It's also a little annoying that Gil has replaced Grealish in the squad.

Jack wasn't in the squad last week, so with the addition of Gil there was no chance of him being in this week.

As soon as the U21 was announced we knew there'd be no Jack today

I really don't understand who Lambert expects to be beyond the ball to link up with Gab and Benteke. I cannot believe after he goes on and on about needing a creative spark he plays four traditionally deep-lying CMs across the middle. Not to mention Westwood and Sanchez don't play well along side each other.

This could be bad.

Prepare for 90 mins of Westwood, Cleverley and Sanchez passing the ball sideways between themselves.

A looming protest and he has a chance to deflect some if it with his team selection. The same old same old simply hasn't worked. Yet the scared man inside him has taken control yet again. He could have gone Grealish/Gil but yet again played it as safe as possible. Expect the obvious. A lot of knocking it around without any direct impact. It's such a shame because it is the opposite of who he was. He'll deserve the anger of the crowd and the media criticism if things go just as they have the last few weeks.

It must be written in the loan agreement that Cleverley has to play, although knowing how our manager thinks,he probably thinks he is doing a excellent job.

Clerverley for Gil was obvious. Give us a boost. I fear for the atmosphere if we go a couple down today. 1 win in 16 at home against them. Not looking too hot.

There's no way it's written in the contract. Clubs only insist on that if it's a player they hope to see develop and/or gain experience. Man Utd don't give a shit about TC23, they just want rid.

Anyway, dull as the team selection is, there is a chance/hope that it will work better against a team that will attack us than it does against a massed defence.

Same old rubbish.

How can you have 4 central midfielders playing when you have options.

Expecting Alan Hutton to run all day up and down and being your only option to attack is pathetic. Crossing from the middle of the pitch will never give the attackers the type of chances they need.

Our only attacking intent seems to be getting it to Hutton out wide.

It's been that way from day one, since Lambert arrived. One of the reasons we shipped so many goals was because Lowton and Luna or Bennett were constantly caught upfield and out of position. Now Hutton and Cissokho are more competent defenders and don't take as many risks, so we're tighter at the back, but we still have no other consistent attacking threat whatsoever.

It's fucking clueless.

A back four with wingbacks is fucking ridiculous without a sort of half back in midfield.

Even so, it only works very well with three centre backs.

Lambert is clueless.

There's so little coming from our midfield. No one is willing to make a run, be an option. Cleverley shows little touches, Delph makes little runs here and there, Westood tried fair play to him, but there's no gameplan that I can make out. None of them are linking up with the forwards.

Utter toss again from the boring one. Piss poor team selection. Loving the flat midfield 4 it's even better than our flat midfield 3, think it needs more centre mids though, maybe buy another one in the transfer window for the flat midfield 5 tactic, drop a forward.

These tactics have been shown not to work time and again

Hutton is our only real attacking threat

Gabby has been awful

Cleverley out of position

They could have had a few now. That was a one on one for sterling. Defence looks at sea. Seems baker needs to play with an organiser and Okore with Delph. Playing wing backs is part of the problem.  And with sanchez further firward we lack protection

Which is the whole point of football. We only look more solid than last season because we cowardly keep maximum number of players behind the ball at all times and we replaced the fullback weaklings with men.

I'd agree with this. We probably shouldn't judge the players too harshly, because they're being asked to play in a system that's pathetically ineffectual. Cleverley, for example, would probably look perfectly decent if he had more passing options available.

The two wins were consecutive as well weren't they?  A backs to a wall win at Palace followed by a 2-1 victory against a Leicester team in the middle of a run of three months without a win themselves.  Both sandwiched in between periods of 8 and 7 without a win, and in those two runs we managed 4 goals in 15 games combined.

That's assuming we don't turn this around before (chortle).

Baker and BENTEKE had the chances today and baker especially blew it

We were lucky to be only 1-0 down but we definitely deserved a goal second half

Ten minutes of decent stuff. 67 minutes before we started to play decent stuff. And we're still losing 2-0. I honestly think we're relegated already. I really do.

Yet again, we've ended up being fucked over due to Lambert having to correct his own mistakes that a fucking orang-utan wouldn't have made in the fucking first place.

The massive eejit.

You have to score when you are on top.

We gave ourselves the smallest chance of winning this game by playing an hour of it with the wrong players and formation. Liverpool can take 15 minutes under the cosh, let's not kid ourselves over a little spell of football.

The problem with this defeat is that we will have the worst of all worlds as a result.

We lose another game.
We play sufficiently averagely to present absolutely no threat to the manager being sacked.
He will say we were excellent, the press won't challenge it and on we go again.

Well, one positive is that Gil looks quality. Although it's sobering to think that a kid from Spain worth a paltry 3 million appears to have superior technique to almost everyone else in our entire squad.

The lack of quality movement around the opposition box is a real problem. Gabby and benteke are normally just standing in the same place

There's hope with Gil and a different balance to midfield if lambert is prepared to start games like that. But the lack of goals could definitely see us going down and I think we have to try for a proper wide player

Correct.  The press have been looking at us this week so will have focussed on the match.  We had a purple patch where we looked better for 20 minutes than we have for a long time but didn't really create much, but Lambert will focus on that and so will the media, concluding there isn't much wrong without looking properly at the records over the last few weeks/months/years.

This isn't the players, it is the manager.

Palace have gained 6 points from losing positions in the last 2 games after changing their manager.
