Title: In house fighting
Post by: Phil from the upper holte on January 10, 2015, 09:53:40 PM
My mate said people were fighting each other today. Also said fighting each other on the train. I was aware of it at Burnley as well.

What's goin on? Sad state when were fighting each other.

The only thing I can think of is that it was between those who believe you shouldn't get on the team's back and those who were showing their displeasure. I can't imagine that there are enough fans so passionately behind lambert to start fights like that.

I saw and heard nothing that sounded like fighting at Burnley. Even if it isn't near you. you can hear and tell it's happening.

Witnessed it close hand at Swansea away couple of years ago, as Brummie villa fans didn't agree that there should be Welsh villains ! Pathetic

I hate to be even remotely disparaging about any of our support, but on my occasional away games it never ceases to amaze me how many people are pissed out of their heads. I'm amazed some can even walk!

I had to go for a piss on circa 25 min mark . The amount of people who were down on the concourse just drinking not even watching the game was staggering , and there weren't even any TV's down there to watch on.
Why go the game at all ?

I don't think I could watch us away without a drink. I'm not joking. If I'm going to the effort of attending I want some enjoyment out of it as I know it won t be forthcoming at that match.

I have never seen quite so much in fighting as today. It happened behind us in the first half, about 10-12 blokes throwing punches. Also at the end by the away fans too.

There was plenty of trouble with Leicester today as well. Apparently it went off at about half three in the city centre.

it normally starts with an 'I'm a bigger fan than yow' type of debate. I remember a fight on a train back from Old Trafford years ago when two blokes compared away game records and when one of them conceded that he hadn't made it to a midweek game at Wimbledon because his son had fell ill, he was scoffed at for being a lightweight. It all kicked off...and I think they were brothers.
Title: Re: In house fighting
Post by: Witton Warrior on January 11, 2015, 10:20:38 AM
It happened at the McLeish Bolton game. My lad and I were sat in the Upper Trinity and joined in the chants - several Holy Trinitarians took exception ("disgrace", "throw the out" etc) and we had a stand-off with three blokes on the stairway until other fans joined the chanting - the lad was all for lighting into them but I couldn't bring myself to fight with another Villa fan. It put my son off going. We're all getting desperate.

To be honest, a lot of the fights I have seen between supporters of the same team have originated from trivial things like people being told to sit down or someone shouting at others "to sing more" etc.

I can imagine it went:
"I think Lambert is the worst manager we've ever had"
"Worse than O' Leary?"
"Much worse"
"Are you some sort of O' Leary lover"
"No, I..."
"Oi lads. This bloke wants O' Leary back"
"No, I just..."
"I hate O' Leary"
"Well, so..."

I got offered out at Fratton Park a few years ago for venturing an opinion that NRC was having a shit game.

Also, Chauffeurs coaches were always a bit lively on the way home, by way of scuffles breaking out. Not traveled with them for ages, so I don't know what they're like now.

I was at that desperate performance from a so called Villa team yesterday.
unfortunately one of my mates ended up fighting a fellow villa fan just before half time.
It all started when most of us including myself started chanting Lambert out !! My mate who had I admit had lots to drink took exception to the support. he argued with anyone who would listen that we should support the team and leave the Lambert Out cry till the end of the game. I tried to calm him down but he was frustrated and angry and drunk!! lots of the crowd at this point were frustrated as we were awful, no passion, no fight, no plan, no creativity, no forward passes.
Anyway the argument got more heated and before you know it someone from 3 rows back stormed over and belted him to the floor. I and several others separated them and it was very tense during half time, we moved our mate down a few rows and everything stayed calm.
My mate has followed villa home and away for over 30 years and is no hooligan. He is passionate. But my philosophy is you pay your money you are entitled to an opinion. He was out of order as was the twat who attacked him from 3 rows back.
The irony of the whole thing is talking to people around me in the second half everyone is hurting, frustrated and desperate to get our Villa back.
But performances like yesterday, and plenty of booze don't mix. We are all Villa and we will all be Villa when all these tossers like Learner and lambert have long gone.

But at this moment we see no hope. !!!!

