one day, 87? (under McNeil anyway), and saw him in practice game. He was twisting and turning with that effortlessly supple grace of his and I thought he might come back again, but sadly not.
Would love to have met him but whenever I saw Dave W at VP I'd always just missed him...

Fine player.
Wondeful Villa Man.

Does he read on here? Tell him to take a look...maybe just at this thread, the others will have him pining for the good old days.

Not as far as I know although he knows I come on here.
The sad thing is although he goes to Villa Park to do some media match reports and for official functions he can't remember the last time he went to a game just as a fan.
I've tried to get him to come in the Holte with me and some of our friends but he's always been reluctant to come 'because he doesn't want to cause a scene.' Believe it or not he's a fairly shy person.

Happy Birthday Gary Shaw ,great player and a nice bloke. As the song went," Gary Shaw,Gary Shaw, when he gets the ball,he's bound to score,Gary Shaw ,Gary Shaw.
-
My favourite Player of all time and my idol as a kid. Had the same hair cut (wedge) wore the same boots and insisted I was number 8 in the school team.
Happy Bitrhday Gary Shaw you're a legend mate!
-
A tragedy for English football to rank alongside Gascoigne in my opinion, superb player at every level he ever played at. We`ll never know, but we can only guess what might have been, but a European cup-winners medal plus a league championship isnt a bad legacy. Sigh!!!....

Get Tayls to take him in the Upper Trinity and show him how it's done ;-)
Gary, Gary give us a wave!

Happy birthday Gary Shaw Villa legend.
Shame injuries stopped him fulfilling his potential.
-
A fantastic player and a real Holte hero. However, I also remember the stick he got from the fans at times when his form dropped.we love our own, but also tend to give them a hard time.
-
I might be miles off, but wasn't it Maradona who wanted Gary's shirt after one game ?

Better looking than media darling George Best and with the medals to match. European Young Player of The Year, too, the kid had the lot! It's a cliche but what on earth would he be worth now? Marketing-wise and talent-wise Gary Shaw had the world at his feet before injury struck.
A sincere Happy Birthday to you, Mr. Shaw.

It was the Bravo Award he won. Look at the company he is in though!