I had a great day out yesterday. Met up earlyish in the Square Peg, had a pint. Got train to Leicester had a couple of cans. Got asked if I had a match ticket by one of many police officers at Leicester Station before being allowed to leave the platform. Didn't take offence, they've got a job to do. Went to local pub had 4 or 5 pints.
Strolled down to the stadium, got into the game 5 minutes late and genuinely enjoyed the first half as I thought we played some good stuff and went down 5 mins before half time for a beer ( the worst I've ever had at a footy match btw dunno what it was) with the expectation that we'd probably win in the second half!

Hmm anyway.... After the game we strolled into the nearest pub, chatted to the locals, had a couple of pints, wandered back into town (picked up cans en route) and enjoyed the train back home eventually landing at New Street about 9.

The point I'm making is, dispite lots of drinking, at no point did we fall out with anyone or each other. There was plenty of moaning about Villa but of the self mocking 'yes we know we're shite' type and most of the people we came into contact with were the same.

That said for me to throw a punch at anyone, one of my children or wife would have to be threatened so I really can't see me or my mates fighting over our manager with a fellow fan.

I genuinely think, as it happens, we'll be fine.

I remember having a debate with a brain-dead individual who used a racial slur to describe Dion Dublin. His argument was that I shouldn't argue as he'd been going since the seventies and I obviously wasn't a proper fan as I hadn't even bothered to attend matches before I was born.

I understand the anger among everyone about the mess we are in and, but I've never been one who agrees with in-fighting and barracking your own players and manager during a game. I'm not saying you can't do it,  but for me its counter-productive and just gives the opposition a lift

I wasn't at Leicester and I am not a regular away traveller, so I know people will think "you don't have a right to comment if your not there" and I understand that.

At the end of the day, we've got what we've got. If you don't like Lambert then fair enough, but let's end the in-game bickering and concentrate on backing the team till the end of the season. Then we can sit and have a proper think about things, but if we carry on like this then we WILL be sucked in and the negativity will rub off on the team.

Brings back memories when I got thumped by a fellow Villa 'fan' at the Hawthorns.  Must have been about 1979-1980 and Pat Heard scored a free kick in the 88th minute. After all the celebrations I turned to look  for my mate to see a beast with a Villa scarf tied aroung his head (rambo style) who stared at me and called me a F*****G C**T then hit me in the mouth.  The fans seperated on ther terrace then a copper came up and the bloke who hit me then said 'that bloke hit me'!  I protested my innocence  but was threatened with a trip in a black mariah (Sp) if i didn't shut up!!  To this day I have no idea why he hit me?!

I went to the game while the wife went shopping, first of all I met my Villa mates in the Sir Robert Peel a really nice pub with some nice beers on and a great atmosphere from the home and away supporters in there.

then came the game :(

we then went back to the same pub where my wife met up with us all, then the Swan and Rushes and then to a couple of others and we had a great night drinking and eating in Leicester and not a hint of trouble or aggression came our way.

I was a bit fuzzy headed in the morning though :)

If that bloke is one this forum - You tw*t!!!

1982, a few weeks before Rotterdam wasn't it? And no it wasn't me as I was only eleven at the time!

Not sure. I thought it was before we won the league (I was 15 so 1979-80?)  but my memory is fading of those heady days!

Just checked on google - indeed it was 1982 on May 8th!

All I keep thinking about is Carl Douglas.

What has any of this got to do with table tennis?

Desmond Douglas is a Villa fan

Can he play in an attacking midfield role?

Is he allowed to use his bat?

With little to cheer about, and little hope of improvement, I have noticed a progressively nasty edge to some elements of our away support shown both to our own, and others.

Away support just getting prepared for Milwall, Leeds and the Noses next year, practicing on our own.

You really think next season we are going to get to the Quarter Finals of the FA cup by playing lower league opposition? Mad man.

You used to get the odd 'ruck' on the Premier coaches, late 80s early 90s which were usually broken up with the immortal words "Villa don't fight Villa"....Usually involved some pissed teenagers and an older guy who had taken the piss out of them.

All I keep thinking about is Carl Douglas.

That kind of fighting would definitely be more distracting than what was going on on the pitch.

Mind you not much wouldn't be.
